Summary: Takes place where the last chapter left off. Right after YJ S1 Ep 19.

As Dick approached Zatanna's room, he could already hear the faint sound of her crying on her bed. Damn. Well, I expected as much. Only got one shot at this...He gently knocked on her door, knowing it was locked. The crying started to cease as he heard her footsteps approach the door. She opened it and Dick immediately felt horrible upon seeing her. Her normally perfect hair was in shambles, her puffy red eyes were outlined with black from all the crying, and there were very prominent tear streaks going down her cheeks.

"Uh, c-can I come in?" Zatanna nodded and slowly moved to let him into her room. Dick walked over to her bed, which was a mess, and sat down as she followed him.

"Wh-what are you doing here?" Her voice was weak and crackly, which Dick expected.

"I-I just thought you could use some...company, I guess."

"Thanks, but I'm not r-really in the mood for-"

"I don't want you to be in here alone right now." Zatanna looked at him questioningly.

"W-why? N-nobody else ever checked on me."

"I, uh, I asked them not to. They-they don't know what you're going through right now. They couldn't help you feel any better even if they tried."

"B-but you could?" Dick sighed.

"Uh...yeah. Something like that."

"How?"

"Let's just say I know what you're feeling." Zatanna looked at Dick for a moment before dropping her head.

"I doubt anyone knows how I'm feeling right now. My dad is gone, and it's all m-my fault." Tears threatened to spill out of her eyes again, and so Dick instinctively wrapped an arm around her shoulder. She buried her face in his chest as she cried, and Dick gently ran his hand through her hair, trying to get her to calm down. Okay. Here goes...

"I'm really not supposed to tell you this, but..." Dick didn't know what else to say and so he gently pushed Zatanna away a bit and took off his glasses. Her eyes went wide as she saw his blue eyes and heard him speak. "Uh, m-my name's Dick Grayson. When I was eight, I, uh, I saw my parents die too." Zatanna was at a loss for words as she looked into his eyes. A million thoughts ran through her head, and she had no clue where to begin with them. Robin was really Dick Grayson? The Boy Wonder, heroic partner of the Batman, was the rich boy that the media called spoiled and selfish on TV? Dick could tell she was lost for words, and so he continued. "I, uh, I wasn't supposed to tell you, but I guess I just thought maybe if you knew that I went through the same thing as you then-" He was cut off by Zatanna clinging to him for life. He returned the hug, ignoring the heat rising to his face. This was not the time nor place for his hormonal thoughts to roam free, and so he pushed aside all awkwardness he had around Zatanna for the time being and just sat with her as she cried her heart out.

Once Zatanna calmed down, she slowly pulled away, turning red as she noticed what had transpired between the two. "S-sorry. I-I shouldn't h-have broken down l-like that."

"I-it's alright. Trust me. I get it." A comfortable silence ensued as Zatanna leaned on Dick's shoulder, trying to get her breathing to come back to normal.

"D-does the pain ever go away?" Dick thought back to when he asked a similar question to Bruce on his first night in the Manor.

"I wish I could say yes. But no, it never fully goes away. It does get better, though. It just takes friends and family to help you through it."

"My dad was my only family. M-my mom died in a car crash back when I was first born." Dick already knew this. Bruce had told him many details about Zatara when recounting his experience training with him, and he was well aware of the pain Zatanna had already suffered.

"Yeah...but this team is kinda a family now, right? I mean, we won't be able to replace your dad, but we're all still here for you. We all still care about you." Zatanna hugged Dick tightly, letting the final few tears fall as her head was in the crook of his neck. He rubbed her back soothingly, and she let a faint smile form on her face as she found comfort in his arms.

They eventually pulled away, both slightly red in the face, and Dick spoke to her. "If, uh, if you ever need help with this or you ever wanna just vent at somebody, I'll be there. Anytime, anywhere. Promise. " Zatanna smiled and nodded as he awkwardly got up to leave. "I'll, uh, I'll l-leave you to it. See you tomorrow?"

"Yeah. I'll be okay. Thank you...Dick." Dick smiled as she used his real name and walked out, the door closing automatically behind him. Zatanna allowed herself to smile and feel better about her situation as she cleaned herself up. She was still extremely hurt over what had happened, but now she knew she had someone who truly knew what she was going through and could really help her. Someone who both trusted her with his deepest secrets and was more than willing to be there for her. She let herself sleep that night, finding comfort as she let herself think of Robin...no, Dick.

I thought Dick revealing his ID here made the most sense, that way he could best help Zatanna the same way Bruce helped him. On a side note, some chapter suggestions are ideas that would take place after these two start to date, so I will hold off on those until after I finish Auld Acquaintance and they actually get together, since if I jumped forward and instantly wrote these chapters right now, it would be sorta weird. But suggestions that I can't currently write are still being added to the list, so just hold on a bit and I'll add them. Not everything has to be in chronological order, but I wanna at least keep it in a timeframe that makes sense (saving Nightwing chapters for after Dick becomes Nightwing instead of writing them right now, saving Chalant couple-related chapters for after they get together, etc.). For example, if I wanna write a Tim Drake related chapter, I will hold off until after he is introduced, just for the sake of being able to properly build up to that point. The only exception to this rule is if someone asks for a chapter that takes place sometime that we have already covered. For example, I'm willing to write young Dick chapters and any chapter before Zatanna joins since we have already covered those time periods. I just don't wanna jump ahead right away. But I will get to all suggestions eventually. It's just a matter of getting there naturally instead of jumping to it prematurely. Next chapter will be YJ S1 Ep 20, which is shorter since Wally is the main star of that ep and the rest of the group doesn't have much screen time. After that is a chalant fluff chapter.
