Niagara Falls, huh? Well, I've only been as close as New York. Here's a fact – the first person to survive going over the falls in a barrel was Annie Edson Taylor, who was 63 at the time (1901). She's now been buried at Oakwood Cemetery near the falls with other people who performed the same stunt.

I whispered to Bridgette the information I'd heard from Owen that Noah thought Alejandro was into Heather, and that I'd started to notice that Heather was showing signs of interest. To my surprise, she smiled and said "I was starting to think the same, to be honest. Gwen told me she thinks Heather's crush on Alejandro is obvious, at least if you know Heather as well as she does." (Gwen was in the confessional at that moment, which is why she wasn't with us).
Once Gwen returned, we all whispered about what we knew Sierra would have called "Aleheather" if she was still around, giggling and imagining what their relationship would be like. The girls thought the idea of Heather being in love was just hysterical and I had to agree.
"Don't you think they'd end up arguing, like, all the time?" I suggested. "They'd have to make up all the time if they were staying together. I guess makeup love is the best love."
The others giggled, and Gwen said "It's a good thing I don't have that kind of love. I don't argue with Trent all that much, and even when we do, it's more uninspiring than anything. For me, it's always much better when we're both in a good mood, with pretty much everything. I don't know, maybe it's different for other people."
"No, for me it's the same." Bridgette reassured her. "Geoff's always at his best when he's feeling good. I think he gets energy and stamina from his mood and I can always tell when he's down, even though he often tries to put a good face on it."
I was starting to feel a little left out, when Bridgette added "But it's not like that for Heather. She gets energy when she's really pissed off, you can tell. So yeah, probably they'd get the best from arguing and making up."
"Do you think Alejandro's good at any of it?" Gwen whispered with a sly grin, and the three of us all chuckled.
Bridgette suddenly blushed and looked at the floor. "He's good at one thing." she mumbled.
Gwen and I exchanged glances, and then we remembered. Of course Bridgette would feel awkward about that kiss in the Yukon. The accidental one. I'd seen a clip – Alejandro had been helping Bridgette across the ice, and when she was scared about jumping a big gap, he encouraged her, and caught her on the jump. But she'd knocked him over, and a kiss had happened.
"Well, he's got to have a weakness." I said with a giggle. "I haven't seen one yet, so maybe it'll be one that only Heather gets to experience.'
I must have spoken louder than I thought, because seconds later, Heather was standing over us, scowling. "What are you all saying about me?" she demanded.
I looked at my two friends, before looking back at Heather, and I made a point to stand up and lock eyes with her, hoping it would make me seem more honest. "We only mentioned you once." I said firmly. "It's none of your business what we were talking about, but if you have to know, we were talking about rounding bases. Not that you've even got to the first one."
That made Heather blush, and then she walked to the other side of the compartment. The other girls were laughing. "That was brilliant, Toni." Gwen snickered. "I mean, people on the fansites have been debating whether she's had boyfriends before, or if she thinks she's too good for everyone, but I get the feeling she's never kissed anyone."
"I feel a bit sorry for her, to be honest," Bridgette said, "Because who would want to be reminded they'd never even reached that milestone? But she kind of deserves it, I'll admit that."
We were basically sitting chatting all day. It was nighttime when Chris woke me and shoved me into a paddleboat that was going to be dropped into the next location, along with all the contestants.
"Can you at least tell me where we're going?" I mumbled.
"Okay." Chris sighed. "We're dropping you kids at Niagara Falls."
I was suddenly wide awake. "What? You're dropping paddleboats down a waterfall? Are you crazy?"
"That's where you come in." Chris explained. "There's two of these, but they do have a power button. Press it on your one, it'll activate both of them and you'll all be on dry land in seconds. I'm not telling the contestants, though. And you're not to tell them either."
I nodded tiredly, and it was just as Chris said. I waited until everyone knew where we were, and then we were on our way, away from the waterfall.
"So," Chris said, "Niagara Falls is pretty awesome, huh?"
"It almost killed us!' Heather snapped.
"Like I said, awesome."
"Um, Chrissy," I said brightly, "Shouldn't we be getting on with the challenge instead of discussing the reasons why you would lose the show if it lost a contestant?"
So we all had to traipse to the casino – well, not the major gambling floor, just the theatre, since we weren't old enough. We were on the American side, and you had to be a certain age – it was New York, so some gambling was allowed at 18, but all the slot machines we wanted were 21+ (anyway, we were too young for it – the eldest cast members were seventeen, and I was the youngest, even among the sixteen-year-olds).
First of all, Chris turned to me. "Toni," he said, "You'll be competing today."
I frowned. "On what team?"
"You're on your own." Chris grinned, addressing the others. "Because as of right now, there are no more teams!"
Team Amazon looked pleased, while Alejandro shook hands with his former teammates. "It's been an honour," he said. "I trust our brotherhood can continue in some manner?"
The reason Chris wanted me was because we needed an equal amount of guys and girls, and needed me to make up the number of girls. "Since we're in the honeymoon capital of the world," he said, "I thought it would be fun to drop some arranged marriages on you!" Basically, the guys were all stuck in a fruit machine, and we had to pull the lever and get a "husband" to pair up with for the challenge.
"What if I decided to be a lesbian, Chrissy?" I asked, semi-seriously. "Then I wouldn't ever get married to a guy, and this wouldn't work out."
Chris scowled at me. "We're cutting that question out of the final footage, Toni. Referring straight out to same-sex relationships is prohibited on the studio that pays for us to do this. I'm not saying you're wrong, but this is a challenge, so for heaven's sake just shut up and do your job so we don't have any arguments with the studio."
Even though my job was to host, not compete, I didn't say anything more and pulled for my husband. The fruit machine showed the same faces thrice, and seconds later, Cody came flying out of the opening at my feet.
I smiled and helped him up. "Looks like we're teammates." I said, smiling at him. Then I lowered my voice to jokingly add "I know you wanted Gwen, but you'll have to settle for me."
As it was, Gwen got Duncan. But she didn't blush and they seemed happy enough, so that was fine. Heather got Alejandro. She didn't blush, either, but I resolved to watch her as much as I could. That left Bridgette with Owen, but she didn't seem to mind either way.
I couldn't watch Heather through the first challenge, though. That is, I was blindfolded. All the girls were, and the men were giving megaphones to help us navigate to our "wedding" dresses. We could only move on if we had the dress.
Well, Cody wasn't a terrible partner. He sort of mumbled into the megaphone, but at least he gave directions that were easy to follow. I could hear Owen telling Bridgette to "go that way", which didn't make any sense. At least Cody said "left" and "right", and eventually, I knocked against a mannequin. I mean, yeah, I wasn't first, because Aleheather was good together and despite a couple of minor spats, won, and Duncan and Gwen finished before me, too, but Bridgette ended up reaching her dress last, even though she got there in the end with Owen's not-so-good guidance.
Everyone had a different style of dress. Mine was short and strapless, with a full skirt. Heather's was slim-fitting and complemented her figure perfectly. Gwen wasn't so lucky, with a poufy one that looked like a white version of Princess Courtney's dress from last season. Bridgette's wasn't anything special, either, but she looked pretty in it, although sort of off. I guess sort of like a supermodel in rags – Bridgette was always pretty, but in the most casual of ways. It was weird to see her wearing a formal dress.
The idea was that the men had to carry their bride on a tightrope across Niagara Falls, and clear "Customs", aka Chef asking some questions on the Canadian side of the falls. Heather and Alejandro got a headstart because of winning the first round.
"Come along, better half," Alejandro said, picking up Heather bridal style, "Let us take advantage of our headstart." And I caught the dreamy smile on Heather's face.
As a matter of fact, they didn't win. They got more than halfway without incident, but then Alejandro suddenly started losing his balance and they fell off the tightrope. We didn't win, either. Cody looked like he was about to be sick, and I ended up carrying him across. Owen went agonizingly slowly, but Duncan, carrying Gwen over his shoulder, forged ahead and ended up on the platform across and winning First Class.
I checked the confessionals before eliminations that evening. Alejandro claimed to have fallen off the tightrope on purpose to appear less of a threat. He claimed he didn't need immunity, because he had enough allies. "Besides, I think I could talk Toni into checking out the votes if I thought I was in danger. It's so easy to get her favour. So I lay in wait like a crocodino. A devilishly handsome crocodino."
I deliberated over whether to confront Alejandro about this or not. He knew I didn't approve of all of his actions blindly. But this was exactly the kind of thing Duncan said he might do – sweet-talk favours out of the co-host who happened to be another teenager. And he thought it was easy to get around me? Well, yeah, I was nice to people, but that didn't mean I would do just anything for anyone, hot or not.
I didn't go to the elimination, but I found out from Gwen and Duncan, who came up to First Class for their wedding reception, that Owen had gone home.
It was a fun night, actually. We had an all-American meal, with hot dogs slathered in tomato sauce and mustard, miniature apple pies and root beer floats. Then we just sat around, chatting and goofing off.
Well, Owen had to go sometime. What better place than where he went in canon? Also, I looked up American-style food, so you're welcome (I was wondering where the phrase "as American as apple pie" came from). Also, let's assume their breakfast the next day were bagels with cream cheese and lox. You had to get the New York tradition in somewhere!
