"You have until tomorrow to complete part one of this project: creating a song encompassing three separate emotions in three sections of one song. They can be any three emotions you choose, as long two of the three are on opposite ends of the spectrum. The song can be lyrical or instrumental."
Mrs. Archambault informed Ella's music class, said girl taking notes for Adrien, who had to sit in for an announcement in the fashion design class.
The bell rang and Ella made her way to the library, her nose already buried in her song journal. It was full to the brim, a new book already resting in her bag, but as she dug through the pages of her current one, Ella couldn't quite pick any lyrics to use.
"Why the long face?" Kiismet asked, once Ella found a table in the corner of the second floor.
"None of these lyrics are quite what I'm looking for. I mean, maybe a couple line but..." Ella trailed off, her eyes seeing something that may be passable.
"Hm... these may work for part of a verse... and they already seem like there's some emotion behind them..."
"What's got your forehead so wrinkled?"
Ella jumped at the voice, her journal tumbling to the ground.
"Sorry Ella- I didn't mean to startle you!" Adrien frowned, upset he scared her. Ella shook her head, retrieving the book.
"No it- it's fine. I was just focused on something..." She spoke, her voice going soft at the sight of the boy. At her words, Adrien's frown changed to a smile and he took the seat beside her.
"Did we get any assignments in music?"
"Yeah- I wrote out the instructions for you..." Ella passed over the paper, before her eyes moved back to her journal. The lyrics she found at the beginning of the book might work, having been written just after her mother died, so that could make the first emotion grief or loss.
"How did the fashion class announcement go?" She asked, her eyes still on the pages.
"As well as it could've gone. I think Marinette has a good chance of winning- I saw her sketches before I found you up here."
"That's good..." Ella trailed off, pulling her new journal- a purple/blue/black galaxy style cover (if it made her think of Raven's color scheme, she didn't say it)- and began copying lyrics and adding words. The girl couldn't help but feel a bit sad. Marinette was a little cold to Ella after the photoshoot a few days ago. It hurt Ella to know her one of her only friends was mad at her, over a boy no less, but what could Ella do? Kiismet said her and Adrien are linked on every path of her life from here on out, so it's not like Ella could move across the world at the drop of a hat.
Adrien watched Ella zone into her own world, her pen gliding across the paper. It was fascinating to watch her, the expressions she made and the way her eyes danced and gleamed... it was like watching an artist create a masterpiece.
He could feel the butterflies erupting in his stomach once again, and his heartbeat quicken as he took in the beauty that was Ella.
He didn't quite know how long he sat there, staring softly at Ella, but grumbling alerted the pair to the passage of time.
"Sorry- I forgot my lunch today..." Ella apologized, her hand resting on her shirt over her stomach.
"No need to apologize, let's go find something to eat." Adrien smiled, collecting the books he got out for the homework he meant to work on.
"No- it- it's fine! I don't wanna be a bother..!"
"That's not possible, Ella. You could never be a bother to me. Now, let's go." With a soft smile, Adrien held out his hand to Ella. He watched as she mentally battled with herself before gently smiling and placing her hand in his.
