Alliance
"Pay up, Reiner" Jean told the man, who reluctantly slid some of his pebbles, substituting money, across the table to Jean. Sighing, the blond asked: "Since when were you so good at poker?"
"I've just gotten better over the years" Jean said "Lots of practice."
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were an MP with a gambling addiction" Reiner muttered "Another round?"
"Sure" Annie delt out the cards, though she looked bored. Jean guessed that they could go two, three if they were lucky, more rounds before their card dealer decided to find something else to do.
Looking at his cards, Jean managed to keep a neutral face. They weren't the best, but not the worst either, so maybe…
He glances at Pieck, who's sitting on a small side table few meters behind Reiner, reading a book. Or to be more specific, pretending to read a book. Glancing up from it, she slightly shakes her head, tapping four of her right hand´s fingers against her book.
"Four of a kind? Seriously?" Jean thought, careful to not let the surprise show on his face. Turning his attention to Reiner, he noticed that the guy's poker face was slipping, badly. Folding now wouldn't be weird at all.
"I fold" Jean says, not missing Pieck's approving nod behind the blond.
"Damn, hoped you'd raise. At least I won this one" Reiner puts his cards in to view "Crappy cards, huh?"
Jean reveals his hand of three kings, a three and a seven. Reiner raises an eyebrow.
"Three of a kind ain't that bad; why did you fold?"
"Your poker face slipped. Badly" Annie spoke for Jean, which he was grateful for. With Annie being the one to say it instead of him, Reiner would suspect nothing.
"What she said" he says "So I figured that either you're completely screwing me over, or had a really good hand. I betted on the later, fortunately."
"Damn…" Reiner mutters "Once more?"
Jean takes a quick glance at Pieck, who nods.
"Sure, why not"
A.N: 'Cause the theme was "Alliance" and my brain drew a blank on that one.
