Chapter 12- Closure
Kennedy was in the shower and putting some shampoo on her hands and rubbing it against her hair, when she noticed that the shower liquid was more oozy than usual and sticky, stuck to her hands.
"What the…" She tried to pull and ripped off some of her hair by accident before she slipped and fell down on the floor, ripping the curtain off.
"Is everything alright, Kennedy?" Buffy called out through the door, hearing the commotion.
"I'm good!" Kennedy said quickly.
"OK! Holler if you need anything!" Buffy said, walking away from the bathroom door.
Buffy, Willow, Tara, Xander, Spike, Anya, Peter, Dawn, Curt, Vi, Amanda, Felicia, Satsu, Renee, Natasha, Bucky, Fitz, Simmons, Bobbi, Hunter, Rona and other Potentials were eating breakfast in the kitchen as Kennedy approached and at the sight of her, none of them could keep a straight face as giggles and snickers sounded throughout the room, with part of Kennedy's hair missing from her and some parts of her clothes covered in sticky substance.
"What happened, kid?" Natasha asked, stifling her giggles.
"A little accident in the bathroom." Kennedy muttered and Buffy, Willow, Tara, Xander, Spike and Anya couldn't help themselves but snicker, with the rest of the Potentials and Avengers and SHIELD Agents stifling their giggles, while Peter and Dawn high-fived under the table.
Kennedy groaned and sat down as Felicia walked to the blender and put some vegetables in, and mixed them all before pouring it into a glass, and then she drank it.
Everyone in the room seemed a bit disgusted other than Natasha, Bucky, Bobbi, Hunter, Spike and Curt.
"How did you drink all that?" Renee was the first to ask.
"I take it almost every day, good for the health", Felicia said with a shrug.
"It looks weird but Felicia is right, it does help with the health", Curt told Renee and the rest.
"Huh? Have to try it then", Peter commented.
"No, don't try it", Dawn told him.
"All right", he groaned as the rest chuckled.
Later, Buffy was getting ready when she saw Satsu staring at her but turned away on noticing, and Buffy shook her head in amusement.
Satsu gained some confidence and walked to Buffy. "Hey."
"Hey, Satsu", Buffy greeted her. "How do you do?"
"You saw me?" Satsu asked, then realized what she'd just said.
"You mean looking at me? Yeah", Buffy shrugged. "Don't worry, I get it. But I'm committed."
"Yeah, I know, thanks for taking it so well", Satsu said as Buffy smiled and walked off to meet Spike in the hallway.
"You heard?" Buffy asked.
"Every damn word", Spike shrugged, then with a twinkle in his eye suggested. "Maybe we can ask her for a threesome?"
"You….." Buffy trailed off and started smacking his arm as Spike ran off with a chuckle.
Satsu looked a bit dejected and sat down as Willow and Tara sat down next to her on either side and the former said. "Sorry about that."
"You saw?" Satsu asked.
"Didn't mean to but did", Tara said with a sigh. "Well, at least you had the courage and made the jump and confessed, so now you can move on with no regrets."
"Yeah", Satsu said with a sigh. "Guess I can do it now, though honestly, don't know what I was thinking, I don't even know if she swings that way."
"I think she does", Willow whispered to Satsu.
"Really?" Satsu wondered.
"Oh the two of us have a gaydar", Tara quipped as the three chuckled. "I think she does swing that way, even if guys are her preference."
"I mean, have you seen her and Faith? The tension!" Willow said and Tara had to nod. "If Buffy wasn't with Spike and Faith wasn't with Matt, they'd definitely end up together."
"If she does swing that way, I guess I feel a little less embarrassed about it than before", Satsu confessed to the two of them. "And yeah, now I can move on from this stuff with no regrets. Thanks."
"No problem", Tara assured her.
Buffy and Peter walked into the school. Dawn, Amanda and even Felicia had been asked to stay back today due to how bad things had gotten.
There was a lot of commotion in the hallway. Buffy was saying to herself. "Not late. Not late 'til the bell rings."
"Don't worry, I think Wood likes you too much at job", Peter assured her as they looked up to see two boys fighting and went to break them up.
"Hey! Hey!" Buffy pulled one back and Peter pulled the other one back as well. "Break it up!"
A bell rang as Buffy told them. "Get to class."
They went separate ways as Buffy looked down the hall and asked Peter. "You should go too."
"See that", Peter pointed in the front.
"Uh-oh."
A girl was fading away in front of the lockers, Buffy and Peter went up to her.
Peter told her. "Hey, uhh, Tina, don't do this. Oh..."
It didn't work and so Buffy slapped the girl.
The shy girl was astonished now. "You knew I was there. Both of you."
"Yeah", Buffy nodded.
"We saw you", Peter assured her.
"You noticed me", the shy girl said.
Buffy assured her. "It's OK, I promise. It may seem bad now but it does get better too."
They walked off as Peter asked. "Experience with stuff like this?"
"Yeah, but last one became a psycho killer", Buffy told Peter as she remembered Marcie from year 1, oh the good old days.
A girl came out of the bathroom beside the lockers where Buffy and Peter were standing; the girl was sobbing.
"Wh-wh-what's wrong?"
The crying girl told her. "The mirror said I was fat. It said it." She walked off crying.
"Guess that's why we don't have magic mirrors to judge beauty standards in real life", Peter quipped.
Buffy watched the crying girl walk off, and her attention was pulled to another conversation where a stressed boy was venting to his friends.
The stressed out boy told the other ones. "I'm so—I can't take this semester anymore. It's just so much for me to handle. So, not only does Mr. Hildebrand move up the trig exam to today, but he also makes it cover three more chapters. And I've got an English paper due tomorrow. I feel like I'm gonna explode."
"Can't help there, I love school too much", Peter told Buffy who rolled her eyes and walked to them.
"Hey, uh, I can help. You just need to relax, you know?" She told the boy's friends. "You know, um, maybe one of you guys could give him a foot rub?"
The stressed out boy only ended up more stressed than before, and pretty confused too. "What are you talking about, crazy vagabond lady?"
Buffy was confused. "Crazy vagabond lady?"
Peter looked away with a blush as he remembered the first day of this semester.
Buffy and Peter together walked into the office area, only to see Principal Wood standing next to the front desk holding an ice pack to his head.
Buffy immediately told him. "Something bad is going on."
Wood asked the two of them. "Oh, is that right?"
Buffy then sat down. "Ooh, you're hurt. What happened?"
Wood told the two of them. "Someone threw a rock at me as I got out of my car. I didn't really get a good chance to see who."
"Things are becoming a mess out there, a girl almost turned invisible and we have magic mirrors on the walls", Peter said while rambling a little, and then added. "And some of them here think for whatever reason which I cannot tell because I was not part of it that Buffy is a crazy vagabond lady."
Buffy took a bandage from the first-aid kit on the desk and unwrapped it. "Yeah, things are going bad, and for who hit you, well, it could have been any of them. Students, teachers—something is going on today."
Wood had to agree. "Yes, well, um, that occurred to me as I ducked the other two rocks. Buffy, what the hell is this?"
Buffy put up the bandage on Wood's brow. "Everything."
Wood advised her. "Slowly, I may be concussed here."
Buffy shook her head. "There this thing that happens here, in this school, over the hell mouth. Where the way a thing feels—it kind of starts being that way...for real. I've seen all these things before...just not all at once."
"So, magic mirrors existed on walls before today too?" Peter asked out of curiosity.
"Oh no that is new", Buffy confirmed to him.
"Oh!"
Wood asked Buffy and Peter. "So, what, it's like hell's a bustin' out all over?"
Buffy nodded. "Exactly."
Peter nodded and said. "We should make a board and put all the players as well as all the events on it to make the whole mess more understandable than it currently is, you know?"
"For some reason, if someone else had suggested it, I'd hit them, but you make it make sense", Buffy told Peter as some chuckles went around.
Wood then asked a very important question. "So, what's the worst that can happen?"
Buffy shrugged without any exaggeration or amusement in her posture or voice. "War, pretty much."
Wood noted with narrowed eyes. "Oh, I see you're being amusing now with comical exaggeration."
Buffy told Wood. "Being in high school can feel like being at war."
"Not to me."
"We weren't talking about the brighter ones", Buffy said as Peter shut up and she turned to Wood. "Now it's true. The students feel like the teachers are out to get them. The Chess Club resents the French Club for taking the activities room, and, well, everybody hates the cheerleaders. If we don't do something about this, we're gonna have a riot on our hands. And a lot of other nasty stuff too."
Wood immediately inquired in concern. "Like what?"
A boy in the hallway screamed, increasingly louder, until he exploded, unseen to all three of them, leaving bloody residue splattered all over the outside of the office window.
Buffy sadly looked out of the window. "Really should have had that foot rub."
"Yeah, we have to do something about this stuff really fast before more people explode or disappear or end up meeting magic mirrors on the wall or anything of the sort or just think you are crazy vagabond lady!" Peter started rambling again and then finally stopped while panting a little and sighed too. "How much of that did either of you get?"
Buffy, Peter and Robin were looking at blueprints of the school that were spread out on the table in front of them. Buffy was seated at the table, and Peter and Robin were looking over her shoulder.
Wood inquired. "You've dealt with this before? I mean, you've seen stuff like this in a high school?"
Buffy shrugged. "Sure, you know, swim team monsters or killer prom dogs. Again, not all at once."
Peter said. "The worst I got was my girlfriend's dad being a criminal who sells Chitauri weaponry, pretty terrible, but yeah, that was the worst of it really."
Wood asked Buffy another important question. "So, what makes now so special?"
Buffy had a feeling what did, as they had discovered the seal in the basement before while looking for Curt Connors.
"My guess—it's that seal thing in the basement. It's like all the hellmouth's energy is trying to escape in that one little spot, and it's getting all—"
Wood finished the sentence for her. "Focusy."
Buffy gave Wood a look. "Careful. You're starting to speak like me now."
"Maybe I should try to speak like you", Peter suggested and got a look.
"Nope, I do the Buffy speak, you do the marvellous speak, okay? Okay."
The Seal of Danzalthar was exposed in the dirt floor. Buffy, Peter and Robin were walking around the edge of it.
Buffy was confused. "It was covered up for a while before."
Wood told Buffy. "It doesn't want to stay hidden anymore. It wants to turn these kids into monsters and victims and who knows what."
"Yeah, so I'm guessing covering it up is not an option anymore", Peter sighed. "This is too bad."
Buffy told the two of them. "It's more than that. Look, guys, I, um, I had a vision the other day."
Wood was confused. "You have visions?"
"I thought it was the job of that Cordy person from Team Angel", Peter confessed to her.
"I have them sometimes", Buffy said and then nodded.
Wood then inquired. "Oh. Well, how do you know that they're not just dreams?"
"Well, Slayer dreams are prophetic, I mean, you did have one of Thanos", Peter reminded Buffy who nodded while Wood was surprised. "So not visions but prophetic dreams, that's the word."
"This was a vision", Buffy said and told Wood. "You're running to catch the bus naked? That's a dream. Some cryptic hints of what could happen? That's a cryptic Slayer dream. Army of vicious vampire creatures? That's a vision. Also, I was awake."
"Okay, not a dream", Peter agreed and his eyes widened. "Oh boy, I had the bus nightmare before."
Wood was curious. "A bus to where?" Then he asked the correct question. "I mean, an army of how many?"
Buffy confessed to the two of them. "Hundreds. Maybe hundreds of hundreds. All I know is the last UberVamp I faced crawled out of that very hole." She backed up. "It makes me awfully nervous."
"Hundreds?" Peter asked and got a nod. "You sure we can deal with them?"
Buffy didn't respond as Robin walked onto the seal. "What are you doing?"
"Now, have you ever really studied it? You know, gotten close?" Wood asked as he knelt on the seal. "And where's Faith?"
"That was random", Peter said before telling him. "Went to LA as something came up there, she'll be back."
"Okay", Wood said with a nod. "And what do you know of this?"
Buffy told Wood what she did know. "Well, I know it's a goat with its tongue out. Uh, Willow did a search on the symbolic database, but it turns out everybody loves a good goat's tongue. Rock groups, covens and greek cookbooks. She said she couldn't narrow it down."
Wood looked at Buffy and Peter. "And you two trust her?"
"Yes, why wouldn't I trust her?" Buffy was confused.
Wood's tone became accusatory. "I don't know why any of you should trust each other. You've all been evil at some point, right?"
"No, I've not been evil, Tara has not been evil, Dawn has not been evil, even Buffy has not been evil, and Willow had absorbed the power of 3 Infinity Stones after Tara and various others she cared about became dust due to Thanos' actions so we can cut her a little slack there", Peter pointed out to Wood and Buffy nodded, agreeing with him.
Wood suddenly spoke up in a deep voice. "Evil is what evil does, and I know what you're doing."
He stood and looked at Buffy—his eyes were white. "You're with that vampire, screwing that vampire. You filthy whore!"
He charged at Buffy who just dodged Robin, and he ran into the wall; Buffy went to his side. "Robin, are you OK?"
Wood was panting now. "Whoa. What happened?"
"You called Buffy a whore and tried to attack her, outside of that, nothing much", Peter said with a shrug as he walked to their side.
Buffy told Wood. "I—I think it was controlling you."
Wood knew this was urgent now. "Buffy, Peter we've got to get rid of this seal. We've got to shut it down before it starts affecting everyone."
Buffy agreed and said. "I think I have a pretty good idea who we should talk to."
Wood asked. "Yeah, who's that?"
Buffy revealed. "The guy that fed it it's first drop of blood. Not his fault, but he did."
Peter knew who the guy was. "Professor Connors."
Curt was drinking the same mix Felicia had as she sat next to him. "So, how do you like it?"
"Better than I'd thought", Curt confessed as they shared a chuckle. "At least we have some good things in this mess."
"Yeah, didn't think things would get this bad when I came here", Felicia confessed sadly.
"Me neither", Curt agreed when Buffy, Peter and Wood came in.
"Professor, we need to talk to you", Peter said to Curt who got up.
"Sure, what is it?" Curt asked the three of them.
"The Seal of Dalthazar is driving people crazy, it was opened by your blood, not your fault we know, but we want you to come with us and take a look", Buffy told Curt, whose expression was firm.
"All right, I'll come and see what I can do to stop this craziness", Curt assured her.
"You want us to come with you?" Bucky asked as he and Natasha walked in.
"No just us, Spike, Willow and Tara are it", Buffy said and Bucky nodded.
"All right, we'll take care of things here in that case, good luck", Bucky wished all of them.
"Thanks", Peter said gratefully.
A while later Buffy, Peter, Willow, Tara, Spike, Curt and Wood were at the school hallway. The Scoobies all had flashlights to help see too.
Every foot of the wall had been spray-painted with phrases like 'DIE CHEERLEADERS', 'MARCHING BAND RULES' or 'SPIDER-MAN SHOULD GO AFTER THE PRINCIPAL'.
"You're not coming after me, are you?" Wood asked Peter.
"Uhhh, no!" Peter said and Wood nodded.
"Good."
"Looks like a riot here", Willow said.
Peter's spider sense tingled and he ducked as a bottle was thrown and smashed against the wall.
"And looks like its still going on", Spike told the rest.
"Let's just get to the basement, I can feel the power there", Tara warned grimly as all of them walked further into the school.
"Nice way to run a school", Spike quipped as he looked around. "There's got to be kids injured in here."
Wood agreed and asked Spike. "Yeah, easy picking for the likes of you, huh?"
Spike looked at Wood and reminded. "Hey, here to help, you know."
Wood nodded sarcastically. "Right."
The place was completely trashed. Kids were running around the school making noise. One ran by carrying a hockey stick.
Spike looked around and asked. "These kids went nuts, didn't they?"
Wood sarcastically said. "No kidding."
"They aren't themselves, that thing has a hold over them", Tara warned the rest.
Buffy said. "Shh, they'll hear you."
"Buffy, they're all the way down—"
Some kid hiding around a corner jumped out to hit Robin with a fire extinguisher but was kicked away by Peter in time.
"Thanks kid."
"No problem."
More kids arrived but Willow and Tara held hands and made an invisible forcefield, keeping them away.
"That's pretty handy", Curt said.
"Let's go down there quickly", Willow advised, hers and Tara's combined power keeping the kids at bay as all of them slowly reached the basement door.
Buffy ordered then. "Spike, Wood, stay here and hold our line of retreat."
"Sure thing", Spike said as he and Wood stood guard and the others all walked inside.
As they went into where the seal was, 5 Bringers turned to them, and it was students who had come here.
"Oh my God!" Curt said, guilt and horror welling up in them.
As they charged, Buffy did a cartwheel and knocked one out as Peter leapt and kicked another away, and Willow blasted two of them with her magic and Tara blasted the final one, taking them all out.
"All these students, this is happening to them because I was too weak", Curt said as he walked to the seal and then fell to his knees, and suddenly started going green. "No more."
"Professor, no!" Buffy tried to talk him down.
"Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream", Curt started singing.
"Willow, Tara, do something", Peter requested.
"Come on", Tara said as the two walked to either side of Curt and put their hands on his head, chanting together.
"Spirits of good, take us into the mind, what it withstood, don't let it be confined."
And then Curt's eyes widened as his transformation stopped and he got a memory, one he had repressed.
A young Curt Connors was in a car with his mother as the 'Mr. Sandman' song played on the radio.
"Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Give him two lips like roses and clover (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over"
Curt and his mom sang it together too, enjoying each other's company when a really fast truck rammed into their car, and Curt saw no more.
His mom had survived with some injuries, and so had he, but he had lost his arm in that accident, and he had repressed it in his mind, which is why the song was his trigger.
"Oh God!" Curt cried out. "My arm…..I became a monster to get it back…..These people, they paid the price because I tried to play God…."
As Curt's tears fell, one tear droplet from his face fell onto the seal below, and it immediately stopped glowing.
Curt's eyes widened as he said to the rest. "It stopped."
"We're sorry for what happened to you Professor, and maybe you tried to mess with stuff you didn't understand, but you had no idea this would happen", Tara assured Curt as she put a hand on his shoulder. "Some things are beyond us all."
"Maybe you could have stopped it or not, but that's out of the question, you stopped it now", Willow pointed out.
"It was tears", Buffy said. "Your tears could stop it."
"It worked", Peter sighed in relief as he, Willow and Tara helped Curt up.
"Thank you…." Curt said as he looked at the four of them gratefully. "Thank you."
Spike and Wood were keeping the students at bay outside when they stopped fighting back and just walked away.
"They got it done", Wood realized.
"Always have", Spike told him.
And like that, another mess was solved, but the threat was still out there.
So we're done here. Hope all liked the reason why the 'Mr. Sandman' song was Curt's trigger, same with Spike in canon.
This is so much more enjoyable with Bitchedy getting her just desserts and Bastardrew just not being around, isn't it? HA!
Thanks to Bl4ckHunter for the prank with Bitchedy at the start too, since it was in one of his one-shots titled 'Kennedy and the itsy, bitsy Spider'.
As for Buffy being bisexual and into Faith, just me satisfying my inner Fuffy shipper, since outside of Season 7 Spuffy, Fuffy is my favorite ship for Buffy, and Faith as well, since in canon I like Faith with, in this order from best to least good- Buffy, Willow (post BTVS Season 6) and Ensouled Spike.
Robin who?
But I'm really loving my own crossover Matt/Faith pairing I've made up, they suit each other really well, especially at this point.
Curt as well as Willow and Tara got a moment to shine in this chapter too, which was a good thing.
Anyway, hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter.
