And here is the finale chapter. Thank you to everyone who had read and reviewed this story. Hope you enjoy the final chapter.
Green Hal37: Been a while since I've seen the episode and I'm unlikely to do so again, but from what I remember, the fight was pretty much just a knockoff of the Hulk/Abomination fight from the Incredible Hulk. Fair enough. Yep. Very true on Cisco.
Allen Residence, 2034
Afternoon
In her study, Caitlin was going over some paperwork when she heard a sound that was both welcoming and distracting.
"Mommy! Tommy took my doll!"
"I did not!"
Letting out a sound that was a sigh and a laugh at the same time, Caitlin looked up as her children burst into the room.
Nora, age 9, and Tommy, age 11, couldn't have been more different. While her son was the splitting image of his father, her daughter looked like she had at that age, save for her hair being just a little bit darker and the hazel eyes she and her brother had both inherited from their father. In terms of personality, they also differed. While Nora, like herself, was content to get lost in her own little world, Tommy was more likely to hang out with his friends at school, talking about whatever comic books they were reading at the moment. 95% percent of the time, they got along as well as siblings could. But occasionally, one of them, usually Tommy, would get an idea in their head that would cause an issue between them.
"Tommy, did you take Nora's doll?" Caitlin asked calmly.
"No!" he protested and she merely raised an eyebrow, causing him to falter. "Yes."
"Why?" Caitlin asked patiently, wondering what mischief her son was getting up to now.
"I was just gonna borrow it. I wanted to see if it would float under water," Tommy confessed sheepishly.
"Give Nora her doll back and go get ready for lunch," Caitlin ordered.
Tommy grumbled but didn't protest as he walked out the door, Nora following him with a smug smile on her face. Caitlin put a hand to her mouth as she tried to stop herself from laughing at the antics of her children.
Things could be worse, a lot worse she knew. The last twenty years hadn't all been easy. Explaining to Joe and Eddie how the T-800 had been a CIA operative had been Thawne's idea while Cisco had come up with the idea that the T-1000 was a criminal mastermind who had sought revenge against Dr. Wells for the death of his wife in the Particle Accelerator explosion. He'd targeted Barry out of vindictiveness due to the fact that Barry had gotten help while his wife hadn't. Joe and Eddie were skeptical but all they needed to believe was that the three of them had believed it.
Barry woke up from his coma a few months later and things were as they should be. Barry was, of course, devastated to learn of Iris' death but life went on. He mourned her along with Eddie and Joe as he, Cisco, Caitlin and Thawne became what Cisco had dubbed Team Flash. The revelation that 'Wells' was actually Thawne had been a hard pill for them all to swallow, especially once she and Cisco realized that Thawne had actually killed Devoe that day. But, together with Eddie and Joe and an assist from Oliver Queen and Firestorm, they had managed to stop him and Thawne spent the rest of his life in an ARGUS black site. And, in the midst of everything, she and Barry had fallen in love.
Their burgeoning relationship had been complicated by Ronnie's return. Barry had given her space for a few days to let her sort out her feelings. But, as much as she may have once loved Ronnie, the scars his loss had left on her, her ordeal with the T-1000 and the months she'd spent as part of Team Flash had changed her. She was no longer the woman he loved, the woman who had loved him. To pretend otherwise would only have hurt all three of them in the long run. So Caitlin had given Ronnie his ring back, telling him as gently as she could that, although part of her would always love him, she had moved on with her life while he had been gone. Although heartbroken, Ronnie had understood and they had parted on good terms with him wishing her and Barry the best.
The years passed and she and Barry had gone on to marry and have Tommy. What, in another timeline, would have been Judgment Day came and passed like just another day. Cisco had wanted to take to the streets, shouting that it was a miracle, that this day and every day afterwards was a gift. Caitlin had talked him into having a drink with her instead while putting Tommy down for a nap. As if fate was telling her it was a sign, she'd discovered she was pregnant with Nora a week later.
It wasn't always sunshine and roses. There were still arguments, senseless tragedy, violence and more. But all Caitlin had to do was think back on those two days where she and Cisco had been protected by a machine from an assassin sent to kill them to know that it could always be so much worse. That always stopped her from feeling ungrateful, from wanting more than what she had.
"Hey."
Caitlin was broken out of her thoughts by the voice of her husband. Barry stood in the doorway to her study, leaning against the doorway as he eyed her in concern.
"Everything okay?" Barry asked.
"Everything is perfect," Caitlin said honestly as she smiled at him.
And that's a wrap.
Some of probably expected this to end in the present, but I thought a flash forward showing that everything turned out alright just worked as a better ending. Hope you guys enjoyed it.
