When I wake, a heavy arm is draped over my waist, preventing me from moving an inch. I sneak a look over my shoulder at Dean's sleeping face. He breathes in and out deeply, his normally tense face relaxed. I gently slide out of his arms, slipping out from under the covers onto the cold concrete floor. As I move away from the bed, I catch a glimpse of the clock on the bedside table. 2am. The shirt I'm wearing reaches halfway down my thighs, so I don't bother hunting for a pair of pants. When I step into the hallway, I see the faint glow of the lights still on in the living area

Castiel is sitting on the couch waiting for me when I step into the room.

"What do you want, Castiel?" I ask, wrapping a blanket around myself and sitting down beside him.

He turns to face me with a solemn expression on his face. "I do not think you should still be in the Winchesters' lives."

I roll my eyes and pull the blanket tighter around myself, bumping his shoulder playfully. "You know you love having me around."

He pulls away from me. "This is not a joke, Lailah. I warned you to stay away from them because I knew you would try to insert yourself into their lives."

"And that's a bad thing?" I say sharply, trying not to be too loud in case I wake up one of the boys. "Heaven is falling apart, brother. You know that." I sigh, letting the anger melt from my body. "I was tired. For millennia I have watched over children in the womb, protected them throughout their lives, yet have never been able to have my own. Don't I deserve the chance to have a normal life?"

Castiel is silently watching me. With a sigh, he nods. "I understand."

Leaning in, I rest my head on his shoulder.

It takes him a moment to respond, but he gently wraps his arms around me, keeping us both warm. "We will both get the normal lives we desire," he says with a confidence I do not feel.

The first human awake in the bunker is Sam, as he readies himself for his early morning run. He isn't surprised to see me as he enters the kitchen looking for something to eat.

"Morning, Sam!" I say happily, looking up from tying my shoelaces briefly to see him hunting through the pantry. "Looking for something?"

He hums and haws for a bit, face still buried in the overflowing shelves.

I gently push past him and bend down to the bottom shelf, handing him his box of muesli bars and receiving a grateful smile in return.

Hats on heads and jackets zipped up to our collar bones, we exit the bunker and start our usual jogging route. For the most part, we run in silence, but today he's preoccupied with an article in the paper yesterday which caught his eye. We both tend to talk out loud to understand problems, so I don't mind listening to him tell me about an unusual killing that took place a few towns over. Before I know it, we're back at the bunker. My watch reads 8am; two hours after we left to go for our run.

"There they are!" Dean exclaims as we make our way into the kitchen. "I thought you guys were dead or something." He plants a kiss on the top of my head and lightly smacks my behind as he passes.

I chuckle and grab him by the shirt, pulling him back towards me to give him a real kiss.

Sam politely coughs behind us, and Dean gives him the finger, making him choke on his orange juice.

Castiel looks between him and us, confused. "I do not understand this gesture."

Dean reluctantly lets me go and shoots him a look. "We'll tell you when you're older."

"But I am over-"

"Okay you two, enough arguing. Sam's got a case… go pack our bags while we get cleaned up, then he'll brief you." I give them each a shove towards the bedrooms.

Dean makes a face before giving me another quick kiss and begrudgingly making his way to our room. "Bully."

I turn around to see Castiel watching him with a look I could only describe as endearment.

He meets my eyes, shifts uncomfortably, and quickly walks past me to go pack Sam's bag.

I feel a pang of jealousy as I watch him leave, remembering all the times he tried to prevent me from coming down to Earth to meet the Winchesters'. My stomach turns uneasily. Was he really only trying to protect me? Or did he have another reason?
