Half listening to the teacher, Ella kept glancing between Alya and Adrien out of the corner of her eye. The glancing at Adrien, well that could be explained easily. Keeping watch on Alya? Well, ever since the Pharaoh villain three days ago, the red-head was determined more than ever to find out who in the school was Ladybug. She had already told Ella she knew it wasn't her, since she had her history textbook when Ladybug dropped hers (granted, Ella was still a superhero- just not the one Alya was dead set on unmasking). Ironically, the actual Ladybug was out of the classroom, fighting another akuma. Ella figured the team leader had probably tried to call her but the teen couldn't risk missing classes when the akuma was nowhere near the school.
"Alya, Ella. Is Marinette still in the girls room?"
Ella started at suddenly being addressed but luckily Alya answered.
"Uh, I don't know miss." Any further questioning by Miss Bustier was cut off by the bell, signaling the end of the day.
"Tonight I want you all to read chapter three of the breathtaking 'France: The First Thousand Years' and then answer this questionnaire." She instructed the students, handing out the papers as everyone exited.
"See that Marinette receives her homework." She requested as she handed Alya two sets.
Ella shook her head, watching Alya run around trying to find Marinette. According to the news Ladybug was still fighting the akuma, so the teen's searching was a waste of time.
"You could still go and help?" Kiismet whispered from her nest inside Ella's curtain of hair.
"The fight looks like it's almost over, so what's the point? I'll apologize next time." The teen sighed, exiting the news app and opening her messages. Adrien had texted her about having some free time after school tomorrow and wanted to know if she wanted to go eat. The girl smiled at the little black letters; Adrien had to run immediately after school let out for a photoshoot and promised to text her whenever he could.
"That boy is gonna forever try and make up lunch with you- though I think he may be wanting more than just a lunch date~" Kiis teased, reading the text from her perch. Ella ignored the second jab at the crazy possibility that Adrien wanted to be more than friends.
"Well every time so far, an akuma's attacked and I've been gone as Raven. I'm honestly surprised he hasn't given up-"
"Stop that. Adrien's not gonna give up on you and you know that."
"Yeah I know, Kiisy."
Ella shot back a reply, stating she was free and excited, before heading up to the school recording room for the night.
"I'm shocked no one's noticed me sleeping at school yet."
Ella whispered to Kiismet the next morning as she exited the building for her morning bakery run.
"There's no cameras and I don't think they'll care unless you make a mess."
"That's true. Good morning Mrs. Dupain-Cheng!"
Ella smiled wide at the woman, who greeted her with a motherly grin.
"Good morning Ella. Here's your usual."
"Thanks ma'am! Is Marinette ready to go?"
"I'm not sure she's awake yet, but there's no need to make yourself late worrying about her. Now you head off to school now and study hard!"
Ella nodded, thanking the woman once again before heading back to school.
"Morning Ella!"
"Hi Adrien..!" The girl blushed, but her voice stayed strong this time as the blond teen approached.
"You're always so early- it's impressive!"
"Well you know... heh heh- better to be here!"
Adrien couldn't help the slight frown marring his face, that last statement not sitting well with him for some reason.
"Are you still free after school?" Ella's voice pulled her from his thoughts.
"Yeah, I double-checked with my father and he said it was fine, after I told him I was going to lunch with you. He still wants to meet you but he didn't say anything about it this time."
Ella nodded, the grip on her bag strap noticeably tightening. At that, Adrien quickly changed the subject.
"Anyhow, where do you wanna go eat? We can go anywhere you want."
Ella smiled, her hand loosening. Adrien mimicked her smile and led the way into the school. The pair went up to the library to hang out before class, unaware of the drama brewing in the locker room.
When the five minute bell rang, the two went back down to class, Adrien holding the door open for Ella. "Thanks, Adrien."
"No problem, Ella." He watched her slide into her seat just behind him before he sat down himself.
Ella looked up at the creak, seeing Marinette slip into class almost an hour and a half late.
"Oversleep?" She whispered to the blunette as the girl slid into the seat beside her. Marinette nodded sheepishly before looking around.
"Where's Alya?"
"I don't know- I haven't seen her yet. Maybe Nino knows?" Marinette nodded and tapped the boy on the shoulder. Ella went back to her journal but was startled by Marinette's loud shout.
"What?!"
"Marinette- if you're going to come late, would you please do it discretely?"
"Sorry..."
Not trusting, Ella stared as Marinette tapped Nino's arm again.
Five seconds later...
"WHAT?!" At that shout, Ella flinched. One that was noticed, cause Adrien reached back and placed his hand on hers.
'Thanks' she mouthed, squeezing his hand. The boy nodded before turning his head to Nino.
"What are you talking about?"
"Exactly what I said, bro. Alya says Chloé is Ladybug! She is crazy!"
Ella and Adrien froze at that statement before looking at each other, then over at Chloé. Said girl winked at Adrien... then glared at Ella. The pair glance back at each other until Adrien gives Ella's hand one more squeeze and turns back to the front, his gaze returning to his tablet. Ella couldn't help her pink blush, her eyes moving back to her journal.
Poor Marinette left for the principals office and the classroom was quiet. A few minutes later, the projector on the ceiling flared to life, showing...
"Alya?"
"I'm Lady Wifi, revealer of truth! For our first exposé, your principal would like to share a little tidbit with you. So Mr. Damocles, is it true you wrongly suspended a student named Alya today?"
Yep. Alya. As if the Ladybug phone charm wasn't a clear indicator.
But at least Mr. Damocles had the decency to look ashamed, Ella couldn't help but note, as the man confirmed what Wifi said.
"So you were biased? Unfair? Totally unjust?!"
"Yes, I was." Wifi smirked, happy with her answer.
"For my next scoop, I'll be taking you to meet the girl who's been hiding behind the Ladybug mask!" From her phone, Wifi swiped a pink 'stop' icon and it landed on Mr. Damocles, causing him to freeze.
"Stay connected!" The screen went black.
Ella didn't even listen to Miss Bustier's shouted instructions- she ran out the door heading straight for the bathroom.
"Why is this villain making me regret having a phone?"
"You could stand to stay off it a bit more."
"Ha ha, very funny. Kiismet, touch the sky!"
Cat just beat her there, landing on the roof across from the Grand Paris Hotel. On silent steps, Raven approached, seeing Cat using his staff and looking into the room at Chloé dressed as Ladybug.
"What? This can't be!"
"A peeping tomcat, are we now?" The feline hero jumped at Raven's words, his face morphing into a large grin.
"Hey there beautiful~ I'm glad to know you're not Chloé under that mask." He spoke, pulling Raven down to sit at his side before wrapping the arm not holding his staff around her waist, his hand resting on her thigh.
"Scared to have a crush on the daughter of the mayor?"
"More like horrified." He moved his eyes back to his staff screen, watching the blonde girl.
"Who's being a sneaky kitty now?"
"Ladybug!"
"Hey girl." The spotted teen sat next to Raven, pulling out her yo-yo to mimic Cat's viewing spectacle. "Come on- you didn't actually believe she was the real Ladybug. She's obviously just a diehard fan."
"Or a copycat, we could say." Raven teased, Cat responding by squeezing her closer to him.
"Ha ha, you're hilarious."
"Pull her any closer, Cat Noir and Raven'll be in your lap."
"That's fine with me!"
"But not with me while we're on the edge of a building!"
The trio only had to wait a minute or so before Lady Wifi appeared in the hotel room.
"We got wifi!" Ladybug called from her ledge just before the other two.
"I swear- you two need better puns." Raven smirked as she unfurled her wings.
"Excuse me angel, but my puns are paw-some!"
"More like a cat-tastrophe!"
"Focus, you two!"
Landing on the balcony and running in, the heroes disrupted the broadcast Wifi had going.
"Who are you?" The villain glared at them, seeing Ladybug standing there.
"But I thought you were Ladybug!"
"That brat?" Ladybug stomped on Raven's foot, earning a half-hearted glare.
"Sorry to bust your news story. Next time, double-check your facts." Cat taunted.
"You'll be sorry." Another swipe on the phone and the pause button holding Chloé, as well as the camera icon vanished.
"Alya?" Ladybug tried.
"Alya's been disconnected- it's Lady Wifi now! News flash, Ladybug- it's time we find out who you are!"
Wifi swiped, pause buttons flying out of her phone. The heroes split up, dodging left and right.
"At least she's only trying to unmask you, right bug?" Raven called, sticking to her feet; her wings were too big for this kind of attack.
"Not helping, birdie! Follow me!"
"Only if you never call me that again!"
