Hey everyone, I'm back with a new story here. I'm finally back in the groove of writing again and I've been wanting to do a PJO story for awhile now so here it is.
This is obviously an AU so don't expect the complete canon version of characters, there's going to be changes. I mean this is fanfiction, so you should expect it.
If you want to join the discord server with some fellow authors and I, here's the link. We talk about what we're working on, random stuff, and just chill to be honest.

The sun rose as the loud sounds of construction and heavy traffic became increasingly louder in New York City. One Naruto Uzumaki wakes up yawning, awakened from the weird dream he just had. Looking around, he finds that he still had time for school. Under normal circumstances, he would be at his school due to it being a boarding school, but he had a doctor's appointment yesterday and his mom told the school that she'd be keeping him overnight and he'll still be at the field trip today.
With how rundown their apartment is and where it's at, waking up early is a constant thing he has to deal with. To be honest, he doesn't understand why he lives in a rundown apartment. He knows his mom makes a lot of money, but when he asks, she says they have to stay here due to 'circumstances'.
Getting out of bed to start the day, and catching his reflection in the mirror. At 12 years old, Naruto stands at 5'4, with spiky blonde hair, electric blue eyes, and slightly tanned skin with an athletic body type. Turning his gaze away, he quickly got dressed for the day, took care of his hygiene, and went downstairs.
Coming downstairs, he quickly spotted his mom in the kitchen making breakfast. With red hair and violet eyes, and a kind smile, his mom is the nicest person that he knows. With how she is, he doesn't understand why it's only his mom around and where his dad is.
"Hey mom, good morning." Naruto said with a yawn.
"Oh good morning, Naruto. Breakfast will be finished shortly so go ahead and get seated at the table." She said with a smile.
"Alright, mom." He said, while doing what she told him. It was like always. Just the two of them at the table. Just the pair of mother and son.
As long as Naruto could remember, there wasn't a time when he met or even saw his dad.. His mom almost never talks about him, not to mention there's not even a picture of him. Worst of all, Naruto wasn't even aware what his name is.. Any time he brings him up to his mom, he can tell she doesn't wanna talk about it. She always dodges the question or just has an angry look on her face while staring into space before she moves on and talks about something else.
Shaking his thoughts off, he quickly got to eat.
"So, Naruto, you have that field trip today, right?" His mom asked him.
"Hm? Oh yeah, we're going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art today. Hopefully it's not too boring" Naruto answered with a sigh.
"Oh? Who knows, you may have fun there" His mom replied with a teasing smirk.
"Fun at a museum? You're funny, mom." Naruto answered dryly.
"Well in any case, it's a learning experience so you may learn something there. I know how your dyslexia and ADHD interfere with your learning sometimes, so make sure you pay attention so you can get something from this trip." His mom told him in a lecturing manner.
"Alright mom, I'll make sure to learn something today." Naruto answered with a sigh.
"Now when you get home from break, we're going to have a talk about you going to a camp this winter." His mom told him.
"A winter camp? Why would you send me there?" Naruto asked, with a raised eyebrow.
"I wanted you to have a new experience and make more friends. Like I said, we'll talk about this when you get back." His mom said while collecting the plates from the table.
"Alright mom, if you say so. If you think I'll like it, then we'll talk about it when I get back." Naruto said to his mom who smiled at him. "Well I'm going to grab what I need for school." He told his mom before leaving.
Kushina watched him leave with a smile on her face. As soon as her son was out of sight, her smile quickly turned into a frown. 'We're lucky that no monsters have attacked us, granted with the area we're in, it definitely helps smother his scent to monsters. I wish I didn't have to send him to the camp, but he needs to learn to be able to protect himself from monsters. I don't have enough time to train him in anything. I barely had enough time to get him to start working out. At the end of the day though, sending him to camp will be the best decision. I wonder if that father of his will actually claim him' She thought with an internal sigh.
As Naruto rode on the school bus to the museum, he couldn't hold his sigh due to the scene he was currently seeing. Nancy Bobofit, a girl who can be a pain sometimes threw a sandwich hitting his friend Grover Underwood in the face. Doing that caused an argument between Nancy and another friend of his, Percy Jackson.
Usually he'd try and stop the argument between the two but he's still thinking about what his mom had been talking about this morning. Plus a small part of him was thinking about the weird dream he had last night. It seemed like the sky and ocean were seemingly at war with each other. He would've told his mom about it, but he didn't see the point of it, just writing it off as a strange dream.
The idea of a camp does sound fun, and he's sure he can make some fun memories there. He should probably talk to his mom about what kinda camp it is before he does agree to anything. He doesn't want to get there and it ends up being a waste of time or just a bad environment. Those kinds of things would turn him off the whole idea, so hopefully his mom can give him some insight on where she wants him to go.
Coming out of his thoughts, he noticed that they arrived at the museum. Getting out of his seat and waiting so he could get in line to get off the bus, he looked to where Percy and Grover were so he could go with them when he got off the bus. Stepping out of the bus, he walked over to where Percy and Grover were standing.
Percy has dishevelled, jet black hair swept to one side and sea-green eyes. He has a pretty lanky build due to not really exercising or playing any sports. While Grover has 2 crutches due to his legs, curly brown hair and brown eyes.
"What's up you guys?" Naruto asked them.
"Oh hey, Naruto. I'm just trying to get the last bits of that sandwich off my face." Grover replied with a sigh, still scrubbing his face.
"Yeah, I still can't believe she did that." Percy said with a scoff.
"Yeah, Nancy sure can take things too far sometimes." Naruto agreed. "So are you funny ready for this fun field trip?" Naruto asked with clear sarcasm.
"Oh yeah, I'm definitely ready," Percy replied with a small laugh. "At least it's the end of the year though." He said, getting a nod from Naruto.
"Hey, I'm sure it's not going to be that bad. This museum has a lot of exhibits of Greek mythology. Aren't you guys at least excited about that?" Grover asked excitedly.
"I mean Greek mythology can be cool but at the end of the day, none of the stories ever happened." Naruto told Grover who had a shocked expression on his face but shook it off.
"Yeah I guess you're right," Grover said with a dry laugh. "How about you, Percy? What do you think?" Grover asked.
"Me? Personally I really like Greek mythology" Percy said with a smile.
"Well, anyways, let's get going guys. It looks like the tour is about to start." Naruto told them, walking towards the rest of the class.
As he was walking towards the museum, he thought back to Grover's shocked expression when he told him he didn't believe in Greek mythology. He doesn't know why that would shock him, he supposes he's just really passionate about it. As he walked into the museum, he was in awe of how many different displays there were. With how huge the place is, he actually doubts he'll be bored here. Just by going off what he can see from where he's standing, it looks like this trip is going to be interesting.
"Alright class." His teacher Mr. Brunner started off, getting everyone's attention. "We'll be starting this tour off in my personal favorite section, Greek mythology." He finished off with a wide smile directed at the class.
As their class followed Mr. Brunner and Mrs. Dodds, Naruto couldn't help but look at the various artworks they passed on their way to where their teachers were leading them. Each art piece he saw awed him with how much detail there was and how good the art was in general. After a couple of more minutes of walking, they finally stopped in front of a statue with Mr. Brunner and Mrs. Dodds off to the side of it.
"Alright, so here we are at the first exhibit. This statue here portrays the hero Perseus slaying the gorgon, Medusa." Mr. Brunner started off, making sure everyone was paying attention. "Now with Medusa, before being turned into the gorgon, she was a priestess of Athena who was depicted as very beautiful. After desecrating the temple of Athena with Poseidon, Athena then cursed her resulting in her turning into the monster we all know of." He finished off, while looking at the statue of Perseus holding up Medusa's head.
Naruto hearing a different version of this story from his mother was confused. In the story his mother told him when he was younger, she told him Medusa didn't have a say in the whole matter and was wronged in the whole thing. 'I guess I'll talk to Mr. Brunner about it later. Don't think other kids want to hear the story I was told.' He thought with a sigh, walking towards the next exhibit.
As time went on, they saw and spoke about more exhibits. Some of the most memorable ones to Naruto was the painting of Heracles fighting the Cerberus, a painting of Jason and the Argonauts, and another one of Theseus with the minotaur. Now with the tour about to end, he looked ahead to where they were headed and saw a statue of a man about to eat a baby.
"Alright class, this is the last exhibit before we go on break for lunch. Here we have a statue of the Titan Kronos. As we see here, Kronos is eating his kids. Now can anyone tell me why he ate his children?" He asked his class. Looking around he didn't see anyone volunteering to answer his question. "Naruto? How about you?"
Not expecting to be called on, Naruto tried to recall his memories to see if he had an answer. Finally after 30 seconds, he answered "It was a prophecy that made him do it, right?"
"Yes, very good Naruto. He was told a prophecy that one of his sons would overthrow him. So being safe, he decided to eat all of his children. His wife, Rhea, saw what he was doing and switched out his last son Zeus with a rock to eat instead" He lectured to the class, before continuing. "Now when Kronos ate the rock, Rhea sent Zeus to an island to hide away long enough for him to protect himself. When Zeus came back, he wanted to save his siblings from his father. Can anyone tell me how he did it? Percy, how about you?" He asked, looking at Percy.
"Didn't Zeus give him something that made him throw up?" Percy asked curiously.
"I'll give you half credit for that, Percy." He said with a smile towards Percy. "Zeus came back and disguised himself then gave a potion to his father that made him cough up the rest of his children. With that, I believe it's time for us to break for lunch." Mr Brunner told his class.
As the class broke apart for lunch, Naruto stayed after for a bit after telling Percy and Grover to go on without him. After seeing everyone had left, he walked up to Mr. Brunner to ask him a question that he's had since earlier.
"Hey Mr. Brunner, I have a question." He said, getting his attention.
"Ah Naruto! Yeah, go ahead and ask your question" He replied with a smile
"So when you were talking about Medusa earlier, you said she desecrated Athena's temple. My mom told me a different story, so which one is the correct answer?" He asked with curiosity laced in his tone
"Oh? What did your mom tell you?" He asked, amused.
"She told me that Poseidon took Medusa against her will in Athena's temple and Athena got mad and cursed her." He told while looking towards where the statue was, not catching his teacher's serious expression as he said it before he smiled again.
"Well Naruto, with mythology there are different versions of each story. There's not really a correct version, since they are just stories." He answered back with a slight grimace.
"Well which story do you like to follow, Mr. Brunner?" Naruto asked him
"Me? Well I'm not quite sure which story I would follow. If I had to answer though, I follow the version I answered earlier. I don't think the gods would punish Medusa if she were in the wrong." Mr. Brunner answered with a fake smile.
"Oh… well alright, Mr. Brunner. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I'm going to go eat my lunch now, so bye!" Naruto said before quickly running off.
Mr. Brunner watching him leave couldn't help but sigh. 'I hope his mom sends him to camp, I don't want them to be attacked by monsters. I know she can protect herself due to who her dad is and how much she trained at camp, but I don't think he'd be able to handle it. I just hope his dad isn't the one who I think it is. Now I have to go find Percy to make sure he's not getting into any trouble. Grover saw Naruto stay back with me so he should be with Percy to keep him out of trouble' He thought to himself as he wheeled himself away to go look for Percy.
After eating his lunch, Naruto went to meet up with Percy and Grover. Even before he got over to where they were, he could tell something weird had happened. Percy was acting frantic in his motions in talking to Grover, while Grover just seemed skittish about something. 'Hm something weird must've happened to them while we were separated' Naruto thought to himself as he neared them.
"Percy, Grover, What's up?" He greeted
"Oh Naruto, there you are! You remember our math teacher, right?" Percy asked him.
"Mrs. Dodds? Yeah, what about her?" Naruto asked him, seeing Percy looking relieved about his answer, not catching Grover's look of alarm.
"Oh thank you! I thought I was going crazy. Anyone I asked, they all said they didn't remember her." Percy told him.
"I mean of course I remember her. It's kinda hard not to remember her." Naruto said with a small chuckle. "Anyways Percy, what happened? You're not being your normal self." Naruto asked him seriously.
"When we were finished with the tour, Mrs. Dodds came up to me and asked me to follow her. I did, thinking I was in trouble for something I did again. When we arrived at where she was taking me, she immediately started frantically asking me 'where is it?' repeatedly. I didn't know what she was talking about so I told her as such. Apparently that wasn't the answer she liked, so she turned into some kind of monster and attacked me. It would've been bad if Mr. Brunner didn't show up and tossed me a pen that somehow turned into a sword." Percy said seriously, making sure to speak low.
Naruto sat there for a couple of moments processing exactly what he heard. After a couple of seconds, he couldn't help but to start laughing. Starting off with quiet chuckles, it quickly evolved into loud laughter. After a minute of laughing, he started to stop. As he stopped, he noticed Percy looking at him like he couldn't believe he was laughing.
"Man Percy, that was a funny joke. So you're saying that our math teacher transformed and tried to attack you?" Naruto asked with amusement in his tone.
"Yes! I'm being serious here, I have no reason to lie." Percy told him
"I don't know man, I think you may have hit your head or gotten sick or something." Naruto said to Percy.
"Alright then, where's Mrs. Dodds?" Percy asked him, trying to make him believe his story.
"I'm not sure, I don't see her out here. Maybe she had an emergency she had to take care of." Naruto said back with slight confusion.
"I told you where she is, and what she is. Grover you believe me, right?" Percy asked his other friend.
"Yeah I'm with Naruto on this one, Percy. I think you must've hit your head or something" He answered back, looking nervous.
"Anyways we can talk about this later, it looks like we're done with the field trip. Guess we're going back to Yancy." Naruto told them while looking towards the bus. "I could've sworn that our trip was longer but I guess I read the paper wrong. Anyways let's go, guys." Naruto told them while walking towards the bus. 'I'm ready for winter break to get here already, I was lucky enough to spend a night with my mom, but I'm getting tired of Yancy. Now I have to wait till break starts to talk to mom about that camp' Naruto thought to himself as he stepped onto the bus.
As Naruto walked into his apartment, he was happy he was finally home again and he could see his mom. Nothing interesting happened after the class field trip. With how tired he was after not getting much sleep the night before, as soon as they got back and went to sleep. Percy still kept on insisting that his story was true, but after a day, he stopped mentioning it, seeing Naruto wouldn't believe it still.
Noticing his mom sitting in the living room, he sat his backpack down and went to sit in the seat adjacent to her.
"Hey honey, how are you? How's school been for you?" His mom asked with a warm smile.
"It's been good mom, I'm glad that winter break is finally here." He answered back.
"And your field trip? How'd that end up turning out to be? Did it end up being boring?" She asked with a smirk, as if she already knew he enjoyed it.
"The field trip was fun. More fun than I expected it to be." He started off with a small chuckle, while rubbing the back of his head. "I really enjoyed the Greek mythology stuff though." He said to her with a smile, before becoming confused seeing her turn serious.
"Actually that's something I wanted to talk to you about before we started talking about the camp." She told him.
"What do you mean, mom?" He asked with a raised eyebrow
"Well I'm going to tell you about your heritage. Don't interrupt me until I'm finished. I think the best way to say it is just coming right out and saying it. The Greek mythology that you learned about, it's all real. I know just by going off of your face right now that I sound crazy, but trust me, it's true. How I know this is because my dad is actually a god. I couldn't believe it at first either, but it ended up being true. A reason why I told you so much about Greek mythology growing up is so you'd start to like it and be able to accept it easier for when I told you. The reason why you have dyslexia is because your brain is wired to read Greek and your ADHD is something that helps you whenever you get in a fight. " She started off, taking a break to drink some water. Looking at Naruto, she saw he was still processing it. "About 13 years ago, I met your father. I didn't know he was a god until you were born to be honest. I don't love him or anything, but I am glad he gave me my greatest gift I could have ever asked for." She said with a loving smile towards Naruto. "Alright son, any questions?"
"Well yeah… I still find it hard to believe. I know you're not the type to lie about this sort of thing, but I still don't fully believe it. I mean I was raised my whole life believing they were just myths." Naruto said honestly, with wide eyes, shocked on what his mother just told him.
"I know it's a lot to take in and it's hard to believe, trust me, I know how you feel" His mom replied back, not pressuring him to accept it.
"I mean, do you have any proof? Like of what you're talking about?" He asked his mom, seeing her think for a minute before brightening up.
"Actually I do now that I remember. Stay right here while I get it." She said, before getting up to go leave.
Naruto didn't have to wait long for his mother to return. Seeing her with a box made him wonder what it was she was about to show him. He's still trying to wrap his head around the fact that these myths may be real after all.
"Alright, here it is. I actually forgot I still had it." She said while giggling, before pulling out what appeared to be a large horn of some kind and a picture. "This is from the time I killed a minotaur. I was with two other friends from my cabin while we were outside of camp due to us leaving camp since we didn't stay year round. Before going home, we decided to go somewhere together, and before we went to leave, we were attacked by a minotaur. After fighting it together, I eventually managed to land the killing blow on it. Afterwards my two friends thought it'd be 'cool' to honor my achievement." She told her son, giving him the picture of her beside the dead minotaur.
After taking the photo, Naruto was shocked to his core. In the photo, he can see a young version of his mom standing beside a downed minotaur. As he's trying to come to terms with it actually being real, with proof right in front of him, Kushina gives him some time so he can come to terms with it. Finally after about five minutes, Naruto starts to accept that his mom is telling the truth, and it is real. After a few more minutes of coming to terms with it being real, still shocked about it all, he hands his mom the picture back so she can put it back in the box with the horn.
"Well this is a lot to take in," Naruto starts off slowly, still reeling from the myths he's learned about actually being real. "I can see you're telling the truth now though. It took some time for me to process it, but I believe you now." He finished, with his eyes still slightly wide from the shock of it.
"I know it's a lot to take in honey, and that's why I gave you time to come to terms with it. I'm glad though that now you know I'm telling the truth and we can continue our talk." His mom said with a smile.
"I'm glad you allowed me to because it was definitely a lot to process." He started off, chuckling slightly. "I remember you saying your dad is a god. If your dad is a god though, which one is he?" Naruto asked, still slightly taken aback with what he's learned. He knows his mom is telling the truth because she wouldn't lie about something about what he's always wanted to learn, his heritage and with him seeing proof of it, he definitely knows the truth now.
"Well my dad is Ares, The God of War." She said with pride. "My mother said I get my fiery personality and some of my physical traits from him." She finished with a smile.
"Ares? That's cool! And you said you met him before?" Naruto asked with excitement.
Kushina giggling at her son's excitement, answered "yeah, while I was doing something for the camp I told you about, I met him."
"What about my dad? Who is he?" Naruto answered, eager to know who he is.
"Unfortunately, I can't say. When you were born, your father made me promise not to tell you before he claimed you himself." She said with a grimace, after seeing Naruto's disappointed expression.
Feeling slightly disappointed, he perked up when he remembered something his mom said. "Claim? What do you mean?" He asked curiously.
"You'll learn more at camp, but basically it's what it sounds like. A god will claim someone as their child." She said with a slight smile.
"Oh yeah, what is this camp?" Naruto asked his mom.
"The camp is called Camp Half-blood. It's for those with the blood of a god in them as well as other things. I actually used to go there when I was younger, but left because I wanted to make a name for myself and eventually have a family. The reason I want you to go is so you can learn more about your heritage and so you can learn to protect yourself from monsters" She told her son.
"Huh, so I guess Percy was right after all." Naruto said in a mumble, but his mom still heard him.
"What was that, honey?" His mom asked curiously.
"Oh, my friend said our math teacher transformed into a monster and attacked him." He told her, getting a gasp from his mom.
"Really? Well I hope he's alright." She told him, concerned for his friend.
"Yeah, Percy's fine. I just didn't believe him when he told me." Naruto said, already planning to tell Percy sorry the next time he sees him.
"I'm glad he's fine. We're lucky we haven't had any monsters attack us. I mean I'm strong, but if there's more than one monster, it could've ended up being a problem. That's why we live here after all. Demigods like us have this scent to us that attracts monsters. The reason we live here despite me making good money, is to cover up the scent." She told him seriously.
"I always wondered why we lived here, but I guess I know now." Naruto said idly, getting a laugh from his mom.
"Yeah thankfully this place has served its purpose for us. Anyways, do you want to go to this camp?" Kushina asked
"Yeah, I'll go. I want to learn more about my heritage and get strong enough to not have to worry about monsters so we can live in a place better than this." Naruto answered with a determined expression.
"That's good honey, because I've already let the activities director know you'd be going. Now I'm sorry to unload this on you as soon as you got home, but I'll actually be taking you after you get some of your things packed. I have a conference that I have to attend and the flight is tonight so I'm going to go ahead and take you there." She said, sad that she wouldn't be able to spend any time with her son.
"Well I was hoping I'd be able to spend time with you, but since you have to go somewhere, it's fine." Naruto said in a sad tone.
"This is why I went ahead and got you a phone." She said, taking a package out of her purse, then smiling when she saw Naruto's expression. "Now we'll be able to talk whenever I'm not busy." She finished, while handing Naruto his new phone.
"Thank you, Mom." He said, standing up. "I'm going to go get packed now so we can go ahead and leave for the camp" He told her. Going over to his mom, he motioned her to stand up. When she did, he hugged her tight. Not being able to see her any over winter break will be hard, so he's making sure he enjoys it as much as possible. After a few minutes, he breaks the hug, smiles warmly at his mom, then leaves for his room to pack for camp.
'I'll definitely miss you, but trust me, you'll eventually thank me for sending you there'. Kushina thought to herself, following her son to his room so she makes sure he packs the right things for camp.
"Alright, we're here." His mom said to him as they pulled to the side of the road.
"What do you mean? All I see is a big hill and a sign for a strawberry service." He replied, not seeing what she was talking about.
"Trust me honey, this is it. If I wasn't so pressed for time, I'd walk you up there. Since I am though, I guess this is where we part. I hope you make a lot of fun memories and meet new friends. I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot. Make sure you call at least every other day. Well anyways, I wish you luck. Goodbye, Naruto. I love you." She said, while wrapping him in a hug and affectionately stroking his hair.
"I love you too, mom. Goodbye" Naruto said with a smile, while they ended the hug. Getting out of the car and grabbing his duffel bag. He stayed in place while waving until his mom's car wasn't in view anymore.
After seeing her car was gone, he turned towards the hill. Looking at the sign, he saw it say 'Camp Half-Blood' after a couple of seconds of looking at it. Crediting that to his dyslexia, he started to walk up the hill. As he was walking, he couldn't help but admire the sights around him. After he got about half way up the hill, he noticed a tree out of place. Shrugging it off, he kept walking. As he walked past the tree, it felt like he walked through something. Looking around, he didn't notice anything so he just filed it for later.
As he got to the top of the hill, he could finally see the camp and he had to admit, it was quite beautiful. As he took his eyes off surveying the camp, he spotted someone very familiar waiting to greet him.
"Mr. Brunner! I didn't think I'd see you again over the break." Naruto said, curious on who his teacher actually is.
Chuckling slightly at his student he answered "Yes, you'll be seeing me all winter break. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood, Naruto"
And that's the end of the first chapter. I know there wasn't any action, but I didn't want Naruto to just be Percy's tagalong against Mrs. Dodds and the Minotaur.
Don't worry though, he'll be fighting monsters.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed it and see you guys next time.
