Summary: YJ S1 Ep 20. Zatara became Dr. Fate about a week ago. This one might be smaller because the main focus is Wally and the others don't get much attention, sorry about that.

Dick was feeling great. Not only was it his best friend's birthday today, but in the past week, he had actually gotten Zatanna to both smile and get out of her room more. They had grown extremely close, and he had to say, he was loving every second they spent together. Not just because he was head over heels for this girl, but because she had become almost as close to him as Bruce was, which was incredible to say the least. He still hated the fact that she was going through the same baggage he had to way back when, but she was handling it much better than he did, and a good part of that was thanks to the hours they spent just hanging out or talking with each other. He had even come up with a nickname for her that she actually let him use, although Wally and Artemis did tease them to no end about it. Bruce deduced that he told Zatanna her identity upon seeing how happy she was less than a week after the...incident. He knew that the only way Dick could have accomplished that was to let her into his private life. Surprisingly, he was okay with it. Well, he DID always have a soft spot for orphans...Bruce and Zatanna had a talk a few days after Bruce found out, and he made her promise to never tell anyone without permission, which she wasn't going to anyways. Dick was the closest person in her life at this moment, and she was loving their time together just as much if not more than he was. Robin was a great friend to her, he was always there when she needed help, and it didn't hurt to add that he was Richard freaking Grayson. The two people she had the biggest crushes on in the world for most of her life were actually one and the same, and she couldn't be more excited about it! Though it did make things much more awkward between the two of them from time to time...

Dick Zeta'd into the cave early in the morning to help the others set up Wally's surprise party. Surprise is pushing it. Kid Blabbermouth has been talking about this for literally days. No way he's gonna be surprised. Dick had Alfred bake both cakes, no surprise there, and Megan was more than happy to be able to set up a party for him. Even Artemis was feeling surprisingly upbeat today, which Dick suspected had something to do with the resident speedster's special day. Definitely gonna have to bug her about this later...

Wally Zeta'd into the cave about half an hour later, only to find a pitch black room. "Where is everyone? Be a shame if I missed my own-"

"SURPRISE!" Everyone jumped out from their hiding spots and Wally grinned.

"Whaaaaat? Aw, guys, ya shouldn't have!"

"Right. Not like you've been hinting for days or anything."

The party went on smoothly, and Dick noticed Zatanna was watching Wally and Barry talk. Damn. Still kinda fresh wound there. He walked up to her and offered a slice of cake.

"So, some party, huh?"

"Yeah. Just like home..." Dick couldn't help but feel bad there. He put a hand on her shoulder.

"I know it can be pretty overwhelming at first, but trust me. You'll get used to watching Wally eat." Zatanna laughed as she watched him stuff cake in his mouth with less etiquette than Wolf. The PA system suddenly activated as Batman alerted everyone to a polar stealth mission briefing in 5 minutes. Dick quickly changed into his arctic suit and joined the others in the monitor room.

"As you may have noticed, extreme weather patterns have emerged in the past 36 hours. The League has detected 5 unique floating ice fortresses that are likely the cause of this phenomenon."

"Can't the Watchtower just blow them out of the sky or something?" Nice going, Wall! Zatanna looked to Dick, confused.

"What's a Watchtower."

"Uh..." Bruce sighed and glared at Wally.

"The League's orbiting headquarters is NOT weaponized. As such, we have to take them down ourselves. You will assist us in this goal."

"Wait, wait wait. You're asking US to join you?" Well, it's about time!

"Superboy, use the Supercycle rendezvous with the Batwing and drop off Robin and Aqualad at Ice Fortress 1. Then, carry on to back Canary and Tornado up at Ice Fortress 3. Miss Martian, Artemis, Zatanna, take the Bio-ship to Ice Fortress 2 and assist Martian Manhunter and Green Arrow. Leave the rest to the League." Wait, what about…"Lastly, Kid Flash. A young girl has had a heart failure and needs an immediate transplant. Pick up the heart from the authorities and deliver it to her with utmost haste." Wally looked at him incredulously.

"Who is this girl?!" Bruce glared at him.

"Does it matter?" Wally's expression dropped as he said no. Dick felt bad for him. Damn. His own birthday and he's missing out on all the action. Sorry, bud.

Robin and Aqualad headed off in the Supercycle to meet up with Batman, Aquaman, and Flash on Ice Fortress 1. Dick assisted Bruce in taking out the automated sentry turrets as the others slowly destroyed the ice fortress. He looked off to the side to see Zatanna chant a powerful spell that devastated another ice fortress. Dick couldn't help but smirk at that. Nice! Damn, she's amazing...The rest of the battle went by pretty quickly, and the team and League returned to the cave by around 5:00. Dick approached Zatanna after the fight, having noticed that she was resting on the couch. He sat next to her.

"Hey Zee. You okay?"

"Yeah, yeah. Just the spell. Kinda took a lot outta me."

"Well, you did take down a whole fortress on your own. Pretty whelming if you ask me." Zatanna blushed and smiled back to him.

"Thanks." They sat together for some time before Dick left to go find Wally, hoping he had returned by now. Surely enough, he found his best friend in the souvenir room. A bag? Not the most exciting souvenir, but okay. "Dude, I just heard! You saved an entire country! Major kudos!"

"What can I say? I'm the man!" Wally looked back to the souvenir and smiled for a sec before he and Dick went into his room to play videogames. They both explained their respective adventures to each other, and Dick was impressed with how selfless Wally was during his mission to save the girl. Damn. Didn't know he had that in him. Eventually, Wally changed the conversation, and Dick wished he had beat him to it.

"So, how are things with Zee?" Dick glared at him as his cheeks flushed a little bit.

"Sh-she's f-fine." Moving on…Wally grew a smirk that would make the Joker jealous.

"Oh, I'll bet she is. Does she know just how fine you think she is? Careful ya don't move too fast unless you want Bats to give you that talk. I know he's a billionaire playboy and all but I don't think you'll want him to explain the whole birds and bees thing. Or would it be birds and top hats in your case?" Dick reddened even further and growled.

"I h-hate you."

"Good. Means I'm doin' my job properly."

Sorry if some parts seemed rushed. This chapter was really not an exciting one for me to write, mainly cuz I wanted to get to more chalant, but I did my best with the little they showed of the team on screen. Next chapter is a chalant fluff, and after that is S1 Ep 21, which doesn't feature Zatanna but does feature Dick as team leader, so that'll focus on different things than these past few have.
