HPatRS The Gamer: Chapter 9

Late November * *

"Harry, I found it!" Hermoine said happily. "Can I know why you need to know it?"

"Wll, I read that dementors are drawn to those who've had to deal with trauma." Harry started. "And I want to be prepared, just in case."

Hermoine was not convinced. "You'll be around adults more than not, right? They'll be able to protect you." She said disapprovingly.

"Well, yeah, but still." Harry tried to convince the girl without telling her about her abilities. If he didn't want to tell adults, who seemed to have his needs in mind, why would he tell a child who he barely knew.

"No, I won't." She said walking away with the notebook.

Harry groaned. 'Well, I'll find it eventually.'

Christmas Eve * *

Harry tied the last of the packages to the owls. He had made some alliances that one could tentatively call "friends" but the alliance he had briefly made with Hermoine had dissolved shortly after Harry refused to tell her a different reason for needing the Patronus charm.

Harry had continued to go with his original excuse, never changing it. A brief but loud argument had caused both of them to be banned from the library for a week which made Hermoine just ignore Harry completely and Harry to lose out on tutoring time.

He scoffed. Yes, it was a dumb excuse but why couldn't she just accept it?

It took Harry nearly until Christmas to find the charm as she had not even told him the name of the spell.

Once Harry had found the spell Harry had tried it and had found that he needed over 45 more levels in Charms before he could use it. The few spells Harry did know had started to provide diminishing returns and his tutoring had given him limited free time.

Even sneaking back down to the Chamber of Secrets had given Harry no new spells to use as it all put XP into Snake Magic.

Harry sighed. He figured that it would be hard to get to level 60 in anything after all the work he put into enchanting his clothing. He was happy about that as the dungeons were very, very, very cold right now.

Christmas Morning * *

The next morning Harry was woken bright and early by several hyperactive 11 year olds demanding him to wake up and open presents.

Harry was actually surprised at the amount of presents he got. While it was mostly books and candy, there was an odd package that was revealed to be a puzzle box that had belonged to his grandparents. Harry put it to the side to solve later and went down to breakfast with his classmates.

Later that day Harry returned to his bed and found a final present on his bed. It was wrapped nicely in dark blue paper dusted with copper stars. Harry opened it and a silky cloak slid out onto the bed. "Observe." Harry muttered.

Invisibility Cloak

This cloak allows the wearer to become invisible to the magical and non-magical detection. Though, the wearer can still be heard and smelled if the sound and scent are strong enough.

"Oh, that is awesome." Harry whispered. "This will make things so much easier." Harry saw a note. It was unsigned.

'Your father left this in my possession before he died. It is time it was returned to you.'

'Use it well.

'A Very Merry Christmas to you'

"Huh." Harry said before slipping the cloak on and looking in the mirror. He left the hood down and thus looked like a floating head. "Cool." He grinned. This would make this so much easier.

Three Nights Later * *

Harry was exploring. He had been doing so the past few nights and had found an odd mirror that had shown him an older version of himself activating the Fool's Guide to : * and then vanishing. Harry had not gone back to that room as there had not been anything else of interest.

Harry stopped in front of an old vending machine. It wouldn't have looked out of place back in Surrey but seemed incredibly out of place here as did the nearby claw machine filled with balls containing tiny scrolls, gems and books.

Harry reasoned that the books were grimoires but could not figure out what the scrolls or gems were. "Spells?" Harry guessed. He looked closer at the machine and saw that the machine took XP instead of money. Harry placed his hand on the machine. A list of abilities came up with levels and xp next to it. Each 'play' seemed to be 100 xp. Harry selected his Repair skill as it was his highest skill and he could probably easily grind 100 xp back easily.

A dozen plays and several scrolls later, Harry figured out that the scrolls were indeed spells and the gems were called DevCon gems and were in essence cheat codes.

According to Observe some were powerful and really rare others were just plain silly. Like the one he had just won from the Claw Machine.

AfroHair DevCon Gem allows the user to change everyone's hairstyle to that of an Afro. There is a rainbow variant.

Harry sighed. This was stupid. He thought about it for a moment and tapped the Claw Machine again to try for another DevCon gem.

Another dozen tries Harry had 2 more silly DevCon Gems. BigHead DevCon Gem and SqueakyVoices DevCon Gem, both named for exactly what they did. The scrolls on the other hand were much more useful.

The scrolls were spells. Five spells and five more repeats which gave Harry access to the Confounding, Obscuring, Scrying, Color Changing, and Landscaping Charms. Overall useful, except for the Landscaping charm in Harry's opinion, though the repeat scroll of it gave a massive boost to the spell's power.

The Vending Machine exchanged experience points for experience points at a 100:1 ratio. Using the experience from the Repair skill Harry easily got his Charm skill up to level 50 and went to the library to learn the Patronus Charm.

Hogwarts Library * *

You have learned a new spell: Patronus Charm

Patronus Charm level 1 0.00% : Mist Repels Dementors, Costs 50 MP per cast.

"Finally, one step closer." Harry muttered before placing the book back on the shelf and walking away.

He would need to grind this spell as much as he could before classes started up and his classmates came back. Maybe he'd try for a few more DevCon gems though.

Several hours later and much frustration, Harry was surprised when a Grimoire finally fell out.

"Instant Dungeon Grimoire?" Harry read the title but instantly learned it.

Instant Dungeons were different than Personal Dungeons. Instant Dungeons were filled with monsters. Monsters like kobolds, zombies, rats and bats.

The monsters also dropped items.

Harry was shocked when he found one with ghosts in it. Unlike the friendly ghosts of Hogwarts, these ghosts were hostile.

Though it took it lot out of him, the Patronus charm drove them off and did a lot of damage.

Until the final boss of the dungeon showed up, a dementor.

"Observe." Harry whispered.

Dementor

The Dementor is a creature of darkness and despair. Its aura causes all those to remember their worst memory. Some are affected more than others.

This is a boss monster.

Harry turned and ran.

Three Days Later * *

"Expecto Patronum!" Harry yelled against his mother's screaming as the dementor swooped down. Using the rather overpowered 13:1 time warped personal dungeons Harry had managed to level the Patronus to level 100 three times, evolving it from mist to shield to guardian. A massive smokey snake wrapped itself around Harry and struck out at the dementor striking it down. The snake faded as the dementor's cloak floated down in front of the panicking boy.

Congratulations! You Have Cleared the Dungeon!

Level 2 is now Available!

Would You Like to Continue?

Yes/No?

Harry pressed no, firmly. He had been surprised when the guardian form of his Patronus had been the basilisk.

Harry opened his inventory.

A Fool's Guide to: Builds

The Grimoire's Requirements have been met.

Use A Fool's Guide to: Builds?

Yes/No?

Harry grinned. He hadn't been completely sure it would've worked. He hadn't intended on fighting the dementor this early either. The Instant Dungeon had been a Zombie Instant Dungeon at first but had changed. Harry picked up the Dementor's Cloak before pressing Yes.

Builds Unlocked, Go to Builds Hub?

Yes/No?

Harry blinked. 'Builds hub? What's that?' He thought. He looked at the chest that had appeared after he had pressed no to continuing the dungeon.

He opened the chest. In it was a ledger and a box. "The Otherworld Auction?" Harry read. "Observe."

This ledger and box allows you access to The Otherworld Auction, a worldwide auction house that deals with sales of items/animals both magical and not, legal and not. It does not deal with the sale of people/beings.

"Huh, cool." Harry thought for a moment, "I can make so much money," He said after thinking of all of the things just taking up room in the boxes upon boxes in his trunk. "Now, builds hub, what's that? Can I easily return?"

Yes you can easily return to your current build. Do you wish to go to the Builds Hub?

Yes/No?

Harry pushed the ledger and box into his inventory before pressing yes.

~~~~~
Yes, Cliffy. Tempted have it glitch. The Otherworld Auction replaces the Abyss Auction. There is also the Underworld Auction that deals in the sale of people/beings. Harry will not be doing that… Ever.
