"Well then my dear chaps." Sokka said as he walked back and forth puffing on a pipe that only produced soap bubbles. "Let's review what we know and what we need to find out." he said.
Aang and Zhau-Li blinked as they were sitting on two box's in front of him not really knowing what Sokka was speaking about.
"This." Sokka held up a very ugly hand drawn drawing that looked like some sort of washed out demon or something. "Is Zukos sister Azula. She's insane. As we all know." he said. "That in there. Was supposed to be an actress called Zarali! So what happened to Zarali and what is Azula doing here?"
Aang shrugged. "Maybe she's an understudy?"
"My dear Aang. As if Azula would ever lower herself to become an understudy." Sokka rolled his eyes. "No. She must be planning something. Quite clearly! Perhaps to overthrow the fire lord. She's in the city next over. A theater is a good cover."
"How do we know though?" Zhau-Li asked.
"Elementary my dear Zhau-Li." Sokka stated. "We must investigate! Search for clues! Azula is a most cunning adversary. Always planning for something."
"Maybe she's really just working with the theater." Aang suggested. "She seemed to enjoy it."
"Highly improbable!" Sokka exclaimed. "And if all impossible things has been ruled out and only something improbable remains. How then do we know that's actually the truth?"
There was quiet. "Come on my dear fellows!" Sokka held up a hand. "Let the investigation begin!" he said as he turned around and walked away.
Zhau-Li looked at Aang. "Have you any idea what he just said?"
Aang shrugged. "It's Sokka. He doesn't always make a lot of sense. But things always work out somehow."
Together their little group managed to find a small window and got themselves back into the theater, into the empty theater hall. "Hmmm." Sokka contemplated. "Probably nothing on stage." he concluded. "If she got something it's going to be back stage." he said as he moved backstage where there true enough was a door leading to a dressing room.
Nervously Aang peaked inside, but it looked empty except for the mirrors and costumes neatly hanging on racks as well as the masks hanging with their assigned costumes.
"Hmmm." Sokka frowned as he stepped inside and bowed over to examine the only thing in there… props and costumes.
"Erh Sokka. What are we even looking for?" Aang asked.
"Clues Aang. Clues!" Sokka exclaimed. "What else would we be looking for?!"
"But… What clues?" Aang asked.
"We'll know when we find them!" Sokka huffed. "There would be no point in looking if we already knew what we were going to find!"
Just then a voice belonging to a little girl suddenly sounded. "What are you doing?"
"ARGH!" Everyone jumped in shock and looked down, to true enough seeing a five year old looking wide-eyed up at them.
"Kid! What are you doing here?!" Sokka exclaimed.
"It's my dads theater company. Since both my parents are traveling this time. They are taking me with them." The little girl informed.
Sokkas eyes narrowed. "So you travel with this theater?" he asked. "You know of it."
"Yeah." The little girl said and Sokka sat down on his knees to get close to the girl.
"Listen… The girl who played the dragon emperor tonight. What can you tell me about her?" Sokka asked.
"Oh that's my sister." The girl said in a very casual tone and everyone gaped.
Then Sokka shook his head. "I don't think you understand the question! The girl who played the dragon emperor. Who was wearing a red mask and a red costume!"
"Yeah. That's my sister." The girl insisted.
"This mask!" Sokka pulled out the dragon emperor mask. "And I meant the performance tonight!"
"I told you already!" The girl said now pouting annoying. "That's my sister! She wrote the play too!"
"Azula?!" Sokka asked disbelieving.
"Well that's what we call her at home. In the city people call her Zara. It's kind of weird." The girl blinked.
Everyone blinked as they wide-eyed looked at her.
"Erhm… What?" Sokka asked.
Just then a way to familiar voice roared through the building and everyone squirmed.
"KIYI! I swear to Agni! Five minutes. I look away for five minutes! Get out here now!"
"Oh no it's her!" Sokka shook.
"Azula." Aang tried to hide behind Zhau-Li who blinked.
"BUT I HEARD NOISES IN THE DRESSING ROOM!" Kiyi shouted back making all three boys stand straight. "And there are weird people in here!"
"WHAT?!"
"Aaargh!" Sokka stepped back and the three boys now stood in a tight group wide-eyed looking towards the door just in time for it to slam open with force.
And there she was…. Azula herself. And the way she looked was all to familiar. She was mad.
"See." Kiyi just pointed at the three.
Azula sneered as she looked up at them. "What do you think you're doing?" she asked then she blinked, a recognition came over her eyes. "You." she realized.
"Erhm…" Sokka swallowed. "Hi…. Azula." he swallowed. "It's been a while."
Azulas face darkened, her mouth turned into a sneer and she fumed.
"Please don't kill us!" Sokka covered his face.
Azulas eyes narrowed then she stood up. "Is Zuzu with you?" she finally asked.
"Huh?" Sokka asked.
"Zuko?" Aang asked. "No he's back in the other city. We came to see an all female play and he didn't want to come…. Sokka thought the play was going to be sexy."
There was silence. Azula didn't look like she was appeased at all. It looked like steam was about to escape her nostrils.
"I'm glad it wasn't!" Aang said. "I never seen love among dragons before. Zhau-Li said it was different. I just know I liked it. It was a lot of fun. It was a good play!" he said. "And you made the re-writes? Wow I didn't know you could write or act. You were very good!"
"Kiyi." Azula suddenly snapped. "Get over here."
The girl pouted but actually walked over to Azula and Azula grabbed her hand.
"And you three! Get out of here! I don't want to see any of you again!" Azula stated.
"Hey hold up!" Sokka exclaimed holding up his hands. "What are you even doing here?!" he asked.
Azula looked at him. "You really are an idiot aren't you?" she asked. "I'm touring with a play. Stupid!"
"But…. Why?!" Sokka asked.
"Because I want too!" Azula exclaimed. "It's my play! I wrote it! And these are my friends! They are choosing to be with me! And if you ever try to ruin it. I will kill you." she said… and it sounded very serious.
"Zara?" Now one of the other girls appeared in the door. The one who had played the dark water spirit. "Zara what is going on I heard yelling I…. Ooooh." she looked at the trio in front of them. "Who… Who are you? What are you doing in our dressing room?" she asked then her eyes widened. "ARE THOSE PERVERTS!"
"What? NO!" Sokka shouted. "We just wanted to figure out what's up with her!" he pointed at Azula.
"Zara?" The girl asked.
"Not Zara!" Sokka exclaimed. "This may shock you. But that's Princess Azula!"
The new girl blinked. "Yeah I know." she said. "So?"
"You already know?!" Sokka asked.
"Of course I do. She's my friend. She told me!" The girl said.
Sokka was quiet. "What does she have on you?" he asked. "Are your family hostages? Look you can speak freely. We'll help you."
"What? NO!" The girl shouted. "We're making a play together! Hopefully the first of many!"
Azula blinked as she looked at the girl, then she smiled… an actually soft smile. But then her smile turned to a frown. The hand that held Kiyis tightened and she glared at the trio. "You three… out!" she demanded. "You have no business here! Get out of my face!"
"But." Aang tried.
"You come here. Sneaking into our private dressing room! Telling who knows what to my sister! And then you talk to my friend like I am some kind of monster!" Azula seethed, sparks coming from her. "GET OUT OF HERE!" she roared. "Get out of my life!"
Aang was clearly about to speak but then Zhau-Li grabbed both Aang and Sokkas shoulders. "She's right… We have no right. We should get out of here." he said.
"I just…" Aang tried.
Zhau-Li swallowed as he looked up at Azula. "Erhm Princess Azula." he said and Azula hissed. "Lord Zuko has been very worried about you. He's going to be so relieved to know you're doing okay."
Azula laughed an empty laughter. "If you really wanted to do me a favor. You wouldn't tell him I was here. I have no desire to see little Zuzu. Nor do I want his pity." she said. "But I know you wont do that. You're his little friends and you'll tell him everything." she hissed then she bowed down so she could pick Kiyi up into her arms and she glared at the trio. "Know though. That if you touch my sister again…. I'll burn you." she said. "I'll burn you nice and crisp. Capish?"
"How can she be your sister though?" Sokka asked. "That's not possible!"
"My mom got her after she fled the Fire nation palace you moron! So we're only half siblings. But yes! We have the same mom!" Azula exclaimed.
"WHAT?!" Sounded the shout from three people.
"You… Your mom?" Aang asked. "So Zukos mom? Is she here?" he asked.
"No. She has gone to the other city to see Zuko." Azula rolled her eyes. "So yeah. You missed her! Maybe you even walked past each other going from one city to the other. Who knows!"
"ZUKOS MOM HAS GONE TO SEE ZUKO AND WE AREN'T THERE?!" Aang screamed holding his face. "Sokka this is your fault!"
"My fault!?" Sokka asked. "How was I supposed to know?!"
Now Zhau-Li grabbed the both of them and pulled them out. "I think it's time we left!"
"But… Zhau-Li!" Sokka tried. "Detective Sokka is not done!"
"Zuko just wanted to know if Azula and his mother are safe!" Zhau-Li said. "She seems to be doing fine. We shall report to Lord Zuko that he doesn't have to worry. That's our duty!"
Aang swallowed but finally just went along with Zhau-Li and while Sokka complained finally they were all outside.
"I still think this kind of stinks!" Sokka said.
"Let's just go back." Aang sighed. "If what Azula says is true. Zukos mom should have talked to him by now so he can verify for us back at the hotel."
Sokka was quiet. "It really doesn't feel right to just leave Azula like this."
"What else are we supposed to do?" Aang asked. "She's right. She hasn't done anything wrong. We can't just snoop around in her things. That's wrong!"
And Sokka sighed deeply. "Fine." he at last had to admit. "But if we all die tomorrow. Don't blame me." he said and the other two sighed as they nodded…. This had really been a long evening.
