It was only when Tipsy brought me my Hogwarts letter did I realize that it was soon time for me to join Hogwarts. I had become so entranced in my pursuit of magic that I had lost all track of time the past few years.
I saw the address on the front of the letter and wondered if Dumbledore had the chance to see where the letter was going. He would probably freak out if he did. The letter was addressed to "Harry Potter, Master Bedroom, Potter Manor".
I read through the letter and was surprised when the letter was word for word the same as the letter from canon. Even though I knew what universe this was by now, I was kind of hoping that it wouldn't follow canon so much, things did not go well for canon Harry.
I already had most of the things on the requirements list, the books and potions ingredients I needed to learn and practise and I had plenty to spare. The clothes I had ordered in advance to perfectly fit my body. I hadn't grown too much, but I was very fit. The only thing I was really missing was my wand and if I wanted, to go get Hedwig. I always loved Hedwig in canon but I was reluctant because of the dangerous life I was going to live. I wasn't going to be a passive Harry Potter so maybe getting Hedwig wasn't such a great idea. Oh well I'll make my mind up after I get my wand.
I had Sebas drop me off in the same alley we used last time. Diagon alley was much busier than the last time I had been here to get my broom, all the parents and students trying to buy everything needed for the new year. Since I only needed a wand, I quickly made my way to Ollivanders but I made sure to enter only when it looked completely empty. I didn't want anybody realizing who I was as I remember Ollivander had a tendency to blurt out the name of whoever entered his store. I was also a little nervous getting my wand, I didn't know how much stronger my magic would get once I got my wand but I was definitely looking forward to it.
As I entered the store, I took in the layout of it. I don't remember how the store was described in the books but it definitely looked like how it did in the movies, narrow and shabby.
Before Ollivander could call out my name, I turned to where I knew he would be and said "Hello, I was hoping to buy a wand, would you be able to help me out?" I knew I flustered him based on his expression, he paused for a few moments, probably wondering how I knew where he was.
He gathered himself very quickly and approached me, "Why of course Harry Potter, I'd be happy to help you?" He was once again flustered when I didn't question him on how he knew my name. I was very much enjoying putting him on the back pedal considering the interaction between him and canon Harry.
Eventually he decided to move past his flustering and got started on taking all the measurements he needed to. The process felt as arbitrary as it did in canon. He measured the length of my arm, length from my nose to my belly button, length of my belly button to the floor and on it went for 5 minutes. Once he was done, the long process of finding the right wand for me started. Just as in canon, none of the wands he handed me worked, he immediately grabbed each one from my hand after I held them for mere seconds.
"Hmm, I wonder", I heard him mutter as he left to grab yet another wand, my heart skipped a beat as I knew which wand he was going to bring. Even though I knew the benefit the wand would give me facing Voldemort, I still didn't want to be connected to him in any way.
This was the first time since I started living in Potter Manor that I felt heavy uncertainty. While living with the Dursleys, there were definitely days where I thought I might die but I never felt that way in Potter Manor. As Ollivander handed me the wand, I could feel my palms get sweaty. When I finally grabbed the wand, I felt nothing...
It was very anti-climactic, even for Ollivander who I heard mutter as he shook his head "I was sure that would be the one. Well Mr. Potter you have stumped, we've been at this for quite some time and yet no luck." I shrug my shoulders as I didn't know what else to say. Did the wand sense my hesitancy and that's why it didn't work for me? Even I was very stumped at the moment. In my stupor, I never noticed Ollivander head to the back and bring an old box with him.
The box was very old and tattered yet it radiated power, I could feel it the moment he put the box down in front me. "Well Mr. Potter, this is a special wand that I have kept with me for many years, no one has been able to claim it for all this time. But I think it may be the one for you" Ollivander explained as he signaled me to open the box.
When I opened the box, I was greeted with a wand unlike any I had seen in Harry Potter canon, yet it seemed familiar to me, like I had seen it before. Both ends of the wand had heads that didn't resemble any person or creature I could think of, the heads also had horns on the side of them. The main body of the wand had an intricate design that wrapped around the entire wand and was much wider than a normal wand. With a bit of trepidation, I picked up the wand.
As soon as it was in my hand, I felt an enormous burst of power flow through me, I could feel my magical getting stronger. I'm not sure what Ollivander saw from his eyes but even he could tell the wand was accepting me. "Wonderful Mr. Potter! I can say confidently that we can expect great things from you. This wand is the most powerful wand I've ever encountered, I found it in long ago during my travel around the world. For it to accept you, it must mean you are destined to be a powerful wizard.
"Thank you, sir!" I thanked him wholeheartedly. Not only was I not getting the wand with a connection to Voldemort but I also got this amazing wand.
I also asked him to provide a wand holster but he said he would have to send it via owl at a later time as he would need to make a custom holder for it. I told him that was fine with me and paid for the wand and the holster after which I made my way out of the store.
I wasn't sure how long I had stayed in the store but it was definitely a long time, yet the busyness of Diagon Alley had not changed. There were just as many people as before, if not more. In the large crowd I was able to make out one particularly person, because of how much he stood out of the crowd.
Rubeus Hagrid, was exiting Gringotts when I caught sight of him, he looked like how he did in the movies. I discreetly walked up behind and followed him as he made his way to what I recognised as the Leaky Cauldron. I made sure to continue being discreet as I pulled up to a table right behind Hagrid so I could hear his conversation with Tom the Barkeep, who looked how he did in the first movie. I didn't learn much from Hagrid except that he was on a mission from Hogwarts. I face-palmed when Hagrid casually told this to Tom, he was just as clueless as he was in canon. But at least I knew that things would progress similar to canon, as I assumed his mission was to get the Philosopher's stone from the vault.
Knowing I wasn't going to get much else from him, I decided to leave, I then had Nabel take me back home. As soon as I got home, I realized that I never went to look for Hedwig. Between the time spent getting my wand and seeing Hagrid I completely forgot about Hedwig. Well, I guess I made my decision regarding Hedwig by forgetting about her. Better for the owl I thought, considering how much danger she would have been in had I went and got her.
