Chapter 15- Final preparations

"So this Scythe, its meant for Slayers, huh?" Angel asked as Buffy held it up in her hand while Willow was researching on the computer with Tara, Peter and Dawn behind her.

"Yeah, like I said, I felt it calling to me", Buffy told him, exchanging a look with Faith. "It called both of us."

"Well, this might just be what is needed by you lot to win this fight", Wesley shrugged.

"Could be", Faith said before taking Connor from Angel. "Hey there little guy, how are you?"

"He is so, so cute", Buffy cooed at him too with Faith, stroking his face. "Hello baby."

"Yes, quite the sweet child here", Giles said with a smile.

Dawn during that time took a break and looked down at Connor too. "Yeah, he is such an adorable little baby."

"You want to hold him?" Angel offered her.

"Me…uhh…."

"Come on kiddo, shouldn't be too hard", Faith assured Dawn as she handed baby Connor to the teenager, who seemed nervous to hold him in her hands at first, but eventually, she eased a little.

Baby Connor opened his eyes to look up at her as she smiled at him. "Hey baby Connor, I'm Dawn."

Now a bit more comfortable, she rocked him in her arms as he slowly closed his eyes again.

"You're good with him", Fred complimented Dawn.

"Yeah sugarplum, he doesn't sleep that easy in anyone's arms", Lorne agreed with a nod. "You have a quality."

"Thanks Lorne", Dawn said with a smile.

"I want to hold the small human too", Anya said excitedly, acting more childish than Dawn. "Please!"

"Sure", Dawn handed him to Anya carefully.

"Remember, it's a little human, not a doll", Spike spoke up to her.

"I know that! I'm not dumb!" Anya told Spike as she rocked baby Connor too.

"We knew that", Xander assured her. "You are really smart with how much money you make."

"I know right? Can we buy some babies with money?" Anya wondered.

"Doesn't work that way, Scrooge", Lorne told her.

"Pity."

Natasha looked at everyone holding baby Connor with some longing in her eyes as Bucky spoke from next to her. "Maybe you should hold him too."

"It will just remind me of what I don't have", Natasha sighed. "I can't have."

"There are other ways, Nat", Bucky assured her. "Just because that happened to you doesn't make you a monster."

"Okay, fine", Natasha sighed as she walked to them, and asked Anya. "May I?"

"But I'm having so much fun!" Anya said.

"Please", Natasha requested, and on some level, Anya understood why, and handed baby Connor to her.

Natasha looked at him with a mixture of love and longing, and kissed his forehead. "You are going to be one hell of a guy one day."

The others looked at her, heartbroken, before she returned him to his dad. "Thanks."

"Maybe we should have one someday", Fitz suggested to Simmons.

"I think so too, we're ready, if it's a boy, Phil", Simmons told Fitz, and he didn't argue.

"If it's a girl", Fitz trailed off. "How about Alya?"

"Alya, unique and not strange, I like it", Simmons told Fitz as they smiled and kissed.

"Look at those two lovebirds", Hunter whispered to Bobbi as both chuckled.

"Well, I am sure we are thinking the same", Bobbi shrugged.

"Found anything?" Buffy asked Willow, Tara and Peter.

"No, still trying, but I think we're getting somewhere", Tara told Buffy.

"Yeah, it takes time but something does pop up", Peter added.

"Magic of the machine", Willow shrugged as they heard Giles give an audible cough.

Connor opened his eyes as Angel said. "Here, Connor-"

And then he took Vamp face, making Connor laugh. "That's right, you like that, don't you, a bootchee-wootchee..."

"Awwww", Buffy, Faith and Dawn muttered all together, while Willow and Tara watched with a smile.

Buffy, Giles, Xander and Dawn couldn't believe this was the same Angel they knew once, he had changed quite a lot from then.

But then someone decided to ruin it.

"What the hell's a dumb baby doing here?" Kennedy muttered to Rona, a bit louder than she wanted to.

And then everyone in the room turned to look at her.

"What did you say?" Matt asked in a growl, cracking his neck.

"He is not a dumb baby, he learnt to crawl before I did", Groo spoke up to her.

"Is your life so empty that you have to insult a baby?" Fred asked, shaking her head angrily.

"I think it is, considering how she behaves", Faith said with a shrug.

"She is like Cersei Lannister, just much less likeable", Lorne said, and it sounded like he meant it.

"You know, I've been tolerating your behavior till now, because you learnt to fight well", Buffy snarled, walking to Kennedy and getting in her face. "But now you crossed all lines of decency, so unless I say so- don't say a word!"

Angel handed Connor to Fred and walked to Kennedy alongside Buffy. "You say one word about my son again, I'll show you why they called me the Scourge of Europe."

"And I killed 2 Slayers, remember, I can kill a Potential easier", Spike added, glaring at Kennedy.

Kennedy paled at these threats, and knew Matt and Faith were pretty pissed too, along with these 3. Actually, all were pissed at her. But Matt scared her the most considering she had seen his Devil power.

So she just nodded mutely in fear and turned away.

"Maybe we should prank her again", Dawn suggested.

"What can top hanging upside down from a tree with no pants or webbing in shampoo?" Peter wondered as all let out laughter at that.

"You two are great kids", Angel said, patting their heads before sitting back down.

"The first one was because she was hitting on me, right?" Willow asked.

"Yeah, that's why", Dawn shrugged.

"Well, hope she learns some respect now", Tara simply said.

Kennedy did not say a word still, because she knew after her baby comment, no one would defend her.

"I knew you sucked, didn't know this much", Felicia said to Kennedy with a scoff.

"She said she would have trained us if Natasha and Bucky were not around, good thing she didn't", Amanda told her.

"Tell me about it, would be a nightmare", Renee added.

"Bigger than the First", Vi said.

"Can't say I disagree", Satsu shrugged.

"Well, at least she won't talk now", Bucky told Natasha.

"She didn't have much useful to say either way", Natasha shrugged.

"Hey, here's something with the "m" question mark. What the heck is that?" Willow said as all turned to her.

Giles and Wesley got behind her, Tara and Peter as Giles said. "It's not a question mark. It's the international phonetics alphabet symbol for glottal stop."

"And what would that be?" Tara asked.

Wesley explained. "Um... Ah. Hieroglyphs. Hieroglyphs stand for sets of consonants, as you know."

"Ah, right so not question mark", Peter realized.

"It has anything to do with the scythe?" Buffy asked.

"Might be it", Willow said.

Giles explained. """M" plus glottal stop is represented by a picture that's commonly thought to symbolize a sickle or a scythe. It's in thousands of carvings. In Egypt, throughout the ancient world."

Tara asked. "Carvings like you'd have on a pagan temple?"

"Go back. See what else we can find out about this temple", Wesley looked at the scythe. "The scythe is a symbol of death. Let's see where these pagans buried their dead."

A while later, Buffy and Faith had gone off to a pyramid Willow and Tara had found out about, while Peter and Angel were at the former's place with baby Connor, as Angel handed him to May. "Please, just take care of him for me."

"Sure", May said with a smile. "I don't know much about you, but that's a sweet little boy." She rocked Connor in her arms and turned to Peter. "I remember when you were this cute."

Peter's face turned to one of mock offense. "Were?"

"Anyway, people are getting out of here", May said, looking at Peter. "What should we do? We moved here because of the Accords, but then this place became our home…."

"Well, this place is becoming a mess now", Peter pointed out, and May had to concede. "But yeah, I have grown fond of it."

"It, or the friends and girlfriend you made here?" Angel both asked and pointed out as he sat down.

"Huh?" Peter realized Angel had a point, he had fallen in love with this place because he made such true friends here. He had his girlfriend Dawn whom he loved, and then there were his other friends- Buffy, Willow, Tara, Spike, Xander, Anya and Giles, he felt more supported amongst them as Spider-Man than he did back at New York, even by Ned.

"Guess its home because we have people we care about here", May realized. "So, with the people leaving, I guess you think I should go too."

"Yeah, a big fight is about to happen, I don't want you or anyone else caught up in it", Peter told her.

"Then I get to packing today", May sighed.

"Go to Hyperion Hotel at LA, its not too long from here", Angel told May. "Go with my son, keep him with you."

"I will", May assured as she shared a hug with Peter. "And you be careful my boy, okay? I love you."

"I love you too May", Peter said as they kissed each other on the cheek.

Angel during that time wondered how to tell the rest.

Later, back at the Summers House, Buffy and Faith returned, having gotten information about the scythe from a Guardian, who apparently watched even the Watchers.

"Bloody convenient one shows up right when we first get this weapon", Spike quipped, and none could disagree.

"Uh, guys?" Angel called out to Matt, Faith, Buffy, Spike, Willow, Tara, Xander, Peter, Dawn, Giles, Natasha and Bucky. "There's something I need to tell you."

"What is it?" Faith asked, her arms folded.

"Wanted to say this earlier, but didn't get a chance, I brought something", Angel said before holding out his amulet.

"Who's it for?" Spike asked, wondering if it was jewellery for Buffy to woo her back. Yes, he was jealous.

"I don't know everything about it", Angel explained what he did know. "It's very powerful and probably very dangerous. It has a purifying power, a cleansing power, possibly scrubbing bubbles. The translation is, uh—anyway, it bestows strength to the right person who wears it."

Buffy inquired. "And the right person is?"

"Someone ensouled, but stronger than human. A champion. As in me."

"Or me", Buffy realized.

Angel shook his head. "No. I don't know nearly enough about this to risk you wearing it. Besides, you got that real cool axe-thing going for you."

"Well, if its here someone has to use it", Faith pointed out. "A Slayer or an Ensouled Vampire can wear it."

"You said stronger than human, I'm stronger than human too", Bucky pointed out.

"So am I", Peter said. "Maybe one of us should wear it."

"I think it might have more to do with supernatural and magic stuff than science fiction", Tara pointed out to the two. "Because I feel great power from this amulet."

"So, who wears it then?" Willow asked.

"I will", Matt said as all eyes turned to him. "Think about it- I have the Devil's power in me, all supernatural and magical, and I doubt the amulet can do much to me if I try it on."

Faith started. "Come on, Matt, you've risked your life to save the world once, now you'd-"

"I'd do it again", Matt said firmly as he took the amulet from Angel, holding it up. "Besides, last time I didn't even know much about Adam, this time we are brothers in this."

He firmly said. "It won't do anything to me."

"I hope it doesn't", Faith sighed, kissing him as he kissed her back.

"So, that's all you wanted to say?" Dawn asked Angel.

"No, you guys didn't ask how I got it", Angel pointed out, and they realized that was true too.

"How did you get it?" Xander finally asked.

"After you four were gone", Angel turned to Matt, Faith, Willow and Tara. "We were approached by Wolfram and Hart."

"What? Why?" Faith asked him.

"They offered us their LA branch", Angel revealed, shocking all of them. "To do with it as we please."

"And, what did you do?" Buffy asked.

"We took it", Angel confessed. "I took it."

"Have you lost your mind?" Buffy asked him.

"Angel, these people are Wolfram and Hart, they make Landman and Zach look like Nelson, Murdock and Page in comparison", Matt tried to reason with him. "Why did you take it?"

"The amulet", Angel sighed. "And they said they'd make Cordy's recovery easier."

"If this amulet came from them how are you so sure it can work?" Bucky asked.

"Well, they don't want someone else taking over the world", Angel pointed out, and none could fault that logic.

"Are those your only reasons?" Natasha asked.

"No", Angel shook his head. "They have a scheduled apocalypse, the closer I am to them, the more chance I have of stopping it."

Faith sighed. "Angel, I care about you, so I ask as a friend, are you sure about this?"

"With everything I have", Angel said firmly. "Even outside of the apocalypse, the stuff they have, their resources, we can use it for good, its signed over to us."

"Doesn't mean they'll let you do what they want", Matt pointed out to Angel. "They will want you to satisfy their bad clients too, and you'll have to, to keep the business running, so that you can have what you need to do the good."

"Basically, you'll have to play both sides", Tara summed it up to Angel. "Can you do that?"

"I have no other play left, please guys, I need you to trust me", Angel begged.

Few minutes later, the ones Angel had told along with Bobbi and Hunter formed a circle to discuss it.

"Well, they've been offered to lead it", Buffy muttered. "And now Angel took it."

"Of course he would. Deep down, Angel's just as bad as Angelus." Giles said.

"So Deadboy finally got pushed over the edge, no surprise." Xander said before whipping his head, feeling a sting on his cheek as Willow slapped him and Buffy, Faith and Tara glared.

"Stop it, Xander!" Buffy snapped.

"You never liked Angel and you always found an excuse to hate him further, the same with Jenny." Willow added. "That's understandable to an extent but you've never taken it out on *just* Angel, have you?"

Giles and Xander gulped, remembering their judgmental attitudes towards other demons outside of Angel, Spike and Anya, when it was undeserved in most cases. And even with Angel and Spike, those two judged a lot.

"Have you ever considered that Angel may have had a reason to consider the offer? Things aren't as black and white as you two think." Natasha added.

"I think the least you owe them is a benefit of the doubt, considering how many times Angel has saved your lives and besides, the vampire you hate is Angelus, there is a difference." Bobbi added.

"I don't like it myself, but if Angel wants to do this, all I can do is wish him my best", Matt sighed. "He has been uncorrupted by himself so far. He was almost once, but he pulled through."

"Yeah, besides, he looks genuine, and I'll help him if he needs it", Faith shrugged. "Don't like it, but have to deal with it."

"And I have been undercover in Hydra too, I had to do stuff that makes me lie awake at night", Bobbi said sadly as Hunter held her hand. "This doesn't sound too different."

"Yeah, I have done some things for Fury too that seemed bad, but helped in the long run", Natasha added. "Sometimes, compromise is needed."

"I think it would be best if we give Angel and the rest a benefit of the doubt and stay their friends instead of acting like they are now evil Demons because of a hard choice", Tara pointed out.

"Yep, I'd like that", Peter shrugged.

"Besides, his own apartment, all that stuff, who wouldn't get seduced?" Spike quipped and was shot looks. "I was joking."

Matt walked to Angel with Buffy and Faith, and told him. "Still not perfectly okay with it, but we get why you did it."

"Yeah, you want to help", Faith agreed. "You want to help everyone like you helped me."

"So, I'm still not convinced, but I trust you all know what you're doing", Buffy finished for them all.

"Thank you", Angel looked at the three. "It means a lot."

"Besides, if you cross a line, me and Matt will kick your ass", Faith added as some chuckles went around.

During that time, Robin sat down next to Kennedy and told her. "You know? You were not wrong to question the baby's presence. I mean, it's a baby of two Vampires, who made Spike! What are they thinking?"

Unfortunately for him, he couldn't keep his voice as low as he wanted either, and was heard.

"How dare you?" Faith snarled, clutching her fists, about to hit him.

"Wait", Angel held her back and walked to Wood himself, picking him up by the collar. "Say it to my face."

Wood instead punched Angel, and Angel smirked. "I was so hoping you did that."

With that, he threw Wood to the other side, making him groan in pain, and as he got up, he got a kick that sent him back.

He then flipped and tried to kick but Angel grabbed his foot and slammed him to the ground, making him groan in pain again.

As he got up, Angel kneed his gut twice and then backhanded his face, sending him down.

"Don't say a word about the little nipper, he's an innocent little kid", Lorne told Wood.

"Really, at this point I have lost all respect for him", Curt said to Felicia, Dawn and Peter.

"Yeah, nothing cool about him now", Felicia agreed with a nod.

"After the fight's over, we'll be done with him", Buffy spoke, and none disagreed. "Anyways, after the talk with the Guardian, I was thinking-"

There was a knock on the door as Willow asked. "Who is it?"

Matt heard the heartbeats and smirked. "Some friends."

Buffy opened the door and in walked Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson and Blade.

"Hey guys", Steve greeted Bucky and Natasha with a wave, sharing a hug with them both, and then Sam too.

Bucky started. "So you're here becau-"

"The two of us and Rhodey got the Flag Smashers, he then went to help Tony out with Pepper, we decided to come help", Sam shrugged.

"So this is all of it?" Blade asked before seeing the unconscious Robin. "What's up with him?"

"Insulted Angel's kid", Gunn spoke up.

"Right, what a motherfucker!" Blade shrugged, having no idea it was accurate, in a way.

"So", Steve said, looking at them all. "What have you got for us?"

And with this we get our final reinforcements in the form of Steve, Blade and Sam.

I see Kennedy's and Robin's actions in this chapter as in-character, the former is unpleasant, the latter, after being beaten by Spike and Matt, is just bitter. And now he gets his third beatdown. First Spike, then Matt and now Angel, HA!

Anyway, hope the reactions to Team Angel running W&H were accurate.
