ONESHOTS
I. So Much For Swimming in Peace (KKIR)
Iruka’s swim workout gets interrupted.
He hides behind his Gatorade.
II. Home (KKIR)
After a week-long mission, Kakashi drags himself back home.
Iruka is there to welcome him.
III. Sunrise (KKIR)
“Peaceful places, moments like this… I just wish that they could be here to see it, you know?” Kakashi’s words were spoken softly, but Iruka could hear a hint of pain reflected in his voice.
“You deserve this, Kakashi,” Iruka whispered. “Please don’t ever forget that.”
IV. Beside You, Always (KKIR)
“I’ll die alone on the battlefield someday,” Kakashi said with a shrug.
The words never stopped haunting Iruka.
V. Under the Morning Sun (KKIR)
Kakashi finds Iruka in the garden.
Iruka flashed the sleepy-looking Rokudaime a slightly-suggestive grin. “And how are you doing this morning?”
Kakashi leaned forward, a smile ghosting his lips. “I’ll let you be the judge of that, sensei.”
VI. Hidden Inside a Mission Scroll (KKIR)
It had been rather simple, truth be told, and yet somehow the act of leaving a small origami heart in the mission scroll had been more difficult than any S-rank mission Kakashi had ever encountered.
He was beyond terrified, the blazing heat of embarrassment flushing his face crimson.
The moment Kakashi’s fingers closed around the new scroll held out shakily in the chunin’s hand, he instantly disappeared, body-flickering out of the mission room as quickly as he could manage.
And that was how Hatake Kakashi, master of a thousand jutsu, gave his first confession of love to the cute chunin sensei at the mission desk.
VII. Please Don't Leave Me (KKIR)
Tears slipped down Iruka’s cheeks, forming glittering trails through the thick layers of ash covering his skin. In the distance, he could hear explosions—deafening bursts of sound that punctuated the wails and screams of the battlefield. His hands gripped the navy fabric of the jounin’s uniform, feeling the damp stickiness of blood slipping between his fingers as he tightened his hold.
He wanted to scream, to join the desperate song of misery and despair that echoed about the village ruins. But that wouldn’t do anything.
It wouldn’t defeat the Akatsuki.
It wouldn’t bring comfort to the young Akimichi sobbing beside him.
It wouldn’t mend the shattered pieces of his heart.
And it wouldn’t bring Kakashi back.
VIII. "Please Don't Squish the Hokage" (KKIR)
A weight dropped on top of Kakashi and he let out an indignant squawk, struggling to roll over as his hitai-ate fell down over his eyes. “Ow, Naruto—”
“Wait!” Naruto screeched. “Gai-sensei—"
Kakashi’s heart sank as Gai’s raucous laughter filled the air. Taking a deep breath, he braced himself.
A second body slammed down on top of Kakashi, and he let out a grunt as all the air was driven from his lungs. Pinned and completely blinded by his forehead protector, Kakashi felt his two assailants flail about. In the midst of the chaos, an elbow found Kakashi’s ribs, and he let out a sound somewhere between a cough and a groan.
“Now, now, please don’t squish the Hokage.” Iruka’s voice sounded light, and Kakashi turned his head in the chunin Headmaster's direction, scrunching his nose.
IX. Snowfall, Fairy Lights, and a Ring (KKIR)
Kakashi's fingers brushed against the soft, velvet box contained in the inner pocket of his flak jacket. He'd been carrying it with him for some time now, waiting for a moment that felt…right.
Even the very thought of proposing caused heat to rush into Kakashi’s face. He still had no idea what he’d say, despite having imagined the moment over and over in his head.
Closing his eyes, Kakashi took a deep breath, feeling his stomach flutter nervously. He’d wanted it for a long, long time, and he knew Iruka did as well…
But that didn’t stop the unnamed fears and anxieties from racing through his mind like a small storm.
X. Love... Never Again 悪夢 (KKIR)
Iruka’s swim workout gets interrupted.
