Misconceptions

His body stilted as his brain fell into overdrive.

''A human?'' He asked. It hadn't even been two years since he was reborn, that didn't stop him from speaking naturally.

Perhaps it was foolish, perhaps some may catch on, perhaps he may be discovered.

''Yes, humans.'' Her words almost seemed to be filled with contempt. ''Beings that are deceitful and cruel in every sense of the word.''

The way she articulated herself made it seem like she didn't even consider herself one.

The suspicion that has been steadily rising makes itself known in his heart once again. You

''However, they also happen to be our main source of nutrition.''

His heart jumped into his throat — restricting his vocal cords from doing as he demands.

Images of the food he's scoffed down rise up from the pit of his mind. It was all so crimson, the same shade as his eyes, his new ones.

Flesh… Flesh, cooked flesh? His stomach plunges into the deepest depths of Hell.

''What's wrong?'' She asked as his face, which was iced still became apparent.

''Uh — it's nothing.'' Placing an invisible mask over his face, and slight smile tugs at his lips.'' ''It's just that I wasn't expecting that answer.'' He responds calmly.

She eyed him curiously. ''You already know what humans are?''

Again with the third person speech? And once again his suspicion bounces up, almost spilling over.

''I overheard some of the maids talking about them a couple of times before.'' He responds.

''You did?'' She hums out. ''And what do you know about them?''

Naruto can't help but wonder what people would think of this conversation.

A mother having a full-on conversation with her toddler son.

A truly ridiculous idea.

''Not much.'' His shoulders shrug. And his hand tussles through his snowy hair that already tickles his neck. ''Just that they didn't seem to like them — whatever this human thingy is.

''Yes, that should be expected considering there are almost no humans living here.'' She answers without a care in the world.

His mind and body stopped in their tracks — for the second time today. However, the Vampire Queen was far too absorbed into her words to notice.

''So thankfully you shouldn't meet many. For the moment at the very least.''

Gazing down at his two hands, the paleness of them seemed almost inhuman now. And those fingernails which were more like claws that a dangerous animal would wield.

Just like an Ōtsutsuki.

The only non-human humanoids he's ever come across.

The same ones who killed one of his closest friends, and most importantly teammate, Sakura.

How long has it been since he's travelled to the place in his mind, months? Years?

And with a silent sigh — he rebuilt his mask that previously had cracks along the surface.

So — what was he now? An inhuman cannibal? A chuckle bursts through his mind like a cannon.

Sitting on top of a tall, brown bench. Legs swang from under him and the humid air felt like it was crawling under his skin.

His eyes flicker and stay on the shadowy grounds. However, they quickly snap up when a voice appears.

''Young Sire.'' She shows a kind smile. ''Why with the glum face?''

This Maid was the one who he interacted with the most, befitting of the Head Maid.

''Ah, it's nothing, Mariel.'' His stoned face dropped into a more relaxed look. ''I was just lost in my thoughts, that's all.''

''Is that so?'' As she walked near the bench her purple hair flung right behind her. Unlike most of the other Maids, it wasn't put into a bun.

Sitting right behind him — it doesn't take long for another question to unload. ''Are you sure? Even if you are way beyond your years, as your servant I'm willing to listen to any and all of your problems.''

Naruto remembers when all of the Maids tried to baby him, though that didn't last for long.

Those memories make his lips twitch a little before he bends them down into a thin line. I am the Hokage.

He is not Happy about those memories. He will Escape from this castle. He has a Duty to fulfil. And he definitely does not like these people in this castle.

He bites his lips. He doesn't like these monsters, right? These flesh-eating monsters? But how could that be? They all seemed nice and fine. Of course, they aren't nice and fine! She even admitted that humans were their food!

His stomach grumbles. No matter what. Even if eating flesh is required — he will return to Konoha. No matter the cost

''I'm sure, everything's fine.'' He replies with a casual voice.

A beautiful hum comes out of her lips. ''You seem hungry, would you like a bite to eat.'' She grows a knowing smile, and he catches a glimpse of a few shiny fangs.

How does she-?!

Sitting upright. ''Thanks, but I don't feel very hungry, maybe later.'' He lies politely.

''Are you sure?'' She eyes him with curiosity. ''I am.'' He responds.

''Very well.'' She murmurs softly. ''Though if you do change your mind just give me a call, I'll always have some blood on hand.''

A lightning bolt zaps up his spine, and with a pointed stare. ''Blood?'' His voice was warped with confusion.

''Yes, blood.'' Her eyes close for a second before reopening. ''What's with the confused look?''

Could it be? A hopeful idea comes but it quickly vanishes.

Blood was liquid, whereas the food he's been eating was physical. It was flesh. That much was certain.

''What do you mean by having blood on hand.'' Perhaps it was a shot in the dark, he knows it to be so.

She raises a purple eyebrow eloquently. ''The Mistress hasn't told you yet?''

''Told me what?'' The small little inkling he possesses started to grow and grow, quite similar to a plant.

''Well.'' Her long fingers trail along her chin. ''I assumed you already knew, what we vampires eat, I mean.''

''Vampires?'' He's heard that name thrown around on the weekly — he guesses it's time to ask what it is at last. He used to believe them to be a clan, but now he's not quite sure. ''What are they?''

''And here I thought the Young Sire knew everything.'' She smiled. That was another thing about Mariel. She was far bolder than any of the other maids.

Whereas most of the others spoke to him with the utmost respect, not that Mariel didn't. It was just that she was just more lax than the others.

And that she didn't fear a certain ruler of Romania.

''What are Vampires you ask?'' Her eyes closed — as if she was trying to form an answer. ''I won't go too in-depth as the Mistress will probably give you a history lesson when you're a bit older. But what are we? I guess you could call us cursed, even if most won't admit to it.''

''Cursed?'' He asks with a bit of curiosity.

''Well then, I'm taking it you don't know what we Vampires eat?'' She takes the conversation somewhere else with ease.

His arms fold while his eyes close. ''Human flesh.'' His eyes quickly reopen.

A laugh, one that was unexpected, came and left as quick as a strike of lighting.

He gazes at the maid strangely. Restraining himself from turning it into a full own glare.

''What do you think we are? A pair of zombies?'' The fucks a zombie?

She sighed sadly and her eyes calmed down. ''So that's what's been bothering you? Young Prince, I'm sorry to say but we don't we don't eat human flesh.''

His eyebrows furrowed in disbelief. Should he believe that? Was it merely a lie she spun to placate him?

She stared at him, noticing his expression which was spilled with disbelief.

''Follow me.'' She jumped up — yet it didn't seem unrefined, probably only something she could pull off. ''There's some I need to show you.''

She started walking off into the distance — not wanting to be left behind, he quickly jumped off the bench, too. And walked no more than a few inches behind her.

Passing through the winding corridors. Then two. Then three, and eventually they ventured through half a dozen of them.

Even after living in this castle for nearly two years he still gets lost. It was probably larger than the Daimyo's estate.

They entered through a door, one that he can't say he recognises. Mariel's right-hand pushes the door open. And right as that happened a pleasant smell hits his senses. He doesn't know how to explain it. It made his tongue feel wet, like some food made by a high-class chef.

It was a kitchen. That much was clear by the way the fridges, utensils — and things synonymous with a kitchen were layered out.

''Here we are.'' The cold air —flying in from the opened window causes a few chills.

She moved near the edge of the kitchen —whereas he stood so still it wouldn't be too far fetched to assume that his soles were stuck to the floor.

Mariel paused when she stood just behind one of the many fridges in this kitchen. And in a second or two, she opens it right up.

She grabs out a glass with crimson liquid filled inside of it. Her whole body whips to his direction. ''You see this, Young Prince?'' She pulls off the lid with her free hand. ''This is blood.''

Her finger finger index flicked upward. That wasn't the only thing that bounced either. The blood seemed to sing to her desires.

''As vampires, we can naturally control blood — much better than anyone else can.''

He gazes upon this display curiously. Was this some sort of Kekkei Genkai? And they did it with no Hand Signs? Although the Ōtsutsukis didn't require hand signs.

That thought makes everything feel so fucking sour.

''And because we can manipulate to such a degree also means we can make it into something much more appetising.'' With a snap of her fingers, the liquid vanished. His eyes widened for an instant. What appeared in her hands was something that looked to be a piece of meat.

The very same meats he ate on multiple occasions.

His tensed shoulders relax. Even if he would've carried on eating flesh if it was necessary. Blood sounds like a much more appealing option.

Although he can't help but wonder where they got their blood from.

Perched on top of a throne. Pinching out the emotions flowing through her eyes. And a couple of little knocks quickly come from the door.

''Come in.'' It was likely one of the many maids.

The entrance to her throne room was propelled open. Revealing a young woman in a maid's costume.

''My lady.'' Her body bent into a bow as a smile stained the Maids lips.

''Speak.'' Her fist rested under her chin. ''For what reason have you come here today, Mariel.''

Mariel's body bent upwards until she met her eyes.

''It's something concerning the Young Prince.'' The purple-haired maid reveals.

Her crimson eyes pierced ahead. ''Has something happened?''

''Oh, don't worry, my lady. It's been solved — although I believe I should still inform you.''

''Go on.'' She prompts.

''Well you see — the Young Prince seemed a tad worried about finding out what he's been eating.''

Oh. She worried this might happen. There have been a few stories of dhampirs not exactly relishing at the thought of human blood.

Was it their human morality speaking? Even so, Alucard should be too young for any sense of morality.

Children, let alone toddlers didn't have a moral system. It was only after years of it being ingrained in them do they finally develop one.

Another odd thing about her spawn.

''However.'' She tears away from her thoughts. ''The Young Prince merely had a misconception on what he was eating.''

''And what was this misconception?'' She questioned.

''Human flesh,'' Mariel answered instantaneously.

Resisting the urge to raise an eyebrow. How did he come to such a conclusion? Sure, she may have been able to articulate herself a bit better. No, she definitely could've .

Even so — why would he have an issue with it? Was it his inner human nature showing?

Hopefully not — if that was the case then she may just have to push it back into the abyss.

''And has this little problem been taken care of?''

''Indeed it has.'' Mariel replies. ''I rectified it just before coming here.''

How annoying this day has turned out to be — it's making her rather thirsty. Perhaps she'll be due for a hunt? She hasn't been on one of them in a while.

Maybe that'll help her foul mood.

''I see. Do you have anything else to report?''

Mariel shakes her head. ''No, that's all I have to report.''

She eyed Mariel's calm red eyes. ''Very well, Mariel, you're dismissed.''

Mariel bows one more time — before turning her body towards the exit. However, she still had one last thing to say.

''Very well, I'll see you later, Shalltear.'' With those words spoken, she left the throne room.

If any other maid called her that she may have set a punishment for them. Though Mariel was different. A friend of sorts, even if she never would admit to such a thing. Not that she needed to, they both knew that already.

Mariel was one of the first vampires she turned, and most importantly one of the first vampires to exist.

Author Notes.

I just want to make something clear. This Alucard has nothing to do with the one from Castlevania. The reason why I named him Alucardis because the name Alucard is synonymous with a dhampir.

Also, yes this Shalltear is loosely based on the one from Overlord, though there will be some differences.

My version of Shalltear isn't a Loli. In fact, she looks to be in her early 20s.

My version basically looks like an older version of the one from Overlord though.
