![]() Author has written 55 stories for Overlord/オーバーロード, Love, Death & Robots, Goblin Slayer/ゴブリンスレイヤー, and KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World. Author's Discord Server invite code: /ArqYV5Q Author's Patr3 on for ORIGINAL work: /tellingstories Audio Works of the Author: yut00b dot com slash channel slash UCzY5dLZitYen7LiNkW1mmgQ (Channel name: Telling Stories) This is a little note for the writer in everyone: A LOT OF YOU...have expressed a desire to write. So with that in mind, let me encourage you...DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT! DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT! If within you lies a story, put it out there! If you want to just try it...DO IT! I realize sometimes it can be hard, but believe me the rewards are worth the effort! I don't mean critical acclaim, I don't mean readers rushing to praise your work, I don't mean a boost of ego, I don't mean in wealth or fame or reputation or status. The true reward comes in the very ACT of creation, and making something NEW that is your gift to the world, that little part of yourself that even those you'll never meet can share in. It is an act of giving like nothing else on earth that everybody deserves to experience. Yes, the craft of writing can be hard, I've been writing stories since I was little, I remember my first one ever, a fanfiction of Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory called 'Rusty's Adventures in Space' slammed out on an ancient typewriter. I asked my dad if it was good enough to publish, and he said 'No.' In retrospect he was right, but hey I was six years old...or was it eight...hard to say, but it still, that was a bruise. Second story I wrote was for a class that was teaching writing using a hamburger model to represent the stages of a story arc, we had to write our story on a cutout picture of a hamburger, I wrote a short story about two boxers named 'ketchup and mustard'. Again...I was very little, but it was funny at the time... still kind of is. :D Never in my life have I regretted a single creative effort, and believe me when I say neither will you. Its OK that you start off sucky, I did too, and even after all these years I only consider myself to be an OK writer, knocking the suck off any new skill takes time and repetition...but believe me, you won't regret it. The same goes for ANY creative aspect of yourself you feel drawn to! You'll start off bad and knock the suck off as you gain more experience. Just read, study, practice, and you'll grind the suck away and build an ability. Seek out positive communities that support beginners, and when it comes to writing, well that is already here! The Overlord Community is easily the best and most encouraging/supportive literary community I've seen in a long time. So try it. Put something out there, even if it is bad, ask for constructive feedback, rework it, and try again. I won't tell you that it's the journey, not the destination...I'll tell you instead that the journey IS the destination. So IF you feel you have a writer inside of you, even if it is just for one story, let him or her out, you'll be happier for it! If you want help along the way, well join the Overlord Fanfiction discord, we have lots of talented beta readers who are happy to encourage new writers, as well as my discord exclusive content and a great, positive community. You'll find the invite in the author description on the author page. So in conclusion... There is awesome inside of you, all you have to do, is DARE TO EMBRACE IT! And you know what, I PROMISE you, if you show a DESIRE to improve and a real love for creating, you WILL find that much of this community is willing to support you, encourage you, and help you develop your skills. Believe me you won't regret it. You keep telling yourself that 'someday' you'll write that book, that story, that you want to tell? Well today IS that day if you MAKE IT SO! This is ABD, signing off. |
