Opening File: Moon Butterfly

Moon Butterfly, also known as Moon the Undaunted, is the 36th Queen of the Kingdom of Mewni, ruling alongside her husband River Butterfly, and the mother of Star Butterfly. She was the previous wielder of the Royal Magic Wand before passing it down to her daughter on her fourteenth birthday. Daughter of Comet Butterfly Moon used to be a 'happy go-lucky girl' during her youth, but after Toffee and his army killed her mother and she inherited the throne, she became serious and mature to protect her kingdom and family. Moon led her kingdom against the monsters and seemingly won the war after their morale was shattered by her defeating Toffee.

Being the queen, Moon acts as the true ruling monarch of Mewni and always has the well-being of her kingdom in mind, to the point she is unable to express interest in anything else. This often causes her to appear cold and even somewhat authoritarian towards others. Despite her overbearing strictness, she truly cares for her daughter. Moon is initially a very strict and stubborn authoritarian figure in Star's life.

She agreed with her husband to send Star to Earth to train, but she puts her under the constant threat that if she misbehaves she'll be sent to St. Olga's Reform School for Wayward Princesses. She demands that Star follows in her footsteps as queen and follow the customs and traditions of her kingdom and expects nothing less but compliance from Star. Moon calls Star for her 'daily reminder to behave like the queen-in-training' that she is. Her overbearing attitude towards Star and the pressure she puts on her leads Marco to state that Star has 'mother issues'. However, Moon does deeply care for and love her daughter and even worries about her, with her overbearing nature stemming from her own short-lived relationship with her mother, to the point where Star did not know about her grandmother's fate until her teen years.

Moon is the only member of the royal family willing to tolerate the rambunctiousness of the Johansen family, as a result of her marriage to River Johansen, who would become King Butterfly. The rest of the family openly disapproves of their marriage, and often chastises her for their union. Moon took a pole dancing class at one point in her life. She kept the boots for her regular attire. Moon was the second known queen to begin her reign at the age of 17, the first known queen being Skywynne Butterfly (though Skywynne took the throne as a result of her mother stepping down out of boredom).

"Why hello there."

Instead of TOM sitting in his chair on the bridge of the Absolution Mk 3.5 it was…

"This is temporary host Deadpool filling in for your beloved TOM." Deadpool said, relaxing in the chair. "Why am I here? Because it's always been a personal dream of mine to become a host on a space ship, cruising the multi-verse as I broadcast action shows and come up with cool advice you're probably never going to use in real life. Honestly, everyone out there, including the author would kill to have a job like this. A chance to look at the bleak emptiness of space, lighting up with cool shows you'll never see again because the real world is full of jerks who like to censor everything and prefer us to air 'politically' correct shows and the executives at the studios seem to think their voices matter for some reason, only to find them losing millions of viewers and dollars much to their surprise."

SARA appeared next to Deadpool. "Is this about your movies?"

"Noooooooooo." Deadpool said slowly. "But you have to admit there is a pattern. I mean hell, did you see how many reviews that one fiction story I got where I drowned the Teen Titans, not the real Teen Titans but the ones from the cesspool of a show with the stolen name and the word 'Go' at the end. Do you have any idea how many fans screamed in jubilation at those rip offs as they were dissolved? What kind of idiotic world would keep a vomit inducing waste pile like that running?"

SARA sighed. "Is there a point to this?"

"Yes there is." Deadpool looked at the audience(you). "The point is this…Deadpool rocks, the authors working on the spin-offs better remember to keep doing Stan Lee cameos because we all love the Stan Man. Including me!" Deadpool held up a picture of him and Stan Lee posing together and making the peace sign in the center of a heart. "And people have to stop being overly sensitive and thinking every joke out there is a personal insult to them. And lastly, don't go to any movies starring that show boater Ryan Reynolds, the guy just mucks up all the movies he's in."

"Uh…Deadpool-"

"I know, SARA, I know." Deadpool 'patted' SARA. "It's hard to find a lot of joy in the world. Between the whirlwind of stupid decisions and poor lifestyle choices- looking at you and Green Lantern, Ryan- you've got to learn to appreciate the little things in life. And to start, I would like to invite our viewers to reflect upon God's gift to the multiverse: the chimichanga. Well, I guess it's Mexico's gift to the multiverse. But I digress: these deep fried burritos, the terror of bowels and the destroyer of plumbing, are the one fits all solution to modern depression."

Deadpool held up one such chimichanga. "Because let's face it, you'll be too busy listening to your intestines scream for a mercy killing to worry about the rest of that crap. No pun intended." He rolled his mask up and took a large bite. "Mmm…I've had so many of these that my arteries have literally calcified a few times. Another point to healing factors."

"Deadpool, I hate to get back to the main topic, but…could we get back to the main topic?"

"Hm? Oh yeah. Watch this, review and don't forget: Ryan Reynolds cannot be trusted to make his own life decisions." He pointed at the screen. "A vote for Deadpool is a vote to go back in time and erase Green Lantern from the history books."

Ludo and Star were just outside the castle, trying to find a way in.

"Good luck getting in there." Ludo said to the princess.

"Uh, there are keys in the door." Star pointed at the conveniently placed keys.

"That's obviously part of Toffee's plan!"

"Looks like these are yours." Star held up the keys, revealing that they had Ludo's face on them.

"Those aren't mine." Ludo said meekly.

Star entered the castle gardens and charged through the front door, while Ludo ran along the wall, trying to follow her.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! You have no idea..."Ludo tripped in one of the wall spikes. "...how powerful Toffee is! What you need is the element of surprise-!" He fell off the wall. "Lucky for you, I know this castle like the back of my hand!" To prove his point he held up up a castle-shaped mole on the back of his hand.

Star flinched in disgust. "Ugghh..."

"I sneak us into the castle and you blast Toffee in the face!" Ludo laughed. "It's the circle of life." He even made a circle with his fingers.

"What are you talking about?"

"So what do you say, do we have a deal?" Ludo held out his hand with the mole on it to shake Star's.

"I'm not gonna touch the hand with the mole on it." Star refused.

Ludo raised the other hand. "Fine..."

"Actually, I don't wanna touch any of your skin with my skin." Star pushed Ludo's hand away with her foot.

Buff Frog suddenly appeared. "Don't trust him, I will guide you."

"I don't really trust you either." Star simply said.

"I am father now." Buff Frog threw the tadpoles into a fountain. "I would like my children to grow up inside castle." He grabbed some vines from a nearby tree. "You don't have to trust me, but consider alternative."

He pointed at Ludo, who was trying to steal the wand from Star's hand. Star shot at Ludo, and Buff Frog attached the vines to the fountain, fashioning it into some sort of backpack.

He walked up to the castle door and knocks it down. "Let's go."

"Out of the way!" Ludo ran through the door.

Star starts to follow him but Buff Frog blocked Star's way. "Whoa, whoa, before you go inside, I must tell you. Toffee is not like Ludo. He knows about you, and he does not like your magic."

"Oh yeah? Well, I don't like his...uhh..."Star began as she entered the castle. "...uhh..."

"You need to have plan!" Buff Frog said.

In the dinning room, everything was prepared for the fight, and the Fly Monster was putting pillows on Toffee's chair.

"What did I say about the pillows?" Toffee asked, walking up to the table.

The Fly Monster stopped in mid-air. "I just-"

Toffee handed the pillows back to the monster. "I don't need pillows on my chair. I'm an adult."

Fly Monster reluctantly took the pillows away. "Okay..."

Toffee sat at the chair, preparing to eat a sandwich, but the Fly Monster came back with the pillows. "No!"

The Fly went away again. Meanwhile Ludo, Buff Frog and Star watched the scene from behind a wall, preparing for the right moment to attack, Star noticing Marco in the cage, surrounded by guards. "Marco!" She turned to Buff Frog and Ludo. "Here's the plan. We're going in at the count of one."

"Uh, that is not good plan." Buff Frog said.

Star was too busy preparing the Wand. "One."

"No wait, Star-!"

"Chad, wait. Now is our chance to get the wand!" Ludo cut in.

Buff Frog scoffed at him and ran after Star, leaving Ludo to hide. Star ran into the Hall, using her magic to surprise the monsters. She jumped onto the table to attack Toffee who remained calm and did not even move.

"You made it." The Septarian simply said.

Star blasted Toffee so hard that his arm blew off, and he fell to the floor. She jumped in front of the cage, turning Beer Beard, The Frill Neck Monster, and the Three Eyed Potato Baby into little monster babies in the process.

Star launched a spell, trying to break the glass. "Supersonic-"

She paused to attack baby monsters approaching and then continued.

"Supersonic leech bomb!"

The worms exploded, but the crystal resisted them.

"What?"

Man Arm attacked her, but Buff Frog quickly came to help. "Oh, hey Buff Frog!"

Buff Frog punched him and stunned him in one hit, but while he did that the baby monsters came back with a chainsaw to attack Star. Buff Frog stopped them and Star blasted them away. Marco looked at Buff Frog and Star, wondering why they're working together. They shrugged in equal confusion.

At the same time Bearicorn, the Giraffe Monster, and Spikeballs join in, while Toffee still watched. The heroes fought them off, and Star jumped onto the chandelier, where she prepared her second attack: A rainbow rocket. Star shot the rocket but sadly, the attack failed again. The glass was unharmed and Marco was still trapped. At this point it looks like the crystal cannot be destroyed.

But Star was not willing to surrender. She jumped down the chandelier and decided that it was time to end all this racket once and for all.

"No." She cast a barrier between her and the monsters and approached the cage.

Star closed her eyes to focus on her ultimate attack. Her cheek marks began to glow along with the wand. She focused all of her energy and prepared to hit the cell. She cast her spell, which easily broke the cell in a burst of light and smoke.

Star returns to normal and gasped when she realized it worked. "Marco! We did it!"

Star ran into Marco, accidentally shoving him to the floor. She reached down to help him up. "Sorry, I was just excited. Come on, come on-let's get out of here!"

While Marco started to get out, the glass regrew and trapped him again. "Oh, no..."

Spikeballs grabbed Star and Buff Frog was knocked out.

"Stop." Spikeballs let go of Star as Toffee stood up, and his arm starting to regenerate. "That's no way to treat our...guest of honor."

His arm regenerated completely in a matter of seconds. Toffee then clicked a button on a remote control, which caused Marco's cage to sink into the floor.

Star immediately tried to hold up the cell. "No, no, no, no, no! Stop, stop, stop, stop!"

She took a stance to break the cell again but Toffee's voice from behind stopped her. "That's not going to work again. That crystal is twice as strong now."

The Fly Monster took advantage of the situation and tried to bring pillows again, but Toffee sent him away with a glare.

Marco was trying to hold up the cell from inside. "Don't worry Star! I think I've got it..."

Seeing she had no choice Star jumped on the table, and dropped her wand on Toffee's plate. "Fine. Take it. Now let Marco go."

Suddenly, Ludo jumped on the table and tries to take the wand, but the Chicken Monster caught him in his beak.

"Do you think I'm like Ludo?" Toffee asked before turning to the Chicken. "Just swallow it."

The Chicken swallowed Ludo.

Toffee pushes the wand back to Star. "I don't want your wand. Destroy it."

Marco and Star gasped. "Whaaaaaaat?"

Toffee sported a chilling smile for a split second. "SURPRISE!" He then returned to normal.

"I can't. I don't even know how." Star replied.

"Yes, you do. It's the first spell your mother taught you." Toffee said knowingly and confidently.

Star's eyes widened. "The Whispering Spell."

"Exactly." Toffee leaned forward. "Marco's waiting."

He was not wrong as Marco was about to be crushed by the ceiling. "Star...?"

Star reluctantly knelt down to the wand and picked it up. "I'm sorry."

As Star whispered the spell to her wand, it began to die. It turned grey, the star-shaped crystal began to turn black, it's wings disintegrated, and the Millhorse emerged as a ghost. Toffee looked coldly at the scene, and Star began to cry. The ghost whispered 'I was never your wand' into Star's ear.

She gasped, wiping away her tears and, after a moment, looked back at Toffee. "...Now let Marco go."

Toffee pressed a button and the cell rose back out of the ground, and a door opened in the wall. Star ran to Marco and shoves him to the floor again, then locked herself into the cell with him.

Star then looked at Buff Frog, who was just waking up. "Run."

"Oh, my babies!" Buff Frog grabbed the tadpoles and took off.

"Okay. You really gotta stop shoving me." Marco complained.

"It's not over." Star simply said.

(Toffee looked maliciously at the wand, also waiting for something to happen. "Gentlemen, it's been a pleasure."

The wand shook and glowed, ready to detonate. The big chicken laid an egg and ran away, the rest of the monsters also escaping. Toffee grinned as the wand neared its explosion. The wand finally blew up, blasting the castle to smithereens, and annihilating everything around it. Moments later Star and Marco then emerged unharmed because the cage protected them.

Marco found Toffee's jacket, which, strangely, seemed to have survived the explosion. "Pfft. Lawyers."

Star grabbed Marco's face so he could see the hatching of The Chicken Monster's egg. "Look. Nature."

Ludo came out from the egg, screaming whole Marco and Star recoiled in disgust. "Ugh."

"Where is my castle?" Ludo asked, getting his bearings.

"It's gone." Star answered.

"And where is your wand?" Ludo asked.

"That's gone too."

"Everything...? WE ARE NO LONGER FRIENDS!"

"We never were friends-"

"You are now my mortal enemy!" Ludo took out a pair of black dimensional scissors. "This day I vow-"

Star took the scissors, opened a portal to an unknown place, threw Ludo in, and closed the portal. A 'meteor' fell in the distance, and Star ran to its crash site. When Marco and Star arrived there they discovered that the 'meteor' was actually the wand's empty carcass. Marco and Star then hugged, because friendship is the only thing they have left now. While they hug, a mysterious voice interrupts them.

It was a tiny Millhorse named Vincenzo speaking Italian. "Excuse me. When I was a baby horse, Mama told me the day will come when I'll be called upon to fulfill a responsibility greater than myself, greater than this dimension. For me, that day is today!"

He entered the wand, which then proceeded to sink slowly into the ground. Star and Marco approached to see if something happens. Suddenly, a bunch of crystals start to appear around the crater, including a big one that has something inside...

When the crystal opened, a new wand appeared, and went flying to Star's hands.

Star held out her new wand. "Whoa..."

Marco looked at the wand. "Upgrade."

The galloping of some horses could be heard, and a bunch of armored knights arrived at the place.

One of them ran into Marco. "Oh, Marco, I'm so happy to see you!"

"Um, do I know you?"

"Marco! It is me, I am your dad!" The knight lifted his helmet, revealing himself as Rafael.

"My dad!"

Another knight revealed herself as Angie. "Oh, my turn!" She fell and ended out upside-down. "Just come here and hug your mother."

"This is so awkward, Mom." Marco groaned.

"It's not awkward! Don't make it awkward!"

"Wait, how did you guys get here?" Star asked.

"They used..."A third knight revealed himself as King Butterfly. "...your mirror."

At the Butterfly's Royal Palace, Star told the story to her parents.

"So. Basically, just to recap-" King Butterfly started.

Only for Queen Butterfly to interrupt. "You are not going to do that, are you?"

"What, my Dear?"

"You know that thing when you talk and every time that you get to a word with and 'S' you have that little whistle in your front teeth?"

The King's whistle teeth were briefly shown.

"I love you honey, I just can't deal with that today." Queen Butterfly then approached Star. "Star, you have abused your magic, frightened Mr. and Mrs. Diaz, and destroyed your wand. Did I leave anything out?"

"Uhh, well there's a bunch of other stuff you don't know about." Star began/

Marco tried to hush her. "Shhh!"

"No, I think that's everything. But look," She held out the new wand, that lacked half of its front piece, to her mother. "The wand's fine! Sort of."

"It's-uh... "Queen Moon took the wand. "I'll take it and get it cleaned for you."

"Please don't be mad. That looks like a mad face-" The Queen hugged her daughter, unexpectedly. "So you're not mad?"

"Oh, I'm always mad. But I'm happy that you're safe."

A horse whinnied, and Star noticed Marco's parents watching the scene. "Mr. and Mrs. Diaz, I'm sorry I made you worry."

Angie was still upside-down. "We're just glad that everyone's okay. And I'm on a horse!" Angie scared the horse, and it ran away with her.

Marco and Rafael ran after it. "Where are you going?!/Don't you go riding off with my wife!"

Star looked at her mother. "Uhhh..."

"Go ahead."

"Mrs. Diaz, wait up!" Star ran away, chasing the horse too.

Queen Moon looked sullen after Star had left. "I don't know if I'm doing the right thing, River."

"Darling..."

The Queen turned the castle's magical mirror on and made a call. "Glossaryck! Hello?"

"Stop yelling! I was in the tub...my lady."

Queen Moon did not need to see what she saw. "Ah, we can call back."

"No, it's fine, I'm just doing a little gardening." Glossaryck said, shaving his leg but then noticed the broken wand and gasped. "What happened there?"

"We fear that the wand has been cleaved."

"Cleaved? Now that's a funny word. You can cleave something apart, or you can cleave something together."

"Glossaryck?" Moon asked angrily.

"If I go like this," Glossaryck dropped his towel. "With both my arms, down goes my bath towel, cleaved from my body."

The Queen covered her eyes and the King got angry. "Glossaryck, towel, please."

Glossaryck put on the towel again. "No problem, your highness." He continued speaking while brushing his teeth. "I hope you found all pieces of the wand."

The King and The Queen looked at each other worried, since they knew that the missing piece could be anywhere.

A portal opened in a dark swamp in the Monster Realm and out stepped a man in a red hooded robe and black markings on his skin. He stepped forward and stopped when he saw it.

A skeletal hand holding what looked like half a green star shaped gem. He picked it up and watched as it flashed green.

"So Toffee, you've made it after all." He whispered into the gem.

A voice whispered in his mind.

"Yes, now you can begin phase 2 of the plan. Soon enough all magic in Mewni and the rest of the universe will be ours."

He grinned as the gem flashed, feeling the power inside.

"Don't worry. We'll find it soon enough."

With that, Hex opened a portal back to his domain, eager to begin the next phase.
