The beginning of September is dawning on Harry, and he is getting excited about going off to Hogwarts. Uncle Vernon has begrudgingly agreed to drop him off at the train station in London.
Taking up more of his time, Harry has consumed himself in reading from the tome he bought weeks ago.
He stumbles upon a section deep in the middle of the book: "Summoning".
"Groups take on different properties in the physical and spiritual realm. In the physical realm, an individual is 1, while a group of two is 1.1+1.1=2.2, while a group of ten is 1.15+1.15+1.15+1.15+1.15+1.15+1.15+1.15+1.15+1.15=11.5. Trade amongst the group increases the value.
But in the spirit world, it is completely different. An individual is still 1, but a group of two is 0.48+0.48=0.96, while a group of ten is 0.09+0.09+0.09+0.09+0.09+0.09+0.09+0.09+0.09+0.09=0.9. A group loses its spirit.
Faith in the group can reduce the losses of the spirit world and allow the summoner to recoup the losses from summoning.
Summoning is simple, but even the summoning of a single creature, reduces the spirit of the summoner by more than a half."
Harry read further, where it shows a simple summoning ritual for a tiny elemental. "The elemental depends on the medium on which it is summoned. For a freely summoned creature, any material will do. Mind that they will be filled with a hatred of this world and be poised to only want destruction. For a more costly summoning, not just in spirit, only the best magical ingredients can be used, such as angel feathers, but they will not be filled with an empty void inside of them. The orcs of Sauron, and the elves of Manwe are prime examples. As Sauron summons orcs forth with an empty void searching out pain and destruction, while the elves of Manwe are content."
Harry did not have his wand on him, but the book mentioned that a wand only facilitated the summoning.
The biggest obstacle in the summoning was allowing to lose more than half of the spirit to summon the first creature. After that, the losses get smaller, but the summoner is still at a diminished spirit.
"To recoup some of the losses, have them have faith in you. This means doing something without any proof, and them believing it. The bigger the deed, the more faith it will produce."
Harry couldn't do much, except teleportation. But Harry decided to give it a try.
Walking outside of Privet Drive, Harry walked towards a mud puddle in the backyard.
Focusing on the feeling he gets when teleporting, he modified it a bit towards the mud in front of him. A small blob in the mud slowly rose, until it fell down. This happened again and again. At evening that day Harry returned back to the house, disappointed.
A week went by practicing this in the mud all day, each day, before on his last try a small blob rose and coalesced into a small bi-pedal mud elemental just six inches tall. This elemental is imbued with the power of Harry.
While Harry looked closer to inspect, noting it was poorly made up with a gritty grain and cracks of dried mud in patches over the figure, the elemental started uprooting grass, killing the grass.
"Your name is Mudfyyre", Harry peered at the mean little eyes of the elemental "you may destroy plants, but not any living creatures or their stuff". The elemental, Mudfyyre, paused in its killing of the grass to listen to Harry.
"Yesss master" Mudfyyre slurred.
"As well, I can teleport. I give you no proof of it, and probably never will. Have faith that I can."
The mean little elemental looked around a bit before replying "yeesss master".
Harry then went back to his room to get a box, and returned minutes later with a small patch of dead uprooted grass and flowers around the elemental. Harry scooped up the elemental into the box, sealing it with tape, and went to the shed where he stowed the elemental under heavy equipment.
Later in the week, the time for his departure to Hogwarts had arrived. He took all his supplies with him, but left the tome hidden in his room, and the elemental stuck in the lonely dark of the box hidden under the supplies in the shed.
"Hurry up" bellowed Uncle Vernon, as Harry finished packing his school supplies into the car.
With a screech of the tires, the car drove off. Uncle Vernon went into his favorite sport, highway honking, and soon after an afternoon filled with it, they arrived in London outside of the train station.
Uncle Vernon dumped all his stuff onto the sidewalk, with the clothes suitcase splitting open spilling some of his clothes on the sidewalk, before screeching off in his car.
Harry picked up his stuff, and meandered to the entrance of the train station, where a family of red heads almost hit him as they zoomed by him.
