Dreaming Desire
Zero stands on the slightly crumbling walls of the imperial palace. His black clothes are stained with burn marks and blood. In his hand a worn-out and dirty sword. In the background a huge fire, which eats the whole palace without any consideration.
"At last... I've finally done it." it sounds satisfied and a little disbelieving of Zero. His eyes turn to his side, smiling. The free left hand of him in contact with another hand.
"Yes, we're back together, Zero," says the person next to him impressed. The female voice is sharp, as well as the blue and concentrated look from her.
"It's taken so long... Zero mourns motionless with tears in his eyes. His posture calms and as if he had dropped it. "I'm sorry, Esdeath."
Esdeath beside him turns to him and bends down to embrace him tightly. Her head rests slightly on his shoulder. "Don't worry, from now on no one can separate us" she clarifies in a soft voice, which also sounds bitter.
He continues to return her embrace emotionally and blissfully. They lift their heads at the same time and approach each other for a silent kiss. Just before that, Zero suddenly feels a stab in his chest, which causes immense pain, causing him to fall to the floor with a painful expression on his face.
"W-Why... it was a-all... perfect..." Zero can whisper bitterly before he hits the ground. A piece of disappointment hidden in his voice.
Esdeath catches him before he makes contact with the bricks and looks into Zero's dying face with tears in her wide open eyes.
"Zero! Stand up, please!" she screams with a loud voice that perfectly reflects her shocked face. Disbelief and above all overstrain can also be heard from her.
"I-I... was not good... enough." Zero whimpers distraught and broken before closing his eyes and being enveloped in darkness.
…
Zero gets up jerkily and bumps his forehead against something hard, which falls off on impact. As he looks around he realizes that he is in the wooden hut and is stared at by most people. Either with interested eyes or with smiling faces.
"What's going on?!" Zero asks confusedly into the room. His confusion is clearly visible, as he doesn't try to hold it back either.
"Man, what have you been dreaming about, Zero?" he hears a voice close by. Slowly, Tatsumi rises from behind the back of the sofa with one hand on his nose. "I only touched you slightly."
"A dream..." Zero notes, thinking slowly. His hand rests on his slightly red forehead.
"Yes, you were just dreaming." he hears from Najenda. She sits in her usual place at the long wooden table with a grin on her face.
"But how!" Leone laughs meanwhile in a gloating and loud voice. "You smiled like a little baby!"
"That was the first time we saw you with such a peaceful smile. That's why we didn't wake you up." Akame clarifies in her usual friendly way.
"Except Tatsumi. He couldn't help himself at some point, so he had to wake you up." Mine informs him about Tatsumi. Her voice laughing and accusing at the same time.
"Hey! I just wanted to see if he's alright!" Tatsumi defends himself as he turns quickly towards Mine.
"I see." Zero replies to Mine and sits neatly on the sofa where he had slept until just now. His hand now gently against his chest to control the pain felt in the dream.
"But seriously, what were you dreaming about?" Leone asks with interest. Meanwhile she stands beside the sofa and leans on Tatumi's shoulder. "Do you have a girlfriend?" she giggles into her fist, which is placed in front of her mouth.
"I've never had people I love before," he clarifies without emotion, and doesn't even look at her. "And it stays that way."
Meanwhile the bright midday sun is high in the clear and blue sky. Zero and Lubbock stand back against back in a stony plateau and are encircled by a large pack of wolf monsters. They move around the pair and wait at a safe distance for an attack sign.
"Half, half?" asks Lubbock, leaving his focus on the wolves.
" Deal." answers Zero shortly, who also does not take his eyes off the creatures. The black grip of his blade is firmly in his right hand.
Zero storms straight ahead and cuts three monsters in half in no time. He is quickly surrounded by eight wolves, which jump at him at the same time. With a cold grin he crouches down, touches the ground with his open hand and a wall of fire rises up. The wolves cannot avoid it in flight and are consumed by the high blazing flames.
"Was that all?" Zero questions unimpressed and turns to Lubbock.
"Looks that way. A few have escaped," he responded calmly. Behind him lie several cut up and severed wolf bodies. "I believe that's all of the monsters in the area at last."
"Became boring in the end, to be honest."
"Hopefully Akame and Susanoo have finished cooking. Fighting makes you hungry," Lubbock exclaimed in a slightly dreamy and tired voice. His hands rest in his stomach area.
"All you think about is food..." Zero complains about Lubbock and his never-ending hunger.
"That's not true at all!" Lubbock defends himself insulted.
Zero and Lubbock walk together through a dense green forest towards their hut. Lubbock's arms are crossed behind his head, while Zero walks beside him disinterested and with an empty gaze.
"Hey, Zero!" it suddenly sounds from a loud and cheerful voice.
"Are you done already, Tatsumi?" Zero shouts to Tatsumi who is running to them. His voice with a little more emotion than before.
"Didn't you have to fight a bunch of monsters in the ravine?" Lubbock asks him in surprise.
"That was done quickly, after all Leone was there too," Tatsumi said happily with a wide smile on his face.
"Means you've continued to improve with Incursio," Zero notes as the three of them continue on. His light smile matches the joy of Tatsumi.
