A/N: So Rose doesn't have an official last name. I just gave her a random one. Which is why her last name is now Meredith. It was a lot of debating on a good last name for her actually. Because her middle name is Lynn (as seen in chapter one) So that would make her Rose Lynn Meredith and Sam's official name would be Samantha Nicole Meredith. I gave Sam my middle name. Anyways, enjoy.
Jake turned in his contract after dinner, and sat on the bed by Rose while she waited for her parents to answer their skype.
"I am so glad dinner's over. I'm tired of answering questions about the audition." Jake said.
"Well, my parents might have some questions if you stick around." Rose laughed.
"Would you be mad if I took a shower?" Jake asked.
"No. Bring clothes this time!" She said, laughing.
Jake nodded in agreement, and headed out the door after grabbing what he needed.
Rose sighed as her parents both appeared onscreen.
"Hi. What's up?" She asked.
"Did the ultrasound go well? Do you have a picture?" Alison asked immediately.
Rose looked confused. "Sam didn't show you? She brought it with her to make a copy." Rose said.
"I didn't know…I'll ask to see it later." Her mom said.
"It went well, the twins are fine. Healthy."
"Great! She mentioned Jake got hired. So he has a job now?" Alison asked.
"Yeah! He's a back-up dancer for Shaniqua." Rose said.
"A dancer? That's not a 's a hobby, he needs to stop kidding around and get a real job." Adam said.
"Is Twenty Eight thousand dollars every two weeks a hobby?" Rose asked.
"Dancers don't make that much." Adam said.
"They do when the star has as much money as Shaniqua does. She, as she puts it, 'pays her dancers well'." Rose said smiling.
"Well at least he's bringing in some cash. I guess he's good for something. What if this dancing interferes with his school? This can't be manageable." Adam said.
"He's being homeschooled with me. In case I need him." Rose said.
"When is that meeting?" Alison asked.
"Tomorrow. Jake's mom is going with me. You guys don't need to worry about me anymore." Rose said.
"Rose...you're still our daughter." Adam said.
"I know. On Wednesdays, I have to come to a family dinner. I won't forget."
"Always. Let us know how the meeting goes, and please keep us informed on the pregnancy." Adam said.
Rose nodded. "I will- I was at the house today. I came to see Sam, to give her the picture." Rose said she knew her father didn't know about the audition. Only that Jake went.
"You should say hi next time you drop by." He said.
"I wasn't sure I could."
"You're welcome at the house." Alison said.
"Is Jake?" Rose asked.
"Absolutely not." Adam said sternly. Still firm on the matter.
"Daddy, he has a job, and he's staying home from school to be with me. What more does he have to do?" Rose asked.
"Let's just wait a bit longer." Alison said, with a fake smile.
"Alright." Rose said.
"We have to go clean the kitchen. We'll talk to you tomorrow. Goodnight Rose." Adam said, Her mom waved goodbye and Rose closed the call.
Jake walked in. She looked at him proudly. She could tell he was tired. It'd been a long day, and they had to be out the door at seven in the morning tomorrow.
"We should get to bed soon." She said.
"It's only eight-thirty." Jake looked at the clock by his bed. He was tired, but he'd stay awake if Rose needed him.
"You're tired." She said softly .
"A little bit. I can stay up with you though." Jake said.
Rose sat by Jake on his bed. "Are you nervous about meeting with the principal tomorrow?" She asked.
"I've been in Rotwood's office way too many times to be nervous." Jake laughed.
"You aren't in trouble this time." Rose said, rolling her eyes.
"My dad still hates you. He says being a dancer isn't a job, it's a hobby."
"Please don't call me a dancer. It sounds too feminine." Jake said.
"But that's your job." Rose pointed out.
"I don't know how this even happened." Jake said.
"So, what's your dream job?" Rose asked, leaning against Jake. His chest felt warm, probably from his shower.
It reminded her of the heat her babies gave off, although it was less frequent now. Jake kissed her forehead and shrugged.
"Realistically or Just like any job?" Jake asked.
"Realistically. We can't all be professional skateboarders."
"I don't know. I've never thought of it. I know you want to be a doctor right?" Jake asked.
"Yeah...like that could happen now."
"You don't know that. I'm here to stay. I'll help in any way I can." Jake said.
"When does rehearsal start?"
"Monday...oh." Jake said.
"What?"
" I have a dragon thing Monday evening. We were going to meet today, but it involved Trixie and I didn't want to ruin today for her." Jake said.
"Calling out on the first day of work? Never good." Rose said.
"Protecting the magical community is a little more important. Don't you think?" Jake asked.
"I guess. How many personal and sick days do you get?" Rose asked.
"Three." Jake said.
"You should save them for after the babies come, not that I can't handle my own kids but you know...they should have their dad around as much as possible." Rose said.
Jake understood. He decided since they were already talking about his packed schedule that it wasn't the time to talk about summer tours Shaniqua had. Not now. They would have to talk about him being gone for three months. Just not now.
"I can't miss dragon business. I'm already stressed enough about potentially ruining her first real relationship." Jake said.
"You've always made dragon stuff work around things before, what time is your dragon thing Monday?" Rose asked.
"You're saying do both things?" Jake asked.
"The downside of having super cool dragon powers I guess." Rose laughed.
"Super cool dragon powers? You've never talked about them like that before." Jake laughed, he smiled.
"What?" Rose asked.
"Nothing. Just wondering how I got so lucky. You're so encouraging."
Rose felt safe from her comfortable surroundings and Jake's loving gaze. The twins inside of her were dormant for the night, and the warm feeling wouldn't last throughout the entire pregnancy. So she was savoring these last few days, or maybe even hours until the dragon's decided to stay dormant until June.
Summer babies. Which meant no beach body for her, but at least she'd have Jake to help her. She was taken by surprise when Jake pressed his lips against hers, even though she's kissed him a million times before, this felt different. She pushed him away.
"Did I do something wrong?" He asked.
"No I just...I'm not sure I told you I loved you today." Rose said.
"Well, you just did. I love you too. More than you know."
"Okay. You can kiss me now." Rose smiled.
Sam's House
Sam ran downstairs when she heard Rose's voice on the computer. Unfortunately she was too late, she saw her parents close the laptop.
"Hey, next time Rose calls, can you tell me so I can talk too?" Sam asked. Walking into the kitchen.
"Samantha, those calls are for us. Not you. Besides, Rose mentioned she saw you today. I would like to see the ultrasound." Her father said.
"You want to see it?" Sam asked skeptically. She thought her father didn't want anything to do with the pregnancy.
"Yes."
"Fine-and Rose is my family too. I can talk to her whenever I want." Sam said.
"Sam, we just want some quality time with your sister." Alison explained.
"Whatever. I'll get the ultrasound." Sam ran upstairs and came back down with the picture.
"Here." She handed it to her dad.
She watched as he looked at the picture and his face softened slightly.
"Alison, do you remember when you got your first ultrasound?" He laughed.
"Oh god yes." Alison laughed.
"What happened?" Sam asked.
"She fell walking out of the office, and we had to do another one to make sure you were okay! tThen she got upset because she couldn't tell where you were. We were pretty young adults back then, so it was new." Adam explained.
"Aw. Well if it helps mom, I had trouble looking at this ultrasound thing too." Sam laughed.
"Soon we'll be able to see two little people in there." Alison said.
"Two little dragons." Sam corrected.
"They're still babies. Make us a copy of this will you?" Her father asked.
"Sure." Sam said.
"And Sam...we know we said you could see Nigel." Her father started.
"Don't tell me you changed your mind." Sam said.
"No. We like Nigel, he's a nice young man. We just think-not that we don't trust you, but me and your father think you should start birth control, we'll go to the doctor to talk about options. Just to be on the safe side- not that we don't trust you." Her mother said gently.
"Oh. That's it?" Sam asked.
"Yes, that's it." Adam said.
"I mean, you can trust me but sure. Anything to help you sleep better at night." Sam laughed. She walked back upstairs and rolled her eyes. She pulled out her phone and texted Rose.
Sam: Mom and dad want me to start birth control.
Rose: I know. It was my idea.
Sam: It's MY body. You guys shouldn't make those decisions.
Rose: Look, barely know Nigel and even though Jake vouches for him I need to know you're going to be safe. He's a wizard. He could do something, and easily use a mind erase potion.
Sam: I can't believe you're even suggesting that, and you're one to talk about trust. Jake told Nigel ALL about my history with guys. I had to convince Nigel I didn't want sex from him. I really feel like he was going to dump me.
Rose: I'll talk to him about it. How did Jake know?
Sam: I confided in him when we were in your dreams.
Sam didn't get a text back from Rose that night. She was about to go to bed before she got a call from Jake.
"You are the last person I want to talk to." She said,
"I'm sorry. Nigel was getting on my nerves and I knew talking about you would mess with his head."
"It's better he found out now, than in the future. Like what if I'm too good at giving blowjobs? I'd have to explain myself then right?" Sam joked.
"Sam!" she heard her sister exclaim.
"Am I on speaker?" Sam asked.
"Oh yeah. Rose just heard every word." Jake laughed.
"Oh my god...it was a joke. Nigel doesn't want sex." Sam said.
"What kind of boyfriend doesn't want sex from his girlfriend?" Rose asked.
"The kind who has a pregnant twin sister. You and Jake freak him out a little."
"Yeah. He asked me if I was happy." Jake said.
"Are you?"
"YES! Why is it so hard for people to believe I'm happy with your sister?"
"Because people think being a pregnant teenager means I should be miserable and my life is ruined. Well, me and Jake couldn't be more in love. So there." Rose said.
"Okay. Anyways. Jake, you're forgiven. If I confide in you again...just don't tell anyone. ESPECIALLY NIGEL!" Sam said.
"I won't."
"Think you can score me tickets to the Shaniqua concert coming up?" Sam asked.
"Really? Already? I haven't even worked a day."
" I think she'll pick you to freestyle. That'd be so cool, you get the whole stage to yourself for like three minutes. I hear it makes all the other dancers jealous." Sam said.
"I'd hate to be put on the spot like that in front of a huge crowd. An audition is one thing but a sold out arena? I don't think so." Jake said.
"So you can fight Ogres, and Goblins, but a sold out stadium is a no go?" Sam laughed.
"I train every day to fight threats against the magical community. Your sister was scarier." Jake said.
"She wasn't even a threat." Sam said.
"The person she worked for was. One of the top thirteen threats to us magical beings. Although...now that they're gone- except for Rose- I guess there's only twelve major threats."
"You can't even say the dark dragon's gone for good." Rose said.
"Hey! I told you I didn't want you involved in that." Jake said.
"It's not fair! I'm pregnant, not dying." Rose said.
"What's the dark dragon?" Sam asked.
"Thanks. Now she knows about the dark dragon." Jake said.
"Aren't dragons the good guys?" Sam asked.
"Usually. The dark dragon is the first dragon to ever turn bad,he has an accomplice. We thought we were done with them but they had planned for a loss. Nigel is really going to have to pull through on this one." Jake said.
"You can't just fight him?" Sam asked.
"He's controlling someone. I can't harm an innocent person." Jake said.
"I see...Rose, it's kind of creepy. I don't know why you want to know." Sam said.
"I like to know what my boyfriend's up to."
"In other words, you want to keep him on a tight leash?" Sam laughed.
"What's Nigel up to?"
"Probably getting ready for bed, just like me. By the way, I can't hangout with you tomorrow. It's the last day of summer and I'll be spending all day with Nigel." Sam said.
"I thought I told you. Jake and I are going to the school. We have a meeting with the principal." Rose said.
"That's a great way to spend your last day of summer." Sam said sarcastically.
"I know, but it has to get done." Rose said.
There was a knock on the door. "Jake, Rose- it's me." They heard Susan say.
"Hey, Sam, we'll call you tomorrow." Jake said.
Rose said goodbye, and Jake hung up.
"Come in mom." Jake said.
"Just making sure you two aren't staying up too late."
"We were just about to go to bed."
"Remember, to sleep in your own beds." She said.
"We were just talking." Jake said.
"Do you need anything, Rose?" Susan asked.
"Just some sleep." Rose stood up to go to her bed.
"Alright. I'll see you two in the morning." She said, She hugged Jake and Rose and left.
"She's not going to do that every night, is she?" Rose asked.
"I hope not. We're not little kids. I kind of felt like being told to go to bed." Jake laughed.
"Same."
"She means well." Jake said.
"I know. I like your parents. They have been a thousand times more helpful than mine." Rose said.
"They adore you." Jake said.
"I had a feeling when they said I could live here." Rose laughed.
"I adore you." Jake said.
"I adore you too. Even if you speak without thinking." Rose said, she lay down in her bed and looked at Jake. It would be nice seeing him each night. Knowing he was there.
"Goodnight." She said.
"Goodnight."
Jake opened his eyes and looked over at Rose, his heartbeat sped up when he noticed she wasn't in bed.
He was about to go look for her when his door opened, and Rose walked in. Fully dressed, hair done, ready for the day."
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"Our meeting with Rotwood? You need to get up."
"You go...tell me what he says." Jake groaned rolling onto his side. He checked the time.
Eight-Thirty. How can she be so put together at Eight-Thirty?
"JAKE!" His mom yelled from downstairs.
Jake rolled his eyes. "Tell my mom I'm up." He said.
"Are you?"
"Yes, I'm taking a shower. Tell her to chill. I'll be like, fifteen minutes." Jake said.
Rose sighed, knowing it would be closer to thirty minutes. She sighed and went to talk to his mom.
"He said he'll be down in fifteen minutes." Rose said, leaving the chill part out.
"Do you have anything else planned for today?"
" No. Not really." Rose said.
"You two should stop by that nice baby shop they have at the mall. It has the cutest clothes and you already know the genders so you could start buying. I can come if you want." Susan said.
"That sounds great! We can go after the meeting." Rose said.
"Exactly what I was thinking. Go tell Jake, and please tell him to hurry."
Rose laughed. "I'll go check." She said, going upstairs. She checked the bedroom and rolled her eyes. His alarm was going off but he had put his head under the covers to drown it out.
She walked over to him, turned off his alarm and pulled the blankets off of his head.
"Jake, wake up!" She yelled.
He sat up and looked at her. "Hey. You look nice." He said yawning.
"Jake. Is this how it's going to be when the babies come?" She asked.
"What?"
"You can't sleep through a crying baby. They're twins. It would be nice to have some help and you can't parent if you won't even wake up to go to a meeting for school!"
"I'm up!" Jake said, finally getting out of bed, "and my parenting abilities have nothing to do with me sleeping through my alarm clock once or twice."
" I went to school with you. It was more than once or twice." Rose rolled her eyes.
"You should try being me. You'd be tired too." Jake said.
"I'm carrying your babies-"
"And you never let me forget it." Jake muttered.
"Excuse me?"
"Nothing." Jake pulled on a clean pair of jeans and one of the shirts he bought the other day. He'd have to just shower tonight.
"Wait, we need to talk about this." Rose said, stopping Jake from leaving the room.
"I thought you wanted to get to the meeting."
"Do you not want to keep the babies?"
"I NEVER said that. Of course I want the twins...but it's taking its toll on me too. I used to only have school and dragon training. Now I have dragon training, school, and work, and on top of that there are the times I have to protect the magical universe. I'm dealing with the dark dragon right now too. I can't even see my friends unless they go to the shop, or tag along on a mission. My life right now is all about you and the twins, so you don't have to remind me." Jake said, avoiding eye contact with Rose.
"At least you have your family." Rose said quietly.
"You can go home whenever you want. I'm not stopping you." Jake said.
Rose had heard it enough times to know when she wasn't wanted. "Go to the meeting without me." Rose said, running downstairs.
"Rose? Are you okay?" Susan asked.
She was surprised when Rose ran out the door, she noticed she was crying. Did something happen to the babies? She thought.
Jake came running down the stairs after her, but his mom stopped him. "What happened?" She asked.
"Mom, can you just stay out of this one?" He asked.
"Jake, why was Rose crying?"
"She was crying? Fuck."
"Language." His mom said.
"Sorry...I just said some things I shouldn't have and I don't know what I can say to fix it this time."
Jake got a text.
Rose: I'm going with mom to the meeting. I'll see you there.
"She's going with her mom to the meeting. She said she'll see us there." Jake said.
"So you two had a fight?"
"I told her to go home mom." Jake said.
"Why would you do that?"
"I was tired, and frustrated. I didn't mean any of it." Jake said.
"Did you tell her that?"
Jake shook his head.
"Well maybe you should. She needs you, just as much as you need her. Now let's go to the meeting, you two can talk afterwards." Susan said and they walked outside.
It was a nice day so they walked to the school, which wasn't a far walk. Just about ten minutes away. He saw Rose and she looked better. She was smiling with her mom.
"Jake!" She called, and ran up to him, wrapping him in a hug.
"Rose, I missed you. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean anything I said...well some of it, but not in a bad way. Ever since I met you, I've never minded being the center of your attention. Things are about to get crazy, but I'm willing to stick it out. I mean, if you want to. You can go home, but I'd really love you to stay." Jake said quietly, so only Rose could hear.
"Of course I want to. We all have our bad days Jake, and we're probably going to get into more fights. My mom actually did want to come to the meeting though." Rose said she kissed Jake quickly and led him over to her mom.
"Hi Jake." She said politely. Jake could still feel the tension between them. At least she was playing nice.
"Hi." He said.
"Who's ready for this meeting?" Susan said.
"Rose said this teacher was a bit eccentric?" Alison asked.
"Yeah...he is." Jake said.
"His goal in life is to prove the existence of magical creatures." Rose said.
"Then why is he a principal?"
"You tell us." Jake said, and Rose laughed.
"The funny thing is he's actually onto something. He just looks nuts trying to prove it." She laughed.
Jake smiled and took her hand as they walked into the school. "We're here for a meeting with Principal Rotwood." Alison told the receptionist.
"Yes, Jake Long, and Rose Meredith. Meeting with Principal Rotwood...you're late." She said.
"Sorry about that." Rose said.
"I'll see if he's still available." The receptionist dialed a number, and told Rotwood they were there. She nodded to them, before thanking Rotwood and hanging up.
"He said he can still see you. Just go through that door on the left, he's been waiting."
"Thank you." Susan said.
They turned around and it wasn't hard to find. Rose knocked on the door.
"Come in." Rotwood called from inside.
"If there's one person I could go my entire life without seeing again, it's him." Jake whispered. Rose nodded.
They walked in and he motioned for them all to sit.
"Nice to see you again , and under such interesting circumstances."
Jake looked at his mom. "You told him?"
"Well...he knows about Rose, and when he heard you were being homeschooled as well, at the same address, he put two and two together himself. I just confirmed it when he asked me." Susan said.
"It's not like it will stay a secret for long anyways." Alison said.
"What do you mean? That's the whole reason I'm being homeschooled, and no one knows me." Rose said.
"I am curious as to how you two met." Rotwood asked.
"We go way back...friends for a long time." Jake said. It wasn't a complete lie.
Rose nodded.
"I see. I understand your...situation. However, you do know that we do not condone teenage pregnancy. If this was the middle of the school year we would ask that you just repeat the year, however you got lucky."
"I wouldn't call it lucky." Rose said.
"Since it is the beginning of the school year, and your freshman year of high school I am allowing you to continue your studies at home. I have informed your teachers of your situation-it was the only way to get your entire workload. I have your assignments for the entire month. At the beginning of each month, you or one of your parents has to come retrieve your new assignments and turn in the work you do. I have a few books, here you go." Rotwood handed Jake and Rose a folder filled with assignments and Rose had three books, Jake only had two.
"I'll need these assignments completed by the end of the month. That is all. If you need extra help, contact the school and we will send someone." Rotwood said.
"Thank you Principal Rotwood." Susan said, and they stood up. Jake took Rose's books and they went outside.
"That went surprisingly well." Rose said.
"I know. Maybe he forgot I'm a dragon." Jake shrugged.
"On the contrary, Mr. Long. I do know dragon babies are exceedingly rare. What's better than one dragon when I can have two?" Rotwood asked.
"What are you doing out here?" Jake asked.
"You two were my last appointment of the day. I'm simply waiting for my cab." Rotwood said.
"Stay away from her." Jake warned.
"Her? She's perfectly safe. I'd worry about yourself. I have special plans for you. I've had a whole summer to think things through." Rotwood laughed as his cab pulled up and he got in, giving them one last smirk.
"I see what you mean." Alison said.
"He's all talk. I'll keep Rose safe." He promised.
"Let's drop these books off at the house before we go shopping." Rose said, deciding to change the subject.
"You're going shopping?" Alison asked.
"Yeah. We want to look at baby clothes. Jake's mom is coming...if you want to come."
"No. I better get home. It looks like things are going to be ok." Alison said.
"Ok. I'll see you at dinner." Rose said, she gave her mother a quick hug and walked towards the subway station.
"Want a ride back, or do you prefer walking?" Jake asked.
"With these books? Definitely a ride." Rose laughed.
