Chapter 2: Pokemon Emergency!
Ophelia's POV
It was night time now, my sister was trying to sleep while I couldn't. I had Bastet out and was scratching behind her ears, my sitting on the bed, as she laid in my lap purring. She was a sweetheart, well to me anyways. I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about the Pewter City Gym.
I need a water pokemon to gain leverage, but I don't have one. Callista does, but she won't let borrow her, I know it. Maybe I could find one on the way? It'd have to be a good one, one that doesn't need water to move around. Like a Staryu, or Psyduck. The only problem is, none are common around here. Finding pokemon isn't easy, but I could try to find anything. So far, Hercules is good, but only against Geodude, not Onix. I can only use 2 pokemon in a battle as well… My only chance is to train my pokemon very well and search for a water type, or even an ice type. Ok, think. I'm in Viridian City right now. If I remember correctly, then there should be some water spots in Viridian forest. I thought as I pulled out my map. I looked where Viridian forest was and tracked all the points where deep water was. Callista could read maps too, but I was a bit better at it.
These are deep enough to hold good pokemon. Now, if I remember, there should be higher chances of finding Magikarp, Goldeen and Poliwag here, a mild chance at Tentacool, then slim chance to find any Slowpoke and Psyduck near the water and a Poliwhirl in the water and extremely rare to find Gyarados. As neat as it's be to have Tentacool, I'm better off trying to get Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Psyduck and Slowpoke. Though, Slowpoke is very slow, I could try to evolve it into a Slowking when the time's right. I thought with a sigh. I knew, from mom, that Slowking was rare and hard to evolve, but possible with a King's rock. I could only get it in the Johto region, though. Still, I had to come up with options. I then realized something… I didn't have fishing gear! I had a fold up pole, yes, but no tackle and no bait!
Oh no! Ok, calm down. I'll just buy one in the morning, no problem. I thought before I heard tires screech. Bastet poked her head up from that.
"Meow meow?" (What was that?) She asked in a sleepy tone.
"Tires? I better check this out." I say quietly.
"Meow.~" (I'll come too.) Bastet agreed. We got up and walked out to the lobby, just to see Officer Jenny riding her bike off and a familiar boy sitting on the bench, looking beat up and sad.
"Ash?" I asked quietly. The boy, Ash Ketchum, looked up and saw me.
"Ophelia?" He asked suddenly.
"What happened?" I asked him as I went and sat with him. He told me what happened and I looked at the door to see the light was on. I reached out and held Ash's hand.
"Hey, it'll be okay." I say words of comfort.
"You think so?" He asked me.
"I know so." I say with a comforting smile.
"Meow meow." (He's a cutie.) Bastet said as she jumped on Ash's lap.
"Huh? A pokemon?" Ash questioned.
"That's Bastet, my meowth, and she thinks you're cute." I tell her. Ash then looked right at me.
"Hold on. How do you know that?" Ash asked me.
Shoot! I can't tell him I can talk to pokemon! I thought as I saw Bastet snuggling up to him.
"Because look at her. She obviously likes you and, therefore, thinks you're cute." I defended. Ash looked at Bastet before back at me.
"I, guess so." He said before looking at the light on the door. I could feel his sadness. He then looked at the phones.
"Call home. That might help you feel better." I say to him. Ash nods.
"I'll call home." He agreed. I clicked my tongue, causing Bastet to jump in my lap, before Ash got up and went to the phones. I looked back at the light before sighing.
"Meow meow?" (What's the matter?) I heard Bastet ask.
"I can feel his sadness. He, like me, truly cares about pokemon. Not for their strengths or for looks, but because he sees them as living things. Same as I do." I explained to her.
"Meow meow meow." (Sounds like you have a crush on him.) She taunted me. I blushed from embarrassment.
"I-I do not! Ash is, well, just a boy I know!" I stammered out to her.
"Meow meow meow. Meow, meow meow, meow meow meow?" (Doesn't seem like it. Oh well, if you say so, then why blush?) She asked me.
"B-Because it's an embarrassing question!" I stammer out. Bastet rolled her eyes but gave a small smile. I sighed and scratched that one side of her lower cheek/chin area she loved. Bastet began purring.
"You don't seem to understand humans well, but I see Ash as a friend, a brother even, nothing more, nothing less." I tell her.
"Meow.~" (Whatever.~) She purred out. We then had a phone call and it was Professor oak.
While he and Ash talked, I listened in. I then realized Ash saw the same bird pokemon I did, but the picture frame wasn't showing the right ones. I knew what they were. Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. The three legendary bird pokemon. There is rumor of a fourth, but no one in Kanto knew what it looked like, so until Johto can send them a proper description, in the place of the fourth was an Arcanine. Then Professor oak mentioned Anchovies, Spinach and pineapple pizza and I gagged.
"Meow meow." (Gross city.) She said quietly.
"Agreed." I say under my breath.
"Now I've got you!" I heard a girl call out. Ash and I looked to see a girl, his age, with short orange hair in a sideways ponytail one left side while bangs are spiked to the right, yellow tank top that showed her belly, blue jean shorts that were rolled up a bit to be shorter, red suspenders, sneakers, red carry over bag, pale skin and green eyes, looking very pissed at Ash. She was also carrying a torched bike over her shoulders.
"I knew I'd find you here!" She yelled at him. Ash seemed shock as he pointed to her bike.
"Hey, what happened to your bike?" Ash asked, seeming shocked and confused.
"What happened to my bike? You happened to my bike, you little loser!" She screamed at him. I decided to just watch the show.
"Wish I had popcorn." I whispered to Bastet.
"Meow." (Same.) She said quietly. This girl was mad and storming closer to Ash, while he had a sweat drop on the back of his head, growing more and more nervous. She kept screaming at him until she fell backwards. I bolted up, lucky Bastet had decided to jump on Ash's bag, before rushing over to the girl.
"Let me help you." Ash said as he tried to help her. She smacked him away, though.
"I don't need your help and you're going to pay for what you did to my bike!" She yelled at him. I helped the girl up.
"Listen, Ash had a pokemon emergency. If the roles were reversed, he'd let you borrow his bike." I tell her.
"I don't know who you are, but he stole my bike and told me he'd bring it back!" She yells at me.
"You don't need to yell! There are people, like my sister, trying to sleep and pokemon that are trying to recover!" I scold her.
"I'll make up for it. I promise I will, really." Ash tell her in a sincere tone.
"I know he will to, because he always does the right thing." I tell her.
"I don't care! I want a new bike now!" She screamed at us.
"You listen to me! He can't do anything until his Pikachu's recovered! It's not doing too good and you yelling at him and being a total jerk isn't helping him at all!" I scold her very harshly. Her angry tone softened when she heard that, then looked at Ash as he looked down. She saw it was true. Her and Ash then glimpsed at the light that was still on.
"Is it very serious?" She asked him.
"I think so and there's nothing I can do to help now." He tells her as he looks back at the floor in sadness. I'm not to touchy feely on things, but I rested my hand on Ash's shoulder.
"Hey, it'll be alright. I'm positive about that." I tell him. He needed comfort.
"Oh." Was all Misty said. Then we heard a ping and looked to see the light was off. It was over. The doors soon opened to reveal Nurse Joy, 2 Chanseys and a sick bed with a Pikachu on it. We all rushed over to see how it was. I only call the Pikachu an 'it' because I'm not sure if it's a boy or girl just yet.
"Pikachu, are you alright?" Ash asked as we all looked down at the weak pikachu, still dirty and hooked up to a headband with a blinking lightbulb and wires on it that connected to a machine.
"Your Pikachu's resting. It's a good thing you got it here so fast. The procedure went well and it should be fine." Nurse Joy said happily.
"Thanks to the pokemon center." The girl said happily, thankful that the pikachu was alright. Ash had a small smile on his face.
"Yes, thank you very much." Ash thanked Nurse Joy.
"Now, your pokemon needs a good rest in the recovery room. You should go in with it, Ash." Nurse Joy said, happy to know this trainer was a good one that loved and cared for his pokemon.
"Thanks." Ash thanked her as he was beyond grateful. He then turned to the girl.
"Listen, I'm sorry about your bike, But I'm going to need time to make things right." Ash tells her. She then looked mad again.
"No way, I fell for that last time!" She yelled at him. I got between them.
"Ash, go rest with Pikachu, let me talk to her." I tell him. Ash wanted to protest, but he knew not to mess with me and was going to go until an alarm went off. I knew this would wake my sister as well.
"Your attention, please. Our Viridian City radar sensors have detected an aircraft belonging to a gang of pokemon thieves. If you have a pokemon in your possession, exercise extreme caution." We heard Officer Jenny say over the speaker. I went wide eyed as I realized all my pokemon were in the room with my sister, including Bastet's pokeball.
"Bastet!" I called out. She ran over and jumped in my arms for safety.
"Where are they heading?!" Ash asked in a panic.
"If I were a pokemon thief, then I'd steal from this pokemon center." I say just as we heard a crash. I looked and saw 2 pokeballs land and, there before us, came an Ekans and Koffing.
"Careful! Ekans is poison type and Koffing can use smog and smoke screen!" I warned as Bastet hissed at them. Then the smoke screen happened.
"What the-" Ash said but coughed as I covered my nose and mouth.
"Don't be frightened, little boy." A woman's voice said to ash. I looked and could make out 2 figures from the smog.
"Allow us to introduce ourselves." I heard a male voice say. Honestly, the male voice sounded attractive.
"To protect the world from devastation..." The girl started out.
"To unite all peoples within our nation..." The guy added.
"To denounce the evils of truth and love..." The girl added to it.
"To extend our reach to the stars above.." The man added to it as the smog cleared to reveal a man and a woman in matching uniforms, though the lady's was sexy and, honestly, I liked the style a bit.
The woman had long red hair, going backwards in a weird way with a curl after it and blue eyes. The man, however, had short light purple hair, just above his shoulders, green eyes and was holding a rose. Honestly, if he wasn't a bad guy. He'd be hot enough to date. Both looked about my age, 15 or a bit older, so not too surprising. I then noticed the R on their shirts and remembered a warning mom told us. R meant Team Rocket, Pokemon thieves that steal rare pokemon, or any in general, to experiment on and other awful things.
"Jessie." The lady introduced herself.
"James." The man said as he lowered his rose a bit.
"Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!" Jessie called out as she did a pose with her Ekans.
"Surrender now, or prepare to fight!" James added as he posed with his Koffing.
"Meowth! That's right!" I heard before a meowth popped up from above. My jaw dropped at the talking Meowth.
"Hold up! Your Meowth can talk?!" I gawked. Unless it was psychic, Pokemon don't talk like people.
"Yeah, what about it?" The meowth asked.
"So cool! How?!" I gasped out. Yeah, I was nerdy with this stuff, but how often do you come across talking pokemon?
"Not the time!" The girl scolded me.
"What are they talking about?" Ash asked suddenly.
"Ash! This is Team Rocket! A bad team that steal pokemon for bad reasons!" I scolded, wondering how dense/sheltered he was from all of this.
"Smart girl." James said while still holding his rose.
"You're not getting Pikachu!" Ash yelled as he got protective over Pikachu.
"Or Bastet!" I say as I got very protective over my meowth.
"Meow!" (Yeah!) She agreed.
"Pikachu? We're not interested in your precious electric rat." Jessie commented.
"Actually, Pikachu is an electric mouse, not a rat. Rattata and Raticate are rats." I commented.
"Not helping!" The girl scolded me.
"We seek only rare and valuble pokemon." James commented. As they kept talking, I noticed my twin had stepped out but quietly hid behind the desk. I hoped they wouldn't notice her. She showed me both her and my pokemon and I nod once to show I saw.
"Koffing, attack!" James yelled out.
"Ekans, go!" Jessie yelled after. Koffing started to use smoke screen all over, but Callista summoned Breezy.
"Breezy! Use gust!" Callista called out.
"Free~ Free.~" (I'm on it.) She cried before the gust cleared the smoke away. It helped us make a run for it but I saw Ekans. I tossed Bastet onto the cart and put my arm out to protect myself. Why did I do this? Because if I run and let it miss us, Callista would be trapped by Ekans. In short, I got bit by Ekans protecting my sister.
"Ah!" I cried out as I felt the teeth sink in and the Ekans coil around me.
"Ophelia!" Callista cried out. Bastet ran over.
"Meow!" (Let her go!) She yelled before sinking her teeth into Ekans. The Ekans let me go while crying out. This gave me the chance to run.
"Bastet!" I called out.
"Meow." (Coming.) She replied and ran with me. Callista and I managed to catch up with the others before we hid in a room. We stayed quiet as we heard the Koffing and Ekans move by. I cringed and held my arm close to me. I was bleeding.
"Sis, you're hurt." Callista whispered to me.
"I'm alright." I say softly.
"That looks bad." Nurse Joy says as she looked at my arm.
"I'm ok." I say as the lights flickered before turning off completely. This wasn't good.
"Hey, the lights." The girl said suddenly.
"They must've cut the power." Nurse Joy explained.
"But don't worry. We got our own Pika-Power source." She added before the lights flickered back on. I saw all the pikachu running on a little treadmill in a circle while sparking.
"Pika Pika Chu Chu!" They chanted repeatedly. I looked at Bastet to know what they were chanting.
"Meow meow meow meow." (One Two Three Four.) She tells me. I nodded before noticing the pokeballs.
"Are these all the pokemon?" I asked suddenly.
"Other than the Chanseys running around, yes." Nurse Joy tells me. She then went onto the computer to transfer them to Pewter City Pokecenter.
"We need to help." I say as I stood up, but got dizzy.
"Sis?" Callista said worriedly.
"I'm ok." I say to her. That's when the door burst open and the Koffing floated in.
"Koffing!" It announced.
"Bastet! Use Fury Swipe!" I call out. She obeyed and used Fury Swipe. Koffing dodged and slammed into the pokeballs.
"You guys clean up, Callista and I can battle!" I tell them. Callista got next to me and handed me my pokeballs.
"You think you two can take us?" Jessie taunted us.
"We know so!" We say in unison. Bastet got in front of me protectively as Ekans tried to intimidate her. Breezy was next to Bastet and got nervous.
"Breezy, use sleep powder!" She called out. Breezy did as told but it wasn't working.
"It's not working!" Callista cried out worriedly.
"Face it, you're just weak." Jessie taunted her.
"Don't talk about my twin like that!" I screamed out.
"Bastet, use fury swipe!" I call out. She did on Ekans and the Ekans freaked out.
"Breezy! Use gust on Koffing!" Callista called out. Breezy did and it knocked Koffing back into Ekans. Ash made a run for it while the girl helped Nurse Joy run a different way with the pokeballs.
"You two will pay!" Jessie said in anger.
"Doubt it, hag." I tell her. She got red at that point.
"What did you call me?!" She screamed out.
"Time for my turn!" Moewth called out.
"Bastet, use charm." I say casually. She did and the Meowth became entranced.
"Meowth! So lovely!" He cooed over Bastet.
"Breezy, use gust!" Callista called out. Breezy did and they all flew back. Unfortunately, they all ran towards Ash.
"We have to stop them!" I say and start to run, but got dizzy and fell to my knees.
"Sis!" She cried out before running to me. She then saw my arm was beginning to swell and change colors.
"You're poisoned." She says softly.
"I didn't want to worry anyone right now." I say as I felt warm.
Why take the bite?" She asked me.
"If I would've dodged it, you would've been stuck or bit." I tell her. She looked at me.
"You… Did that… to save me?" She asked me.
"Yeah. You might be a royal pain but, in the end, you're my sister, my twin, and I'll always be there to help you." I say to her with a soft smile. That's when all the lights flickered before a loud explosion was heard. It was too much and I fainted.
Callista's POV
I teared up at her words. We always fought, but I never thought she'd care that much for me. Now was my turn to help her.
"Breezy, stay here with Bastet. I need to get Nurse Joy." I say before bolting. I had to hurry. I soon found her and Misty at the front. Almost the whole place was destroyed, minus where Sis and I were and our rooms.
"Nurse Joy! Help!" I called out.
"What's wrong?" She asked me worriedly as Officer Jenny arrived.
"Ophelia! She was poisoned by the Ekans bite! Please, help her!" I beg her.
"Oh my! Chansey! Get the anti-venom!" Nurse Joy called out. Chansey got it and they rushed to help her.
"She… She got hurt to help me." I say softly to Ash, a boy I didn't like much but knew from home, before deciding to run back. I needed to be there for her. I heard the two follow me as I saw Nurse Joy and Chansey bandage her up.
"She'll be fine, but she needs to rest." Nurse Joy tells me. I went over to her and sat by her side.
She would've done the same for me, after all. Nurse Joy helped to make her comfortable while Ash had gotten our stuff for us. The girl introduced herself as Misty and I told her mine and my sister's name, also pointing out we were twins. Misty seemed nice. Bastet slept on Ophelia's stomach, protecting her, up until the sun rose. Once it rose, she woke up.
"Hey. How are you feeling?" I asked her. She rubbed her eyes.
"Better." She mumbled as she noticed her arm wasn't swelled and bandaged.
"I got Nurse Joy to help you." I tell her.
"Were you up all night?" She asked me. I nodded yes.
"It was only a small while, but I refused to leave your side." I tell her. She looked at me then at Bastet.
"Meow meow." Bastet meowed at her. Ophelia then looked at me.
"Thank you." She says with a small smile. I helped her up and we got ready to head out.
"You didn't have to do that." She tells me.
"Yeah, I did. I lost some beauty sleep, but you're my sister, you needed me." I tell her with a genuine smile. She rolled her eyes but smiled back. We put Breezy and Bastet away before she told me what she wanted to do.
"You want your own water pokemon?" I asked her.
"I can't rely on yours all the time." She explained to me.
"Ok! Besides, I want to find a new adorable pokemon!" I say cheerfully. I saw her eye roll and ignored it. We then saw Ash and Misty and went up to them.
"Hey, since we're heading into Viridian Forest, how about we travel together for a bit?" I suggested.
"Sounds great!" Ash said happily.
"I just have to stop at a store quick." Ophelia tells them.
"I'm only following Ash because he owes me a new bike," Misty says as she glares at Ash.
"Not this again." Ash muttered. I was confused but Ophelia brought me up to speed.
"Oh! Ok, I get it now!" I say happily.
"Oh, I'm Misty." Misty said to Ophelia.
"I'm Ophelia." She replied before we headed to the store, saying goodbye to Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny. We went into a shop and sis bought bait and a small tackle box. She secured it to her bag so it wouldn't open.
"How can you carry all that?" Misty asked.
"I worked on a ranch, nothing new with heavy lifting, plus worked out more since I've had Hercules." Ophelia said as I decided to buy a fishing pole and a small tackle box too.
"Hercules?" Misty asked suddenly.
"Her Machop." I pipe up as I put the new pole and tackle gear in my suitcase.
"You have a Machop?" Ash asked suddenly.
"Yup." Ophelia said before she showed she was ready. Soon, we hiked out into the forest. I didn't like it and Misty didn't either. We heard something and her and I shrieked. We shrieked more at a caterpie, even if they evolve into Butterfree, Misty and I confessed we didn't like most bug pokemon.
"Ash saw it before me, therefore, it's all yours Ash." Ophelia said as she stepped aside to let him get it.
"Thanks!" Ash said excitedly.
I couldn't believe she refused the caterpie, especially since she wants her own Butterfree, but I saw Ophelia had a look in her eyes. A determined one. She wants a water pokemon, therefore, she'd be hunting for one to use. Ash threw the pokeball at the caterpie, who seemed to want to be caught, as the pokeball hit it. After a few shakes, caterpie was caught. Ash cheered like a dork while my sister chuckled at his dorkiness. That's when Ash revealed that was the first pokemon he ever caught.
"Hey sis, you haven't caught a wild pokemon at all, huh?" I asked suddenly.
"I have!" She shrieked at me.
"No. You saved Bastet, not caught her, Nightmare Moon was a gift and Dad caught and trained Hercules." I say to her.
"Same with you when it comes to Ariel and Day Breaker!" She tells me.
"But I caught Breezy. My first wild pokemon caught. Bastet only stayed with you because you saved her. Face it, you haven't really caught a wild pokemon." I taunt her. She then realized I was right and sulked.
"Aw man." She muttered out.
"Don't worry, you'll get one soon." Ash tells her. She looked up and smiled.
"Thanks Ash." She said with a smile. I always busted her chops. Why? I'm not sure really. I just do. Maybe because she's strong, or smart, but either way I was the prettier one and the talented one. That was that.
So how was it? I am a bit lazy with dialogue but I figured some people don't always pay attention or listen at times. Enjoy!
