Chapter 11- New York's Finest
New York, night time
A couple was passing the streets of New York, and eventually, they took an alley, where, as usual, things went wrong as two rough looking men came up to their front, and as they turned around to get back to the road, two more rough looking men appeared from behind, and now they were surrounded.
One of them then took out a knife as the guy begged. "We'll give you anything you want, here", he took out his wallet to give the money but it was snatched from him as they looked at the girl's necklace, but their bad intentions didn't just end there.
The one behind touched the girl's shoulder, only to get elbowed away as he let out a laugh, and now all four of them were about to get rough, when the Slayer leapt down from above the roof, landing between them all.
Before anyone could respond, she punched the lead thug hard, knocking him out, and as the next one struck with his knife, she grasped his hand and spun while making him stab another one in the shoulder, and he screamed in pain as she smacked the last one out.
Then she leapt into the air and used both feet to kick the two standing ones out, and with that, the couple was safe.
"Thank you", the girl said gratefully as she panted. "Thank you so much."
"You saved us", the guy nodded too.
"My pleasure", Slayer said to them before leaping on a trash can and using it to leap up.
Next morning
Faith's eyes opened to the smell of breakfast, and she got up with a little yawn as she wore her slippers and got out of bed, brushing her teeth and then walking over to the kitchen as she saw what Matt had made.
"Just the way you like it", Matt told Faith as she smiled and kissed his cheek, and sat down as he went through some files while eating his eggs.
"How's the case going?" Faith asked as she started eating before asking. "What's it even about?"
"A woman, murdered her boyfriend", Matt told her. "It was self-defense according to her."
"And was it?" Faith asked.
"Yes, I can tell", Matt reminded and she nodded. "But evidence points to her since she was in an abusive relationship with him, and had motive too. Because of this, too busy to patrol."
"Well, you have me, new vigilante in town", Faith smirked as he smiled at her and they kissed.
"Good luck", Faith then said as Matt nodded in thanks and walked off, and Faith picked up the next book of her collection, which had been given to her by Matt- The Silmarillion, which she was halfway through, and was going to finish it, if only to improve her English knowledge, since while The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, this one didn't interest her the same way.
It was good but not her thing, though knowing more about the lore and world was nice for sure.
Night time
Faith, as the Slayer, was patrolling the city, and well, she didn't have Matt's superhuman senses, and while she was the Slayer, she didn't have his skill of free-running across rooftops.
But she was getting better at it, as she jumped and ran better and faster, then crouched on a rooftop, her eyes searching everywhere when she found something interesting.
A little truck stopping behind the Manhattan Museum of Contemporary Art as some people got out of it, with guns and bags. They seemed quite organized as well, so she knew they weren't just random thugs.
As they got inside, Faith leapt to the rooftop, then picked off the window before entering as she crawled through a vent, then opened up to the main room, looking down from above as the thugs started taking away various paintings.
"With Fisk gone, this is the Maggia's chance to be on top again", one of them said to the other as they took the paintings.
Oh, so these were the Maggia, who dominated the crime world of New York until Fisk came along, twice. Well, they were gonna remain at the bottom now.
She sneaked around, and as one was directly below her, she leapt down and grabbed him in a chokehold from behind, easily taking him down as one of them was making away with a painting.
She walked towards him before her Slayer senses alerted her to one behind her, and spinning around, she punched him out before he could take out his gun, but the others were now alerted as they started making off with the paintings.
And some of them rushed her. They weren't a match for her strength or skill though, as she knocked the first out, then grabbed the other's wrist and flipped him down as he was out too, before she ducked the third's punch and punched his gut as he was out, and finally blocked the last's punch and elbowed him out.
The others were out now already and as she ran out, the truck was making its way away. Faith leapt onto a rooftop and gave chase as the truck joined the vehicles on the road before turning a corner, and as Faith reached it a minute later, the truck was long gone, and she couldn't make it out.
"Damn it!" She snapped, blaming herself for not being able to get to it in time, though she didn't let it get to herself.
Next morning
Faith was on Matt's laptop, looking up what was on the museum, paintings included, and all of them were quite valuable, worth millions, and they used to belong to Maggia families once.
"So this is their plan to get on the top", Faith realized, since they would probably sell these in the black market, and it would earn them enough to be bigshots once more.
She then walked to the table where Matt was getting ready and asked. "How's your case going?"
"Not well", Matt said grimly. "They have solid evidence against her, we are still struggling to get any."
"But she is telling the truth, right?" Faith asked.
"Yes, she is telling the truth", Matt confirmed. "Just need proof to show that the truth, is the truth. I miss the days when it wasn't so hard."
"You and me both", Faith told him.
"How about you?" Matt asked.
"Maggia made away with some valuable paintings, couldn't stop them", Faith sighed regretfully. "But I will stop them next time."
"I know you will", Matt assured her as they shared a quick kiss on the lips which also served as a 'good luck' to each other, and then Matt walked off and out of the house while Faith decided there were some ways she could spend her time until she went out to patrol in the night and take on the Maggia once more.
Faith exercised, doing some push-ups on the ground as she thought of what her next move could be. After finding out about these paintings, she figured she could look into other museums.
And it seemed to be the right move, since there was a lot of other valuable stuff in other museums which the Maggia would definitely go after considering what they would be worth in the black market.
There was one museum she was particularly interested in because it had a diamond collection of some very valuable diamonds, and they too used to belong to some really high ranking and infamous members of Maggia families.
So that is where she would first go tonight and find the Maggia.
Night time
Faith did exactly what she had thought, arriving at the top of this museum as the Slayer, and she removed the window before sneaking in through the vents, and opened to the main room, looking down from above.
She was right, the Maggia was here as well, and it was the diamonds they were taking. Well, this time they would definitely be stopped, and then the Maggia would remain at the bottom, where they truly belonged, and the city would be safe from organized crime.
Getting her chance, she leapt down, punching out the first thug who was knocked out, and another fired his gun as Faith flipped to avoid the shots before kicking it out of his hands, then spun while flipping and kicked his neck, sending him to the ground.
Another tried to take out his gun but he was too close as Faith grabbed his hand, then decked him as he was knocked out as well.
She then sensed another sneaking up on her with a knife but she side-stepped as he thrust it forwards, and grabbed his hand before elbowing him out as well.
They were quite sloppy, Faith noted to herself as she slid to another thug who was aiming at her and kicked his feet out from under him, sending him down as he hit his head and was knocked out as well.
As she got up, a huge mountain of a man bull-rushed into her, and to her surprise, he was strong enough to send her falling down on the ground as she rolled away and got up.
Well, this guy was huge, but she knew she was still stronger.
"Well, when the meat wagon comes to pick up what's left of you – tell 'em it was Man Mountain Marko who stomped you into the floor!" The man revealed who he was in a boasting tone.
"Tell them yourself", Faith quipped as Marko charged with a punch which she ducked to dodge, then spin kicked him back, and she tried to do so again but this time he grabbed her foot, only for her to climb and leap on him with her other foot and kick him away.
She tried to punch again but this time he grabbed her by the waist and lifting her up, threw her down to the ground as she groaned. He was pretty strong for a human. Before she could get up, he kicked her and she rolled away.
He tried to do the same again but this time she grabbed his foot and pushed him off so hard he was sent crashing into the wall.
As Faith got up, he charged her but she blocked his punch, only to hear a truck driving away, and realized they had gotten away again.
"You were busy trying to not be stomped, and they made off", Marko taunted as he threw another punch, only for Faith to block as she head-butted him, sending him staggering back, and then she marched to him, frustrated.
He tried to punch but she easily blocked and spinning, elbowed his face, before grabbing his face as she threw him off to the ground. "You think you're the one doing any stomping, cute?"
Marko was enraged at the insult as he bull-rushed her but Faith pushed him back with both hands, sending him down again. "You are lucky I didn't stomp you into the ground yet, ya know? You won't be talking about stomping if I did that."
Marko rushed again angrily but Faith grabbed him by the waist and tossed him to the other side as he rolled away, now spitting out blood. "Just give it up, kid."
Her insult only enraged Marko more, but then both of them heard police sirens, and he ran off angrily, as Faith realized she shouldn't stay here either, and leaping up, escaped via the vent onto the roof, and from there she leapt away as well, frustrated and angry once more that she had failed to stop the Maggia from getting away with valuables. Was she any good at this rate?
Next morning
Faith was sitting at the breakfast table, looking down as Matt, while he couldn't see her, could tell she was down based on just the way she breathed.
Pouring her some milk he asked. "Any problem, Faith?"
"Am I any good?" Faith asked.
"What?"
"As a vigilante?" Faith asked him. "Like, I came here because I believed it was my true calling, but so far, I haven't been able to do much, the Maggia escaped me both times, and second time it was because I was too busy fighting that Marko guy."
Matt sat down in front of her as she said. "I'm a fail so far, I couldn't get those perps. At least at Sunnydale it was just Vampires and Demons, not these huge conspiracies to get onto the top of the world."
"Look Faith, you're new to this, so you're going to be an amateur right now", Matt started as now she looked up at him. "You will make mistakes, and sometimes they will gain the upper hand. But I was an amateur too once, I made mistakes, and Fisk managed to get victories over me quite a few times. And the second time he came around, it was even worse."
"How did you beat him then?" Faith asked, interested.
"By not giving up, because I knew that as bad as Fisk was, as smart as he was, he wasn't invincible, he was a guy at day's end, well-funded and resourced guy, but still a guy", Matt pointed out to Faith. "So if another determined person tried hard enough, at day's end, Fisk would be toppled, I just needed to try hard enough and hit the exact right spots. Once that was done, I managed to take him down, and I know you will able to do the same for the Maggia."
Faith now looked hopeful as she smiled and kiss Matt on the lips, and he kissed back, and then she told him. "Well, you know how to give speeches too, spending too much time with Captain America?"
They chuckled as Matt said. "Not really, but I'd like to."
With that, he got up and walked off to go work on his own case once more, while Faith, now having regained her confidence, decided there was some more stuff she could research and look at it from some more angles.
So now she sat down at the laptop and looked up more about the Maggia, finding as much information as the Internet would give, and she found out some information on Silvio Manfredi, who was called as the former head of the Maggia organization, but not much could be found out about him either, as he was a crime boss, and he was still living too, so he would make sure to keep a low profile and keep his head out of the law's business unless he managed to accumulate power, which he would if she didn't stop them soon.
Well, Internet didn't help much, but there was one person who definitely could.
In a dark warehouse, Marko was now strapped over a chair, with dozens of needles over him, ready to be plunged at a moment's notice.
"So, are you ready?" A voice asked him from the shadows.
"Born that way", Marko replied with gritted teeth, anger in his mind, and most importantly, revenge against the Slayer for having insulted and humiliated him in a fight.
The owner of the voice stepped out of the shadows, revealing himself to be a man with a flat head- Hammerhead.
"Well then", Hammerhead said as the needles descended and Marko began to scream loudly.
Turk Barrett screamed as he was held upside down by the ankle by Faith, who held him in that position casually.
"LET ME UP!" Turk screamed.
"Tell me what you know about the Maggia's plans", Faith shrugged, and Turk knew the implications.
"Okay, so Silvermane-"
"Silvermane?"
"Silvio Manfredi", Turk clarified.
"Go on", Faith urged.
"Well, he has a flash drive on him", Turk told her. "At least that's what I heard. The drive has funds, and connections, including who takes the money, and he is having a meet with Hammerhead tonight in some warehouse over on the 5th where they will use information from the drive to bring the Maggia on the top, and the sales will be done to keep it that way. Now LET ME UP! Daredevil would never do this to me!"
Faith got a look in her eye and shrugged. "Thank you." With that, she let him up as he started panting and gasping. "We should do this again", Faith said as she walked off.
Turk immediately sat up. "Oh Hell NO!"
Fortunately for Turk, the information he gave did pan out as in the warehouse, Silvermane and Hammerhead met each other as Silvermane showed the drive. "This has everything. You can take it, and you can be on the top."
Hammerhead held out his hand but Silvermane backed his with the drive. "Payment first, we had a deal."
"Sure", Hammerhead said as Silvermane felt a gun to his head, and enraged, he grabbed the guy's hand, twisting it as the thug screamed while he aimed at Hammerhead's head, but he head-butted the barrel with his head and it was broken as Silvermane's eyes widened in horror.
"Like I said, you will get your payment", Hammerhead said as Marko now walked up behind Silvermane and effortlessly lifted him up, before there was a crack as Silvermane went limp.
Hammerhead picked up the drive when Faith leapt down at the table, shattering it as she crouched. "Good party, any room for a girl?"
"Kill her!" Hammerhead ordered as one thug aimed at her but she threw the splintered wood at his hand, making him scream in pain as he dropped his gun, and she leapt and kicked another away before spin kicking another out, then ducked and slid to avoid some gunfire and kicked that thug's feet out from under him, then she flipped to avoid some more gunfire and threw some more splintered wood, getting his hands as he screamed in pain too.
Then Marko lunged at her and punched her hard, sending her flying and falling to the ground as she spat out some blood, and wiped her mouth. "So you're stronger now, huh?"
"And this time I will stomp you!" Marko roared as he tried to exactly that, but Faith rolled away in time and kicked him back with both feet before flipping up, ready to fight and take him down easily.
He punched as she blocked, but he was stronger than before now and slowly started pushing her fist back, and she gritted her teeth as he struck her head from above, sending her down.
Then lifting her up, he threw her down on another table, shattering it as she groaned.
"Now I will stomp you", Marko said as he prepared to do that again, but Faith flipped up and kicked his face before he could, sending him back.
As he tried to punch, she spun to avoid and kicked his foot from behind, making him grunt as he turned and punched again but she ducked and decked his abdomen thrice, and he grunted again as he lunged at her but she slid from underneath him before getting up behind him, and as he turned, she leapt and flip kicked his face hard, sending him staggering away and spitting out some blood himself.
He wiped his face while glaring at her before she leapt, climbing onto him, and flipping, kicked his chin as he spat out more blood and was sent staggering back.
She landed as he charged at her with a roar but she leapt up and kicked the back of his neck hard, sending him crashing to the ground, which cracked, and she stomped on his head from behind, sending it into the ground which broke under his face.
"Told you you'd be stomped", Faith quipped before noticing Hammerhead, with the drive and a briefcase he had ran to get, was almost on his way to the door, but she rushed him and leapt high, landing in his way.
"Get out of my way, kid", Hammerhead snarled.
"Nope, the only way you have now is to the jail", Faith said as she folded her arms.
"Well then, your choice", Hammerhead said as he put the drive inside and put his briefcase down before charging her with the flat of his head like a bull, but Faith knew what it was capable of, having seen him break a gun's barrel with the head, and she leapt out of the way as the door was smashed.
"You think I don't know your mojo?" Faith asked only for him to turn as he smacked her with his fist, sending her falling down.
"Not all of it", Hammerhead taunted as Faith rolled away and got back up, ready to fight. He charged with the flat of his head but she leapt to avoid again and getting behind him, kicked his back as he was sent staggering forwards.
He turned and punched but she ducked and decked his chest and abdomen thrice before spinning and elbowing him, sending him back, and as she spun, he recovered and hit her with his head, sending her falling down as she seemed a little dazed.
Hammerhead then reached down and lifted her by the throat with both hands. "Like I said, your choice."
Before he could do a thing, she kicked him right where his liver would be, and he screamed in pain, letting her go as she unleashed a flurry of punches on the sensitive points of his chest and abdomen, making sure to hurt the internal organs, and he tried to punch again but she blocked with her arm, the damage he was taking making him weaker.
She then flipped to avoid the next strike and leaping, kicked the place where his liver would be with both feet, sending him flying off and crashing into the wall, finally knocked out.
Faith smirked, finally having gotten them as she heard sirens, and when Brett and his cops came in, they found Marko, Hammerhead and other thugs tied up while Silvermane was dead.
The Maggia had been taken down!
Faith watched from above as Hammerhead, Marko and the other thugs were lead to the police cars, and satisfied that her hard work had finally paid off, leapt away.
Faith limped back into the apartment, and found Matt lying on the couch, looking satisfied. She took off her mask and jacket and asked. "How did your case go?"
"We won, the woman is free now", Matt said as Faith smiled.
"Congratulations", she said as she took off her shoes. "For me-"
"Heard the news, congratulations", Matt said happily as Faith cuddled up to him.
"Thanks", she said as she leaned into his chest and he held onto her, and both soon went to sleep.
New York City now had a new vigilante, and she was just as dangerous and competent as the rest of them.
Done at last, hope all enjoyed, and now Faith is a full-fledged vigilante in New York at last.
Thanks a lot to Brainstorm Sorcerer for his help with the chapter again.
And next one will be Angel 3x13, since 3x12 happened alongside this chapter.
