Hello again and welcome to chapter number 26.
"Could you tell me again what happened?" the nurse asked while handing me a wet towel which I put in my left eye, "The same I told ye before, I was climbing a tree, the branch couldn't hold my weight, it broke and I fell" I answered, "I know, but I don't find the way that could make an injury like the one you have" she said, "I hit my head with a rock" I added, "that would have made a bruise, not a cut" she then said, "Ye should have seen that rock" I said, she then took and gave me some band aids, "I wish I could do more, but I am a Pokémon nurse" she said, "There be no problem, thanks fer the help mis… before I could finish my sentence someone grabbed me from the forehead and with a piece of cotton dipped in a brown liquid put it all over my wound, and fer Kyogre that thing hurts, "Who the hell did that!" I said pissed off, but when I saw who, well I was still angry, but I understood why he did that, "Red-eyes" Stephen was standing next to me with the piece of cotton on his hand, "Excuse me, but you can't just enter a Poke center and do that" the nurse said to my brother, "Sorry, I be Doctor Stephen Bates, and this lad older brother" he responded, "It be true" I said as confirmation, "I'll take care of him from now" then Stephen snatched me the band aids, and literally slapped one in my forehead, "Next time ye practice boxing with Lucario, use something to protect you, or do you want to lose an eye?" he asked, "How do ye know I was…" he interrupted before I could finish my sentence, "I been watching you…" we both remained silent for a moment, "Nah, I saw you leaving the forest with the bandage in your hands, and Lucario with a worried look following you from behind" he said, then he put the other band aid on my cheek, "Congrats on defeating Elesa, but ye committed the same mistake as always, you are too over confident Sailer, and you´ll have to fix that, because the next two gym battles will make this look like sailing in a lake" he said, "I'll take that in mind".
We then headed towards the river, the plan was to take a boat, sail through the river and arrive to Opelucid city, Stephen had supposedly already rented a boat, but for what I now know about the family business he does, I doubt he truly rented the boat, but I decided not to say anything, I didn't want to say something that I shouldn't, I decided to wait until we were already sailing to make him questions, but when we arrived to the entrance of the port the way was blocked by no other than the army, "Stop there, reason of entry?" one of the soldiers asked, "I rented a boat and plan to take my brother in a ride" Stephen calmly said, the soldiers discussed it for a moment and then let us pass, "I don't trust those guys" Stephen said, "They be just doing their job" Stephen made a grimace.
We continued walking in silence and when we arrived at the river there were more soldiers. There was a line of people that started in a table where a man with a military uniform decorated with bright golden colors asked the people some questions and then giving them indications of where to go, they were enlisting people, but this time there were some women on the line, we continued and then I saw a line of soldiers practicing their aim, next to them was the place were the new enlisted received the necessary equipment.
We were about to get on the boat when the musket of one of the soldiers malfunctioned and the breech exploded launching sparks into his eyes, the man fell while screaming in pain, the soldiers around him went to his help, but they couldn't help in much, "Ye should do something" I told Stephen, "I guess I have to", Stephen got to where the wounded soldier was, "Bring me distilled water!" he said while kneeling down, but the soldiers looked at him wondering who he was, "Do ye want him to lost his eyes?" Stephen said and one of the men ran to get what he requested, "Listen, I have to clean your eyes from any gunpowder that could have got in, so I need ye to open yours eyes" Stephen tried to explain to the injured soldier, but the man was in such pain that the only thing he could do was yelling, then he looked to one of the man partners, "Help me open his eyes" Stephen said to the other soldier, the young man hesitated for a moment but eventually accepted to help.
Then what looked like an officer came accompanying the soldier that went for the water, "What is happening in here?" the officer asked, "One of the outdated guns your brave soldiers uses exploded in his face" Stephen answered "Give me the water" they handed him a bottle and forcing the man to open his eyes Stephen poured the water on his eyes, and the screams he gave, that remained in my head for some days.
Thank fully Stephen managed to save most part of the soldier vision, the officer came to thank him, but instead of reacting in a respectful manner, he…
"This accident could have been avoided if you high society people instead of wasting money on dressing with gold, ye should use it to buy better equipment for the women and men that ye all send to fight your wars!" he answered in a very disrespectful manner, "Do ye have any idea of history son?" the officer asked "More that ye probably" Stephen answered, "Then ye should know about the Magikarp treaty" the officer responded, "Yeah, the treaty that ye cowards signed at the end of the Great Pokémon War" before thing got any worse I interrupted, "Excuse me brother sir, our dad be from the cold parts of Sinnoh and ye can guess who inherited the attitude" I said, "It's fine kid, he is right, but the treaty was signed we like it or not, have a nice day and don't do anything illegal" got on the boat and set sail.
Now you may be wondering what the Magikarp treaty is, let me explain it.
After the last battle of the Great Pokémon War was fought and the Central regions ended up victorious, the losers faction, The Regions Coalition had to give up all their military equipment, and depending on how much of a threat they presented, their military power got restricted, and in the case of the Unova region, the army would be allowed to use muskets and similar guns, light cannons, and having an air force or battleship were prohibited, and with battleships prohibited they meant that Unova could have a navy, but only conformed with coast guards boats with no guns, so they could only be used as transport, or to chase small boats, but nothing compared to the majestic vessels that my Grandfather told me were used long time ago, and that would be the treaty summarized, there are a lot more of rules on it, but that was the important part. And no, using the uniforms they use was not a requirement, but they though that if they had to use muskets, may as well dress for the occasion.
"How is your eye?" Stephen asked me after a while, "it be fine now" I answered, "… I heard the captain is coming ashore" he said, "He finished his voyage way earlier" I said, "No, I think he has something important to do on Humilau city" he added "What would that be?" and with a grin on his face he answered, "Ye don't want me to ruin the surprise"
This was chapter 26, I made it to explain why in my story the army uses muskets when considering the advances in the Pokémon they should be using laser guns, but I can assure you that this will have relevance in the future, but not of this story, but like Stephen just said, ye don't want me to ruin the surprise, see you all next chapter.
