"No, not just girls."

Saint Luke's Cathedral, London, England

The cathedral was packed with mourners. The pews were full with people and they were all squished together, a wave of black in the beautiful cathedral. The choir began singing as the coffin was carried in by the six pallbearers. Steve was one of the six carrying the coffin. And, for once, he wasn't trying to keep it together. His eyes were red, and his breath was trembling as he walked down the aisle.

The altar was ladened with flowers, candles and a framed photo of young Peggy Carter wearing her military uniform – the same uniform Steve had first met her in.

Margaret 'Peggy' Carter

Karina was sat at the front pew in between Sam and Steve. Steve had asked her to come and Karina wasn't going to deny her best friend the support he needed to get through the funeral. The Accords could wait.

"And now," the Priest began, "I would like to invite Sharon Carter to come up and say a few words."

Karina had glanced down for a moment but looked up when Sam nudged her arm. She frowned at him and he nodded at the podium. Karina's frown deepened and she nudged Steve's arm.

Steve looked up and she directed him to the podium. And Steve's face matched hers and Sam's.

Agent 13 was Sharon Carter.

Sharon Carter was Agent 13.

Whichever way you looked at it, they were the same person.

Sharon looked out at the cathedral. "Margaret Carter was known to most as a founder of SHIELD… but I just knew her as Aunt Peggy."

Steve took a surprised breath and Karina's eyebrows raised. Now that she looked at Sharon – actually looked at her – she could see Peggy within her. And the way she stood up for herself when Pierce tried to take over was all Peggy.

"She had a photograph in her office," Sharon continued. She chuckled fondly. "Aunt Peggy standing next to JFK. As a kid, that was pretty cool. But it was a lot to live up to. Which is why I never told anyone we were related."

Sharon's gaze fell onto Steve. She gave him the tiniest smile before continuing.

"I asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage in a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either. And she said, compromise where you can. But where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move… it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye and say

"'No, you move'."

Steve didn't look up from staring at the ground. Yet he knew who was quietly approaching him. "When I came out of the ice, I thought everyone I had known was gone. Then I found out that she was alive. I was just lucky to have her."

Natasha stopped next to him. "She had you back, too."

Steve looked up at Natasha and sighed. "Who else signed?"

"Tony. Rhodey. Vision," Natasha replied. "They're working on re-writing the part that excludes Karina but until then…"

Steve nodded. "TBD. Clint?"

"Says he's retired," Natasha replied, smiling slightly.

Steve nodded. "Wanda?"

"Like Karina. TBD." Natasha looked down for a moment. "I'm off to Vienna for the signing of the Accords. There's plenty of room on the jet. I'm dropping Karina off in New York before I go."

Steve sighed and bowed his head.

Natasha gave him a pressed lip smile. "Just because it's the path of least resistance doesn't mean it's the wrong path. Staying together is more important than how we stay together."

Natasha knew she sounded like she was trying to convince herself. And she was. She was trying to convince herself that it was the right thing to do even when it went against every single one of her principles.

"What are we giving up to do it?" Steve asked quietly. Natasha sighed and bowed her head as Steve shook his head. "I'm sorry, Nat. I can't sign it."

Natasha smiled sadly. "I know."

Steve looked up at her. "Then what are you doing here?"

"I didn't want you to be alone."

Steve sniffled, his eyes stinging as the tears came once again.

Natasha put a hand on Steve's arm. "Come here."

Steve let Natasha pull him into a hug. He clung to her as he tried not to sob but feeling Natasha gently rub his back and whisper that it was ok had him falling apart.

Karina was nursing a glass of white wine as she sat at the hotel bar, still in the black velvet dress she'd worn to Peggy's funeral. She'd untied her hair and let the curls fall down and just sit there.

"Are you alright?" Steve asked quietly, sliding into the seat next to Karina.

Karina chuckled humourlessly. "My entire existence on this planet is threatened by over a thousand pages of rules and laws someone decided to call the Accords. The world is turning against Wanda and, sometime soon, they will turn on me. Because I, like Wanda, am an enhanced individual as well as an immigrant." Karina picked up her glass and took a long sip. "And we all know how the United States of America treat immigrants."

Steve sighed and put a hand on Karina's arm, rubbing his thumb soothingly over the skin. "What are you going to do?"

"I have to sign it," Karina said quietly. "No offence, Steve, but there's a lot more at stake for me than there is for you. I don't sign… I potentially get kicked off this planet or arrested. I refuse to sign it for Asgard, however. I refuse for that to even be mentioned."

"You're thinking of going back up there, aren't you?" Steve asked.

Karina shrugged. "I honestly do not know what to do, Steve. This is so much bigger than just the Avengers. It's universal." She groaned and dropped her head onto the bar top. Steve moved his hand to her back.

"Karina, you know what you need to do, darling," Steve said softly.

Karina lifted her head. "And if I do that… what then? What if whilst I'm gone everything goes to shit and I can never come back? What if you, Sam, Wanda or anyone else gets arrested and locked up?"

"Then we'll manage," Steve said reassuringly. "We've come this far." He paused for a moment. "But, should I… we need you. What do I do?"

Karina looked at him with a cheeky smile. "Yell at the sky for me."

Asgard

The bright rainbow lights slowly faded as Karina stepped through the Bifrost and into the Observatory.

She stared at the man who was standing at the sword. "Who the hell are you?!"

"I'm Skurge," he replied, frowning. "Vanaheim?"

Karina shook her head and pursed her lips as she shrugged. "Nope. Sorry. Where's Heimdall?"

"Ah, the traitor," Skurge replied, nodding.

"Traitor?!" Karina exclaimed.

Skurge nodded again. "Odin charged him with negligence of duty but he vanished before the trial."

"Right," Karina said slowly. "So… you're now in charge?"

"Well, yeah. I'm the guy with the sword," Skurge said, gesturing to the sword.

Karina shook her head, completely confounded by Skurge and the announcement that Heimdall was a traitor and everything else that had happened in the past day.

"Right, well, I'm gonna just… go now," Karina said, walking towards the exit of the Observatory.

"Hang on, hang on," Skurge said, halting Karina as he stepped in front of her. "I need to announce your arrival."

Karina sighed. "Since when?"

"Odin's orders."

"Ahuh, Odin's orders, sure. See, Skurge? It is Skurge isn't it?" Karina asked.

"Yes, it's Skurge," Skurge replied.

"See, Skurge, I'm not actually here," Karina said, waving a hand around. "I'm just visiting to see a friend."

"Yes, but Odin needs –"

"I'm not planning on going anywhere near my father," Karina cut in, shaking her head. "Don't worry. I'll be here a few hours and then I'll leave."

Skurge began speaking and turned around to look at the sword. Karina waved a hand, a purple portal appeared, and she disappeared through it before Skurge could notice.

" – and…." Skurge trailed off, looking around and frowning. "Where the hell did, she go?"

The forests around Asgard were beautiful. The majority of people lived in the citadel near to the palace. Very few actually lived in the forests. There were a few cabins dotted around the vast forest but otherwise it was empty.

Karina didn't know why she disappeared off to here. She hardly ever went to the forests, but she felt drawn to them.

And was secretly hoping Heimdall was somewhere around here too.

She was still wearing the black dress she'd worn to Peggy's funeral and was grateful she wasn't a novice to wearing high heeled shoes anymore. The forest made it difficult to walk in the shoes, but she couldn't be bothered to take them off.

After wandering around the trees for a bit, Karina made her way to the river that sliced through the ground and perched herself on a rock near the shoreline of the river.

Karina pulled out her phone and swiped open the camera, taking a few photos of the area to show to Natasha and Wanda when she got back. Wanda had become fascinated with Asgard and the numerous stories Karina had told her over the past year. She loved to hear about the golden palace and the exquisite dresses the women wore.

Wanda listened to every word and Karina had even given the girl the few dresses she had from Asgard – Karina wasn't going to wear them again.

Asgard had been her home for over a thousand years. But Earth – New York – felt more like her home than Asgard had ever. Because in New York she wasn't a princess. She wasn't royalty or the daughter of Odin or anything like that.

She was simply Karina, Goddess of Fire.

And she was allowed to be herself with her sexuality, her sarcasm and how she dressed. There were no expectations of her, and it felt amazing. She felt truly free.

Karina looked up and narrowed her eyes at the trees opposite her. She chuckled. "You know, you blend in remarkably well with the trees, Heimdall, but your eyes kinda give you away," Karina called.

Branches snapped as Heimdall emerged from the trees. "You're getting good," he said, stepping down to the riverbed. "Why are you here?"

"What? Am I not allowed to visit?" Karina asked, stretching her legs out in front of her.

"Not when I know how much happier you are on Earth in New York," Heimdall replied, stepping over the river and joining Karina. "What's going on?"

"You're one to ask, Heimdall," Karina said, budging over on her rock so that he could sit down next to her. "Traitor."

"Ah. Skurge."

"Yes. Skurge," Karina replied, chuckling. "The lovely Skurge."

Heimdall looked at Karina, his golden eyes all but staring into her soul. "So, what's troubling you, young one?"

"You know," Karina said, looking at him. "I know you already know. Please, please, don't make me explain it again."

"You want me to make a decision for you," Heimdall replied. "To give you all the answers."

"Ideally, yes!" Karina exclaimed. She groaned, burying her head in her hands. "People keep telling me that I know what to do… but I honestly don't. I've no idea what I'm meant to do."

Steve was sat in an office chair in a glass walled office in the middle of the room. He was watching every single security camera on the wall, watching Bucky in his pod.

"Hey, you wanna see something cool?" Tony asked, stepping into the office. "I pulled something from Dad's archives. Felt timely."

Tony set a black box on the table and opened it, revealing two fountain pens. Steve eyed them and internally sighed.

"FDR signed the Lend-Lease bill with these in 1941. Provided support to the Allies when they needed it most," Tony explained.

"Some would say it brought our country closer to war," Steve replied.

"See? If not for these, you wouldn't be here," Tony scoffed. "I'm trying to… what do you call it? That's an olive branch. Is that what you call it?"

"Is Pepper here?" Steve asked, changing the subject. "I didn't see her."

Tony sighed. "We're kinda… well, not kind…"

"Pregnant?"

Tony scoffed. "No. Definitely not. We're taking a break. It's nobody's fault."

"I'm so sorry, Tony. I didn't know," Steve apologised.

"Few years ago, I almost lost her, so I trashed all my suits. Then, we had to mop up HYDRA… and then Ultron. My fault. And then, and then, and then, I never stopped. Because the truth is I don't wanna stop. I don't wanna lose her. I thought maybe the Accords could split the difference." Tony stood up and wandered over to the window. "In her defence, I'm a handful. Yet Dad was a pain in the ass, but he and Mom always made it work."

"You know, I'm glad Howard got married. I only knew him when he was young and single," Steve replied.

"Oh, really?" Tony raised his eyebrows and turned to look at Steve. "You two knew each other? He never mentioned that. Maybe only a thousand times. God, I hated you," Tony muttered as he put his jacket back on.

Steve frowned slightly at Tony's comment but let it slide. "I don't mean to make things difficult."

"I know, because you're a very polite person," Tony replied.

"If I see a situation pointed south… I can't ignore it," Steve said. "Sometimes I wish I could."

"No, you don't."

Steve smiled thinly at Tony. "No, I don't. Sometimes…."

"Sometimes I wanna punch you I your perfect teeth," Tony interrupted. "But I don't wanna see you gone. We need you, Cap. So far, nothing's happened that can't be undone, if you sign. We can make the last twenty-four hours legit. Barnes gets transferred to an American psych-centre… instead of a Wakandan prison."

Steve frowned thoughtfully. He reached over and plucked a pen from the box. He pushed his chair back and paced. He turned to face Tony. "I'm not saying it's impossible, but there would have to be safeguards."

"Sure. Once we put out the PR fire, those documents can be amended. I'd file a motion to have you, Karina and Wanda reinstated – "

"Wanda? Karina?" Steve frowned. "What about them?"

"Well, obviously Karina's not on their due to… reasons – I'm working to get it fixed but it's slow moving. Until then… she's confined to the compound, just like Wanda is. Vision's keeping Wanda company."

Steve groaned. "Oh god, Tony! Every time. Every time I think you see things the right way – "

"What?" Tony asked, frowning. "It's a one hundred acres with a lap pool. It's got a screening room. There's worse ways to protect people."

"Protection? Is that how you see this? This is protection? It's internment, Tony," Steve snapped. "For both of them!"

Tony shrugged. "Neither of them are a US citizen."

"Oh, come on, Tony!"

"And they don't grant visas to weapons of mass destruction!"

"They're kids!" Steve exclaimed.

"GIVE ME A BREAK!" Tony yelled. "I'm doing what has to be done… to stave off something worse."

Steve nodded faintly. "You keep telling yourself that." Steve set the pen down. "Hate to break up the set."

The door swung open as Steve left. Tony sighed and turned to look at the numerous screens in the control room that were showing Bucky.

He glanced over at the pens and tutted.

Heimdall eyed Karina thoughtfully. "Out of everyone, you were the last person I expected to come back."

"Didn't have much choice," Karina muttered, unbuttoning the sleeve of her dress. "These Accords threaten Asgard just as much as they do the Avengers. Not to mention the fact I'm not a US citizen."

"Odin won't sign them."

"I'm not asking him to," Karina replied quickly. "All I'm asking is for someone to give me permission to sign these Accords the moment I am allowed – whether that's on my behalf or on Asgard's behalf."

"No one's stopping you, Karina," Heimdall said. "You are your own person. You can sign them."

"And if my signature means those rules apply to any Asgardian – or anyone from the Nine Realms – who happens to come down to Earth? What if the rules endanger their lives and my signature gives the US government and the United Nations permission to arrest them? Then I'm at fault. I'm to blame."

Heimdall sighed thoughtfully. "We all know no one from Asgard, nor the Nine Realms, would go down to Earth voluntarily. These… Accords seem to be determined to bring you down because you're not from Earth."

Karina snorted. "Yeah. They're determined to bring Wanda down too because she's from a country that isn't America. We both have similar powers and we're considered…"

"Weapons of mass destruction?"

Karina frowned. "What makes you say that?" Heimdall kept silent. "Heimdall."

"You know I can see all Nine Realms."

"Heimdall, spit it out."

"Tony Stark… he said it in a conversation with Captain Rogers."

Karina stared at him. "Tony? Tony said that about me. He called me a weapon of mass destruction?"

"Not just you – Wanda too," Heimdall added.

Karina was speechless. Utterly speechless. Tony. Of all people, Tony. Someone she thought was her friend.

Chaos.

Utter chaos had broken loose.

As had Bucky.

Tony was nursing a black eye and a bruised ego as well as a headache from having to deal with the fallout of everything.

"I don't suppose you have any idea where they are?" Ross asked as he walked into the office.

"We will," Tony said. "GSG-9's got the borders covered. Recon's flying 24/7. They'll get a hit. We'll handle it."

"You don't get it, Stark. It's not yours to handle. It's clear you can't be objective. I'm putting Special Ops on this," Ross replied.

"What happens when the shooting starts?" Natasha asked from her chair. "What, do you kill Steve Rogers?"

Ross shrugged. "If we're provoked. Barnes would've been eliminated in Romania if it wasn't for Rogers. There are dead people who would be alive now. Feel free to check my math."

"All due respect, you're not going to solve this with boys in bullets, Ross," Tony countered. "You gotta let us bring them in."

Ross frowned. "How would that end any differently from the last time?"

"Because this time, I won't be wearing loafers and a silk shirt," Tony snapped. "72 hours, guaranteed."

"36 hours," Ross countered. "Barnes. Rogers. Wilson. Odinsdottir."

Tony nodded as Ross left. "Thank you, sir." Tony exhaled and slumped forward. He looked up at Natasha. "My left arm is numb, is that normal?"

Natasha got up and walked to Tony. She put a hand on his shoulder and patted it gently. "You alright?"

"Always," Tony replied. He sighed. "36 hours. We don't even know where Karina is!"

"We're seriously understaffed," Natasha added.

"Oh yeah," Tony said, sitting up. "It'd be great if we had a Hulk right about now. Any shot?"

Natasha smirked slightly. "No. You really think he'd be on our side?"

"No."

"I have an idea," Natasha said suddenly.

"Me too." Tony looked up at her. "Where's yours?"

Natasha frowned. "Downstairs. Where's yours?"

Tony smiled slightly and turned his chair.

"So, I sign them, then?" Karina asked.

She'd stood up and had begun pacing up and down the riverbank. She was stressing. A lot.

"Karina, I can't –"

"Don't give me that crap, Heimdall," Karina said, whirling around to face him. "Just, for once, can someone tell me what to do?"

Heimdall sighed. "It is my understanding that you don't have much choice but to sign the Accords. If you want to remain on Earth, you have to sign them. And running away isn't going to solve things, Karina."

Karina swallowed down the lump in her throat and put a hand on her stomach. "Why does everything go wrong?" She asked softly, her voice cracking. "Why?"

Wanda looked up as an explosion in the distance rumbled the building and lit up the room. She stood up and walked up to the window and looked out of it.

"What is it?" She asked as Vision floated up beside her.

"Stay here, please," Vision said.

Vision floated through the wall and Wanda was left alone.

She turned around and wrapped her magic around a kitchen knife, throwing it across the room. Wanda halted it in front of Clint's head.

"Guess I shoulda knocked," Clint said, knocking the knife to the side.

"Oh my god!" Wanda exclaimed, approaching him. "What are you doing here?"

"Disappointing my kids," Clint replied. He drew an arrow from the quiver on his back and fired it at one side of the room. He grabbed another, spun around and fired it at the other side. "I'm supposed to go water-skiing. Cap needs our help. Come on."

He grabbed Wanda's hand and they began walking out the room.

"Clint!"

Wanda and Clint stopped in their tracks at the sound of Vision's voice.

"You should not be here," Vision said, floating forwards.

Clint turned around. "Really? I retire, for what, like five minutes and it all goes to shit."

"Please consider the consequences of your actions," Vision replied, still floating forward.

Clint cocked his head to the side for a second. "Okay, they're considered."

The two arrows Clint had fired moments earlier jumped to life and snatched Vision into a forefield of electricity.

"Ok, we gotta go," Clint said, turning around and jogging off. He stopped, realising Wanda wasn't following.

"I've caused enough trouble," Wanda said softly, pulling the sleeves of her jumper over her hands.

Clint sighed and frowned. He turned and jogged back from the door. "You gotta help me, Wanda. Look, you wanna mope, go to high school. You wanna make amends, you get off your ass." Clint looked up. "Shit."

The forcefield broke and Vision moved forward. Clint drew an arrow and fired it, but Vision deflected it easily. Vision punched Clint to the floor, but Clint recovered and rolled into a fighting stance.

"I knew I should've stretched," he muttered as he pulled out a baton and extended it.

Clint jumped up and aimed the baton at Vision, but it went straight through the android. He tried again and Vision just let it move through him. Clint tried to punch Vision, but the android blocked every single one.

He tried the baton again, but Vision made himself solid and the baton snapped in half. Clint looked at the broken baton and sighed as he chucked it away. He went to kick Vision, but it went straight through him. Using Clint's wobble, Vision grabbed Clint into a tight headlock.

"Clint, you can't overpower me," Vision said slowly.

"I know I can't," Clint said. He glanced at Wanda. "But she can."

Vision looked up at Wanda as he heard her power thrumming.

"Vision, that's enough," Wanda said, forming a ball of red between her hands. "Let him go. I'm leaving."

"I can't let you," Vision said sadly, looking at Wanda.

Wanda stretched her hands apart and Vision's arm turned transparent, letting Clint slip from his grasp and fall to the floor.

"I'm sorry," Wanda replied as she stretched her hands further apart. Her power wrapped around Vision and she slowly forced him to his knees.

"If you do this," Vison grunted. "They will never stop being afraid of you."

"I can't control their fear," Wanda replied. "Only my own."

She stepped closer to Vision; the power wrapped around him growing brighter. Wanda threw her hands down and Vision crashed through the floor and several floors beneath that. Wanda let go once Vision couldn't be seen and stood over the hole.

"Oh…" Clint whistled, looking at the hole. "Come on," he said, grabbing Wanda's hand. "We got one more stop." He frowned. "Where's Karina?"

"Not here," Wanda replied, frowning as well. "No one's seen her since she left for London with Steve and Sam."

"Alright, we'll sort this out later," Clint muttered.

Karina had sat back down on her rock and was slowly throwing pebbles into the water.

"The Accords are tearing this team apart," she said softly. "I just… I don't agree with them, but I know that in order to have any control and to keep doing our jobs we have to sign them. But it goes against everything I stand for and I feel like I'm constantly trying to convince myself that it's the right thing to do."

Heimdall hummed thoughtfully. He'd known Karina since she'd been born. It was hard for him to see her like this, to see her hurt and in pain. But he also knew that she usually figured things out herself.

"Technically I can't even sign them yet – I'm not allowed." Karina stood up again. "You know, if I go back, I'll probably be arrested or put under house arrest."

Karina began pacing once again and climbed up onto the bank and began clambering over the branches and fallen trees.

"I wonder if they're all having this same mental struggle," Karina muttered.

Steve drove his battered old little car up onto the sixth level of the parking garage. The tyres squealed as he went around the corner and he came to a sudden halt in a parking space next to a grey van.

Steve climbed out the car and approached the van as Clint walked around.

"Cap," Clint said, smiling.

Steve held out his hand. "You know I wouldn't have called if I had any other choice."

Clint shook his hand. "Hey man, you're doing me a favour. Besides," Clint looked behind him at Wanda, "I owe a debt."

Steve looked at Wanda. "Thanks for having my back."

She shrugged. "It was time to get off my ass."

"Any sign of Karina?" Clint asked.

Steve sighed and shook his head. "None. She said she was going home but I haven't heard nor seen her since. If she does come back… well, she'll be in the same position as we are." Steve nodded at the van. "How about our other recruit?"

Clint turned to the van and grabbed the door handle. "He's rarin' to go. Had to put a little coffee in him, but… he should be good."

Clint pulled open the van's sliding door and Scott Land sat up startled. He blinked owlishly around at the people in front of him as he climbed out.

"What time zone is this?" He groaned.

"Come on," Clint said, ushering him out the van. "Come on."

Scott stared in awe at Steve. "Captain America," he said, shaking his hand furiously.

Steve smiled. "Mr. Lang."

"It's an honour. I'm shaking your hand too long," Scott said, letting go as soon as he realised. "Wow! This is awesome! Captain America." He turned and looked at Wanda. "I know you, too. You're great!" He turned back to Steve and felt his shoulders. "Jeez. Ah, look, I wanna sat, I know you know a lot of super people, so… thanks for thinking of me." He looked at Sam over Steve's shoulder. "Hey, man!"

Sam nodded. "What's up, Tic Tac?"

"Uh, good to see you. Look, what happened last time when I …"

"It was a great audition," Sam said, cutting Scott off, "but it'll never happen again."

"They tell you what we're up against?" Steve asked Scott.

"Something about some… psycho-assassins?" Scott replied, frowning.

"We're outside the law on this one," Steve explained solemnly. "So, if you come with us, you're a wanted man."

Scott chuckled and shrugged. "Yeah, well, what else is new?"

"We should get moving," Bucky called.

Clint nodded. "We got a chopper lined up."

The PA burst into life and a siren went off. A man's voice echoed out in German. This is an emergency. 'All passengers must evacuate the airport immediately.'

Bucky looked up at the ceiling. "They're evacuating the airport," he explained, noticing the confused looks.

"Stark," Sam said, sighing.

Scott frowned. "Stark?"

Steve straightened and looked at the people gathered in front of him. "Suit up."

The sun was slowly setting over Asgard and the creatures that lived in the forest had all begun poking their heads out their dens and snuffling around.

Karina had, once again, returned to her rock and was sitting with her head on her knees, thinking. Heimdall had made himself a little fire and was poking it with a stick, a watchful eye on Karina.

"Your father," Heimdall said slowly.

"What about him?" Karina asked, lifting her head. "I'm not going to see him. I don't particularly want to deal with the issue of treason with him."

"No, no, I don't mean that," Heimdall replied with a chuckle. "He's just been acting a bit odd recently. Writing plays, eating grapes, building a monument to Loki."

Karina frowned. "A monument to Loki. Loki." She scoffed. "Of course."

Heimdall lifted his head up suddenly, frowning. He tilted his head to the side. "Karina. I think you're needed back on Earth."

"Why?"

"Because your friends are about to fight one another."

Steve spotted the chopper on a private runway. He began jogging towards it when a electric disabler slammed onto it, ruining the helicopter. Steve looked up and sighed.

Tony and Rhodey descended from the sky, dressed in their armour.

"Wow, it's so weird how you run into people at the airport," Tony said. He looked at Rhodey as his helmet folded back . "Don't you think that's weird."

"Definitely weird," Rhodey replied.

"Hear me out, Tony. That doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all of this," Steve said. He doubted Tony would listen, but he had to try.

A shadow fell over Steve as T'Challa leapt over the truck behind him and landed in front of Steve.

"Captain," T'Challa said, nodding.

Steve bowed ever so slightly. "Your highness."

"Anyway," Tony called, getting the conversation back on track, "Ross gave me thirty-six hours to bring you in. That was twenty-four hours ago. Can you help a brother out?"

"You're after the wrong guy," Steve replied.

"Your judgement is askew. Your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday," Tony countered.

"And there are five more super-soldiers just like him. I can't let the doctor find them first, Tony," Steve said, shaking his head, "I can't."

"Steve."

Steve turned around at the sound of Natasha's voice and a flicker of regret and pain went across his face as he realised, he was potentially going to have to fight her.

"You know what's about to happen," Natasha said slowly. "Do you really wanna punch your way out of this one?"

Steve turned back to look at Tony. Tony glanced down and sighed.

"Alright, I've run out of patience." He cupped his hands around his mouth. "UNDEROOS!"

A web landed onto Steve's shield and it pulled the shield out of Steve's grip and bound his hands together. Peter Parker flipped over and landed on top of a nearby airport vehicle, holding onto the shield.

Tony looked at him approvingly. "Nice job, kid."

"Thanks," Peter said, kneeling. "Well, I could've stuck the landing a little better. It's just a new suit… well, it's nothing, Mr Stark," he said quickly, not wanting to seem ungrateful, "it's – it's perfect, thank you."

Tony sighed. "Yeah, we don't really need to start a conversation."

"Okay." Peter saluted at Steve. "Cap… Captain. Big fan, Spider-Man."

"Yeah, we'll talk about it later," Tony said, waving a hand at Peter. "Just…"

"Hey everyone," Peter said, waving.

"Good job," Tony muttered, trying not to sigh in despair.

Steve looked between Peter and Tony. "You've been busy."

"And you've been a complete idiot," Tony snapped. "Dragging in Clint. 'Rescuing' Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. Losing Karina! Letting her disappear without warning! I'm trying…" Tony trailed off, forcing himself to calm down. "I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart."

"You did that when you signed," Steve replied.

A muscle in Tony's jaw jumped as he clenched it, staring at Steve. "Alright, we're done. You're gonna turn over Barnes, you're gonna tell us where Karina is and you're gonna come with us. NOW! Because it's us! Or a squad of J-SOC guys… with no compunction about being impolite." Tony sighed as Steve looked aside. "Come on."

"We found it. Their Quinjet's in hang five, north runway," Sam said, his voice appearing in Steve's ear.

Steve nodded once and held his hands up above his head. Clint fired an arrow from somewhere and it slice through the web. Tony put his helmet back on as he scanned the airport for Clint.

"Alright, Lang," Steve muttered.

Peter frowned as he saw something climb onto the rim of the shield. "Hey, guys, something…"

Scott un-shrunk himself and kicked Peter backwards, knocking him off his perch. He snatched up Steve's shield as Peter fell."

"Whoa. What – what the hell was that?" Rhodey asked, looking around.

Scott walked up to Steve and handed him his shield. "I believe this is yours, Captain America."

"Oh, great," Tony muttered. "Alright, there's two on the parking deck," he said, scanning the parking structure and spotting two people running. "One of them's Maximoff, I'm gonna grab her. Rhodey, you want to take Cap?"

Rhodey scanned the terminal as Tony took off towards the parking deck. "Got two in the terminal, Wilson and Barnes."

"Barnes is mine!" T'Challa growled.

Steve threw his shield at T'Challa and knocked him back to the ground.

Peter pressed a finger to his comms. "Hey, Mr. Stark, what should I do?"

"What we discussed. Keep your distance, web 'em up," Tony explained with a sigh.

"Okay, copy that!" Peter yelled as he shot out a web and pulled himself up into the air.

Scott had, somehow, ended up with Natasha.

"Look," he said, trying to be nice, "I really don't want to hurt you."

Natasha smirked. "I wouldn't stress about it."

She kicked Scott in the groin before he could react. Scott retaliated by shrinking down and throwing Natasha head over heels. Natasha groaned by zapped miniature Scott with a widow bite from her wrist. Miniature Scott flew back into the nearby truck and left a tiny dent in it.

In the terminal, Bucky looked up as something landed on the roof and began following them.

"What the hell is that?" He asked, looking up with a frown.

Sam groaned. "Everyone's got a gimmick now."

Peter swung through the glass roof and slammed into Sam, kicking him backwards. Bucky threw a punch at Peter with his metal arm, but Peter caught the fist. Bucky stared between his arm and Peter with wide eyes.

Peter, who seemed surprised at his own strength, gaped at Bucky's metal arm. "You have a metal arm?! That is awesome, dude!"

Sam had recovered and flew at Peter, picking him up and flying off with him.

"You have a right to remain silent!" Peter yelled, punching Sam's arm as he flew through the terminal.

Peter managed to get rid of Sam and swung after him through the terminal.

Back on the ground, Tony had managed to corner Wanda and Clint just outside the parking deck. He shot a rocket just behind them and it exploded. Wanda and Clint ducked down away from the raining debris.

Tony hovered in front of them as they stood up. "Wanda, I think you hurt Vision's feelings."

Wanda scoffed. "You locked me in my room."

"Okay, first that's an exaggeration. Second, I did it to protect you." Tony looked at Clint. "Hey, Clint."

Clint nodded at him. "Hey, man."

"Clearly retirement doesn't suit you. You got tired of shooting golf?" Tony asked, cocking his head.

Clint shrugged. "Well, I played eighteen, I shot eighteen. Just can't seem to miss."

Clint notched an arrow and fired it at Tony. Tony deflected it easily with one blast of his repulsor.

"First time for everything," Tony replied.

Clint smirked. "Made you look."

Tony jumped as a car slammed past him. He glanced up and dozens more were coming crashing down towards him. Wanda rowed her hands, throwing more and more cars off the parking lot with her red power until one crashed on top of Tony, leaving him buried underneath a pile of broken cars.

"Multiple contusions detected," FRIDAY said.

Tony groaned. "Yeah. I detected that too."

Back in the terminal, Peter was swinging his way through the rafters, chasing after Sam. Sam was flying backwards and firing at Peter. Peter came to a halt on a rafter for a moment and Sam blasted it apart, forcing Peter to swing again.

"Oh god," Peter muttered, sensing something was coming. Moments later a sign sliced through the air just above him.

Bucky, who'd just thrown the sign, ducked behind a pillar, hiding from Peter.

"Hey buddy, I think you lost this!" Peter yelled as he threw the sign back at Bucky.

Sam then flew back and kicked Peter off the rafters. Peter fired a web up to the ceiling and swung away from Sam. He then threw another web at Sam's wing pack, stopping it from working. Sam crashed into a sunglass kiosk and smashed through, rolling to a halt on the ground. He went to get up but Peter webbed his hand to the balcony railing.

Peter came to a halt on a rafter, crouching. He looked down at Sam. "Those wings carbon fiber?"

"Is this stuff coming out of you?" Sam retorted.

"That would explain the rigidity-flexibility ratio," Peter said, working this his mathematics aloud, "which, gotta say, that's awesome, man."

"I don't know if you've been in a fight before but there's usually not this much talking," Sam snapped, evidently frustrated by the web-slinger.

"Alright, sorry, my bad," Peter said, shrugging.

He threw a web up and swung down at Sam. Bucky jumped in front of Sam and Peter's kick sent them both crashing through the glass barrier and onto the floor below. Peter quickly webbed Bucky's metal arm to the ground and webbed Sam's hands together.

Peter clung to a nearby pillar and looked down at them. "Guys, look. I'd love to keep this up, but I've only got one job here today and I gotta impress Mr. Stark, so, I'm really sorry."

Sam, during Peter's speech, had managed to reach the device on his wrist and was tapping out orders to Redwing. Peter frowned as something attached itself to his arm.

"What the –" He abruptly cut himself off as Redwing flew past, dragging Peter behind. It and Peter smashed through the roof and Redwing dropped Peter in mid-air, sending the boy falling to the ground.

Bucky looked up at the ceiling. "You couldn't have done that earlier?"

Sam groaned. "I hate you."

Back on the ground, Steve, T'Challa and Rhodey were still hashing it out with one another. Steve kicked Rhodey out of the air and the spun around and punched T'Challa, sending the prince reeling backwards.

Rhodey landed and skidded across the ground. He stood up and growled as he realised his mace was snapped in two.

"Great," he muttered, throwing the ruined half to the side.

"Hey, Cap, heads up!" Scott ran up to Steve and threw him a miniaturised truck. "Throw it at this," Scott threw a disc into the air, "now!"

Steve threw the truck at the disc and it enlarged, tumbling towards Rhodey.

"Oh, come on!" Rhodey yelled as he threw himself to the side to avoid the falling truck.

The truck landed and immediately exploded into a large ball of fire. Black smoke tumbled up into the air as pieces of burning metal futtered down. Natasha threw herself out the way as the fire bloomed.

"Oh, man," Scott said, slightly embarrassed. "I thought it was a water truck." He glanced at Steve. "Uh… Sorry."

Rhodey grunted as he got up. "Alright. Now I'm pissed."

Tony landed and held a hand out to Natasha. She took it and let him pull her to her feet.

"Is this part of the plan?" Natasha asked, gesturing around at the disaster zone.

"Well, my plan was to go easy on them," Tony replied. "You wanna switch it up?"

The other half of the Avengers – making up of those who didn't want to sign the Accords and Scott – were all frantically trying to get to the hanger where the Quinjet was.

"There's our ride!" Clint exclaimed, spotting the wings of the Quinjet poking out from the edge of the hanger.

Steve waved a hand as his side all came together into a line. "Come on!"

The six of them skidded to a halt as a fizzing stream of energy sliced across their path. Steve looked up as Vision hovered over their heads.

"Captain Rogers," Vision called as he slowly descended to the ground. "I know you believe what you're doing is right. But for the collective good you must surrender now."

One by one, Tony's team arrived and came to stand in a line opposite Steve's team.

Rhodey, Peter, Vision, Natasha, Tony and T'Challa versus Sam, Scott, Clint, Wanda, Steve and Bucky.

Sam glanced at Steve. "What do we do, Cap?"

Steve's eyes narrowed as he stared ahead. "We fight."

Thunder rumbled overhead and Peter frowned, glancing up at the sky. The clouds were darkening drastically and beginning to swirl around.

"Uh, Mr. Stark," he called. "Is that meant to be happening?"

Tony looked up at the sky and his eyes narrowed. "FRIDAY?"

"Massive energy surge, boss," FRIDAY replied.

Everyone was looking around the airport as the sky continued to darken, thunder rumbled, and clouds swirled.

Bucky glanced at Steve. "What's going on?"

Steve sighed and there was regret in his voice, as if he knew what was going to be said. "Karina's back."

A beam of light shot down from the black clouds and smashed into the ground at the head of the No Man's Land that had been created by the two sides. Smoke curled off it as wind whipped around the airport.

The light faded, the clouds lightened, the sun came back out.

Karina was standing in the middle of the circle of runes that had been burnt into the ground, new armour on, sword in hand, glaring at the assembled heroes in front of her.

She took one step forward, her cape flapping behind her in the breeze. "I was gone for a week. And here you all are, in a German airport, fighting one another! What the hell happened?!"

The gathered Avengers just stared at Karina.

Tony eventually gathered himself together and cleared his throat. "Well, things got a bit out of hand –"

"No shit."

"- and Ross gave me thirty-six hours to bring them, and you, in," Tony finished. "Karina, where did you go? Ross was about to have my head because I lost you."

"What, because you lost your other weapon of mass destruction?" Karina asked, eyeing Tony carefully. Tony's mask slipped slightly, and Karina scoffed. "Yeah, I know." She looked behind Tony and frowned. "Why the hell is the spider dude here?"

"Hi, Miss Odinsdottir. It's a pleasure to meet you again," Peter said, waving.

"Not now," Tony hissed. "He's with us."

Karina raised her eyebrows. She turned to Scott. "And I'm assuming shrinking dude over there is on your team too, Steve."

"Sam brought him," Steve replied.

Karina snorted. "Yeah, course he did."

"Karina, where did you go?" Tony demanded, turning the conversation around. "Because I need an answer."

"I went home, Tony, to try and sort this Accords mess out," Karina snapped. "And I come back and find you all fighting one another over a document."

Steve looked up at her. "It's not as simple –"

"I know it isn't, Steve," Karina snapped, turning her glare to him. "I'm also acutely aware of the fact that the US government is after my head and that this," she waved a hand at the destruction they'd all caused, "isn't going to help any of us."

Tony sighed. "Karina, you're either with us, or you're against us. We don't have time for martyrs."

Karina chuckled humourlessly and smiled thinly. "You're forgetting, Stark. I grew up with Thor and Loki for brothers. I am terribly good at being a martyr and staying neutral." Her sword glinted dangerously in her hand and a faint purple engulfed her eyes. "I'm warning you, end this now."

"You know we can't do that, Karina," Steve said sadly. "Not with how things are."

"Not possible. Ross wants you all. It's either us or them," Tony added.

Karina nodded grimly. "Fine. Looks like I'm going to be stopping you all from killing each other."

She twirled her sword in her hand and took a step closer.

Natasha sighed, glancing at Karina before turning back to face the other side. "This is gonna end well."

The No Man's Land that had been created quickly got smaller and smaller as the two opposing sides closed in on one another.

Peter looked at Tony frantically. "They're not stopping!"

Tony's voice was grim in response. "And neither are we."

The opposing sides broke into a sprint and the distance shrunk even more. Tony and Rhodey flew up into the air, flying above everyone else. Steve brought his shield up as Tony came down at him with a punch.

Clint fired an arrow at Vision as Vision came down on him. Rhodey and Sam were flying around above the fight, deflecting the others fire power. T'Challa as engaged with Bucky, the two tied together in a brutal fight of anger and pain. Vision had moved on from Clint and was fighting Scott who kept shrinking up and down.

Somehow, Natasha and Clint had ended up fighting one another with their batons. Neither one was being particularly fierce with the other and they were both pulling their punches. Clint flipped Natasha onto her back and pinned him down with his bow.

"We're still friends, right?" Natasha asked, looking up at him.

Clint tilted his head. "Depends on how hard you hit me."

Natasha wrapped her legs around his neck and spun him around so that Clint was lying on the ground. Natasha raised her leg up to kick Clint in the head but it was stopped suddenly and glowed bright red. Natasha frowned and then let out a yelp as she was forced head over heels back onto the ground.

Clint looked up at Wanda in slight disbelief.

"You were pulling your punches," Wanda replied, shrugging.

Clint nodded sheepishly as Wanda moved on.

Karina jogged over to Natasha and pulled her to her feet. "You alright?"

Natasha nodded as she dusted her suit down and rolled her neck. "What are you doing?" She asked, nodding behind her at the chaos as Tony and Steve continued to fight.

Karina shrugged. "Stopping them from killing one another."

She turned to go but Natasha grabbed her wrist and spun her back to look at her.

"Karina. When they come, you'll be arrested," Natasha said quietly.

"I know," Karina replied. She gave Natasha a thin smile. "I will sign them. Whether I get a chance to is another matter."

"Don't say that –"

"I'm not a US citizen. I am… a weapon of mass destruction like Wanda. The US government hates us and I'm the one who vanished without a trace for a week." Karina raised her arms and shrugged. "Whatever happens to me, promise me, Nat, you'll look after them."

Natasha nodded. "I promise."

Karina smiled – a genuine one this time – and leant forward, kissing Natasha on the cheek. "See you on the other side of the war."

She pivoted on her heel and ran off towards the main fire fight leaving Natasha to stare after her sadly. T'Challa jumped off a nearby vehicle and leapt over Karina, landing in front of her in a crouch.

Karina slowed to a stop. She dropped down into a curtsey and then back up again. "Your Highness."

"Your Highness," T'Challa replied, bowing down. "This is not how I would've liked us to meet."

Karina chuckled. "No. If he knew, my father would be having a fit at my diplomacy to other members of royalty. I'm sorry for your loss, by the way."

T'Challa tilted his head to the side. "How did you know?"

"I have a friend who sees everything and everyone," Karina said, a knowing smile on her face. "He gave me an update before I came back."

Karina took a step back and spun her sword in her hand. "Now, are we going to have to fight one another, Your Highness, or will you let me carry on?"

T'Challa's claws glinted in the sunlight. He moved to the side and retracted them.

Karina tried not to show how relieved she was that she wasn't going to have to fight him. "Thank you," she said. She broke into a jog and headed in the direction Steve had disappeared in.

A beam of light crashed down in front of her and Karina ducked to the side. She looked up and Vision descended from on high.

"Oh for." She paused and took a deep breath in. "I suppose not having emotions is coming in handy right now, Vision."

"Karina. You can't fight this," Vision said, landing gracefully in front of her.

Karina frowned. "Who said I was. I'm willing to sign the moment I am allowed. But considering I'm an immigrant who ran away for a week, I don't think I'm in Ross's good books right now."

"If Secretary Ross tried anything, we would protect you," Vision replied.

"Yet here we are," Karina said grimly. "Our very own civil war." She looked down at her sword and chuckled. "You know, Vision, I've been trying to convince myself that sign the Accords is the right thing to do. That, in order to keep doing what I love, it's right. But I can't help but think that this all feels far more like fear than freedom."

Vision looked at Karina with a calculating gaze. "There's an awful lot at stake should you not sign."

"Believe me, I know," Karina snapped, looking up at him. She took a step back and gripped her sword tightly. "Vision, don't make me fight you."

"I can't let you go, Karina," Vision said. He took a step back.

"And I can't let you kill my family," Karina said. She took a step back and raised her sword.

The gem in Vision's head glowed brightly and Karina threw up a shield of purple in defence. The beam of light bounced off it and sliced through an aeroplane walkway. Karina dropped her shield and narrowly dodged the punch Vision aimed at her head as he flew forward.

Fighting Vision was near impossible. The android could make himself transparent and then whole again and any punches, kicks or attacks would go straight through him. The Infinity Stone in his head made it even harder and Karina quickly realised this wasn't going to end well for her.

Vision's gem lit up again and Karina didn't have a chance to shield herself as it came barrelling towards her. Before it hit her, however, she was tackled to the side and out of the way of the lethal laser in Vision's head.

Karina rolled onto her back and looked up at her saviour, fully prepared to fight them off. Bucky Barnes stared back at her, panting from his full-on sprint from the other side of the runway.

"Hi," Karina said, feeling heat rush to her cheeks at their intimate stance. She'd spent many an hour with Steve going through his old stuff and hadn't been shy in fawning over the younger Barnes.

The fawning had slightly warn off after the events in Washington but, annoyingly, Bucky hadn't changed and Karina found herself, for once, slightly speechless at the man towering above her.

"You alright?" Bucky asked, moving off her and standing up.

Karina nodded trying not to let her eyes drift to look at the metal arm. Bucky held out his flesh hand for her and Karina grabbed it, letting him pull her to her feet.

"Sorry for trying to kill you, by the way."

Karina frowned and looked up at Bucky. "Sorry, what now?"

"Steve told me about Washington and… what I did as the Winter Soldier," Bucky replied. He was avoiding Karina's gaze and was shifting uncomfortably.

"Bucky," Karina said, grabbing his flesh hand. "It's fine. You were under the control of HYDRA – just like I once was. I also know that you didn't plant that bomb at Vienna."

"How –"

"Because Steve wouldn't be friends – be platonically in love – with a murderer." She glanced around at the airport. "You need to go."

Steve ran around the corner and stopped suddenly when he saw Karina and Bucky standing close to one another. He frowned as he approached.

"Oh, get your mind out the gutter, Rogers," Karina said, rolling her eyes. "You two need to go."

"She's right," Bucky said, "that guy's probably in Siberia by now."

Steve nodded, straightening his gloves. "We gotta draw out the flyers. I'll take Vision. You get to the jet."

"No, you get to the jet! Both of you! The rest of us aren't getting out of here," Sam said as he tried to loose Rhodey.

"As much as I hate to admit it, if we're gonna win this one, some of might have to lose it," Clint added.

"They're right, Steve," Karina said gravely. "This isn't the real fight."

"Karina, you'll be arrested," Steve warned her.

Karina shrugged and smiled tiredly. "Yeah. I know. But, since I'm willing to sign, I hope Tony will be able to get me out."

Steve looked at her and she could see that he was torn. He hesitated for a moment more. "Alright, Sam," Steve said, pressing a hand to his ear comm. "What's the play?"

"We need a diversion, something big," Sam replied.

"I got something kind of big," Scott said suddenly, chiming in. "But I can't hold it very long. On my signal, run like hell. And if I tear myself in half … don't come back for me."

Bucky frowned. "He's gonna tear himself in half?"

"You sure about this, Scott?" Steve asked.

"I do it all the time. I mean… once. In a lab. Then I passed out." Scott paused and began muttering under his breath. "I'm the boss. I'm the boss. I'm the boss. I'm the boss!"

Karina looked around, trying to figure out what Scott was up to. A second later, Scott appeared in the middle of the airport as a giant, holding on to Rhodey's leg. Karina gaped at the towering man; eyes wide.

"Tiny dude be big," Karina said, gobsmacked.

"I guess that's the signal," Steve said, slightly amused.

"Way to go tic tac!" Sam yelled.

Karina grabbed Steve's hand and forced him to look at her. "Go."

Scott seemed to be handling things by himself. He threw Rhodey to the side and Peter swung after him, throwing a web onto his back and pulling him to a halt. Scott then kicked a bus at T'Challa, but Vision jumped down, landed in front of T'Challa and slice the bus in half.

Steve and Bucky broke out from their hiding spot behind a plane and began running towards the hanger where the quinjet was. T'Challa spotted them and began chasing after them. Scott ripped a wing of a nearby plane as Sam and Tony fought in the air. Scott swung the wing at Tony and cut him off from Sam.

"Okay," Tony said as he realigned himself and found Sam again, "anyone on our side hiding any shocking abilities? I'm open to suggestions."

T'Challa clambered up on to a pile of wooden crates and looked up at Scott.

"You wanna get to them? You gotta go through me," Scott said.

He kicked through the wooden crates and T'Challa jumped off them, dodging Scott's foot. T'Challa fell into the splintered wood and looked up as Scott reached a giant hand down to grab him.

Scott stumbled back as several small missiles hit him. Rhodey was flying at him with Peter hanging off the end of his suit by a web. Peter threw a web at Scott and wrapped it around his arm several times until he had enough swing to kick Scott's face.

Steve and Bucky weaved their way through the destruction as Scott tried to keep Rhodey off their back. Rhodey dodged Scott's outstretched hand and began flying after them.

Rhodey was suddenly knocked from the sky but a flying piece of debris. It hit him side on and he fell into the back of a nearby bus. He pulled himself out and flew up to see who'd attacked him.

Karina stood in front of him, eyes glowing bright purple as she clutched her sword tightly. "I'm not gonna let you get them, Rhodey. I'm sorry."

Rhodey flew up higher but Wanda suddenly appeared and threw another piece of debris at him to knock him out of the sky.

Vision slammed himself into Scott and the giant stumbled back a bit from the force of it. Vision then looked up and saw Steve and Bucky nearing the hanger. He narrowed his eyes and summoned the jet of light from the stone and severed the control tower from it's foundation.

Steve and Bucky looked up as the control tower began falling towards them and in front of the hanger. A red glow engulfed the falling tower as Wanda held it up off the ground. Steve glanced behind him at Wanda as he jogged toward the hanger and felt pride swell up inside him.

Rhodey hovered above Wanda and pointed his sonic disruptor at her. As soon as it hit her, Wanda dropped her hold on the tower and clutched her head, screaming out in pain.

Steve and Bucky sped up, trying to reach the hanger before the tower fell. This time, instead of red, purple engulfed the debris as Karina came to the rescue. She held up the tower long enough for Steve and Bucky to duck under the raining bits of debris.

Steve glanced behind him as Karina let go and caught one last glimpse of his team. He turned back and slowed down as Natasha emerged from behind the jet.

"You're not gonna stop," Natasha said, looking at him.

Steve sighed. "You know I can't."

Natasha looked at him. "I'm gonna regret this."

She fired her widow bite at T'Challa who'd been sneaking up behind them. Steve stared at her in surprise.

"Go," Natasha said. She fired another bite at T'Challa, slowing him down again as Steve and Bucky ran for the jet.

Outside the hanger, Rhodey had his eye on Karina who was being a nuisance by constantly throwing random bits of debris up at him and Tony, trying to knock them out the air. He aimed his sonic disruptor at her and set it off but Karina dodged it even as Rhodey all but chased her around the airport.

"Hey, guys," Peter said as he swung around Scott's legs, "you ever see that really old movie, Empire Strikes Back?"

"Jesus, Tony, how old is this guy?" Rhodey asked as he gave up with chasing Karina and turned back to Scott.

"I don't know, I didn't carbon-date him. He's a little on the young side," Tony snapped.

"You know that part," Peter continued, "where they're on the snow planet… with the walking thingies?"

"Maybe the kid's on to something," Tony said, watching Peter web Scott's legs together.

"High now, Tony. Go high," Rhodey called.

Tony and Rhodey powered up towards Scott's head and both landed a blow that titled Scott's head backwards. Scott lost his balance and tipped backwards, his weight too great.

"YES!" Peter yelled. "That was awesome."

Scott's arm flailed around and knocked a celebratory Peter out of the sky. Peter lost his grip on his web and tumbled through the sky and crashed into a pile of wooden crates.

Scott landed on the ground with a loud thud. He pressed the button his suit and returned himself to normal size with a painful groan. He lifted his helmet off and grimaced.

"Does anyone have any orange slices?" Scott called.

Karina panted, hands on her hips, as she tried to catch her breath. She looked up as the quinjet flew overhead and away from the airport with Steve and Bucky onboard.

"How long before the government arrives?" Karina asked as Clint came to stand next to her.

Clint glanced behind them at the terminal and sighed. "Soon I suspect. God, Laura is gonna be pissed."

Despite it all, Karina laughed. "Yeah, no shit."

Rhodey and Tony had taken off after the quinjet. Sam flew after them as Steve pushed the thrusters to maximum to try and power away.

"Vision, I got a bandit on my six," Rhodey called as Sam began firing explosives at him. "Vision! You copy? Target his thrusters, turn him into a glider."

Vision turned away from Wanda, who he was holding close to him, and fired his laser up at where Sam was. Sam glanced behind him and saw the laser coming. He tucked into a tumble and the laser shot over him.

The laser overshot and hit Rhodey, slicing through the War Machine's chest plate. Immediately the suit lost power and Rhodey began falling through the air.

Karina looked up as she saw Rhodey falling through the air with both Tony and Sam chasing after him. She threw her hands out in front of her and forced her power up to Rhodey, trying to slow him down enough so either Tony or Sam could catch him.

Purple engulfed Rhodey's suit and it slowed him down slightly. Karina glanced behind her as people started yelling and saw numerous armed soldiers, police cars, armoured vehicles and FBI agents running towards them all.

Clint dropped his bow and immediately put his hands up in surrender. Karina refused to let Rhodey plumate to his death and turned her attention back to him and kept her hands up, struggling to slow him enough.

Karina let out a shattering scream. She dropped her hands as an immense ringing hit her ears and rendered her useless. Rhodey began falling again and hit the ground with a loud and heavy thud.

Karina fell backwards onto the runway as the ringing faded but the pain remained. Her nose was bleeding and every limb in her body was heavy and foreign.

There was more yelling and then Clint and Scott were kneeling over her, both with concern in their eyes. Clint was arguing with someone, but Karina didn't know who or what. She just looked up at the clouds and let herself float off away.

Bucky looked at Steve. He was sitting next to him at the front of the quinjet and had kept quiet the entire ride.

"What's gonna happen to your friends?" Bucky eventually asked.

Steve stared ahead; his heart heavy. "Whatever it is… I'll deal with it."

Bucky sighed thoughtfully and glanced at the approaching mountains. "I don't know if I'm worth all this, Steve."

Steve glanced at Bucky. "What you did all those years… it wasn't you. You didn't have a choice."

"I know," Bucky said softly. He looked out the jet window sorrowfully. "But I did it."

A/N: Oh, hello, it's been a while. I've decided that once I've completed my re-write of this story I will be posting it and all future works over on A03 because I prefer its format and find it easier to use. So, once I've posted the rest of this story I'll be moving over there!

Also, I know Karina is shit, please stop telling me that in reviews. I wrote this when I was just starting out with my writing and I am now a very different writer and person so when I get around to re-writting this story it will be completely different. But until then, enjoy the movies that are left - I'm currently writing endgame and wow you are not ready.

See you soon :)
