Summary: It's Dick's first Father's Day after the accident. Dick is 9 here.

Father's Day. A day that most people would normally spend with their dads, enjoying life together. But not Dick Grayson. His father wasn't exactly around anymore. Not his biological one, anyway. Bruce had done his best to be there for him, and he was great. Dick couldn't ask for a better dad! But at the same time, he missed his real dad, and as much as Bruce tried, he would never really be blood to Dick.

There Dick sat, on his bed, staring at the ceiling as he had a conflict with himself. Bruce has always been there for you! He's amazing. He cares, he lets you fight crime, he protects and trains you, you won't find a better dad anywhere else! Even Alfred is there for you! You got a great new dad and a kickass grandpa!

Yeah, but what about John Grayson? My REAL dad? He's not around anymore. As awesome as Bruce and Al are, neither of them will ever be like dad.

He's gone! As much as it sucks, you gotta move on! Bruce has been there for you for like 6 months! And don't forget Alfred! He cooks for you, does your laundry, talks with you, heck, he's more of a dad than Bruce sometimes!

...then why do I still feel so empty?

Dick sighed before getting up. He was being ridiculous and he knew it. Bruce had taken care of him without so much as a thanks in return, and Dick was being ungrateful. He walked down to the kitchen to find Alfred already there.

"Hello Master Dick. Would you care to eat anything?"

"Nah I'm not hungry. Thanks though." Dick started to leave before he stopped himself. C'mon Grayson. He turned around and addressed the old butler. "Oh, Alfred."

"Yes, Master Dick?"

"Happy Father's Day." Alfred smiled at the boy and bowed his head.

"Thank you, Master Dick. I must say, it has been quite enjoyable having you around. I look to you as my own son, but I know Master Bruce would like for you to greet him as well." Dick smiled at that.

"Yeah, his office is my next stop. Just wanted to tell you."

"Well, thank you, young Master. I appreciate it." Dick turned to leave as Alfred kept his smile. He had tried very hard to be there for Dick just as he had Bruce, and while he could not quite relate to the pain on the same level as Bruce, he tried to make up for it by giving the boy a kind soul to turn to. It was very gratifying for him to know Dick appreciated it.

As Dick entered the office, he saw Bruce working on Wayne Tech related business. Bruce noticed he had entered and greeted him, not breaking his gaze at the computer.

"Hey. What's up?"

"I uh, I just wanted to say happy Father's Day. Sorry I didn't say it sooner." Bruce stopped working and looked at him, a hint of shock in his eyes. He had looked to Dick as his son, but he never thought Dick would ever see him as his dad. He was always afraid that their relationship was not at that level. Knowing that Dick saw him as a father, that brought a smile to his face and a hint of joy in his eyes. Joy that had not been seen since that fateful encounter with Joe Chill. Dick was doing the impossible.

He was bringing that happy boy from before Crime Alley back to life.

Dick approached Bruce and hugged him. Bruce happily returned the embrace. "Happy Father's Day, dad."

"Thanks...son." Dick smiled brightly as he broke away.

"Alright, old man. Let's do some training. Just cuz it's your day doesn't mean I won't kick your ass! I'll go easy on ya, give you a chance."

Bruce laughed at that. "Well, thank you for your mercy. I'll meet you in the cave in 5." Dick smiled as he walked out. Alright, yeah. Dad might be gone, but I have Bruce and Al. I have a new family. And something tells me this one'll be around for the long haul.

Okay, I'm trying to get every chapter to 2000 words or more, but it's not always possible to do so without rambling on. This one was gonna be a shorter one just cuz there was less to write and it was kinda a straightforward chapter. Next chapter is back to YJ S1, which I know is probably not as fun to read (trust me, it's not as fun to write), but like I've said before, I thought it was the best way to reach Zatanna, who will be introduced in ep 15 and appear in p much every single chapter after ep 19. Next chapter is ep 12, which is where it's Dick and Arty against the Reds. Review and leave suggestions if you have any.
