Chapter sixteen: Sweet child of mine.
Jack was sitting at home after work watching reruns of Adrena-Lynn on TV. He had never watched the show before but seeing as he now knew her he figured he should maybe watch her show. Jack had explained the whole situation to Kim concerning Harmony on the drive home that night. Kim hadn't been too receptive at first, probably mostly because she was mad at her for kidnapping her and putting her life in danger as well as Jack's but Jack had managed to get her to come around.
It had been a few days since he had seen Brandi and he was deeply missing her. He had considered calling or texting her but he didn't want to disturb her if she was in the middle of something important, he didn't want to blow her cover after all. Besides, it wasn't like he knew what to talk about. Not like he could just call her and ask; "Hey what you stealing?" since that's mostly what Drakken had her do. As he thought about it he and Brandi didn't really just have normal conversations. They didn't really talk about their lives or their dreams or stuff like that. Their relationship seemed to transcend all that where wards didn't mean a lot. They mostly just enjoyed each other's company and conversation flowed when it was needed.
Jack had considered hanging out with Kim today but she was busy with her boyfriend Josh. Kim had quit her job at Taco Bell after she found out about the money Jack had made from getting Pop pop Porter's blimp back, feeling stupid she had wasted time on minimum wage instead of just waiting for a mission that paid. Jack thought it was funny but took pity on her and gave her the money for the jacket she had wanted. Not like he needed that money, Jack was actually very well off.
Seeing that Kim and Brandi were both busy that only left one person for him to go hang out with. Jack shut off the TV and got in the shower before getting changed into a black Iron Maiden tee shirt and blue jeans. The shirt happened to be one of the shirts that Brandi liked to sleep in. Jack than went back downstairs and grabbed his keys before going out to his black Mazda Rx7 and heading to the hospital.
Walking into the hospital room Jack was met with a bright smile from a surprised young woman. "Da-Jack! You came to see me! I was starting to worry I would never see you again." Harmony said as she sat up in bed. Jack lifted an eyebrow at her reaction to his presence. "Did she just almost call me dad?" Jack thought to himself, figuring she did but he didn't really care as he walked over to her. "Hey take it easy, you shouldn't be moving around." Jack said as he gently helped her lay back down. "Don't worry, I heal really quickly. The doctor said I will be out of here tomorrow, and then it's off to the mental ward." Harmony said, finishing with only a slightly psychotic giggle. "Well I'm glad you are going ok. Here, I brought these for you." Jack said as he placed a vase full of flowers on her bedside table that he had bought down at the gift shop. Harmony smiled brightly as she looked at the flowers. "Oh thank you! You shouldn't have." Harmony said brightly before watching Jack pull up a chair and sit beside her. "So what you watching?" Jack asked.
Harmony sighed as she looked back at the TV. "Just reruns of my old show. Don't think I'll be doing that again…" Harmony said sadly. "Don't want to?" Asked Jack. "I'm not sure, but it's not that really… After my last stunt my camera man ran off and now I'm all alone again. And after ward gets out of what I did, no one will watch me…" Harmony said sadly as she slumped in her bed. "You're not alone Harmony. And no one is going to know what happened." Jack said warmly placing a hand on her shoulder. Harmony looked up at him and hugged him, Jack was a little bit surprised but hugged her back. "Thank you Jack." She said tenderly as she held onto him before letting to. "But how did you manage to get Kim to keep quiet?" Harmony asked as she laid back in her bed.
"Kim may have been very mad and sometimes even tends to hold grudges, she does have a good heart. I explained your situation to her and eventually she decided to let it go. Jack left out the part where Kim had flipped out about Harmony being made in a lab.
-Flash Back-
"Are you insane!? We can't allow something like that to live! Who knows what she will do next!" Screamed Kim as they drove down the road. Jack pulled into a Krispy Kreme parking lot and parked the Jeep. This looked like it wasn't going to be a conversation to be best had while driving. "The fuck is wrong with you Kim!? She is a human being just like you or me!" Yelled Jack as he turned to face her. "She's a monster whose too dangerous to live Jack!" Kim yelled back "Bullshit! It's not her fault that she exists! And it's not her fault what they did to her. Have you no love for your fellow man Kim?" Jack shot back. "Now you know that is not true! I help people almost every day!" Kim retorted defensively. "Then let's help her!" Jack roared.
Kim seemed to stop, either at his point or his tone and just looked at him with shock. Jack sighed. "I'm sorry Kim. But this aint no lite mater. You do realize that I have killed too don't you?" Jack said much more calmly. "That's different Jack." Kim said softly. "Is it? Once a life is gone it's gone. And it seems to me the ones she killed deserved it more than the ones I did." Jack said as he looked down. Kim sighed and sat back in her seat in defeat. "Jack… You never really told me how you felt… About your time at war." Kim said softly as she looked down at her knees. "That's because I never wanted you to know… Truth is there is evil in this world far greater than what we deal with now. And I never wanted you to see it." Jack said somberly as he looked down.
"I'm not stupid Jack. I know there are bad things out there! I'm not a Kid Jack!" Kim said with frustration as she turned to look at him. Jack chuckled as he looked at her. "Yea Kim, you are. And I only say that because I remember when I was your age." Said Jack with slight amusement. "Girls mature faster than boys." Kim said indignantly as she crossed her arms and lifted her nose high into the air, pouting. Jack couldn't help but laugh at her. "Sure Kim, whatever you say." Jack said with amusement. "But either way, I'm not going to let anything happen to that girl and that is final." Jack said very firmly, giving no room for Kim to argue.
"Alright, fine. But she is your responsibility. And I don't want to see her until she is all cleared by a psychiatrist." Kim said as she gave up but still tried to act tough. Jack chucked. "Fair enough Kim, fair enough." Said Jack. Kim than looked out the window at the large red "Hot Now" Sign. "I'll be right back. I'm going to get some doughnuts." Kim said as she got out the Jeep. Jack just groaned and shook his head.
- END FLASH BACK-
"Well I am glad that she isn't too mad." Harmony said with a bright smile. Jack and Harmony than looked at each other for a moment before she turned away as an awkward silence overtook the room. It was clear she wanted to ask something but was unsure about doing so. "So... There was something I wanted to ask you…" Harmony said timidly. "Go on." Jack said with casual curiosity as he cocked an eyebrow ever so slightly. "Can I call you dad?" Harmony asked with cheerful excitement as her attitude did a 180. Jack was very surprised by her request, but mostly because of the way she had asked. She went from timid to excited in nothing flat. But that again, she wasn't mentally stable.
Jack gave the request only slight consideration before answering. The girl had nothing, so if a dad was what she needed most then so be it. "Sure you can call me dad." Jack said warmly with a slightly amused smirk. "Yay!" Harmony exclaimed as she nearly jumped out of bed and hugged him. "Thanks daddy!" She said in a sweet and cheerful voice with a face splitting smile. Jack was caught off guard but hugged her back.
Meanwhile in a secret underground lab in the Nevada desert Drakken and Shego had just broke into said underground lab. Once gaining access to the underground car park Shego strolled through the front door like she owned the place while Drakken fallowed a few feet behind. "Hey Frank you got my iced mocha?" Asked a guard as he heard the whooshing of the door to his right.
He was clearly a very lazy guard and very bad at his job because he was busy watching reruns of Adrena-Lynn on his monitor instead of watching the security cameras. "How about an ice nap?" Shego said as she placed a green glowing finger on the guards head and he fell asleep. She had forgotten to tell Jack that she could do that during their training. Thinking of Jack Shego laughed silently to herself feeling that "How about in ice nap?" was something that he would have said.
"Very good Shego." Drakken said coolly as he strolled into the room. "Dr. Drakken stop!" Shego said frantically as she placed her hands up for him to stop but he just pushed past her. "I give the orders, you do not tell me to stop." Drakken said defiantly as he walked past her only for the alarm to go off. "I do when I haven't shut down the alarm system yet!" Shego growled out with great irritation.
Several guards than poured into the room as Shego leapt into the middle of them as she ignited her hands and made quick work of them, throwing them all into a neat pile as they laid there unconscious. Another group of gourds poured in as Shego ran head first into them, using a few moves Jack taught her to quickly take out the remaining guards. It only took Shego about 20 seconds to take out all 15 guards but it still didn't seem to be fast enough for Dr. Drakken. "Can we pick up the pace?" He asked with impatient irritation as he held a ticking stop watch in his hand.
Shego than leapt through the air to land in front of him. "You're the one that set off the alarm!" Shego defended defiantly as she pointed a finger at him. "Let's just get your stupid, whatever it is and get the hell out of here!" Shego exclaimed as she through her hands and began to walk towards the facilities main lab. As usual Shego didn't know or care what Dr. Drakken's plan was as long as she got paid and Jack was around to foil it.
"That back talk is what slows down our entire operation! I demand obedience!" Drakken barked before slamming his fist down into his open palm. Shego stopped to turn back and look at him, clearly not caring. "From me? Please." She said with casual and snarky defiance before walking off to retrieve whatever it was they came to get. There was only one man that she was obedient to.
After stealing the technology they came to steal Shego sat in her chair in front of the fireplace back at Drakken's lair. Drakken was working on his, whatever it was. For some reason he wasn't muttering about his plan but Shego didn't care, she was busy with her thoughts. Normally she would be filing her nails but she didn't really do that anymore since a certain someone liked them long and sharp. Speaking of that certain someone Shego wondered why he hadn't called or texted her. Couldn't be that he was busy since she knew all the things he did in his spare time. Could it be that he didn't miss her? The mere thought almost made Shego's heart shatter as she shook her head and quickly forced the thought from her mind. She knew better, there had to be another explanation.
Shego sighed loudly and got up. Drakken glanced back at her, hearing her distress but he didn't seem to care as he quickly went back to what he was working on. Shego walked out the room to go find something to do. She had to get Jack off her mind.
Back at the hospital Jack was sitting and talking with Harmony as he was getting to know his would be daughter better when his Kimmunicator went off. "What's up Wade?" Jack asked casually. "Drakken and Shego just raided a top secret research facility in the Nevada desert." Informed wade. Jack's heart skipped a beat and began to race as he heard the alias of the green skinned woman who had stolen his heart. He felt bad about not calling her.
Just than Harmony moved as she moved the Kimmunicator that was in Jack's hands so that she was also in the shot. "Hello!" She said joyfully with a giddy giggle. Wade jumped back, nearly falling out of his seat from surprise. "Jack, are you in the hospital with… Adrena-Lynn?" Wade asked once he reseated himself. "That's right! Daddykins came to see me!" Harmony said as giddy as a school girl. A slightly psychotic school girl. "Daddykins?" Asked a very confused and slightly disturbed Wade. "Long story wade." Jack said nonchalantly as he glanced at Harmony than back to Wade. It wasn't really a long story, Jack just didn't want to talk about it with Harmony around.
"Right…?" Said Wade. "I'll explain it to you later." Jack said. "Anyways… looks like you're going at this one alone since Kim is bust with Josh." Said wade. Jack scoffed. "At this rate we will have to change the name of the website from Kim Possible to The incredible Jack." Jack said in a slightly amused tone and with a slight smirk. Wade laughed. "Yea. Anyways, a ride will be at your location in 20 minutes." Said wade before signing off.
Jack stood up and put the Kimmunicater back in his pocket. "You're leaving?" Harmony asked sadly. "Sorry, duty calls. Got to save the world and all that." Jack said as he turned to look at her as he rolled his shoulders. "Can I come with you?" Harmony asked a bit timidly. Jack shook his head. "Sorry, but the doctor won't clear you till tomorrow. And after that it's off to the mental ward." Said Jack. Jack than heard a familiar voice from behind him. "Actually as long as she is with you, I don't see why she can't go." Jack than turned to see Ann Possible standing in the doorway.
"Ann? What are you doing here?" Jack asked with wide eyes surprise. "After Kimmy told me what happened I took upon myself to look after her." Ann said as she approached the two, looking at Harmony, than at Jack. "But you're a brain surgeon." Jack stated with confusion. "True. But I also specialize in psychology." Said Ann. "Oh, well… Then I'm glad she's in good hands." Said Jack. He was still a bit confused but accepted it.
Ann than went and unhooked the IV that was in Harmon's arm as her heels clicked on the floor as she walked. "Thanks Dr.P." Harmony said cheerfully. Ann than led Jack out the room while Harmony got changed. Shutting the door behind her Ann turned to look at Jack. "I think it's sweet that you're looking after her. Poor thing doesn't have anybody else." Said Ann. Jack crossed his arms as he leaned against the wall. "That's why I'm doing it. She needs me." Jack said as he looked at Ann, sounding bored. "You're all she talks about. Even called you dad on accident a couple times." Said Ann. "Yea… She asked if she could call me dad. I said yes." Said Jack.
Ann looked a little surprised but then went on talking in a casual tone. "You're a good man Jack. Not many men make it out like you after what you have seen." Said Ann. "You don't know what I have seen Ann." Jack said colder than he had meant to. "No, but I'm not stupid Jack. Most men that come back from war are pretty messed up. Seen it a few times myself." Said Ann. Jack didn't really like her comparing him to other soldiers. Sure many had seen some things, but not like him. Still he knew she meant nothing by it and he respected Ann, she was a good woman, and so he let it go. "Anyways, thanks for taking care of her Ann. You're a good woman." Said Jack. Ann smiled and nodded.
"You know her enhancements are quite impressive her blood and muscle structure are unlike anything I have ever seen before." Said Ann with slight but casual amazement. "With all due respect Ann, which is a lot by the way, I don't actually care. She is a person just like everybody else." Jack said as respectfully as he could in a dismissive tone. Ann nodded. "Thank you Jack, I understand." Said Ann in understanding. She was happy to know that he respected her but also glad that he cared about Harmony and looked at her as a person and not some machine.
Just then Harmony than came out wearing her long sleeve red shirt and tight blue jeans. Ann turned to her as Jack also watched her. "All ready." Harmony said cheerfully. "Have fun. Just make sure to get her over to the mental ward when you get back alright Jack?" Said Ann with a smile. Jack nodded. "I will." Jack said before himself and Harmony began walking down the hall and Ann went back to her work.
"Oh this is going to be so much fun!" Harmony exclaimed as she through her hands up. Jack glanced at her as they walked down the hall. He wondered if it was such a good idea to let a mental patient out of the hospital and if Ann would be in danger of losing her job over this. He also knew he would have some serious explaining to do once Brandi saw her. But he knew he would eventually have to do that anyways.
Jack didn't have one of his blue mission shirts with him but he did have an extra mission hat out in the car so they went down to the parking garage to get it. "Wow, sweet ride!" Harmony exclaimed as she saw his Black 1983 Mazda Rx7. "Thanks." Said Jack casually as he unlocked the door and got his hat out the back seat. "I'd love to have a car like this." Said Harmony. "Well after we get your life back on track you can have whatever kind of car you want." Jack said putting on his hat and shutting the door. Harmony smiled brightly, if not a little psychotically. He had a feeling she would always be a quirky girl.
Up at the top of the parking garage a high tech hover jet landed in an area where there wasn't many cars around as Jack and Harmony approached. "Where is Kim?" Asked the pilot. The pilot was a bald headed man with a shaved face wearing a blue hat similar to Jack's, dark sunglasses, a brown bomber jacket, and a red tee shirt. "Busy with a date I believe." Replied Jack. "This you're girlfriend?" Asked the pilot. "Daughter." Jack said nonchalantly as he and Harmony passed the pilot and got on board. The pilot's jaw dropped and he lifted his sunglasses as he watched them board his plane before shrugging to himself and boarding as well.
The flight wasn't very long, only about 20 minutes. Jack and Harmony sat in awkward silence. Or it was awkward for Jack at least. Harmony seemed totally content, even happy as she sat next to him. Jack did care about her, even agreed to be her father but the whole situation was a little odd to say the least. Harmony wasn't Brandi or Kim. Jack had always felt comfortable around Brandi no matter the situation. And he had known Kim for a while so things were rarely awkward there. Harmony however… Jack felt more like he was babysitting. Jack had never worked with her before and on top of that she was literally an unstable mental patent, so Jack had no clew how this was going to go.
Once the plane had landed Jack and Harmony disembarked and was greeted by and old man with short grey hair and a short beard wearing a brown tweed jacket and large coke bottle glasses. "Hello, Kim possible I am Dr. Cyrus Bortel. Thank you for coming." Greeted the old man as he shook Harmony's hand. "Oh, no I'm not Kim Possible. I'm Harmony Giri." Said Harmony. The professor looked at her with great confusion.
Jack rolled his eyes as he stood with his hands behind his back. He needed to tell Wade to update the website with a few pictures of Kim so people stopped confusing his other companions for her. "Hello Dr. Bortel. Jack Giri. Kim is a bit busy so we have come instead." Said Jack as he shook the old man's hand. "Oh I see. So then this must be your wife?" Asked Dr. Bortel. "Daughter." Jack said casually as Harmony smiled a wild crazy smile. Dr. Bortel looked at them with shock. "You look very good for your age." Said Dr. Bortel with a small chuckle after a moment as if he had just come up with the idea of how Jack could be her father. "Thank you." Said Jack casually as he stood with his hands behind his back. We wasn't about to explain the situation to Dr. Bortel
"Anyways, won't you come in?" Asked Dr. Bortel. Jack and Harmony fallowed Dr. Bortel inside and Jack quickly got to work while Harmony looked around in wonder. Jack quickly noticed a safe in the corner that had been torn into. On the approach Jack noticed a small speck on the floor in front of the safe that anyone without honed senses would have missed. Kneeling down and getting a closer look Jack pulled out a pair of tweezers and a small evidence bag and placed the speck in the bag before placing the bag in his pocket.
Jack than turned his attention to the safe. The safe's inch thick steel door had been crumpled like a tin can and there were slash marks at the top corner of the door that gave off a slight green glow. Jack was amazed by the strength it would have taken to crumple the thick steel but he knew who had done it. "That's my girl." Jack thought proudly to himself with a smirk. He wondered why he had called her his girl. They weren't actually official.
"Dr. Bortel, what was in this safe?" Jack asked in a tone that stressed it's importance. Dr. Bortel quickly rushed over and Harmony fallowed a moment after. She had been looking at some strangely colored liquids in test tubes that were on a shelf on the wall. "In there I had my greatest invention… The Neuro-compliance chip!" Exclaimed a forlorn Dr. Bortel. "I don't like the sound of that." Jack said in a slightly dangerous tone as he quickly got up as he spun around. Harmony also clearly didn't like the sound of that because she quickly snatched the doctor up by the throat and held him midair.
"You mean to tell me you're looking to control people!?" Harmony yelled in a demanding tone as her pupils seeped to flash red with rage as she began having flashbacks of her time in the lab. As visions of the abuse she had been subject to over the years flashed through her mind tears began to stream down her face as she screamed out in pain and drop Dr. Bortel, grabbing her head she stumbled back.
Jack ran to her and wrapped his arms around her as she began to cry while the Dr. cowered in the corner. "Why would you make something like that?" Jack asked with a demanding voice. The Dr. seemed too scared to respond. "If you think she is scary, I can assure you I am far worse…" Jack threatened in a low growl as his eyes became very dark and deadly. Jack was not happy about the whole mind control chip but if it wasn't for harmony he probably wouldn't have acted so aggressively.
"Do you have any idea how much some countries would pay for such a device?" Dr. Bortol managed to squeak out with trembling voice as he pissed himself in the corner. "Unfortunately I do." Jack growled out in a low tone almost making the doctor almost shit himself as well.
Without another ward Jack scooped harmony up into his arms and carried her back to the plane and sat her down as he gently pet her head. "Shhh… It's ok Harmony." Jack cooed in a soft, soothing tone. Harmony slowly began to calm from her whimpering state. "We can't let him get back that chip." Harmony whimpered. "Shh. We won't. But right now we have to stop Dr. Drakken." Jack said softly as he petted her head. Jack than got up and pulled out his Kimmunicator.
"Wade, got something for you." Jack said as he popped open a tray on the Kimmunicator and poured the contents of the small evidence bag into the tray. Wade did some typing on his keyboard before turning his attention back to Jack. "It's a leaf from the Ccoalatok fern." Stated wade. "Don't know what that means wade." Said Jack in a slightly short tone of voice. "They only grow in one place on earth. At the foot of Tisu falls in the Peruvian rain forest." Said Wade. "Looks like we're off to Peru. Thanks Wade." Said Jack. "So you got time to explain the situation with Adrena-Lynn?" Asked wade. Jack glanced over at Harmony who was now looking pretty much back to normal. "Later wade." Said Jack. "She's with you? How did you work that out?" Asked wade with surprise. Wade had guessed that she was with him since Jack seemed to glace over at something. "I will explain everything later." Jack said before signing off.
"Dad… Who is Drakken?" Asked Harmony as Jack slid the Kimmunicator back into his pocket. "Drakken is Mine, and Kim's arch foe. Well mostly Kim's since for some reason he can never seem to remember that I exist. You also have to watch out for Shego. Shego is… Someone I will have to explain to you about later. Said Jack. He realized he would have to explain the whole Brandi/Shego situation to her once she saw Shego's firey green hands since Harmony had already seen that Brandi had the same green fire power.
"But why can't you explain it to me now?" Asked Harmony with a slight wine. Jack looked up to the cockpit than back at her. "I'll think about it. Let's get this bird in the air first." Jack said before going to go talk to the pilot. The jet soon took off as Harmony sat pouting to herself with crossed arms.
"You know kids can be a handful." Said the pilot as he tried to make idle conversation with Jack. Jack was sitting up front with the pilot as he contemplated about how to tell Harmony about Brandi and vice versa. "I know." Jack said sounding like he didn't really want to talk about it. The pilot didn't seem to get the message. "Got a little girl of my own back home." Said the pilot as he pulled a picture out of his jacket of a little girl with long curly blonde locks and sparkly blue eyes. "The mother around?" Jack asked idly. It seemed he was going to have a conversation wither he wanted to or not.
The pilot let out a long painful sigh as he shook his head. My wife died of cancer a few years back." Said the pilot. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." Said Jack. "I don't know what hurts worse, the fact that she's gone, or the fact our little girl is going to grow up without her mother around." The pilot said with slight pain in his voice. "You got somebody?" The pilot asked Jack. Jack paused for a moment. "…I'm not exactly sure what I have." Said Jack somewhat distantly. "Well you got to make the time while you have it and make sure those you care about know how you feel about them. You can't get it back once it's gone." The pilot said with a slight bit of sadness.
Jack glanced back at Harmony who was looking sad and lonely. "Thanks." Jack told the pilot as he looked at the man who gave him a thumbs up before he went to go sit with Harmony, but before he left the cockpit Jack turned back to the man. "I don't believe I ever got your name." Said Jack. "It's Scott." Said the pilot. "Thanks, Scott." Jack said with a smirk before going to go sit with his daughter.
"Oh, hey daddy. Is everything ok?" Harmony asked sweetly as she smiled at him. Jack sighed. "Can you keep a secret?" Asked Jack. "Of course daddy what is it?" Asked Harmony. "You remember the woman who was with me when we first met?" Asked Jack. "Of course daddykins, she's your girlfriend right?" Asked harmony. "Not, officially…" Jack said a bit awkwardly. "Oh. Well why don't you ask her to make it official?" Asked Harmony. "Well, you see… Things aren't exactly simple. As I will soon explain." Jack said as he rubbed the back of his head.
Harmony just looked at him expectantly as she waited for him to explain. "Well you see… Shego is the woman who was with me that day. Her real name is Brandi, and she doesn't really look like how you saw her that day. She was in a disguise… How you will see her today, is how she really looks." Said Jack, feeling slightly unsure of how to say this. Harmony looked at him with mouth gaping wonder but waited for him to continue. "You see… Brandi isn't really evil, she is just acting evil. We have actually been living together for a little while now." Said Jack. "Do you love her?" Asked Harmony without skipping a beat. "Yea." Said Jack without even bothering to mull it over. "Then why don't you ask her to be your girlfriend?" Asked Harmony with surprise. "Were taking things at a pace that were comfortable with." Said Jack. "Oh." Said Harmony. Jack was surprised that conversation was easier than he thought it would be. He doubted it would be if he was having this conversation with Kim.
"But you have to keep it a secret. Only you and I can know this." Jack stressed to her. Harmony made a zipper movement across her mouth. "Good." Jack said with a smile. Jack did believe her but part of him was a bit worried she would say something on accident. One had to wonder how tight the lips of a mental patent were. He only hoped that if Harmony slipped to Ann that Ann would be understanding.
Once at the location above the Tisu falls Jack and harmony parachuted in to land by a stream at the foot of the waterfall. It was a beautiful pace and probably one of Drakken's better choice locations for a lair. "Um, I don't see a lair… Very pretty though." Harmony said as she took off her helmet and dropped her parachute. "The lair has to be behind the waterfall." Jack said casually as if it were the most obvious thing. He had already taken off his helmet and parachute. "Oh, right…" Harmony said as if She knew that but had simply forgotten.
They approached the edge of the stream as Jack began to examine the cliff face while Harmony looked around in wonder at the beauty of her surroundings. Closely examining the cliff Jack noticed a few black specks protruding from the rock surface which he could only assume were security cameras. Jack picked up a nearby rock in his hand before looking back at Harmony. "Hey Harmony." Jack called. "Yes daddy?" Harmony asked sweetly as she walked over. "You see those security cameras?" Jack asked as he pointed to the black spots on the cliff next to the waterfall. He figured she probably had super human sight and could easily see them.
Jack's assumption was correct, Harmony did indeed have super human sight just like Brandi and maybe even Kim. "Oh Yea, I see them." Said Harmony. "Do you think you could hit them from here?" Jack asked as he held the rock out to her. "Sure, no problem." Harmony said with a smile as she took the rock from Jack's hand and beamed it at one of the cameras. The rock hit it with pin point accuracy, smashing the camera to bits. Jacks eyes widened. He expected her to be able to do it but it was still a sight to see. Harmony than picked up a few more rocks and smashed the last remaining cameras. "All done. What's next?" Harmony asked as she brushed her hands together knocking the dirt off. "We climb the rock face and find the entrance behind the waterfall." Jack said as he began walking along the stream as Harmony fallowed till they came to the rock wall and began climbing up the cliff as they made their way towards the waterfall.
Jack and Harmony eventually found the entrance behind the waterfall and hid just around the corner as they peeked inside the lair. Inside the lair they saw Drakken working on something as Shego stood by handing him tools as he called for them. "Nano weld resistor." Said Dr. Drakken as he held out his hand. "Yes Dr. Drakken." Shego replied in a strange overly cheerful and robotic voice as she handed him what he requested. "I love this. Hand me a fork." Said Dr. Drakken. "Yes Dr. Drakken." Shego said as she went to go get a fork while Drakken began laughing wildly. "Get me a Dodo bird." Drakken said as he through the fork somewhere across the room once Shego had brought it to him. "Yes Dr. Drakken." Shego said as she went to search the lair for said Dodo bird while Drakken began laughing at her. "Sike! Dodo birds are extinct. I'm just being an ass." Said Drakken as he finished his laughter.
"I Know I only met her once but something seems off about her." Harmony whispered casually. "Yea, something is clearly wrong. She must have that mind control chip on her." Jack whispered back. Harmony frowned as she looked down, feeling bad for Shego. They both than watched as Shego came back from her failed quest to find a Dodo bird to stand by Dr. Drakken once again. "Here we are, a new compliance chip. Isn't it lovely?" Said Dr. Drakken as he held up the device he had been working on with a pair of tweezers. It looked like a little red square circuit board. "Yes, it is love-a-ly" Replied Shego with an overly joyful yet emotionless tone of voice. "Couldn't you show a little more enthusiasm!?" Yelled Dr. Drakken as he was for some reason annoyed with her tone of voice.
Jack had seen enough. He was angered about Drakken placing a mind control chip on her, but yelling at her was the last straw. "Leave her alone fuck wad!" Jack roared as he burst into the room as Harmony fallowed to stand beside him, causing Shego And Dr. Drakken to turn suddenly in shock. Jack saw the frozen wide eyed look ok on Shego's face and it just caused him to get angrier. As their eyes met there was no emotion to them but Jack could Hear her voice inside his head. "Jack, help me. Please!" Shego begged as she talked to him telepathically through their mental link. Jack felt his blood boiling with rage and knew that he had to be careful or she would surly Kill Drakken for this.
"Intruders!?" Exclaimed Drakken with great shock. "Why didn't you tell me!?" Drakken shouted at Shego. "I was looking for a Dodo bird." Shego said, finishing with a goofy plastic smile. "Well you didn't have to look far. He was right in front of you the whole time." Jack shot the insult at Dr. Drakken, choosing to vent his anger with humor rather than murderous rage. Shego would have burst out laughing if she wasn't being controlled by the compliance chip hidden somewhere on her body. She was laughing internally however and felt safe knowing that Jack was now here to rescue her. Drakken groaned before yelling; "Get them!" As he pointed to Jack and harmony. Jack began engaging Shego as Harmony ran and drop kicked Drakken across the room, knocking him out as his head hit the floor.
A bunch of Drakken's red goons than poured into the room and began attacking Harmony but she was much faster than them. As one went to swing his staff at her she jumped over it as he fell forward and harmony landed as she dug the pointed heels of her boots into his back causing him to yell out in pain. "Freaky!" Harmony yelled as she began attacking the rest of Drakkens goons. Meanwhile Jack was fighting Shego, she had become much better since he had been training her. Jack knew that he had to subdue her so he could find the chip and get if off her but every time he went for an attack she blocked and redirected it. He realized that normally he was the one on defense and that was the basis of his fighting style but now the tables were turned and he was on the attack while Shego was on defense and seeing as he had been training her she had the advantage.
"The chip is on the back of my neck." Shego told him telepathically. "And later you're going to have to explain to me why she is helping you." Shego said again telepathically. Jack just nodded. He didn't try to explain it to her now since talking to her telepathically took a lot of effort and energy. Seeing as he wasn't having much luck so far in this fight Jack took a step back and waited for Shego to come at him so he could turn the tables but she didn't. "Damn." Jack thought. She may not have been in control but the chip knew what she knew so it knew how to fight him. If Jack had wanted to he could still beat Shego even though he was on the attack but that could require hurting her and he wasn't sure he was willing to do that. Hurting her would bring him a lot of guilt weather she was mad at him for it or not.
Jack just stood staring at the robotically ecstatic looking Shego as he thought of what to do. He wasn't sure he could wear her down. She was super human after all, and even if he could that could take hours. Jack decided to reengage Shego as he came in with a lightning fast kick to the side of her knee but she lifted her leg and blocked it than did a palm stroke to his shoulder sending him toppling over backwards. Jack quickly rolled back onto his feet and looked at her with a smirk. "I'm glad you have been paying attention." Jack told her proudly as he told her telepathically. "Thanks. However right now I wish I hadn't been." Shego told him back telepathically. She was starting to worry he wouldn't be able to get the chip off her.
Just than one of Drakken's red goons went flying across the room, drawing Shego's attention to the flying man as he hit the wall on the far side of the room. Harmony then leapt onto Shego's back and wrapped her arms and legs around her and tackling Shego to the ground. "Harmony, the chip is on the back of her neck!" Jack called out. As Shego struggled in Harmony's grasp Harmony snaked a hand behind her long black hair and found the chip on the back of her neck and pulled it off. Once the chip was off Harmony let go of Shego as Jack came over and helped Shego up.
Shego groaned as she held her head with one hand and got up with Jack's help using her other hand. "Thanks Jack." Shego said in a dazed tone. "Hello mom." Harmony said sweetly once they had both gotten up. Shego quickly turned to Harmony. "Mom!?" Shego asked with shock. "Ok, you have some serious explaining to do later." Shego said somewhat angry as she poked Jack in the chest a few times. "I know I do." Jack said nonchalantly with a small smirk.
Shego than noticed Drakken regaining consciousness. "I'll see you later Jack." Shego said in a slightly passive aggressive tone as she winked at him for only him to see before pushing past him and storming over to Dr. Drakken. She didn't know how much Adrena-Lynn knew about their relationship and since Drakken had just woken up she had to put on an act like they weren't friends. "You! You fucking blue asshole! You think you can just mind control me and get away with it!?" Shego roared with more and more aggression with every ward she spoke as she ignited her hands.
"Ah.. um… eh-ep- uh…" Dr. Drakken began to mutter as he put his hands up and backed away as he quaked with fear, soon finding his back pressed against the wall. "Fucking Dodos!? Time to play a sudden death round of Drakken goes ouch!" Shego yelled as she hurled a green ball of fire at his chest. Drakken jumped out the way just in time as he landed face down on the floor but Shego's green fireball had burned straight through the two foot thick concrete wall he was just cowering against like it was paper. Jack gulped as his eyes nearly popped out of his head as he saw the glowing green hole of melted concrete left in the wall. Truth be told seeing it actually really turned him on.
"I'm going to fucking kill you!" Shego roared as she hurled another bolt at Dr. Drakken with him narrowly scampering away in time as he made it to his feet and began running out the lair and jumped off the cliff and into the water below. Shego went to go after him but Jack grabbed her arm as he spun her around and pulled her in close to him as he planted a kiss on her soft green lips that had the upper one covered in her trademark black lipstick. Shego immediately melted as her mind went blank and she completely forgot about what was going on. Harmony giggled as she watched them.
After a moment Jack released her and she stood nearly limp, needing a moment to reboot. Jack chuckled lightly still holding her in his grasp. After rebooting Shego wanted to jump on him and kiss him some more but there were more pressing matters at hand. "Ok, start explaining! What is she doing here? And why on earth did she call me mom?" Shego demanded as she pointed at harmony. "Well it's kind of a long story." Jack said as he rubbed the back of his head as he looked away.
"Bullshit! You just don't want to tell me." Shego somewhat yelled as she crossed her arms and glared at him. Turning his attention back to her he could tell she was getting jealous and angry. Jack placed his hands on her shoulders and looked deeply into her eyes. "It's not like that." Jack pleaded. Shego sighed and looked down. "Alright. So explain." She said softly. "Adrena-Lynn's real name is Harmony. Harmony is a 19 year old girl who was made in a lab. She is a genetically altered super human who was designed to be a super soldier. Growing up she had been sexually abused and has had no one. After our encounter with her she Kidnapped Kim since she couldn't find you. I came to rescue Kim and had to fight harmony where she told me all this during our fight. After I defeated her she told me that she didn't want to fight me but due to her programing and the fact she had gone insane from the years of abuse she wasn't able to stop herself from fighting me." Jack told Shego as he finished telling her what had happened.
Shego gasped with shock as she covered her mouth. "Oh my gosh… So she is totally insane?" Brandi/Shego felt bad for Harmony but she was also concerned about her mental state and if that made her dangerous. "Yea. But she is getting help. I'm taking her back to the hospital once were done here." Said jack as he removed his hands from her shoulders. "Wait, you took a mental patent from the hospital?" Shego asked in a somewhat angry growl. "It wasn't actually my idea. See, Kim's mom is her doctor and she seemed to think it was a good idea for Harmony to go with me." Jack said nonchalantly as he shook his head slightly. Meanwhile Harmony was examining some of Drakken's unconscious goons almost like she felt bad for them.
Shego groaned and face palmed as she shook her head. "Sounds like Kim's mom is crazy too. Oh well… It's her job on the line I suppose." Shego said with her left arm crossed across her chest and gesturing with her right. She than remembered something. "What… You still didn't explain why she called me mom or how much she knows about me. "Well she knows about you… Us… I kind of agreed to be her dad. So I think she called you mom as a joke?" Jack said sounding a bit unsure as he rubbed the back of his head.
"What!?" Shego exclaimed. "Telling her about me is one thing. A thing I am very mad about but understand since the whole freaky green glowing hands thing, but to agree to be her dad! Are you crazy!?" Shego exclaimed as she pointed a finger in his face. "Shh. Would you quiet down? I don't want her to feel bad. Look, she has no one else and if she needs a dad then so be it." Jack said as he grabbed onto Shego's arm only for her to pull it from his grasp and cross her arms. Shego groaned. "Alright, fine. But she is not calling me mom." Shego said as she finally conceded and placed her hands on her hips. She wasn't happy about it but she understood why Jack would agree to such a thing. His kind hart was one of the things she loved about him.
"So are you coming with us?" Jack asked. Shego sighed. "Yea, just let me get something real quick." Shego said before she walked out of the room. Harmony than walked over to Jack. "So how mad is mom?" Harmony asked as she whispered to Jack. Jack shrugged. She is a bit upset, but she will get over it. And She don't want you calling her mom." Jack told her. "Oh right, sorry." Said Harmony with a slightly guilty looking smile. Shego than came back out wearing her green backpack. "Ok, I'm ready." She told them. They all headed out the lair and down the mountain. Once a little ways away from the lair and seeing that Drakken was nowhere about Shego walked behind a tree a little way from the others and took off her green and black jumpsuit and changed into a pair of dark green hiking shorts, brown hiking boots, and a white tight fitting tank top. She than tied her hair back with a green scrunchy and put on her glasses as well as the cloaking bracelet that generated her disguise. She activated her disguise before coming out from behind the tree. "So you must have really missed me Jack. I see you're wearing my favorite sleeping shirt." Brandi teased making Jack blush slightly as she smirked deviously while walking past him.
The three walked for a while till they reached a clearing where the pilot had landed the pane. As they got on bored the pilot looked at the new person. "Hostage." Brandi said in a bored tone before the pilot had the chance to ask who she was. It wasn't technically a lie since she had been subject to Drakken's mind control. The pilot just shrugged as they took their seats against the right wall of the plane. Harmony was against the wall, Jack was on the outside, and Brandi was in the middle.
The plane was soon in the air and they were on their way back to Middleton Colorado. On the trip Harmony watched contently with a smile as Jack and Brandi slept with Brandi using Jack's shoulder as a pillow and drooling on him as they both snored. Once the plane had landed on the roof of the parking garage the three disembarked and Jack and Brando took Harmony to the mental ward. Ann seemed to explained the situation to the people who were on staff that night and getting Harmony checked in went smoothly.
"Bye mom, bye dad." Harmony said sweetly as she waved goodbye to Jack and Brandi as two doctors lead her away. "I'm not your mom." Brandi growled lowly with clenched teeth and a clenched fist. "Let it go Brandi, let it go." Jack said calmly as he placed his hands on Brandi's shoulders from behind and led her back down the fall from the way they came. In truth Brandi had actually always wanted to be a mother, but it hadn't worked out. She just didn't know harmony for one thing. And for another Harmony was 19 and Brandi was 25 so having Harmony call her mom made her feel old. However part of her was glad that she didn't feel jealous about Harmony like she did with other women when they were around Jack.
Back at home Jack and Brandi were getting ready for bed. While Jack lit the fireplace Brandi pulled the bible from her backpack that Jack had let her borrow and placed the book on the night stand. "So did you read any of it?" Jack asked as he stood up and turned to her. Brandi turned to meet his gaze with her beautiful dark green eyes. "Yea. I didn't really understand it, but I liked it. If that makes any sense..." Brandi said softly. "Jack chuckled with a small smile. It isn't something you can really understand without the guidance of the holy spirit." Jack told her. "Holy spirit… I think I remember reading something about it but I don't really understand what that is." Replied Brandi as she climbed into bed and looked at Jack.
"God is referred to in three parts, God the father, god the son, and god the holy spirit." Said Jack as he watched her. "So god is three?" Asked Brandi as she seemed engaged in learning, but in a calm way. "Don't really know. No one really does. The Bible is a book of mystery. Some things god reveals to the believer in time, other things we will never know. What I do know is in the beginning there was god who created the stars, the planets, and everything in them. The holy spirit is the part of god that can be felt and is all around us. And God the son, Jesus, is god who took human form. Jesus is also referred to as the ward of the lord its self. But I guess the question right now is, do you believe?" Said Jack.
Brandi lifted her hand and examined it before igniting it in green flames than looking back into Jack's eyes. "If I can have this power, than why can't what is written in this book be true?" Brandi asked as she picked up the bible off the night stand beside her and held it in her hand before placing it back and extinguishing her other hand.
Jack simply smiled and nodded before climbing into bed with her. She was slightly disappointed that he didn't have more to say on the matter but she was overjoyed to have him back by her side again. "You have no idea how much I missed this." Brandi said softly as they cuddled with her head on his chest as she looked up at him. "…I think I do… Because I missed it to." Jack said with a gentle softness. Brandi slowly moved her head to look him in the eyes. They both seemed to gaze deeply into each others eyes with gentle wonder before slowly moving closer and pressing their lips together in a warm gentle loving kiss.
The kiss was only a quick one that lasted about a second but it was all that was needed. As Brandi laid her head on Jack's chest she felt bad. She hadn't told him that without him around she had nightmares. She didn't want to tell him about the nightmares because it would reveal things that she wasn't ready to be let known. And for that she despised herself. It seemed things were developing quite seriously between them and she felt she needed to tell him these things that she didn't want known but she just couldn't seem to tell him for some reason. He would probably find out over the course of time and she just hoped that he wouldn't hate her for not telling him when he did.
Brandi just forced the thoughts from her mind and decided to enjoy the here and now. Because here and now she had more than she ever dreamed she could have. She was also thankful that they had figured out how to turn their mental link off or Jack would have sensed how she was feeling a moment ago and would have asked what was troubling her and then she would have been forced to tell him the things she didn't want to tell.
Authors note: I know I said last chapter I wasn't going to have Jack and Shego/Brandi Kiss again till later on in the story but I have decided to throw that out the window for a few reasons. For one I felt it would create an awkwardness between the two characters that I felt was not fitting of the type of relationship and closeness that they had. Two, after Jack's talk with the pilot it didn't make sense for Jack to fully accept Arena-Lynn/Harmony as his daughter but ignore his feelings for Shego/Brandi. And three, when Shego/Brandi was about to kill Dr. Drakken it seemed the best way for him to stop her. As far as what Shego/Brandi doesn't want known there is obviously her brothers and the fact she used to be a super hero, as well as something else I had subtly hinted at.
