(Some Much Needed Closure)
As one can imagine, the second aftermath had not gone well for a few people in particular, but now that it was over, things were starting to die down, especially for those few people.
"You want a soda?"
Gwen glanced up from her place in the backstage room to see DJ holding out a soda to her "Sure, thanks." she downed it in a few gulps and let out a sigh "Dammit, they really let me have it out there."
"I know what you mean, I could feel momma staring me down a few times." DJ let out a sigh of his own as he sat down next to her "Are you gonna be okay?"
"Give me some time to cool off and I'll be fine. The other out there were pretty rough, and then having to see Trent was no cakewalk either. I guess he's the man now, has a crap ton of girls going after him. They also go for the musicians." she glanced up at DJ and patted him on the shoulder a few times "For what it's worth, thanks for sticking by me during all of that."
"It's what friends are for." DJ gave a small smile "And trust me, if there's anyone that gets how it feels to do something they're not proud of, it's me."
"I guess, but still… I don't know where Trent and I go from here."
"Give it time, maybe that question is gonna give out an answer to you."
As if on cue, this was when Trent suddenly bolted into the room looking very disheveled, and he quickly locked the door behind him "Okay, I think I lost them."
"What the heck happened to you?"
"You remember those wheelbarrows of fanmail that the fangirls have been sending me since I got kicked off?" this caused Gwen to cringe.
"Yeah?"
"Turns out they formed an army and showed up so they could meet me in person, and at the head of it was Katie and Sadie. I barely pulled myself out of there in one piece."
"Ouch."
"Yeah." then Trent locked eyes with Gwen and cringed slightly "Hey DJ, you mind giving me a few minutes? I need to talk to Gwen about something."
"Um…" DJ glanced over at Gwen and was met with a simple nod "Yeah sure, I'll give you guys some space." and so he quietly slipped his way out of the room.
"Hey."
"Hey." Gwen glanced down at her soda.
"So… are you okay?"
"I've been better, but I've been a hell of a lot worse. How about you?"
"Well in the span of about a week, I lost my girlfriend, I lost my chance at a million bucks, and then I almost got raped by an army of fangirls that I'm pretty sure had rabies. I do have a few things that I want to get off my chest though."
"Yeah me too." she turned to face him "Trent, I'm so sorry for the way things turned out."
"Don't be, if there's anyone who should be apologizing it's me. Look Gwen, you're amazing in just about every sense of the word. You're the most amazing girl I've ever met. You're beautiful, intelligent, you've got a good heart, you're pretty much the total package in my eyes, everything I could've wanted in a girl. So when we got separated and you and Duncan started getting closer to each other, I pretty much panicked, and then the whole number nine thing came out."
"Yeah, I heard what that's about. I'm…"
"Don't bother apologizing, it's not on you. Truth be told, it really only comes out when I get really nervous or stressed about something. I thought that I was gonna lose you, so I figured I'd do whatever I had to in order to make sure that didn't happen, and when Owen told me that girls like winning stuff… You pretty much know the rest."
"Trent, you don't have to tell me all of this."
"Yeah I do, I should've told you a lot sooner actually, and maybe then they wouldn't have given you so much grief out there. Look Gwen, I can accept you and me not being a thing, but what I can't accept is the way I acted, and how I pretty much caused this whole thing. I just… I want you to know I'm better than that."
"Of course I know that. If you weren't, then I wouldn't like you as much as I do."
"Yeah…" Trent let out a sigh as he pulled Gwen into a hug "Maybe you can find a guy that won't screw things up as bad as I did." he gave her a quick kiss to the forehead, and then with a simple wave he left the room, leaving the door open behind him.
"Yeah, that's easier said than done." Gwen let out a sigh as she laid back against the couch, only to catch sight of Cody making his way past the room, giving her a quick wave and a smile as he did so, one she returned, if only briefly "Or maybe not…"
A/N:
One common complaint I've heard about the whole Gwen and Trent thing is that they never really gave them any closure, and I do agree to a certain extent. While I personally ship Gwody (Gwen x Cody), I do think they could've given them at least one more meaningful conversation, so I decided to make a quick oneshot dedicated to them making amends. Plus I even got throw in a little bit of bonding between Gwen and DJ, because I think the friendship between the two of them is underrated as hell.
