Here we are again, chapter 9 all polished and ready. (at least as much as it's gonna be) I shan't talk a bunch now, instead I'll let you lovely people get on to reading the anticipated chapter.

Thank you all for your kindness and patience, and reads and reviews and such!

Start

Sabine paced about the room, arms folded.

The doors slid open and Ezra leant on the doorframe. "Sabine, we're going to be late," he said peering in. At seeing Sabine pacing he narrowed his eyes.

"Yeah..." murmured Sabine.

Ezra knew exactly what was on Sabine's mind, because it had been on his too.

"You're thinking about her."

"How can I not?" Sabine exclaimed in agony, finally stopping and looking at Ezra, "she's lost!"

"She might not be lost, Sabine."

"Yeah? And then what is she? Would she deliberately run away like this?" Sabine turned around again. "I've become like my mother. I-I've driven her away."

"That's not it, Sabine. Know that you have not made the same mistakes with Aurora that your mother made with you. Aurora would've gone on this quest with us just the same if we'd agreed." Ezra then chuckled. "She's just too headstrong. She believed she had to go and so she went, come what would."

Sabine thought quietly for a moment, ultimately deciding that Ezra was right for now. "You-you haven't picked up anything? With your bond or whatever?" Sabine eagerly asked.

"Well, yes, but...I don't know how to explain it... I can feel her..."

"You can feel her? Where is she? Can you find out? Is she safe?"

Ezra shook his head. "I'm sorry, it's not like that... I don't know."

"Well then what good are you?" Sabine snapped, turning away.

Ezra creased his brows and sighed. "I know, I know. I wish I could understand better what was going on; and what she saw, what it meant, and where she is. I can't. But, listen to me," Ezra gently touched Sabine's shoulder, "your daughter is tough. She's smart and she's proficient. And she is alive. Have faith..."

Sabine looked at Ezra deeply for a moment. She nodded, pursing her lips.

And there they continued on with life, hoping beyond hopes that their daughter would return to them unharmed. They hoped she was safe and well. But oh, how mistaken they were...

Aurora was in scattered thought. She sat on a chair slouched, legs outspread, heals on the floor. She held a long lock of her hair and stared at it in disgust. It wasn't now, but Aurora pictured it glowing. How would she explain this to mother and father? What would people think of her and what would they do? She didn't even know what to do, or how to explain how it happened. Maybe Kalin would know, but she wouldn't know that unless she told him. And that was something she wasn't sure she should do yet. Maybe when they got back and he stayed with her, then maybe she could tell him. But the urge to tell him weighed on her mind. Almost as heavily as the thought of how she'd awakened wrapped in his arms. She forced the smirk off her face once she realized it was there.

Then she shifted gently in her chair. But as she did so, the ship jolted so it nearly made Aurora fall on the floor. She flailed to steady herself and barely caught on to a handle on the wall. Finding her legs again, she stumbled to her feet, running up beside Kalin, and what she saw made her stomach churn. "The First Order..." she murmured. There in space around them, TIE fighters hissed and screeched, flying about in a mad dash. "Kalin, we need to go. Make another jump, quick." A moment passed quietly, Aurora gaping into the stars around them. "Kalin, please. They'll overtake us."

His silence was becoming enough to notice. She looked down at him.

His head was low, his eyes were in a possessed darkness and he wore a scowl. He exhaled deeply through his nose and his jaw twitched as he clenched it.

He slowly looked up at her, and as he stood Aurora backed up, stumbling a bit.

He handled his saber that hung from his belt and Aurora's heart began to pound. "What are you doing, Kalin? We need to leave, now!"

He shook his head slowly. "We're not leaving." His voice was deep, husky.

Aurora stared as he slowly approached her. Aurora's hand prickled as adrenaline rushed through her body and before she knew it she was moving. Pursing her lips she lunged past Kalin, trying to slam the hyperspace lever down. Before her hand could even come close to the lever, Kalin stopped her mid lunge. His arms grappling her torso, he pulled, using her momentum to whip her against the wall. Her head smacked it and she cried out. His hands slammed against the wall above her head, his body holding her in place.

Aurora's eyes stung and tears began to roll down her cheeks. She growled in frustration and lunged against Kalin's grip, pounding her fists against his body, fighting so that Kalin had to push on her waist with his hands to hold her in place. "What are you doing? We need to leave, please," she begged. "Why would you turn me over, what do you want? Who the bloody hell are you?" Aurora sobbed, pulling against him to the side and she nearly slithered free from his grasp.

He was too strong. Grabbing her waist again, this time harder. "Stop it, stop it," she shrieked at the top of her voice, her cries ending in a high pitched scream!

He held her pinned to his body and he pressed his hand against her head. Aurora panicked, not knowing what he was doing, she pushed against him in any way she could, hands transitioning from his body to his hands. Her hands, however, couldn't stop the force. She barely heard him murmur: "I'm sorry," before she felt him enter her mind. He enveloped her. It as if she were in a confined space filling with water. And she was drowning. "Kalin! Stop, stop please!"

But he was taking over her senses, and she was losing her grip. Her head became heavy and her muscles became weaker and weaker until she could no longer stand. She felt him shift to support her full weight, and caught glimpses through her blurred eyes of his chin and his raven black hair. And then, finally, she was too weak. Her efforts to hold on to reality failed her and she slipped into darkness.

The weight of her breathing was the first thing she felt...

She was laying on her back, her head resting to the side, her arms above her head. She inhaled again and the cold air stung her nose.

She put her hand on her forehead and cringed. The pain from Kalins forcing himself into her mind lingered. And she reflected that she'd never been so invaded before. Never had she experienced another force user push their way past her mental barriers with such raw strength and anger. It was too easy for him, and it made her ache with both furry and fear. She slowly opened her eyes, thanking the stars the lights were dim. She sat up, again feeling the unpleasant sensations from the aforementioned events. Her stomach ached with increasing worry on her present situation. She didn't know what they'd done to her or what they had planned. But if it was that easy for him to enter her mind so quickly before, he'd be able to tear apart her head and get secrets. Including, Aurora drearily realized, the secret of her hair. And then what would they do with her? Aurora then had a sudden impulse. Something akin to a primal survival instinct. She needed to get rid of what they wanted. Quickly, before it was too late. Aurora swiveled around, eyes scanning the room in frantic desperation.

Something glinted in the corner, catching Aurora's eye. She crawled over to it and grabbed a sharp blade of broken glass. She held it between her fingers and stared at it breathing heavily. Pursuing her lips and closing her eyes she grabbed a thick lock of her hair with one hand. And with the other, she cut. She felt the pressure of the shard against the lock. It cut smoothly through every strand. She opened her fingers and the lock fell lightly to the floor around her knees. Aurora exhaled, realizing she had been holding her breath. Her breathing was shaky and she felt emotionally numb. Bracing herself, she continued. Aurora pulled the glass through and through, lock after lock, strand after strand. Until the hair on her head ended in curled up and messy layers, cupping her face like a pair of hands. Gracing and extending down until it ended with her neck, no longer touching her back in any way. Aurora exhaled again, she threw the chunk of glass away from her, it clattered and broke on the floor, landing in several pieces in a dark and dusty corner of the cell. Aurora lifted her shaky and bloody hands. She then ran them through her hair, ruffling it and feeling it. It was so terribly foreign and new.

It wouldn't have been her first choice, but it was one she should've made the moment she'd discovered the cursed glow.

And now that her shock was wearing off she felt the emotional weight, not only of her action here, but the entire ordeal, take affect. It had all been rather traumatic, but the worst was Kalin's betrayal. She had trusted him, and this is where her trust had gotten her. Aurora began to have an inclination that her forgotten memories would be very dreadful if she had the pleasure of remembering them. And at this point, she thought it better that she didn't.

The doors slid open above her, taking Aurora by surprise. She glared into the direction of they who entered. She felt his presence before she even saw him. It was bright and intense and it hurt like looking into the sun. Aurora puffed her chest and scowled at her captor. Kalin stood above her, tall. He had hidden his face behind a mask and had adorned his cloak once more. But his stance changed. He seemed to suddenly tense up and he looked between Aurora and her severed hair that surrounded her. He stepped into the room with quickness. Aurora growled in frustration and anger when he stooped and grabbed her shoulders, hauling her up easily and tightened his grip.

"What have you done?" He whispered in a husky growl through gritted teeth.

Aurora glowered and wiggled fruitlessly and half heartedly, trying to free herself. Kalin's grip, however, was firm. He let one hand go of Aurora's arm and ushered her out with the other. Naturally, Aurora pulled with great agility against him. She found her voice again and didn't hesitate to use it. "Let go of me! You promised to take me home," she growled, pulling against him again. "Was this your intention all along? Argh! Let me go, let go. Kalin!" she shrieked.

He gave her arm another tug, and leant in very quickly. "Sh!" He hissed. "You mustn't call me that. Keep quiet. Or you'll be hurt."

"Would you hurt me? What do I have to give you now?"

"Not by me," stated Kalin. There was a hint of something akin to remorse in his tone. Something that took Aurora aback. This caused her to quiet, though she still half heartedly pulled against Kalin's hand. He guided her steadily along, now in silence, until they came up to a lift.

Aurora was pushed into the dimly lit space and swallowed as it moved. She felt her anticipation build as they went. Questions flooded her thoughts, overwhelming her. Questions such as: where was she? where she was going? What was going to happen? And, most of all, who wanted to hurt her?

Aurora felt the anxiety so keenly, she acted out of her overwhelmed state. She pulled against Kalin again and when his grip remained strong she grumbled and pulled harder. He gave Aurora's arm a hard tug to still her. A moment of silence followed, one that nearly murdered Aurora.

"You shouldn't have cut your hair," Kalin finally muttered.

"Why?" she demanded, quietly. But she knew. They knew about her hair, whoever "they" were. But Aurora had notion.

"You're with the First Order, aren't you? These... these are imperial facilities."

"You're smart. But I would suggest saving your energy."

"Why? So you can interrogate me?"

"Had you cooperated, that might not have had to happened. And it may not still if the force is on your side. Pray it is."

Aurora felt what was left of her bravado being broken by Kalin's words. She had heard the horror stories of Resistance fighters being caught and the means in which they were interrogated. She had heard her fair share of horror stories from the Empire's handlings of Rebels. She knew none of their tactics or ways were pretty. Very unlike the Resistance, they used physical means to persuade more than not. And here Aurora suddenly felt the tingling and the ache, as if she had already gone through something similar... something very much like this painful experience. Aurora looked up quickly at Kalin. He refused to look at her, simply looking ahead.

A cold chill ran up Aurora's back as the lift slowed to a stop.

Kalin ushered Aurora out into a dark black room. An extraordinarily large room. Aurora found it oddly familiar... But her attention was pulled to a masked man coming towards them. He was tall and adorned in solid black. A mask was covering his face also and he held his hands behind his back as he walked. All of this was familiar...

"Master Ren."

Aurora looked up at Kalin quickly. Master?

He had a master? Ren... where had she heard this before? Yes, it was her mother's maiden name, but... but somehow Aurora felt she had heard it elsewhere. She knew she had... the Knights of Ren, and their feared leader and prominent figure in the First Order. Kylo Ren.

And Kalin! His alias, Kejia Ren? Why he, Kalin, was a Knight of Ren!

Kylo Ren stopped and stared. Or Aurora presumed he was staring as his face was covered completely by his black leather and metal mask.

"You told me her hair was longer, Kejia. What's happened?" His voice was choppy, psychotic. As if it hurt him to speak for the intensity of his energy.

"She cut it," hissed Kalin sharply from directly behind Aurora, making her jump slightly.

Kylo was angry, though he gave no physical cues besides stiffness. No, Aurora could feel his anger rolling off of him like billowing smoke. He was a wildfire of insanity and anger and it made Aurora cold all over. A few heavy breaths hissed from his mask and he began to clench his fists.

"Use the force," he hissed intensely with such a sudden manner as to make Aurora jerk again.

Aurora's heart began to pound, and she felt suddenly short of breath. She couldn't-

"Use the force," he bellowed.

This time Aurora flinched and lifted her hands. Closing her eyes, she felt around the room with her mind, the beings within it and the energy it possessed. It was cold and dark. It made her shiver from the inside out. Only one thing stood out in the black of the air. Kalin. His presence was that of warmth in an odd way. He wasn't a being that naturally omitted warmth, in fact he should be just as cold as his master. But he wasn't to Aurora. Not to her. She lingered, focusing all of her force senses and attention in him. She felt enraptured. The force flooded through her veins she felt it pulsing in her arms and hands like her blood. She opened her eyes and she saw no glow, no fire. Only her short brown hair, framing her face. She felt an odd relief. But it was immediately cut short, replaced by terror as Kylo growled in hideous anger. Aurora cried out in shock as he pushed her to the floor past Kalin, and Kylo drew a truly terrifying weapon. A lightsaber... a design Aurora had never before seen. With two connecting beams at the hilt, the saber was blood red. The man stood over her, legs on either side, and he held his weapon down. It was terribly unstable, sparks flew past her and stung her skin as he pointed it to her neck and she felt the broken crystal crying and it's insane thirst for her flesh.

"Why did you waste the only ounce of potential you had, child? You destroyed any hope of ever becoming anything useful!"

He stared at Aurora's teary face for too long then he snickered. "Aurora Bridger. The daughter of two war heroes. But she's still only a child." He sheathed his saber and moved away.

A moment of looming silence enveloped everything and Aurora could hear her blood throbbing in her ears.

Kylo turned to Kalin and outstretched his hand.

Kalin reached to the back of his belt and unhooked something. Aurora's jaw dropped and her eyes widened.

Kalin held out a lightsaber. Silver hilt, with two beads hanging from a string at the end.

Kylo took it and looked it over. He ignited the blade and it illuminated everything with it's purple glow.

Aurora swallowed hard, her dry throat making her want to choke. She was under the impression that she'd lost her saber to the pirates who'd stabbed her leg... Oh what had happened?

"Do you know what this color means, child," asked Master Ren?

Of course she didn't. She remembered the time she'd found her crystal. She had been with her grandmother on some Mandalorian business she couldn't remember. She'd strayed from the group to follow the siren singing. Deep in a forest unknown. And there she'd found a crystal. So delicate and small and something akin to an amethyst. And it sang. She still remembered her grandmother being quite unconsolably upset at her wandering off, and the subtle look of horror on her fathers face when she'd returned with the colored crystal. And he never once would tell her it's meaning. Aurora shook her head, so gently it would've been missed.

"It means," snapped Kylo, "you have an excessive amount of darkness within you."

Aurora gaped. What did he mean?

"The dark side prevails just as strong as the light. And it will overpower you!"

"No," said Aurora at finding some courage to speak. "I won't use the dark side."

She couldn't see, but she knew he was scowling. "You will," he said as if it was a fact. "The Force knows what it needs. You will become ours... or you will die."

Though Aurora was nearly beyond speaking from petrifaction, she snipped "I won't".

Master Ren lunged towards her and Aurora flinched, falling onto her back. He leant in ever so slightly, towering above her, his menacing voice piercing every ounce of bravery left. "I wouldn't be smart, it will make you wish you were never born."

He turned and began to walk away. "Take her."

Kalin moved forward and he bent down, taking Aurora's arms and pulling her to her feet. His grip was, as usual, firm. But it was also gentle.

He ushered her along the hallways once again. Aurora kept her head bowed and stared at the ground. She didn't want to look at him. She felt emotions she couldn't place or decide upon. She felt betrayed, yes. But she felt afraid.

Kalin opened the door to the cell, and when he placed his hand on her lower back, Aurora fully expected to be thrown in. But she wasn't. He merely ushered her forward, his hand lingering for a moment too long before his fingers left her and she stumbled into the cell. And with the doors closing she collapsed onto the floor.

Dark. Everything was so dark. And uncomfortable. Not only in body but in mind. Everything was far too hot and why was he so uncomfortable. His name, being called over and over and over again... it was her voice that was calling... "Aurora!" he whispered.

Kalin sat up quickly! His lungs felt constricted and he was drenched in sweat. He exhaled deeply, trying to calm himself. His room was dark and only the soft humming of the ships engines was to be heard. He ran his hands through his hair and it stood all up on end.

He had dreamt of her again.

And it was uncomfortable knowing that she was in a cell at this very moment, bloody, hurting, and scared.

He rubbed his face again and stood up from his wet bed. He went across the room and splashed his face with water and then put on a shirt.

He knew his masters ways, and he knew Aurora. The outcome wouldn't be good.

Aurora found herself tied up against a standard interrogation chair, bound so she couldn't move.

Troopers had hauled her to a new room, one Aurora knew to be an interrogation chamber, and generously strapped her in. The light was blinding and the chair wretchedly uncomfortable. There she had waited until Kylo Ren had arrived, Kalin towed behind, this time both men mask-less.

"Now, sweet child," snapped Kylo in a horrific tone, his eyes wild, "what do you say we have a talk."

"'Bout the weather?" Aurora murmured.

"Don't be sarcastic, it won't get you anywhere," hissed Kylo. "Now, how about you give me some information. It's simple. Where is your Resistance base?"

"I don't know," said Aurora.

"Don't you? Let's see if that's true." Kylo lifted his hand and Aurora began feeling a pressure around her head. It grew and steadily began to ache as Kylo's fingers clenched tighter, tighter, all until Aurora's head felt it may as well explode. She shrieked in agony at the horrific feeling of her skull being nearly crushed. He pulled his hand away suddenly and Aurora's head fell back her eyes rolled back into her head.

"She's weak! She needs to use the darkness inside! She has so much darkness within her. Use it girl!" Kylo screamed.

But Aurora couldn't use it. She was on the brink of unconsciousness from such intense pain, and would've been better off so.

A comm on Kylo's belt blipped and he froze. He shakily inhaled through his nose, his veins practically bursting. "Continue with the interrogation."

Kalin looked to Aurora as Kylo strolled past him and left.

Aurora felt dizzy. She could feel the weight of her head more than anything, as it felt almost as if it was bruised from the inside. Then a cool hand moved the itchy locks of hair out of her face. She inhaled sharply, surprised at a gentle touch.

And then something touched her lip and she jerked back. But a soothing voice hushed her. Water was forced down her throat. Though it was initially uncomfortable, it felt so good to have relief. She gasped for breath when the cup was removed. She felt even more groggy now, but her senses were aware of a familiar person next to her. Kalin touched her cheek again, gently. She heard him exhale a deep sigh through his nose. And this was her last acknowledgment before blacking out... again.

Aurora was there before him. She was huddled on the ground, on the dirt. Her head was down and resting on her knees, where her arms were wrapped tightly around her legs. She was crying, and Kalin felt horrible. He must comfort her. He moved forward and knelt in front of her, gently petting the top of her head. She murmured something unintelligible then cringed. Kalin pulled his hand back quickly. "Aurora," he murmured.

She lifted her head and on her cheek was a huge smear of blood. "Kalin," she whispered.

Before he could react, she cringed deeply and grappled her stomach, letting out a whimper.

"What happened? Aurora what?"

"You... you did this..." she cried.

Kalin jerked awake. Panting, he felt a bead of sweat roll off his forehead. He was grappling the blankets on either side of his body and his heart was racing.

After a moment of laying here panting, he shook his head, trying to fall asleep again. But to no avail. For awhile Kalin tossed and turned. No position was comfortable. Everything felt off. He couldn't find the peace in his head like he always had. The pure acceptance of his situation. The calm chaos he always had was gone, leaving what felt like insanity. He turned and sat up at the edge of the bunk.

He lit a cigarette, and inhaled deeply, ran his hand through his hair then exhaled.

She was weak and didn't have the means to heal. She needed a break. But he also knew his master didn't care. He was going to work her until she either talked... or died.

Kalin and Kylo entered the chamber. Aurora, in the interrogation chair, was motionless, head resting back.

"The coordinates were useless!" Kylo hollered in rage. He stomped up to Aurora and drew his lightsaber and put it up to Aurora's neck.

Aurora gasped, eyes wide.

"It was empty space with nothing in sight, you useless girl!" He drew the saber a little closer, any closer and it would sever her skin. He held it there for a good long minute, then the blade went dead. He put the hilt on his belt after a moment.

Aurora exhaled shakily.

"You are useless. Did you honestly think you could give us false coordinates and get away with it? Did you expect the Resistance forces to magically be there? You are a stupid child!"

Aurora looked up with a snarky smirk on her tired face. Then woozily grinned. "I may be a stupid child, but at least I'm not a psychotic ass bent on galaxy domination."

Smack! Aurora was dizzily slapped hard across her face by an enraged Kylo. Aurora snorted out blood that spattered on her legs and the floor.

"Now... You are going to be a good little girl and tell me where your precious Resistance forces are really hiding."

"I don't know," murmured Aurora, her voice stuffy from her blood filled nose.

"Oh yes you do, small child!" Kylo's fists tightened. He turned away and walked around the room for a moment.

Then he stopped and gripped Aurora's head with the force. As his hand tightened into a fist, Aurora moaned louder.

"Should we not let her conserve her strength?" asked Kalin blankly, talking for the first time.

Kylo looked down at Aurora, continuing to slowly and painfully tighten his grip. "She'll either tell us what she knows, or she will die. It's up to her to divulge the information. She's bringing this pain upon herself." Kylo continued. Aurora began to scream from the pain.

Behind Kylo, Kalin creased his brows and frowned. What was he feeling? Remorse. This wasn't a part of his idea. He wasn't supposed to feel bad about this. He wasn't supposed to want to shove Kylo out of the way and take Aurora off that wretched contraption. He shouldn't want to hold her and- He lifted his head quickly when Aurora gasped. He hadn't been watching. And he didn't want to. Kalin turned and left. He briskly strolled down the halls, hands behind his back and cloak streaming with him.

But no matter how strong and elegant he looked, he was falling apart inside. He couldn't get her out of his head. Her pain was horrible, he knew, and it was his doing. He brought her to this. He had caused this pain on her now and when she'd fell under his custody. He'd wanted that intel just as bad as Kylo. The difference was, when Kalin knew Aurora's stubborn tongue wouldn't share her knowledge, he'd stopped. He accepted the fact that Aurora would die before divulging her information. Kylo didn't...

Or maybe... maybe Aurora didn't know anything... Maybe she wasn't lying when she'd given them empty space coordinates. Perhaps the fleet had fled to another part of space and Aurora had broken and given all she'd had. If that was the case, Aurora had no choice but to fall under the torture.

Kalin entered his quarters and began to undress. He pulled off his cloak and his tunic. The cold air pricked his skin and he inhaled slowly.

As he leant over the sink, washing his face, he vividly recalled their time time spent together. Every time he looked at her, every expression she'd give. Her sweet little grin, ever trustful.

Kalin slammed his hands down on the sink and looked up into the reflection of his face, staring deeply into his own eyes.

"Aurora," he thought, "didn't have a choice. But he did."

Everything felt hazy. Everything stung and ached. Her head felt fuzzy and pounded all at once. She blinked a few times trying desperately to will her eyes to stay open. Everything was quiet. It felt good now. But she knew she'd been unconscious for awhile. And that maybe he'd be back to whip her more soon. He wasn't a friendly man. Aurora shook her head, agreeing with herself. Then she nodded. Trying to think straight at all, at this point, was almost impossible. She had a few small bloody puncture marks on her arm from the needle, where the drug had been administered... was it three times? She sure felt it. She grinned randomly and giggled.

As her vision randomly came to focus, Aurora saw Kalin, close to her. His hazel eyes so deep and pretty. His brows were drawn together tightly, he looked concerned. But Aurora didn't pick this up. She merely grinned dimly. "Kalin..."

"Shhh," he hushed.

Then she felt a terrible stinging sensation and a cold on her nose. "No stop..." she murmured, trying to pull her head back.

"I have to clean the blood," whispered Kalin.

Aurora's eyes widened. "What blood?"

"The blood that came out of your nose."

Aurora narrowed her eyes. "Isn't it supposed to stay up my nose?"

"You'd think," said Kalin, pursing his lips.

After a moment of silence, Aurora spoke. "I don't feel good, Kalin. I think we were supposed to go home. I was supposed to keep you there with me."

"I told you, they won't take a dark sider," said Kalin.

"No," Aurora gently shook her head against the rag Kalin was dabbing her nose with, "Not for them, for me."

"For you?"

She gently nodded. "Because I love you. And you need to stay with me."

Kalin clenched the rag in his hand fiercely. "You shouldn't, I'm a bad person."

"You may be, but not inside. I know."

Kalin narrowed his eyes, his brows drawing together. "How would you know?"

"I'm a force user too, Kalin." She gave him a spacey smile. "I know."

Despite himself, he gave her a smirk in return.

And then he left. And as he strolled down the dark hallways he prepared himself for what was to come.

He knew what he needed to do now.

End

Why, Kalin seems pretty unsure of all of this doesn't he? How could he ever fix this?
