Chapter 5: Light in the Dark Sky

My mood did not get better after the thorough trashing that Brock received. Not only could I not heal my Pokemon at the Pokemon Centre (There was an angry crowd gathering at the front of the Centre, holding signboard with a big cross on my face), I got chased out of the city by an angry mob that somehow caught me climbing out from my room to get my stuff.

My Pokemons were in no better mood as they were looking forward to a good rest after the gym battle. Since they could not rest, they took the second-best option which was to smash any wild Pokemon that were stupid enough to engage us in a fight and there were many stupid ones.

Pierce was the most vicious out of my 3 Pokemon as he actively looked for wild Pokemon to fight and he brought back many fainted Pokemon to see if any suited me (Nice Pokemon I have). His favourite targets were other Spearow in the area which might be because Pierce wanted to test his mettle against his own kind to prove he was the best Spearow.

Doom was the least vicious out of the 3 and only attacked when I was in the line of fire. He did not spare any Pokemon that tried to attack me and the lucky ones were turned to ash, the unlucky ones had to live with broken bones. I did not even feel sorry for them as the survival of the fittest was how one would survive in the wild.

Queen had the most fun in the whole group. She used her excellent vision to snipe Pokemon that were far away from us. For every Pokemon that she sniped, she watched them until they fainted before she did a victory dance. When she was looking for Pokemon to snipe, she would charge all her poison in one stinger and practice jabbing in the air to imitate the move poison jab and would fire this highly toxic move and her prey. I made a mental note that Queen was the most sadistic out of the 3 and I would use her against people I really hate.

After 2 hours walking through the forest, we arrived at Mt Moon, the place where Clefairy lived. I was not interested in catching a Clefairy as its species was notoriously hard to train and even harder to use in battle due to how playful they were, therefore, I decided to just rush through the cave and hopefully reached Cerulean City by nightfall as I knew that I was one day ahead of Ash who would battle Team Rocket at Mt Moon.

Something strange that I noticed about the anime was how on earth did the stupid trio of Team Rocket managed to set up lanterns in the entire Mt Moon within a day (I knew that because the Mt Moon I was currently walking through was so dark I had to ask Doom to use ember to light up my path). I highly suspected that they had called for help from other Team Rocket Grunts and I wanted to find out who was the mysterious person who cleared the path for Ash as I remembered that Ash did not face any other person other than the trio (maybe it was me).

That was the reason I told myself, the other reason was robbing the grunts would give me a lot of money to buy tm and other necessity in the future and the experience they gave to my Pokemon were very valuable as well.

With that merry thought, we swept through the entire Mt Moon with no issues, well other than a slight mishap on Pierce's part. After beating a flock of Zubat, Pierce began to evolve and became a Fearow. Pierce was bigger than other Fearow for some reason (maybe because of the food I gave it), he 1.8m tall, much taller than me and his beak had grown longer and sharper. Funny thing was he gotten so big that he knocked his head on the ceiling and started to groan in pain. That gave our party a good laugh in a while and I returned Pierce back to his ball much to his displeasure but he understood that he had no choice as he was not able to move around and was just a big target for wild Pokemon.

Finally, after 3 hours of fighting Zubat (there were countless) and Geodude (who attacked because we accidentally stepped on them), we finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel (not figuratively).

I stretched my body as I walked out of the cave but before I could even react, something sharp was shot straight at me and the only reason why I was alive was because Doom used dark pulse and blew the object away.

"Why the hell do everyone attack me these days?" I grumbled as I looked around warily for the attacker and I released Pierce to give an aerial scan of the vicinity.

All of a sudden, the surrounding turned cold, my Pokemon were all incapacitated at once and I felt something cold pressed on my neck

"Answer me before I slit you neck. Are you part of Team Rocket?" A seductively dangerous voice whispered into my ears, causing a literal shiver up my spine.

"No lady. You can check my Pokedex if you do not believe me. Its in the front compartment of my bag." I claimed while shivering due to the cold, not fear.

The lady let go of me but that did not mean that I was safe, a Cloyster pointed its sharp horn my neck to prevent me from moving. I guessed it was what fired the object at me.

The lady's laughter was heard after the sound of her rummaging my bag and she ordered for Cloyster to release me. She apologised for mistaking me as a Team Rocket personnel because I was brooding and my Pokemon were the not so friendly type. She informed me that my Pokemon were all asleep and would wake up in 15 minutes time so I returned all of my Pokemon as there was no point in putting them in harm's way.

I turned to face her and gasped at who she was. The lady had red hair, wore round glasses and had ice Pokemon as her speciality from what I could tell. There was only one person who fit all the above description, she was none other than the Elite 4 Lorelei.

Despite knowing that I was a MC, she still apologised for her mistakes and even asked what made me depressed till the point I looked like someone just killed my dog. I explained to her my circumstances and she looked at me not in pity but with respect. She told me that it was admirable for me to want to change the world to allow MC to have equal standing as the rest of the population and would be willing to assist me.

I hesitated to accept her help and asked her why she would be willing to help a MC like me as there were no benefits in doing so. She explained to me that she heard me talking to my Pokemon in the cave and knew that I had the ability to talk to Pokemon. Furthermore, she told me in a hush voice that all the Elite 4 had an ability, hers for example was to bring down the temperature of the environment. With that reasoning, I chose to accept her aid if necessary, as one Elite 4 ally was worth more than the 8 Gym Leaders combined.

I asked her why she was waiting for Team Rocket and she told me that there was a tip off that they were planning to raid Mt Moon tomorrow but she came one day earlier to scout the place and to catch any Team Rocket members but caught me instead. I asked for her permission whether I could join in the raid tomorrow which she gave an ok as she saw in my eyes that I would come anyways.

She informed me that the time for the raid would be 4pm and the location would be the entrance of the cave. I nodded my head in thanks and continued to make my way to Cerulean City which was only a 30-minute walk away.

I ordered a takeaway for my dinner and went to the battlefield behind the Pokemon Centre to release my Pokemon after I registered a room (a single room as usual). Upon their release, they looked around in confusion and I explained to them what happened outside the cave. Doom looked upset that he failed to protect me, despite being the closest to me. Queen looked disappointed in herself that she lost without knowing it and Pierce seemed relieved that we were all alive. I assured them that it was not their fault and gave them their dinner to eat.

While we were eating, Pierce realised something peculiar about the place that we were eating. Pierce complained that there was no aircon and questioned why we were not eating in the Pokemon Centre like usual. Everyone gave him a deadpanned look for the stupid question but he still did not understand the rationale. Queen had to patiently explained to him that his size would scare the people in the Pokemon Centre and we would be chased out. Pierce brightened in realisation and continued to eat his food without further complains.

After dinner, I returned all of them except Doom who stated that he should be outside his Pokeball to protect me and went back to my room and sleep.

The next morning, I could not lift myself off the bed. I opened my eyes and found the reason to my problem, Doom's head was placed on my stomach as it fell asleep, leaning on the bed. Sensing that I was awake, Doom sat upright and claimed that he was never asleep and was keeping guard the entire night. I petted his head in thanks as we went down to the cafeteria to collect breakfast for the rest of the gang.

Once breakfast was done, I handed my Pokemon over to Nurse Joy for their well-deserved check-up and I was informed to collect them later. While waiting for the check up to be completed, I visited the Pokemart to stock up on my potions and afterwards, went to the Cerulean Gym to register for a gym battle. Due to the high demand of challenges (possibly because the gym leaders were giving out free badges), I was scheduled to battle 3 days later right before noon. With everything settled, I headed back to the Pokemon Centre and collected my Pokemon, before heading to Mt Moon.

I arrived at the meeting location 3 hours earlier than the allocated time so I could find a good place to ambush the grunts. I climbed on the tree that was the closest to the cave with Houndoom beside me and Queen hiding within the tree leaves. Pierce was perching on the opposite tree as he was too big to fit in with us and he started to complained at why was he so big.

1 hour later, Lorelei arrived at the location and was surprised to see my team was ready. She gave me an outline of what the mission was supposed to be. We were supposed to intercept any grunts that escaped through the tunnel and preferably to catch them alive. I asked whether it was alright to kill them and she said that as long as one was alive, she would be ok with killing. From the tone of her voice, I could sense her doubt of whether I would be able to kill. After the briefing session, she teleported to her hiding spot with the help of Jinx.

Waiting was the worst part about ambushing someone. We sat at the same spot for nearly 6 hours and there was still no sight of the enemy. Pierce was already asleep due to pure boredom. Do you know what was even worse than waiting? The moment I tried to open my lunch box to have dinner, Lorelei telepathically informed me, using her Jinx, that a group of 8 Team Rocket Grunts were running out of the cave. I cursed at the poor timing and threw a branch to wake Pierce up.

The moment we saw human figures emerging from the cave, we began our attack before they even managed to release their Pokeballs. Doom launched a flamethrower attack that set some of them ablaze while Queen fired her poison stings as those who were not on fire, those that got hit by her fell on the floor and started to groan in pain as the poison took effect. Pierce did not have the change to test his evolution form as all the grunts were seemingly down. I made a mental headcount of the number on the floor and realised that the number did not tally, there was only 7 of them.

I relayed the information to my Pokemon as they geared up to search up for the last guy. Turned out that we did not even have to look as he walked out of the cave with a Weezing and Golbat by his side.

"Good thing that I sent my Grunts out first. Never did I expect an ambush. Why don't you come down from where you are hiding so I can squash you like a bug?" The man said in a gruff and annoyed voice.

I did not dignify him with a response and signalled to Pierce for an attack. Pierce's wings glowed silver as he dived towards the man. Golbat intercepted the attack with its wing attack and the fight was even between the 2. Doom jumped off the tree and launched a flamethrower at Weezing which was countered by sludge spitting out of its mouth.

The man stood there confidently as he watched the fight without giving any instructions to his Pokemon, neither did I as I did not want to give away my location. Queen, being the smartest in the group, knew that she was almost useless in the fight as both of the man's Pokemon were poison type but she knew how to play her part well. She flew from tree to tree to fire poison sting at both Golbat and Weezing to distract them from Pierce and Doom respectively, to make things better, the man did not even realise that someone was firing poison sting and he was also hit by Queen, causing him to collapse. Knowing that he could survive up to 30 minutes without the antidote, I ignored him and focus more on the battle to give instructions if necessary.

My worries were unfounded as with the 2 opposing Pokemon distracted by the poisoin sting, they were soundly defeated by my Pokemon. Doom landed a clean hit on Weezing using dark pulse, blasting Weezing up into the sky, knowing that it was defeated, it used explosion as a last-ditch effort to kill us but Doom sent it high enough for us not to feel any impact. Pierce killed off Golbat by using drill peck and pierced through Golbat's body. Seeing that his opponent had fallen, Pierce squawked in victory.

I climbed down the tree and gave the man an antidote after I tied him up with a rope that I bought earlier today. Upon seeing him closed up, I realised who he was. He was one of Team Rocket's admin, Archer, which was really obvious if you noticed his blue hair. I guessed he probably brought his weaker team, not expecting to face an Elite 4 or a trainer liked me.

I messaged Lorelei to inform her that I had cleaned up the trash and no sooner did I messaged her, she teleported beside me with a fat lady floating above Jinx. For thoe of you who do not play the game, that person (read bitch) was Ariana, also one of Team Rocket Admin. Lorelei was surprised to see that I killed all of them except the admin and I even managed to identify and capture the admin alive for questioning.

She thanked me for the hard work and tied both of the admins up for easier transportation.

"I will be going back to the Plateau to interrogate these two. Here, a thank you gift from me. If you need help, just call me. Bye and thank you once again." She placed a Pokeball in my hand and teleported away.

I looked up at the full moon and despite the bodies that were surrounding me, I felt my mood lightened up as I realised that I had a strong ally and not league members were douchebags that discriminated against MC. Best of all, I earned quite a hefty sum of money from the grunts. With a happier mood, we headed back to the Pokemon Centre to get a well-deserved rest.
