Chapter 10- The son

"AAAAAAAARGHHHH!"

Kennedy's eyes opened as she found herself hanging upside down a tree via a web line without any pants.

"GET ME DOWN! GET ME DOWN! GET ME DOWN!"

Later, Kennedy, now having pants that clearly were too tight for her, stormed into the house to see Peter and Dawn.

"You two, how dare you do that to me?" Kennedy sneered at them. "I didn't even look at Willow after you two told me to stay away."

"Well, we figured we'd still do it as a warning", Dawn shrugged as she and Peter shared a look and did a high-five.

"So remember, if you do it again, the actual punishment would be much worse", Peter warned with a smirk that made Kennedy pale and back off.

Buffy then walked in and asked. "What's the matter?"

"These two pranked me!" Kennedy said, pointing at the two.

"So? They prank us all the time, I've learnt to live with it, you should too, by the way, Giles is taking all Potentials for a spiritual journey, best you go too", Buffy told her without any care in her voice as Kennedy did an 'URRRRGHH!' and stomped her feet on the ground like the brat she was before storming off.

Buffy then turned to Peter and Dawn gave them a thumbs up with a smirk as both smiled, and she raised her hands, high-fiving them both at the same time.

Sometime later, Curt was standing by the microwave, reading a manual when Peter walked next to him.

"You don't need a manual for that, what kind of scientist are you?" Peter asked, and Curt realized who it was from the tone.

"One who's not in the mood for bullshit", Curt shrugged.

'Peter' whispered to him. "Be prepared when something big happens."

Bucky was looking over his guns when he heard a familiar voice that made him pale.

"Sergeant Barnes."

He turned around to see Howard Stark standing before him, a smile on his face, but Bucky knew who he was.

"Oh, its you, what do you want?" Bucky asked with a scoff.

"Why to talk and have some drinks, what do you say pal?" 'Howard' asked.

"I say stop pretending to be other people and leave me alone", Bucky sneered.

"You have quite the arsenal here, wonder if you slip up and shoot the girls", 'Howard' said with a chuckle.

"Not interested anymore", Bucky said as he turned around so the First faded away.

Night time

Buffy, Spike and Faith were patrolling together in the cemetery, with Peter patrolling the whole city in general.

"So, think anyone's gonna show up here?" Faith wondered.

"Well, you know, they never seem to learn", Spike shrugged just as they heard fighting from an alley nearby and turned their heads in the direction, and saw some Vampires fighting a man.

Buffy's eyes narrowed as she recognized who the man fighting the Vampires was. "Wood?"

"The Principal?" Spike asked and Buffy nodded as the three rushed to help him.

Buffy spin kicked one of the Vampires away easily and swept another's feet from under him while Spike decked one twice and leaping, kicked another away, and Faith elbowed one on the face in a spin motion before blocking another's blow and knocking that one back with a punch of her own too.

Buffy blocked another Vamp's strike and struck his wrist, making him gasp before she took out her stake and dusted him, while Spike kicked another Vamp's feet from under him and staked him as well, and Faith kicked one more on the face, staggering him back, and then staked him before he could recover.

Buffy raised her arm to block the next Vamp's blow, then decked him in the neck, making him stagger forwards as she staked him, with Spike grabbing a Vampire from behind and staking him as well, and Faith staked another in a spin motion, turning him to dust as well.

Robin managed to knock the last Vampire to the ground and staked that one as well, taking out all of the Vampires present in the area, and then he flipped the stake in his hand before returning it to his belt holster, and turned to look at the other three in front of him.

"I guess we should all talk then."

"Maybe we should walk and talk?" Faith suggested, and he nodded as they started walking together to talk from that moment forth.

"So, how did you do that?" Buffy finally asked him.

"Yeah, blokes don't get so lucky", Spike agreed with Buffy. "You had training."

Wood chuckled. "I've had a little practise."

"That seemed more than little, what you just did here a while ago", Faith pointed out to Wood and he nodded, conceding her point about his fighting skills.

"Never taken on more than one at once before but I have taken out a Vamp here or there", Wood confessed to the three of them. "And then some Demons as well."

"So, you're what, freelance in that case or something?" Buffy finally put up her question when Wood was done explaining about himself.

"Freelance, huh?" Wood thought about it and nodded. "That's a good way to put it for sure."

"In that case, you have to know who she is", Spike said as he gestured to Buffy, and then Faith too. "And her too."

"You're the Slayer", Wood said to Buffy, then looked at Faith in confusion. "And I'm guessing you are too. How did we get two at once?"

"Long story, not important", Faith said with a shrug.

Buffy noted about Wood. "OK, um, so I'm guessing that you don't work in an office 15 feet above the hell mouth because you enjoy educational administration?"

Wood tried to save face at first. "Well, I actually do enjoy the work, but yeah. Yeah, you're right. I maneuvered myself into that school, that office—" He decided it was best to confess now, "just like I maneuvered you there." He gave an explanation. "The hell mouth draws the bad things in close, and now we're headed for something big, Buffy. Really big, and I need to be here when it happens. I want to help."

Buffy asked him. "So, y-you didn't hire me for my counseling skills?"

Wood laughed heartily at first, then saw Buffy's hurt look as Spike spoke up. "The woman doesn't like her skills mocked and questioned like that, you know?"

"Yeah, I wouldn't be pleased if you hired me to be an English teacher and then revealed you hired me because I'm a Slayer", Faith agreed with Spike, looking at Wood, who seemed uncomfortable.

So he then said straight-faced. "The counselling skills are valuable too."

Buffy then asked Wood the important question. "Wh-why didn't you tell me about you?"

Wood made another confession. "I wasn't sure about things yet."

Buffy wondered "Y-you didn't think you could trust me?"

"Considering you came into this school, and then hired the Slayer because she is the Slayer, I think you are the one who we should have doubts about trusting, mate", Spike said with a shrug. "Anything to say, huh?"

Wood assured them all. "It wasn't about trust or anything like that. I get that its you who need to trust me. Look, its that, I wasn't sure I was ready yet—ready to jump into this fight."

Faith asked the relevant question again. "And now you are?"

Wood pointed out with a sigh. "Well, now the fight is starting—or starting to start—and I don't have time to worry anymore. I have to do something."

Buffy realized. "So, you knew who I was before you even came here."

Wood nodded, confessing. "Yes."

"How?" Buffy wondered. "How do you know about Slayers?"

"Right", Wood nodded at them. "OK. See, when I was a little boy, my mother was one. The one, actually—the Slayer."

"Your mother—" Buffy sighed. "Wow, I didn't know that any Slayers had children."

Spike really wished there was some prophecy about a Vampire with a soul and a Slayer having a kid now, because he'd love to give Buffy one if she ever wanted a kid.

Wood shrugged and then sighed sadly. "Well, I don't know of any others. She was killed when I was four. I still remember her, but it's a little...fuzzy? You know?"

Buffy nodded nervously. "Um, something got her... a demon—?"

"A Vampire", Wood revealed and then continued. "Oh, man, I went through this whole "avenging son" phase in my twenties, but I never found him. So, now I just dust as many of them as I can find. I figure, eventually I'll get him. That's probably why I even got jumped here until you guys saved me. I'm not very popular with the bumpy-foreheaded crowd, and I bet you aren't either."

Buffy shook her head sadly. "No. Not most of them."

Faith then asked Wood. "So your mom was a Slayer. Um, so, do you have any Slayer powers?" She chuckled. "I'm sorry, I—I'm just really surprised, you know? With stuff like this."

"So am I", Buffy said, agreeing with her fellow Slayer. "I-I have no idea what to ask."

Faith was wondering if a kid of her and Matt would have Slayer powers, or maybe the Devil's power.

Yeesh!

She didn't want their kid to inherit both of their powers, because both came from a Demon each.

Wood told the three of them. "No, I don't have powers. No super-strength or mythic responsibilities. I'm just a guy with a few skills 'cause her Watcher took me in and raised me."

"So, you decided to tell me?" Buffy then asked Wood.

"Yeah, right, I did", Wood said with a nod.

"On a darkened, little and long street, huh?" Buffy asked. "All three of us."

"Um, yeah…." Wood nodded. "Yeah, I'm not really sure how that happened, but yeah."

Spike looked Wood up and down, his eyes narrowed. A Vampire had killed his mom, a Slayer. Spike knew he was the only Vampire who had killed any Slayer, and he had killed 2.

Plus, his last one had begged to be spared because she wanted to return to her son, and Wood seemed to be the right age.

No! It couldn't be! Was it really him?

Spike looked away, hoping it really wasn't Wood, it shouldn't be him. He had taken this guy's mother from him.

Bucky was working on his guns again when 'Howard' appeared before him once more. "Hello Sergeant Barnes."

At the same time, in front of Natasha appeared Loki. "Agent Romanoff." Natasha didn't respond as he smirked at her.

"What do you want?" Bucky asked the First. "If you want to kill your Potentials, don't think I'm the right choice, there's no trigger on me anymore, Curt has it."

"It's not his time yet", 'Howard' shrugged. "You know, I helped you and Steve so much during the war, so I have to say, when I dreamed of reuniting with you, Cap and the others, I really didn't see my face getting smashed in as part of the experience. This is what I get as repayment for all I did for you all?"

"Oh, its you, well, the God you turned into is dead, and you're incorporeal, not much you can do", Natasha shrugged. "What do you want?"

"Tell me, Agent Romanoff, have you wiped the red in your ledger yet?" 'Loki' asked with a cruel smirk.

"No, and I don't think I ever will", Natasha confessed. "But I'm going to keep scrubbing till the day I die, no matter how much it hurts my hands."

"Noble sentiments, you really have changed from who I met back then, but tell me, can you ever wipe out that much red? I do not think even your death would wipe it out", Loki said, and then turned into Dreykov. "Like him."

Natasha remained unmoved at his sight.

"Taking children from their parents", the First transformed into RJ Nakajima. "Children from their parents, it's a very recurring them with you. But let's face it", it morphed into everyone Bucky had killed over the years, starting from the scientist that Natasha was guarding, and then turning into various SHIELD Agents he had slaughtered as the Winter Soldier during the fall of SHIELD, and then it finally turned into Bucky's handler whom Zemo had murdered. "That is hardly the worst you've ever done, Soldier." Vasily Karpov said in Russian, and then it turned into Maria Stark. "When will it end? When will you finally stop killing people?" She wept like the real Maria had when Bucky had murdered her.

"You were a monster who used little girls", Natasha said to 'Dreykov'. "I don't have to justify myself to you."

"What about me?" Dreykov transformed into Antonia Dreykov, and Natasha's eyes widened as she stepped back involuntarily, unshed tears actually entering her eyes. "I not bad, I a kid. You killed me for dad."

"I'm sorry", Natasha said, shaking her head. "I wanted out, I didn't see a way. I didn't want to-"

"Me forgive you, if you kill other girls", Antonia shrugged.

"What?" Natasha asked.

"Potential girls", Antonia told her.

"How hard would it be?" 'Bucky' himself asked Bucky. "Nothing compared to a lot of other stuff we've done, just a little slaughter."

"So if they go, you get your power, right?" Bucky asked the First with a smirk. "So, if they're around, you don't get anything. Any other weaknesses you have?"

The First's eyes narrowed. "Do you have a wire?"

"What? You didn't know that till now? I thought you were present everywhere", Natasha quipped as 'Antonia' glared angrily.

In the nearby room Willow, Tara, Dawn, Xander, Anya, Giles, Amanda, Felicia, Curt, Fitz, Simmons, Bobbi and Hunter were all listening to the First taunting both Bucky and Natasha, and suddenly it appeared in front of them as Coulson.

"Get out of here", Willow snarled, holding hands with Tara.

"You won't be doing any damage today", Tara agreed with her girlfriend.

The 4 SHIELD Agents looked at 'Coulson' with wide eyes as he smirked and said. "Hey guys, what's up? I know you can do it, you always could", 'Coulson' smirked cruelly. "But you did have me back then, I'm not around to protect you from your stupidity and the consequences of your mistakes any longer." He looked decayed and sneered. "You didn't try hard enough to prevent this." He turned to Curt. "And you will pay." And with that, he disappeared in a flash of light.

"Okay, that was horrifying, even my old boss would agree", Anya rambled.

"I've seen it before, its not very nice", Dawn muttered. "This was tame."

"Damn!" Xander said.

"Well, at least it couldn't manipulate Bucky and Natasha to do what it wanted", Felicia pointed out the bright side. "It was lucky it didn't come at me."

The 4 SHIELD Agents looked shaken though and didn't say a word about this.

Curt simply sipped some coffee and sighed. "I wonder what it plans to do to me."

"Don't worry Professor, we won't let it take you again", Amanda assured him.

"This proves that time is very crucial. Get Buffy, Faith, Spike and Peter back here, we must discuss all of this with them", Giles told all of them.

The four were attacked by some more Vampires as Buffy staked one, and Faith flipped another down before staking him, and Spike took Vamp face, staking a third, and Wood noticed his face.

"He's a Vampire!" Wood let out.

He was punched by one Vamp but managed to stake him, as Buffy, Spike and Faith staked one each, taking them all down.

Spike took normal face as Buffy held hands with him, and Wood noticed their closeness, his eyes narrowing.

"Well, you can trust me", Wood assured them. "I will help you out in whatever way you need."

Later, Spike and Buffy sat together at home as Spike asked. "So, what did you think about what Willow and Tara just told us?"

"Yeah, the First is back in the mix", Buffy sighed.

"I have to tell you something", Spike confessed as Buffy looked at him. "The Principal guy…..Wood."

"Yeah?"

"I killed his mother", Spike confessed, looking ashamed and guilty. "She was the Slayer, I was a Vampire, it was back when-"

"You didn't have a soul", Buffy assured Spike, hugging him as he hugged her back. "Don't blame yourself. You became a better man, okay?"

"Okay."

Principal Wood was bent over the sink, rinsing out his mouth as he finished brushing his teeth. He stood upright to look in the mirror, only to his own mom standing behind him smiling.

She smirked and commented. "You look good."

Wood knew who it was. "You're not my mother."

The First as Nikki said. "I give you a compliment, and you don't say thank you? Did I raise you that way?"

Wood pointed out to her. "You didn't raise me at all."

'Nikki' shrugged. "Well, I was dead."

Principal Wood turned to face her, then walked straight through her. At the door to the bathroom, he stopped and turned to face her again. He then crossed his arms. "So, you're the First. Why are you here? Why now?"

'Nikki' shrugged. "'Cause you've been coming up in the world—taking the demons out. It makes a mother proud.

"Yeah?" Wood stepped forwards. "Well, think how pleased she'll be when I help take you out. Until it's time for that, I've got no use for you." He turned to walk away.

"Would you like to know who killed me?" Wood now stopped in his tracks. "I know you went looking for him."

Wood turned to face her. "You don't know anything."

'Nikki' asked. "Is that right? Well, you can check it out after I tell you. Check the timing. Re-read what the witnesses said, and the people in the subway station—"

Wood was now desperate. "Who is it?"

"You met him. You know him. You fought at his side."

Wood realized who it was.

"Spike."

'Nikki' smiled. "Now, what do you say?"

Wood looked down. "Thank you."

And done. Thank you to Stand with Ward and Queen, Brainstorm Sorcerer and Bl4ckHunter for some help and suggestions on this one.

So now Wood's downward spiral begins.

I hate the Black Widow film, and so what that film did, its not canon in here.

Hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter.
