Having lost their leaders to the enemy already. The defense of Mega Central made a move they hoped that they would not come to regret later. After all, they could not reveal that those that were supposed to be running the place for them had been overthrown and replaced with puppet administration. The general public being unaware could pose as both hostages as well as means to make them into the bad guy in this scenario.
The narrative was not exactly something technomages nor the normal defense force could control themselves at the moment. They first had to remove the puppet administration as fast as possible then go about revealing that they were about to be taken down from within. Revealed that the string of loss recently was not just bad luck but timing and those settling things, as a result, was just what the Robotnik Empire wanted. Sure there would be some that go against this idea regardless as their actions are going to be seen as a bit extreme but they are short on time as they would need to carry out this mission as quickly as possible.
Given that merely uprooting the silent coup that happened under their very noses was not the only thing they had to deal with. The strange construction site was another that they could not believe was happening right outside of their city. That left the technomages to head there all completely as played along with the ceasefire that happened to rally to this cause. Most of them at least as some were left behind along with normal defense force to protect the general public.
Having explained that this was a drill being run as they might have entered a ceasefire but in case of emergency they were running a city wide safety drill. Where everyone was relocated into various shelters around the city. One where they were supposed to be safe from an attack should their defense fail and the city itself is in danger.
"Strange though that we are going to be using like this though," Regina's father said he lead the group towards the hidden construction site
"Yup as that it most certainly is," his daughter said as she appeared beside him
"You are supposed to be with your mother right now," he told her
"I am not here to fight as that place might be hard to spot for those not at a certain level and there might be things that I missed the first time around" she replied
"All the more reason for you to go to your mother...now" he demanded.
"The vice commander has her duty in helping oversee the civilians as mine should help spot anything else that should not be overlooked. This is dangerous but what if there is something we are not seeing something that is the real reason behind them taking this risk" Regina said
She wanted to help protect the city as well as she was not the best at close range to melee fighting with her magitek. However, she was skilled enough at mid to long range that she had more raw talent and ability than most. It was just her experience and knowledge that was lacking, however. Though she would not be going this alone nor as a fighter, knowing her role was more support and guide.
"Fine as long as you do not put yourself in too much danger and know when to run away when things get bad" her commander informed her.
He had every right to worry about his family however he was not the only one that one the line here after all. So he just has to make sure that his side of things goes down as smoothly as possible. That being that to counter this silent coup that took over Mega Central, another would take place only this time it would not be so silent though.
As the hopeful rail to retake their city's government and stop whatever was going on at the hidden construction site began. Those that were not on their side currently were seen as in leagues with the Robotnik Empire or were not considered an ally for the moment. Both the technomage and the normal defense force had several unwritten codes and actions for all kinds of scenarios that seem far fetched. Though it was a better safe than sorry approach that done to ensure as much as possible that such there be a traitor amongst that this information would be picked up by them. Change often to prevent leaks thus it changed once again and luckily enough it seemed to have worked as those that worked under the traitor did not were left out of the loop.
This lead to fighting against those that were merely under the traitor yet themselves unaware of anything their superior had done so they were not fatal but still mess them up bad enough that they would not be getting back up. They would live without any long term effects but they would not be moving for a while though.
Regina and the other did not have to worry about that for too long as they were in shock that the entire area around the construction site did not have a single Overlander there. In fact, there was not a single organic being in the area as they were all roboticized. Not just the foot soldiers of the Robotnik Empire but even the people that were in the area as well. They too were fully roboticized however those that were not technomage would have never noticed this as the disguises were just that good.
Seeing this as now a must in destroying this place and making sure that whatever was being built here never got completed. It was all out war as they had to wipe out everything and everyone here. Just hoping that no news of this was getting back to anyone from the Robotnik Empire as knowledge of a process to probably roboticize Overlander could be something that would do untold amounts of damage.
