Chapter 5: The Falcon and the Man with the Indomitable Luck
Yuma was running down the street as Kotori and I chased after him.
"I'm gonna bring it to 'em' in top form today!" Yuma said as he leapt into the air.
"Wait up, Yuma!" Kotori called after him, starting to slow a bit.
"Alright, let's fight one more time today!"
"And I probably need to figure out a lodging situation before it gets to late…" I muttered to myself.
"Huh, you say something Kiryu?" Kotori asks from beside me.
"Nothing important, just thinking to myself." I say shaking my head before a police car goes zooming by, siren blazing. I smiled with a bit of nostalgia at the sound.
"Wonder what's going on?" Kotori asks rhetorically.
I gave a noncommittal shrug.
"You shouldn't let your guard down, The opponent's you'll face next all won the first round." Astral warns Yuma.
"I know, But dueling means fighting against strong Gu….." Yuma replies energetically to Astral before his D-Gazer phone interrupts him.
Yuma stops running and picks it up, "S-Sis?" he asks.
"Yuma, where are you now?" Akari asks him.
"Somewhere near the train station." Yuma replies.
Kotori and I come up behind Yuma as Kotori clenches her chest with her fist trying to catch her breath.
I gently rubbed Kotori's back to help her out.
Kotori gave me a gentle smile of thanks.
"Who's this?" Akari asks over the phone.
Realizing she's most likely talking about me, I walked up closer behind Yuma.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Kiryu Kurosaki." I introduced myself.
"Pleasure to meet you as well Kiryu, I hope my little brother hasn't caused too much trouble." Akari says.
I smirked, "Maybe a little stubborn and hard headed, but no problems."
"Oi." Yuma says with a twitch in his eyes."
Akari smirks at that before turning serious, "Anyhow, Yuma I need you to do me a favor."
"A favor?" Yuma asks.
"This man should be waiting for me in front of the train station, Catch him for me." Akari orders Yuma as she shows a picture of Charlie.
"Who the heck is that old guy?" Yuma asks before dismissively stating, "I'm very busy right now, Can't you go yourself?".
"I'm busy right now too, you know!" Akari tells him, as the D-Gazer switches to show her making some onigiri… was that right? Ahh whatever basically she was making rice balls either that or some jelly filled donuts.
"Huh." Yuma says in disbelief.
"Just get going already!" Akari snaps at Yuma.
"YES!" Yuma shrieks, going into a salute pose.
"Don't worry, I'll help him out." I told Akari.
"Thank's Kiryu, Don't you dare let him get away until I get there, understood Yuma?!" Akari says.
"Sis is using me again!" Yuma moans.
"Who is this guy?" Kotori asks.
"I don't know, but If I don't go, I feel like something bad's gonna happen to me!" Yuma panics.
A loud crowd yelling excitedly caught our attention.
"A Duel?" Yuma asks.
I nodded, "Sounds like it, shall we check it out?"
The three of us walked closer to the crowd and I recognized who one of the duelists was.
"Nasch." I muttered under my breath at the hidden king, while staying back in the crowd.
"Shark." Yuma says surprise as Shark finishes off his opponent using Aero Shark to win.
"4000 to 0" "You gotta be kidding me" Various onlookers stated.
"Shark is amazing alright!" Yuma says in awe before running up to him calling his name.
"Yuma?" Shark asks, seeing his friend.
"So you did enter the WDC." Yuma says happily that his friend/rival is in the tournament.
"I just entered to take care of a situation." Shark says casually.
"Situation?" Yuma asks.
"When I fulfill my purpose, I'll withdraw from this tournament!" Shark tells him, his eyes opening as I see the anger blazing in his eye.
"A-And what is that?" Yuma asks concerned.
"The guy I once lost to in the National Championship has appeared, He… IV, lured me into his trap!" Shark explains before clenching his fist, "He even got innocent people involved!"
"IV?" Yuma asks.
"I'll pay him back, Yuma don't get involved with me!" Shark tells him.
"Shark…" Yuma says worriedly as he holds his hand out after him.
I slipped out from the crowd and walked closer to Kotori and Yuma, "Friend of yours, I asked."
"Yeah..." Yuma says somberly.
I put a hand on his shoulder, "Don't worry Yuma no matter how far he strays or falls as his friend, he will count on you to be there to bring him back." I told him.
Yuma smiles a bit more happily than before, "You're right, thanks Kiryu."
"Now let's go take care of your sister's task for us." I said.
Yuma nodded and the three of us headed to the Train Station, we spit up to look around.
"That Shark…What in the world happened?" Yuma muttered standing in place.
Kotori and I were looking around for Charlie, I saw a sign that said DoDoDo Donuts which made me chuckle, "Note to self, try some of those later." I noted to myself.
"Yuma, Kiryu." Kotori calls out to us.
I walked over to her, and we went back over to Yuma who was just standing there.
"Hey,Yuma!" Kotori calls out to him getting no response.
I snapped my finger in Yuma's face, breaking him out of his trance.
"Huh." Yuma blinks.
"He's over there." Kotori says pointing.
We all turned to see Charlie sitting on a bench.
"Hey, Old Man!" Yuma says running up to him.
Charlie looks up at Yuma, his eyes narrowing at being called an old man.
"I'm Yuma Tsukumo." Yuma introduces himself.
"Tsukumo?" Charlie asks, before looking closer at him, "You…"
"His sister asked us to capture you." I said thumbing at Yuma.
"Sister…" Charlie asks, the gears slowly beginning to connect in his head.
"Yeah, Big Sis Akari did ask us that." Yuma huffs.
"So you're Kazuma's son..." Charlie comments before giving a laugh, "Wanting you to capture me, that sounds like Akari all right."
"That's right, I'm really busy with the Duel Carnival" Yuma huffs
"You're in the Duel Carnival?" Charlie asks.
"We both are." I tell him, putting my hand on Yuma's shoulder.
"In that case, would one of you care to Duel me?" Charlie asks us, holding up a card.
I briefly fingered my deck. It would be interesting to see which was stronger, my strength or Number 7's Luck.
"Duel?" Yuma asks.
"Yeah, I just wanna test this card's luck." Charlie tells us.
"Hey, you in the hat over there!" A voice calls out, the four.. Or I guess five of us counting Astral turned to the source.
"You look to be a Duelist, then bet your Heart Piece and Duel me" A guy says coming up to us. He kinda looked like some sort of Mega Evolved Version of Strong Ishijima.
"Interesting." Charlies says.
"You're in the Duel Carnival?" Yuma asks.
"Nope, But Yuma, I'll let you all witness a rare kind of Duel in this place." Charlie says mysteriously.
I smirked, interested to see Lucky Straight's Power in real life.
"I accept your challenge, and if I lose you'll get one of Yuma's Heart Pieces." Charlies states.
Ehh…" Yuma says in shock.
"DUEL!" Charlie and Mega Strong as I decided to call him. Yelled out.
Charlie started out first and ended with two set cards, Mega Strong then took his turn and ended up with three XYZ monsters on his field and attacked Charlie .
"Hey Charlie, Why are you betting my Heart Piece without my permission? What if my Heart Piece is taken?!" Yuma yells in a panic.
"I know, stop panicking." Charlie says confidently.
"But…" Yuma pouts, before pointing at the opponent, "There are three Xyz Monsters on his field, What are you going to do?!"
I looked at the field containing Daigusto Phoenix, Thunder End Dragon and Kachi Kochi Dragon.
"Mega Strong is probably Lucky… or perhaps Unlucky that he didn't face me." I muttered with a smirk brushing my finger against my deck as I heard Rise Falcon screech in the back of my mind.
"And there's a 3900 gap between the Life of the Duelists." Astral comments.
"I know right, There's absolutely no chance for a reversal!" Yuma panics, "I'm so stupid!" he bemoans
"Remember Yuma, as long as 1 Life Point remains, you have a 1% chance to win, it is up to you as a duelist to turn that 1% chance into a 1000% chance." I say giving the typical sage advice
"Life is carnival!" Charlie says his catchphrase, "So long as the sun remains as one, my luck will never run out!" he states.
"Life is carnival?" Astral mutters.
"What's this, he still thinks he can win?" Yuma says in disbelief.
Charlie started his turn using Reload to redraw his hand, before pretending he drew badly.
"That's what I've been saying all this time!" Yuma says.
I whacked Yuma on the head, "Calm down, he's just putting on an act." I told him.
"An act?" Yuma says confused.
Charlie used the Magic Card Triple Ace to Summon three Dice Levelers.
"They got 100 Attack Points, So you finally give up the Duel?" Mega Strong comments.
"Nope, in fact I'm quite confident." Charlie replies, as three dice appeared in his hand.
"Dice?" Kotori mutters.
"What the heck is he doing?" Yuma groans.
"I wonder who would win in a luck duel between him or Jonochi." I offhandedly ask myself.
"Life is Carnival!" Charlie shouted again, Using each Dice Leveler's effect to roll a dice Charlie rolled three Sixes.
"All of them are six!" Yuma says in shock.
"The probability of three dice all being six is 1/216" Astral says calculating the probability in awe.
Activating their effects, all three Dice Levelers became Level Seven.
"There are three Level Seven Monsters on his field." Astral mutters in realization.
"Here it comes, I can feel the wind of strong luck blowing!" Charlie says before using his Monsters to Xyz Summon Number 7 Lucky Straight.
"Isn't that…." Kotori begins.
"It's a Number, like Anna had." I finished.
"So he's a Numbers User?" Yuma questions.
"Lucky Seven." Lucky Straight 'Stated'
Charlie next used Dream Dice to roll a fourth dice,if it landed on a six it would cause the opponent's monster's ATK to drop to 0.
"What?!" Mega Strong gasps out as a fourth six lands.
"Six, he got six again!" Yuma says in shock
"Bingo!" Charlie said as his card's effect was resolved.
"Until now, the odds of getting five consecutive sixes were 1/1296!" Astral says in disbelief.
"Go, Lucky Straight!" Charlie orders his Number to attack.
"I will take damage, but it'll only be a mere 700!" Mega Strong says confidently.
"Boy are you wrong." Charlie tells him before using Lucky Straigh's effect to toss a fifth dice allowing him to multiply Lucky Straight's ATK by the rolled amount.
"Here's the final blow, kindly accept my good luck!" Charlie says as a fifth Six was rolled raising Lucky Straight up to 4200 ATK.
"Impossible!" Mega Strong says in horror as he was thrown back from the after shock of his monster's destruction and his life hit 0..
"I can't believe it, he brought a huge reversal in one turn!" Yuma says taking off his D-Gazer.
"That card's power is something else." I commented.
"Indeed, that isn't your average Dueling, What strong luck he has until now the odds of getting that many consecutive sixes was 1/1776" Astral observes.
"You must be cheating, there's no way all of them were sixes!" Mega Strong says in sore loser talk.
Charlie just laughs before a spotlight shines on him.
"What's happening?" Kotori asks as the three of us look up at the helicopter and several dozen police cards surround the area.
"Charlie McCoy, You are completely surrounded, give up and surrender!" An Officer yells.
"Whoops, looks like I overdid it a bit." Charlie says cooly.
"Put both of your hands on your head, Hurry up and abide!" The officer yells again.
"Yeah, Yeah!" Charlie says mockingly while raising his hands and putting them behind his head, "But I told you before, You can't possibly catch me…. As long as I have this card, that is" he mutters holding Lucky Straight behind his head.
"Be careful everyone, I'm about to absorb all of your luck!" Charlie calls out as a twister whips up around him.
Kotori cries out as she and Yuma shield their faces, I kept my eye on Charlie as my hair and coattails whipped in the wind.
Yuma's deck box popped open and a card flew out.
"What, The Numbers!" Astral cries out.
"My Cards!" Various Duelists cry out as their cards were whipped away, unfortunately my luck was the same as theirs and my deck box popped open and one card flew out as well.
"ANNA!" I cried out, reaching futilely at the card taken away.
"Yuma." Astral says getting his attention.
We all look up and see the DoDoDo Donuts sign begin to fall.
"I suggest we all run now." I stated.
Everyone began to flee in a panic.
"What are you going, Run!" Yuma yells at Charlie who was still standing in the same spot.
The sign seemingly crushes Charlie making everyone else gasp in shock and horror.
"There he is…" I commented as all the stolen cards gathered into his hand.
"Did ya see that, I have the strongest luck." Charlie says, "That's what I've been saying, I will absorb your luck, I told you to be careful! Life is Carnival, So long as the sun remains as one, my luck will never run out!"
I noticed Astral staring intently at Charlie.
"Yuma, say sorry to your sister for me, Peace!" Charlie says before running off.
Yuma stands there blinking for a bit.
"Give me back my important card." I called out running after Charlie to get back the card I got from Anna.
Yuma snaps into realization, "Give me back my cards you bastard!" he yells running after him as well.
"Yuma, Kiryu!" Kotori calls after us.
Akari popped up in front of us, making Yuma and I stop our movement.
"What in the world is causing all this commotion?" Akari asks, taking off her helmet.
"Sis!" Yuma says as Kotori comes up to us.
"Where's that guy?" Akari asks.
"He just ran off, taking something important to me." I said clenching my fist.
"Yuma, you were supposed to catch him!" Akari yells at her brother.
"I'm Sorry Sis!" Yuma yells in a panic
I took a breath to calm my budding rage.
"You okay, Kiryu." Kotori asks, placing her hand on my arm.
That helped calm me down a bit, "I'm fine, Thanks Kotori." I tell her with a confident smile.
Kotori smiles back in return.
I turned back to see Akari still scolding Yuma.
I clapped my hands together, getting their attention, "Let's all go somewhere more calm and then we will explain what happened, sound fair?" I asked.
Akari nods, "I know a good place, follow me."
Our Quintet went to a nearby park and we explained everything to Akari and she explained to us about the theft from the gallery..
"So Charlie really was behind all this." Akari mutters, taking everything in as police cars continue to zoom about.
"But that damn guy…. I even brought the motorcycle and some rice balls with me." Akari Yells out before going soft spoken.
'Ahh a teenage girl with a crush.' I thought with a smirk.
"So the card he used was stolen from the gallery?" Yuma asks for clarification.
"Most likely." Akari agrees before telling us about the rumors surrounding the card, "Supposedly, whoever owns that card will be granted super luck. Anyone who's owned this card in the past became instant millionaires or famous stars. It's like a card that will guide you to the lucky path"
"Amazing." Kotori says in awe.
"Then who is that Charlie guy anyway?" Yuma asks Akari.
"He was Dad's classmate back in university." Akari tells her brother.
I sort of tuned out Akari's story as it seemed like something that was more personal to her and Yuma.
"Just when I started thinking it's been a while since I last saw him, he starts making such a mess of things." Akari grumbles as she gets back onto her Bike, "Listen, Yuma you better find him!"
"Of course, that guy has my cards after all!" Yuma responds confidently.
The two siblings high five each other, "Bring it to 'im!" They tell each other.
I smiled at their interaction as Akari drove off.
"Alright, let's get going, team." I said.
"Do we have any clues?" Astral asks making Yuma look over at him, "We won't find him searching blindly in the dark." he states
"Then what should we do?" Yuma asks him.
I leaned against the tree beside us, "Maybe that 'Life is Carnival' phrase he kept spouting is a clue of some sort." I fake mused trying to give Astral the clue he needed.
"Life is carnival, I do remember seeing that phrase somewhere." Astral comments.
"Really, Where was it at?!" Yuma yells in shock.
"At 86th street, Area B." Astral calmly tells him.
Yuma takes off running.
"Oi, Yuma!" Kotori yells in surprise.
"Wait up." I called out as the two of us chased after him and Astral.
As we ran after Yuma, I noticed Yuma and Astral had intense looks on their faces, almost as if they were having a mental conversation between the two of them as we ran.
As we crossed a bridge we noticed several police cars rushing past, we stopped and looked at where they were going.
"Isn't that the direction towards B Area?" Kotori asks.
"Yeah, that's where he most likely is." Yuma says.
"Let's hurry." I stated and the three of us continued running.

When we arrived at the Train Station the place was packed with people and Four of us ran/floated by the crowd and the barricades, ignoring the security yelling out at us as a lightning bolt struck the train.
"No matter how many of you there are, you can't stop me!" Charlie tells the knocked down Heartland Police as Yuma, Astral, Kotori and I slipped into the train behind Charlie.
"Careful." I tell Kotori keeping her steady as the Monorails sudden lurch and movement knocked her off balance a bit.
"Thanks again, Kiryu." Kotori says gratefully.
"Sis, I found him. He's currently on the monorail!" Yuma calls out getting Charlie's attention as he calls Akari on his D-Gazer.
"I can't believe you actually found me, but that's Kazuma's son for you." Charlie says impressed.
"Cut the smalltalk, gimme back my cards!" Yuma yells.
"Mine as well." I snap out.
"Alright, calm down!" Charlie says calmly, "This monorail is currently not being controlled by the main quarter, in other words we are headed directly to their location. What do you think, care to have a Duel with me before we reach the station?" He challenges Yuma.
"A Duel?" Yuma questions.
"If you win, I'll give you all the cards back." Charlie proposes.
"Yuma, we have to recollect the Numbers." Astral says coming up beside him.
"All right, Let's Duel!" Yuma accepts the challenge.
"Let's take this somewhere more open." Charlie says as he opens the roof hatch and climbs out.
"Alright, here I go." Yuma says going to climb out after Charlie.
"Wait Yuma." Kotori says, grabbing onto his jacket.
"What's wrong Kotori?" Yuma asks.
"Do you two really need to go up on the roof to duel? We're moving at high speeds, it's too dangerous." Kotori says in concern.
"It'll be alright, I'm gonna bring it to 'im after all" Yuma says confidently, before jumping out onto the roof.
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on him." I told Kotori as I jumped up and landed on the roof, the winds of the speeding train whipping my hair around as I stood beside Yuma.
"You ready, Yuma?" Charlie asks the young Tsukumo boy.
"Yeah!" Yuma says, throwing his Duel Disk up, "Duel Disk - Set!" "D-Gazer - Set!" he calls out activating his equipment, "Duel Target, locked on!"
'AR Vision - Link established.' The computer stated as all our D-Gazers/Tattoo's were linked up to the duel.
"DUEL!" Charlie and Yuma called out. (Charlie: 4000) (Yuma:4000)
"Is this really the time to be dueling?" Kotori asks.
"You're so loud, who cares about the time and location?!" Yuma moans.
"But if this train is really not being operated, who's controlling the breaks?!" Kotori asks.
I blinked at what Kotori said…. Wait a minute
"Who cares who's controlling the….."Yuma says before realizing what Kotori said, "Breaks?!"
I mentally slapped myself at that, "Damn you Lanley!" I cursed out as the train accelerated out of control.
"Yuma!" I said grasping his wrist to prevent him flying off the edge as he almost lost his balance.
"Whew, Thanks Kiryu." Yuma says.
"Don't be afraid, Yuma! Life is Carnival, everything is based on luck! Let's enjoy this Duel" Charlie tells him.
I walked back over to stand near Kotori as I watched the duel.
"Alright Yuma, Let our Carnival begin!" Charlie says.
"Gotcha, here I come! My turn, draw!" Yuma says drawing for his turn.
"I'll set a Monster in face-down Defense Position, and set one more card face-down ending my turn!" Yuma says setting a Monster and card in his Spell/Trap card zone.
"My turn, draw!" Charlie says drawing for his turn before playing his first card, "I activate the Continuous Magic, Take a Chance!"
"Let's start out small. Let me test my luck a bit! This card allows me to toss a die once per turn, and if I tossed a six, my current Life will increase five times! However, if I get another value, my Life will return to the value prior to activation!" Charlie explains as a dice appears in his hand.
"As if you'll get a six that easily!" Yuma scoffs.
"Don't be overconfident, Yuma." I scolded him.
"Kiryu is right Yuma, your opponent did manage to roll five consecutive sixes in the previous Duel. The odds he will roll the next one is 1/46656." Astral tells Yuma.
"Behold." Charlie says holding up the dice.
"It's definitely impossible!" Yuma says, gritting his teeth, a bit of sweat on his cheek.
"Here we go!" Charlie says, throwing the dice.
As the dice hit the peak of the throw, I briefly saw Lucky Straight's sigil flash behind the dice, before it landed face up on six.
"S-Six?! He got it again?!" Yuma says in disbelief.
"Five times 4000 is 20000!" Charlie stated as his spell card took effect. (Charlie: 4000 - 20000)
Yuma gritted his teeth in frustration.
"So long as the sun is round, my luck won't end!" Charlie said again, making a finger gun gesture at Yuma.
"Shut up! The sun set a long time ago, darn it!" Yuma snaps in frustration.
"Right, which means nothing can stop my fortune." Charlie says confidently, "I Summon Majestic Jester!" he says summoning his monster. (Majestic Jester, Level 1, 0 ATK)
"I attack the Monster in face-down Defense Position with Majestic Jester!" Charlie says, ordering his monster to attack.
"He attacked with a zero Attack Power Monster?!" Yuma asked in shock.
"Desperate Mime!" Charlie called out as Majestic Jester unleashed a breath attack on Yuma's set monster which flipped over to reveal Gogogo Golem. (Gogogo Golem, Level 4, 1500 ATK)
"Gogogo Golem's DEF is 1500. You're the one who's taking damage!" Yuma tells Charlie confidently.
"What a pity, Yuma. I activate the effect of Majestic Jester!" Charlie replies as a dice materialized and he grasped it in his hand..
"More Dice?!" Yuma yells in shock.
"Allow me to utilize this extraordinary luck to its fullest!" Charlie says cooly, "When Majestic Jester declares an attack, if I tossed a six, it destroys a Monster my opponent controls. If I get any other value, then this card is destroyed and Majestic Jester says his goodbyes." he explains as Majestic Jester makes a face of shock and horror.
I crossed my arms observing Majestic Jester, "How did people end up forgetting that Duel Monsters have Souls, clearly they act far beyond the most complex computer program could work." I mused semi aloud.
"Duel monster Souls?" Kotori asks from beside me
I gave a dismissive wave, "It's not important right now."
Kotori just hums as we focus back on the duel.
"The probability of another consecutive six is 1/129936" Astral states.
"L-Like heck he will!" Yuma says in denial.
"Here I come!" Charlie says throwing the dice as Majestic Jester kicked the Dice it was standing on.
Number 7's Sigil flashed as a Six landed on the dice.
"It can't be!" Astral says in shock.
"Impossible!" Yuma gaps.
"Bingo! I destroy Gogogo Golem!" Charlie says as Majestic Dealer spins around and kicks it's dice at Gogogo Golem destroying it. "I set one card, and end my turn!" he says as the set card materialized.
The train took a corner at high speed, making the vehicle shudder violently and causing Yuma and Kotori to yell out. To be fair, if Shun's calm and collective nature wasn't subconsciously influencing me I would probably be screaming as well.
"If this continues, we will…" Kotori sasy in worry.
I sat down cross legged beside her, "Don't worry, if things get too dangerous I promise I'll step in."
Kotori gives me a look and opens her mouth to speak.
"Fret not! We're standing next to the world's luckiest good luck charm, after all!" Charlie says cockily.
"My turn, draw!" Yuma says drawing for his turn. "I Summon Gagaga Magician!" he says summoning the magician. (Gagaga Magician, Level 4,1500)
"If your gonna win using luck, then in that case, I'll win with luck as well!" Yuma says holding up a card, "I activate the Magic Card, Monster Slot!" A slot machine appears on his field.
"I Banish one Monster in my Graveyard who has the same level as Gagaga Magician!" Yuma says as the slots began to spin and the first slot stopped on Gagaga Magician, then the second slot stopped on Gogogo Golem. "And the card allows me to draw one card from my deck, if the drawn Monster has the same level as those 2 Monsters, I can special summon it to my field!" he explains.
"But if it doesn't match, the drawn Monster and targeted card will be Banished, You're taking too many risks!" Astral warns
"You are so annoying!" Yuma groans out, "If I get it, I'll have enough materials for a Rank 4 Xyz Summon!" he says.
"Yuma, remember when we first met Charlie he said that he was going to absorb everyone's luck!" I warned him.
"Your friend is right, Yuma. I already absorbed your luck, so there's nothing left for you to use!" Charlie states.
"Gimme a break!" Yuma protests, "C'mon, my good fortune! Draw!" he says to his deck as he draws his card.
Yuma yells in shock as the third monster in the slot is showing Gagaga Girl, "No way" he says as Gagaga Magician and Gagaga Girl were banished.
"I already told you! You can't surpass my luck!" Charlie says with a laugh.
"Darn! I end my turn!" Yuma growls.
"If this continues, our chances of defeating him will trickle down to zero percent." Astral states.
"Say what?! What the heck are you going on about?!" Yuma yells out.
"Don't you get it, Yuma? The luck attached to my cards is absolute. Your father, Kazuma was once my idol who greatly inspired me. I used to think he had everything." Charlie explains, "But there was one thing he lacked, and that was luck."
"What?" Yuma asks.
"If only he had slightly better luck.." Charlie laments tipping his hat down.
"It had nothing to do with luck!" Yuma says angrily.
"There are some critical moments in a person's life where they can't afford to lose." Charlie mutters softly, "That's right, even if it means they have to win by relying on luck!" he says looking up.
Yuma gasps softly at that.
"Here I come! My turn, draw!" Charlie says drawing for his turn, "Alright here goes! The Continuous Magic, Take a Chance! If I hit the jackpot my life will increase 5 fold" he says activating his spell card once more throwing the dice.
"It won't come again!" Yuma procrastinates.
Just to prove Yuma wrong, the dice lands on six.
"A-Again?" Yuma says in disbelief.
"He rolled a six!" Kotori mutters.
"So long as he has the Number's influence he can always roll the dice in his favor." I commented.
"LIFE IS CARNIVAL!" Charlie shouted out, "Now my Life is 100000!" he said as his life increased Quintet fold.(Charlie: 20000 - 100000)
"10000 Life?! How can we ever beat that Life?" Yuma says in shock and disbelief.
"I activate the Magic Card, Release Change!" Charlie says playing his next card, "By releasing one Monster on my field, I can Special Summon one Monster with the same level! I release the Level One Majestic Jester, and Special Summon Dice Leveler with the same level!" he says destroying Majestic Jester as Dice Leveler takes its place. (Dice Leveler, Level 1,100 ATK)
"It's beginning." I muttered knowing the Number was about to come.
"Then I activate the Magic Card, Monster Slot!" Charlie says activating the Spell Yuma just failed to use.
"Damn! It's the same as me!" Yuma comments.
"That's right. What will happen if I do it?" Charlie rhetorically states.
Monster slot began to spin.
"I target the Level one Dice Leveler." Charlie said as the first slot stopped on Dice Leveler, "Next I Banish the Level One Majestic Jester from my Graveyard!" he says as the second slot stops on Majestic Jester. "Now, if I draw a Level One Monster, I can Special Summon that Monster!" he says drawing his card, the third slot slows down briefly showing dice jar before it stops on Dice Leveler.
"He got it!" Kotori says in awe.
"Alright, here it comes! I Special Summon Dice Leveler." Charlie says summoning the drawn monster. (Dice Leveler, Level 1, 100 ATK)
"You gotta be kidding me!" Yuma protests in disbelief.
"Next, I Normal Summon the third Dice Leveler." Charlie says summoning the third one. (Dice Leveler, Level 1, 100 ATK)
"We're in trouble, Yuma!" Astral comments.
Yuma looks at Astral.
"Dice Leveler can raise its Level according to the tossed value until the End Phase!" Charlie says as three dice materialize in his hand, "Please give me three sixes!" he asks the dice before throwing them.
"The odds of getting three sixes is 1/362790000!: Astral states and he and Yuma stare at the slowly falling dice hoping for a roll in their favor.
"Stop it! I don't want to hear that!" Yuma yells in panic covering his ears.
"Let's finish this once and for all!" Charlie says as the dice landed, all facing up on six. "There it is!" he cheers
"Something so unreal… actually happened." Yuma says falling to his hands and knees in shock.
"The level of all three Dice Levelers goes up from one to seven!" Charlie says as his three dice rolls take effect. (Dice Leveler: Level 1 - Level 7) x 3
"Here it comes." I said, my eyes narrowing intently.
"I Overlay the Level Seven Dice Levelers!" Charlie says as his monsters construct the Number style Galaxy Overlay Network, "I build the Overlay Network with these three monsters, Xyz Summon! Come forth! Number 7: Lucky Straight!" (Number 7: Lucky Straight, Rank 7, 700 ATK)
"There it is." Yuma says, looking at the new monster.
"The Number!" Astral states.
"It's here, here, here, here!" Charlie chants out holding up his hand, the sigil of Number 7 pulsing on it, "LIFE IS CARNIVAL!" he yells out.
"Darn it!" Yuma curses out.
"As I said…" Charlie starts.
"Sun remains one.. Luck unending blah blah blah blah." I said cutting him off.
Charlie blinks at that for a second before laughing, "Well either way my good fortune won't end!" he comments.
The train took another sharp corner, I let out a yelp of surprise when Kotori grabbed onto me for support pulling me over slightly, her D-Gazer then began to ring.
"Kotori." I heard Akari say over the phone.
"Akari?" Kotori asks her caller.
"Listen carefully, there's only five minutes left before this monorail reaches its destination." Akari explains.
Kotori lets out a gasp, "That means…." she mutters.
"Don't worry, I'll handle it somehow." Akari reassures her.
"Yuma, you got a five minute time limit!" I yell out to him.
"Huh?" Yuma questions looking back at us.
"We're close to the destination!" Kotori explains to him.
"What?!" Yuma gasps in shock.
"Here I come, Yuma!" Charlie says getting back Yuma's attention, "I activate Lucky Straight's effect! When this Monster battles, by detaching one Overlay Unit, I roll a Die, and after the battle commences, Lucky Straight's attack power will increase by its original attack power multiplied by the number rolled on the dice." he says as one of the Overlay Units is absorbed into Straight's staff.
Lucky Straight formed a Casino Coin from which a giant hand materialized and threw a giant dice.
"Alright, here i Go!" Charlie says as the dice is thrown.
The others gasped as another six was rolled.
"It's a six! Lucky Straight's original attack power is 700, so times six, it's 4200!" Charlie says as his Number gains a big boost. (Number 7: Lucky Straight: 700 ATK - 4200 ATK)
"4200?!" Yuma says in shock.
"I attack you directly with Lucky Straight!" Charlie declares, ordering his monster to attack, "Super Lucky Nova!"
"Yuma, use the Trap!" Astral yells out in warning.
"Understood!" Yuma responds, "Trap Card, open! Nitwit Outwit! When I'm about to receive a direct attack, by sending one Monster Card from my hand to the Graveyard, this card reduces the Battle Damage equal to the Attack of the sent Monster! I send Zubaba Knight to the Graveyard!" He explains as he sends Zubaba Knight to his Graveyard, before the portal opens back up and Zubaba knight peaks through taking the brunt of the attack before it hits Yuma and knocks him back.
"Yuma!" Kotori calls out in concern.
"You alright?" I asked as well.
Yuma sat up groaning slightly in pain. (Yuma: 4000 - 1400)
Lucky Straight's ATK dropped back to its original value as its effect wore off. (Number 7: Lucky Straight: 4200 ATK - 700 ATK)
"Oh, a Trap Card? Impressive indeed!" Charlie compliments Yuma, "I end my turn."
"Damn it." Yuma groans standing up, "Hey, can't you do anything?!" he asks Astral.
"If his fortune really is flawless, then there really is nothing we can do about it." Astral tells his partner.
"You can't be serious." Yuma laments.
"Hey, Yuma!" Akari yells out riding up alongside us on her Motorcycle, "What are you sulking about?" she yells at her brother.
"Sis!" Yuma says in shock.
"Akari?" Charlie questions surprised.
"Charlie! Just you wait, I will be there soon to give you a good beating!" Akari tells him through the AR Screen that popped up.
"You're as passionate as ever! If it's a kiss you're after, I'd be glad to oblige!" Charlie says, teasing his old flame.
"Yuma!" Akari says, causing him to flich slightly in shock as the screen suddenly switches to infront of him, "I guess you are being crushed by Lucky Straight the card Charlie stole, Right?" she asks him.
Yuma just turns to the side and tries to whistle but can't, so just ends up puffing his cheeks.
"I need to tell you something about that card!" When the sun splits in two, it's power will be carried away with the wind." Akari tells him.
"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?" Yuma questions.
"It's a rumor that talks about how to take the luck away from that card." Akari says.
"Take the luck away?" Yuma mutters.
"That's what I've been saying! Life is Carnival! It means my luck won't disappear as long as the sun is round and whole!" Charlie tells Yuma.
"Two Suns?" Astral mutters to himself.
"And that's what makes this card's fortune absolute!" Charlie says
I say Akari accelerated away out of the corner of my eye.
"C'mon, Yuma. It's probably about the right time for you to be surrendering." Charlie goads him.
"As if! I-I'll never give up!" Yuma says filled with determination, "My turn! Draw!" he says drawing his card. "I Summon Ganbara Knight!" he says special summoning the dual shield holding monster.(Ganbara Knight, Level 4, 0 ATK)
"When a Level Four Monster is Summoned successfully, I can Special summon Kagetokage from my hand!" he says as from out of his shadow a lizard silhouette appeared. (Kagetokate, Level 4, 1100 ATK)
"All right, I overlay the Level Four Kagetokage and Ganbara Knight! I built the Overlay Network with these two Monsters! Xyz Summon! Come forth, Number 39: Utopia!" Yuma calls out as Utopia let out a battle cry. (Number 39: Utopia, Rank 4, 2500 ATK)
"We finally meet, Hope." I muttered looking at Yuma's Ace.
"I use Utopia to attack Lucky Straight!" Yuma declares as Utopia draws it's Sword.
"I activate the continuous trap, Dice Crisis!" Charlie says activating his face-down, By tossing a die, if I get a six this card makes the Attack Power of one Monster my opponent controls Zero, then I gain control of it!"
Yuma grit his teeth knowing what was coming.
"Ole!" Charlie said tossing the dice.
"It won't show up!" Yuma says wishfully before the six showed up.
"Please, don't show up!" Kotori begs.
I looked at Kotori from the corner of my eye, even though it was pointless to do so seeing Kotori pleading as well just moved a small part of me… NOT LIKE THAT YOU IDIOTS!
"Please!" I pleaded for a roll in Yuma's favor.
Of course neither of our wishes were answered as the Six showed up.
"Sorry to disappoint. I got a six again! Now Utopia belongs to me!" Charlie states before the Dice shoots a beam at Utopia dragging him to Charlie's side. (Number 39: Utopia: 2500 ATK - 0 ATK)
"Utopia… I set one card and end my turn." Yuma growls out, upset his favorite monster was stolen.
"We're pretty close to the final stope." Charlie says noticing something in the distance ahead of us, "Allow me to finish this Duel. After all, you can't win anyway. Everything is fruitless in front of my strong luck!"
"You're pissing me off with this "luck, luck" talk! It doesn't matter whether you have luck or not! All that means is that a person tries their best in a fight! That's how Dueling should be! Just like my Dad taught me!" Yuma snaps back.
"Yuma.." Charlie mutters surprised.
"My Dad never relied on luck! He always opened the path with his own strength, and I'll do the same!" Yuma explains.
"Yuma.." Astral comments in surprise as Charlie stares at Yuma intently and silently.
"I will not give up!" Yuma says.
"Atta boy Yuma, keep that DETERMINATION burning strong." I tell him.
"I get it. Then allow me to finish this once and for all." Charlie says accepting the feelings of Yuma's resolve. "My turn!" he says drawing his card.
"Yuma!" Astral calls out to him.
"Right!" Yuma nods, "Hold up, I activate my Trap Card." he says opening his set card, "Commander of Swords! When there is a Light Attribute Warrior Type monster on the field, I can activate this during your Draw Phase! Now Draw your Card, and if the drawn card is a magic or trap, I can either destroy the drawn card, or destroy one Magic or Trap card on the field!"
"I see, so your goal is to destroy Dice Crises, and get Utopia back!" Charlie comments.
"Draw it, Charlie!" Yuma orders him.
Charlie grits his teeth before drawing his card, "Draw!" he looks at it before holding it out, "The card I drew is Sun's Scale! By tossing a die once per turn, If I get a six, all Monsters on my opponent's field will be destroyed." he says as the sun appeared on his field. "Even if you get back your Utopia, my victory won't change, as long as the sun is still round."
"Well this is a familiar sight." I commented on the situation to Kotori, but keeping my voice loud enough for Astral and Yuma to overhear.
Kotori looked over at me, "What is?"
I leaned back, closing my eyes, feeling the breeze in my hair and a serene smile.
"Back where I came from, there was a duelist who had a card whose power was connected to the moon, that card allowed the duelist to become a strong unbeatable force.
"How was he defeated?" Kotori asks, enraptured by my story.
I opened one eye, "By cutting off the card's connection to the moon by destroying it."
"But destroying the moon is impossible." Kotori says in disbelief.
"True, but he found another way, by having his monster attack and destroy a card that represented the moon" I tell her.
"Breaking the connection by destroying a card that represents the moon…" Astral mutters about my story before looking at Sun's Scale, eye widening he mutters "The Sun."
"I destroy Dice Crisis…." Yuma begins to say.
"Yuma, The Sun!" Astral calls out to him.
"Huh?" Yuma questions.
"Split the sun!" Astral orders him.
"The sun?" Yuma says looking back at Charlie's field.
Charlie gasps realizing the situation, "As long as the sun is round and whole.."
"I get it! So you mean…" Yuma realizes Astral's plan.
"I can't believe such a thing could happen in a Duel!" Charlie says in disbelief.
"According to the effect of Commander of Swords, the selected warrior, Utopia! Cut the sun from the Magic Card, Sun's Scale." Yuma orders.
"I-It can't be!" Charlie stammers.
"Go, Utopia! Hope Sword Slash!" Yuma cries out as Utopia swing it's sword splitting the sun.
"The sun… became two!" Kotori says.
"You did it Yuma." I say happily.
A light aura briefly appeared on Charlie before it vanished.
"That light is…" Yuma mutters.
"Don't tell me the card's power…" Charlie mutters in disbelief before shaking his head in denial, "How could that happen?!"
"Because Sun's Scale was destroyed, you will receive 500 points of damage!" Charlie says as flames appear on his hand launching at Yuma. (Yuma: 1400 - 900)
"How can my luck disappear?! I activate the effect of Take a Chance! If I roll a six, my Life will increase 5 fold! Otherwise it will return to its original value." he says as a dice appears in his hand and he tosses it. "One?! So my fortune really did vanish… I end my turn" he says in shock at the result as the dice takes away his life. (Charlie: 100000 - 4000)
"Yuma, do it now!" Astral says.
"Win!" I cheer him on simply.
"Alright, my turn Draw!" Yuma says drawing for his turn, "I activate the Magic Card, Comeback! It will recover one of my Monsters on my opponent's field!" he explains as a yellow beam of energy shoots out and hits Utopia, "Come back, My Utopia!" Utopia movies back to Yuma's field.
"All right, Utopia is back." Kotori cheered out.
"I'm gonna bring it to 'em!" Yuma cries out as his key let off a soft glow and Utopia began to reseal itself and reenters the overlay network and changes into a new form, "Chaos Xyz Change! Now show yourself, The messenger who used the power of Hope to turn chaos into light! Number C39: Utopia Ray" (Number C39: Utopia Ray, Rank 4,2500)
"Utopia Ray?" Charlie says in shock.
"I activate the effect of Utopia Ray! By detaching one Overlay Unit, it gains 500 Attack Points then for each Overlay Unit detached, the opponent's Monster's Attack Power will decrease by 1000! Overlay Charge!" Yuma declares as Utopia Ray held aloft its sword and absorbed its Overlay Units. (Number C39 Utopia Ray: 2500 ATK - 4000 ATK) (Number 7: Lucky Straight:700 ATK - 0 ATK)
"Go! I attack Lucky Straight with Utopia Ray! Hope Sword Chaos Slash!" Yuma declared ordering his monster to attack,
Charlie yelled as he was thrown back. (Charlie:4000 - 0) (Yuma: WIN!)
"Alright, I win!" Yuma cheers as the breaks activate and the train screeches.
"Yuma, The final stop!" Kotori calls out to him in warning.
"We're not gonna stop in time" I said in concern, as I slowly put on my Duel Disk an idea forming in my head one that either would work and save us, or not and I'd die looking stupid.
"What are you doing?" Kotori asks me.
Ahead of us, Akari leapt onto the track on her bike and accelerated forward towards the train.
"Sis!" Yuma says in shock.
"Akari's gonna bring it to ya!" Akari calls out sliding her bike and jumping off, the bike catches on the train and begins to make a horrible noise as it slides along the tracks.
"Whew." I muttered lowering my arm before the bike dislodged.
"Oh No!" Kotori yelled out."
"SIS!" Yuma cried out.
I quickly activated my duel disk and drew my cards no time like the present to test this. "I summon Raidraptor - Vanishing Lanius!" I said, slapping the card onto the disk as the monster appeared behind me. "Save her." I ordered pointing at Akari who had leapt off the tracks.
Vanishing let out a screech rushing towards the falling Akari.
"What are you doing, your holographic monster cant sa…." Yuma begins to say before Akari lands on Vanishing Lanius and it flys her up onto of the train.
"Somehow Kiryu's monster has a physical presence." Astral says in shock.
I walked over to Yuma and grabbed his deck box off his waist.
"Hey, Wait what are you doing?!" Yuma says in shock.
Ignoring him I open it and finger through looking for a card, 'Got it!' I mentally yell before pulling it out and slipping it into my extra deck, closing the box I toss it back to him.
"50 Seconds left." I muttered, "With Vanishing Lanius's effect I Special Summon a Second Copy!" I said as a second Vanishing Lanius appeared. "I Overlay my two Level 4 Raidraptor - Vanishing Lanius!" I said as the two monsters became energy and entered the Overlay Network. "Xyz Summon, Come Forth Number 39 Utopia!" I called out summoning the card I had just taken from Yuma.
"Utopia!" Kotori mutters.
"Why is Kiryu summoning these monsters? We have to stop the train!" Akari yells
"Wait sis…. I think I see Kiryu's plan!" Yuma says walking over to me.
I looked at Yuma, "Let's do this." I tell him getting a nod
"I detach an Overlay Unit from Utopia to activate it's effect!" I called out as Utopia absorbed an
"Utopia, Stop the Train! Moon Barrier!" Yuma called out as Utopia formed a shield and steeled itself in front of the train.
Slowly but surely the train began to stop, before it fully did.
Akari let out a sigh, "Are you three all right?"
"Yup!" Kotori and Yuma say, I just give a silent OK hand sign
"Thank goodness." Akari sighs, "And thank's for saving me Kiryu." she tells me.
"No Prob." I say cooly.
"Where's Charlie?!" Akari asks.
I pointed to where Charlie was laying.
"My luck… My luck has disappeared! I'm so sorry, Mayumi…" Charlie mutters.
"Who's that?!" Akari snaps jealousy.
"A-Akari!" Charlie says sitting up in shock.
"Who's this woman named Mayumi?" Akari yells about to punch him.
"No No, You got it all wrong!" Charlie protests.
"Then explain!" Akari says, grasping his shirt.
"Sh-She's my Niece!" Charlie says looking down.
"Your Niece?" Akari asks, letting go in shock.
Charlie nods, "She's a fail young thing. She is about to have a serious operation, When I heard about that card's power I thought it would be a good luck charm for her." he explains.
"I see…" Akari mutters.
I notice in the corner of my eye that Astral was beginning to go absorb Number 7 before Yuma talks him out of it.
I stood up and dusted myself off, "If your niece is about to have an important surgery then what are you doing here!" I said.
"Ahh you're right!" Charlie yells standing up as he and Akari run off.
"Okay! The day's finally over!" Yuma said as the four of us were wandering down the road.
"It was an interesting one!" I said.
""Hey, Kiryu How did you summon your monsters!" Kotori asks me curiously.
I noticed the question also got Astral and Yuma's attention, I pulled out my Duel Disk and held it out to her, "It's simple, my Duel Disk has a program that inputs mass into Solid Vision, dubbed Real Solid Vision." I tell her.
"Real Solid Vision…" Astral muttered.
"That sounds Amazing…" Yuma mutters in awe.
"If you think that's amazing you should see the other styles of Dueling we have back home like Riding Duels, Actions Duells or Rush Duels!" I said putting my Disk Away.
"Those sound amazing!" Yuma says energetically.
I nodded, I was about to explain before I was interrupted by a growl. I turned to look at a red faced Kotori.
"I'm feeling pretty hungry myself!" I said
"Will she really return the Number to us?" Astral asks Yuma.
"It'll be fine!" Yuma says, after everything had settled I gave Yuma back Number 39 and I retrieved Number 81 from among the cards Charlie stole.
"No, I think we need to be more concerned about this! Hey! Yuma!" Astral called after us as the three of us humans discussed what we should do for food.
