Ed notes: This is Lukanette. This is something I've had kicking around in my slush files ever since the radio station I listen to went through a few weeks of Sk8er Boi and it got stuck in my head. I just love Marinette being Done, and Luka being a little bit passive-aggressive. The LBSC crowd convinced me it was worth posting (blame them!), so I finished it up a bit, and here it is.

Also, don't expect canon. Not here.

Can I Make It Any More Obvious?

A Miraculous Ladybug fanfiction

The fact that Adrien kept calling, and calling, and calling all through her first proper date with Luka was beginning to really annoy Marinette.

She kept ignoring it, and she was tempted to turn her phone off. She would have, if her mother hadn't made her promise to keep it on her, and switched on, whenever she went out. The phone rang again, and Luka tilted an eyebrow at it.

"I don't think he's going to stop calling until you talk to him," he suggested gently.

"There's nothing to talk about," Marinette grumbled, but she reached for the phone anyway.

The response she snapped out should have warned Adrien that she was in no mood, but it didn't seem to stop the boy from attempting his spiel all over again, trying to convince her that he loved her, that really she loved him too, that they were meant to be… Marinette growled at that, and narrowly bit back a profanity. She was not normally a girl prone to swearing, but she was supposed to be enjoying the sunshine right now, and the green grass, the sound of birds chirping in the sodding trees, and her sweet, hot, amazing new boyfriend, who was watching her with an amused look over the top of his guitar.

"You weren't interested in me when I was just Marinette, you don't get me when I'm -" she suddenly seem to realise where she was and glanced around nervously "- someone else."

Luka was still playing, but he was messing around with riffs that rippled from one into another.

"Adrien, it doesn't matter how many times you ask me," she said to the phone, and she was rapidly losing her cool here, "there's nothing more to say."

The tune that Luka had shifted to sounded familiar, and she frowned, trying to work out where she knew it from.

She sighed. "And this is one of the reasons that I didn't want you to know who I was," she told the phone. The guitar was distracting, but honestly, she was happy to be distracted right now. The not-quite-argument she was having, again, with a very persistent cat was getting rather wearing. When she glanced at Luka, there was a tiny smile twitching at the corner of his mouth.

"Sorry, boy, but you missed out-" he was humming under his breath now.

"Oh, my god, are you playing Avril Lavigne?" Marinette's eyebrow climbed, then Adrien said something. "What? No, I was talking to Luka."

"You're with Luka?" Adrien squawked, and he had no right to sound that indignant.

"Absolutely," Marinette told him, but her attention was on the grin Luka was giving her, those killer eyes of his doing things to her as she lost the thread of what she was saying. "Got to go. Talk later." And she shut off the call before Adrien could say anything else.

"We are more than just good friends, this is how the story ends-"Luka cut off suddenly as Marinette kissed the grin off his face."You're trouble is what you are," she muttered against his mouth, and his hand lifted to cup her face.

"Maybe, but I'm your trouble now."

Some time later, Marinette remembered her now-silent phone, and shoved it into her bag with unneccesary force. At least Adrien had given up calling for the time being, although she had a feeling that the argument was far from over.

"It's giving me whiplash how fast Adrien went from just good friends to destiny once he saw me detransform."

"Too bad that you couldn't see…" Luka sang softly.

"What is up with the Avril Lavigne today?" she asked, but she said it without any heat, and Luka aimlessly plucked out the melody. He sighed.

"So maybe I'm feeling a bit petty right now," he admitted. "I've spent the past year bracing myself for the idea that once you knew who Chat was, you'd be with him."

"You knew?" Marinette huffed. Luka raised an eyebrow, but he kept his attention focused on his fingering.

"Viperion sees a lot of things," he said quietly. "There's a lot I can't tell even you."

Marinette sighed. Oh, she knew, only too well. And then she frowned.

"Wait a minute, is that why you've been shooting me down for the past few months? I seriously thought you'd moved on."

"As if I could," Luka said.

"Then you're lucky that Adrien accidentally saw me transform," Marinette told him darkly, and he looked up in surprise. "This was my last shot before I gave up on you and took up life as a nun."

Luka put aside his guitar and gave her wrist a gentle tug, and she tumbled into his lap. He bent his head to kiss her.

"I'm glad you didn't," he said eventually, when they were both breathing a bit harder and looking rather dazed. He lifted a gentle, wondering hand to brush her cheek. "This is really what you want? I'm what you want?"

"Can I make it any more obvious?" she asked, and kissed him again.
