Chapter 4- Victims of inconsistency Part 2
"Now we call Buffy Summers to the stand", Matt said as Buffy arrived on the stand, taking her place. "So, what would you like to tell us about Mr. Whedon?"
"My complaints aren't as bad as other people, it's mainly just he made my character a hypocrite at times regarding the whole deal with killing humans", Buffy told Matt and the rest. "Basically, I was willing to kill Faith over Angel, and also killed some Byzantine Knights to protect my sister, but when the moment came to kill Ben and save everyone from Glory, I suddenly took the moral high road and let him live, which is just stupid, and the script makes it look like a heroic moment. Then Giles has to step in and do the deed, and later in Season 6, when Willow wants to kill Warren over Tara, I play the moral high card there too, which is just stupid, though that one might be more Miss Noxon than Mr. Whedon, but the groundwork was still laid out by Mr. Whedon."
Matt nodded and asked. "Anything else?"
"I think he just made my character a mouthpiece for his stupid and hypocritical views. He once said he considers Frank Castle a coward and would kill him if he became head of Marvel", Buffy said with a scoff. "But he has written comics for Wolverine too, who has a really popular "no kill" rule, am I right?"
Joss was taken aback by his greatest creation's anger and sarcasm at him as Matt said. "No more questions, All-father."
"What do you have to say in your defense?" Odin snarled at Whedon, disgusted by his views.
"Killing is wrong and cowardly!" Whedon snapped and everyone booed him, even Batman, since this version, while not a killer anymore, wasn't as self-righteous about it as the comics version. Then Odin slammed Mjolnir and all went silent.
"You may take your seat, Miss Summers", Odin told her as Buffy walked back to where she was sitting next to Spike. "You may call your next witness now."
"Now we call Xander Harris to the stand", Matt said as Xander took his place on the stand. "So Mr. Harris, what would you like to tell us about your time under Mr. Whedon?"
"Well, my character was fine and all that, but he was sometimes written inconsistently, or made to act like a creep", Xander confessed to them all. "Like, basically in Season 1, I have this crush on Buffy, and I get all mad and possessive when she rejects me, so it led to me being not that liked, and in Season 2 I get mad at her for defending me from Larry, and on her birthday make a birthday spanking joke. Now thing is, it would be fine if I was like that only for the start, but even after my character growth and development, I continue to show that behavior at times, which is just stupid."
Matt nodded in agreement as Xander continued. "Then in Season 3 there was that stupid love square with me, Willow, Cordy and Oz, and both me AND Will were written OOC to make it happen, yet I was still hated more because of what Mr. Whedon did with me before. Then I have another really terrible moment in Season 5 where I lay the blame on Buffy's breakup with Riley entirely on her, even though the jerk cheated on her with some Vamp whores, and Riley told me a few episodes ago that Buffy didn't love him, so why the hell would I wait until the breakup before talking to Buffy about it? And come on! I didn't even sound like myself. I was someone's mouthpiece in that scene to make Buffy look like a horrible person when it was Riley. Seriously, even people who consider me their favorite character wanted to pull me out of the screen and deck me at that point."
Matt and the rest processed the info as Xander continued. "Then in Season 6, after my breakup with Anya, I become a horrible jerk for a while and even get mad when she sleeps with Spike, when I had broken her heart, so at that point, I had no right to act like that. In Season 7, my biggest complaint was that in one episode, I had an erotic dream about 2 TEENAGE Potentials. Now if it was teenage me from the first 3 Seasons, I could understand, but even at this point? If you look past the crap with me, I am a good character, but that crap does tend to paint me in a not-so flattering light. And come on! My bigotry regarding Demons should have been dealt with in the show instead of in the follow-up comics which not everyone read. Some people even consider me Mr. Whedon's self-insert into the show. That's all I'd like to say."
"No more questions All-father", Matt said.
"What do you have to say in your defense?" Odin sneered at Whedon.
"Xander is always right like me!" Joss snapped as everyone howled and booed at this point and Odin slammed Mjolnir. "Silence!"
"You may sit down, Mr. Harris", Odin said as Xander walked back and sat down. "Call the next witness."
"Now we call Rupert Giles to the stand", Matt said as Giles walked to the stand, taking his place. "What can you share about your experiences under Mr. Whedon?"
"For the first 5 Seasons, I had little to complain about, I was even many people's favorite character in the franchise", Giles said to them all. "The suave, calm, gentlemanly, learned Englishman who is Buffy's mentor, and also a romantic at heart, with a dark side, and shameful past. What not to like about me? But then the final 2 Seasons of Buffy came. My actor wanted his role reduced so he could spend time with his family in England, but Mr. Whedon, in his pettiness, gave me a horrible exit where I just left and abandoned everyone. Now me leaving Buffy made sense, she was over-reliant on me by that point, but the rest? Especially Willow, she was going through magic addiction, and I was the victim of Tabula Rasa myself, yet I just left even though I have experience with magic addiction myself, and it made me come off as really horrible."
"Anything else?" Matt asked.
"Yes, in Season 7 as well, I was turned pretty terrible and inconsistent. I left Buffy so she could grow on her own, but on coming back, I go behind her back to have Spike murdered, instead of having him forcefully face his Demons, since a man like me would have the resources for that", Giles said to everyone. "But Mr. Whedon truly crossed the line in Angel Season 5. Once more, my actor was unavailable, so in his pettiness, Mr. Whedon turned me into a really horrible person. When Illyria takes over Fred, I am called to help save her, but since they work for Wolfram and Hart, I just cut the call. Now even if Fred couldn't be saved, if I tried to help, at least I wouldn't look like a horrible person, and I even ignored the threat of an Old One, which by default, the rest of the Scoobies did too. Even Seasons 6 and 7 version of me wouldn't be that bad, and the rest definitely would not be. Also, since I was shown as this man willing to make the hard calls, me suddenly having a black and white morality makes zero sense, and regardless of my dislike for Angel and Spike, I would still help at that point."
Matt nodded, getting it all and said. "No more questions, All-father."
"Anything you have to say?" Odin said with a glare at Whedon.
"His actor shouldn't have left!" Whedon defended himself as there were roars of rage and booing again but Odin slammed Mjolnir. "Silence!"
He turned to Giles. "You may take your seat, Rupert Giles."
Giles walked back as Matt said. "Now we call Steppenwolf to the stand."
Everyone watched with wide eyes as Steppenwolf now marched to the stand, taking his place. He sure did radiate an aura of terror, though it was nothing compared to Darkseid.
But in the presence of Odin, that was tempered.
"So, Mighty Steppenwolf, what are your complaints?" Matt asked the New God and former Herald of the evil Darkseid, his nephew.
"Well, my design made me look like a bland PS2 villain, though I can let that slide considering I looked even worse in Snyder's version", Steppenwolf said to the rest. "But in Joss' version, I was a pathetic villain with very cheesy lines, it just didn't sound like what a powerful villain like me would say, especially since it is not the 60s anymore. I was just a flat villain in general while in Snyder's version, while I wasn't made to be the most compelling villain ever, at least I was given good motivations that made sense for me as a character, with how I betrayed Darkseid once and now am trying to rectify that error. Also, in Joss' version, I became scared when Superman arrived and got attacked by my own Parademons due to how scared I was, while in Snyder's version, I was fighting Superman even when losing, and I was given a brutal death scene that a villain like me deserved. Now because of Whedon, Darkseid may not come on the big screen soon, sadly."
All nodded in agreement as Matt said. "No more questions."
"What do you have to say in your defense?" Odin asked Whedon.
"Not every villain can be Loki!" Joss snapped as all groaned.
"Sit down, Steppenwolf", Odin ordered as Steppenwolf took his seat. "You may call your next witness."
Next 2 chapters will be the worst victims of Joss Whedon- Natasha, Diana, Vic, Barry, Connor, Tara and Cordelia.
Hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter. Stay safe from the coronavirus ya all!
