One day I woke to the idea that if Illya deserves a route that's not crack or illogically shoehorned, and no one's doing it, then why am I not doing it (nonexistent writing skills aside).

So on 2 hours of sleep and no coffee, I opened a word doc before I could regret it.

Other Night is written as closely to the old Mirror-Moon-Stilted-Translated-Nasu-Talk format as possible so as to hopefully generate the feeling that it is in fact something that can fit snugly into the original Stay Night.

The work assumes you have already read the entire visual novel, and while that is the main prerequisite, your experience will no doubt be enriched if you've also dabbled into works such as Hollow Ataraxia or Zero.

If you have not read Heaven's Feel, I do recommend going to read it first lest you be spoiled on some twists, as this is at the end of the day a fan work at most. However, if you have read the first few chapters and have faith in the amateurish writing I produce, I am sure this work will enhance your experience of Heaven's Feel when you do get to reading it one day.

You see, the original idea of Other Night came from a Japanese blog written over a decade ago. I bumped into it a while back, and the bit that interested me was how he analysed the potential effects of an Illya route on the rest of the routes. it inspired me to consider where an Illya route would actually fit. HF is a finite note on the series, no matter how one feels about Sakura's role or the True End. So in that case, without amending anything in the original work, the Illya route must be somewhere before HF, but after Fate.

The result is this: Other Night as it stands in its published form on FF serves as a bridge between UBW and HF. As the game proceeds into the "far side" of the story after the "near side" routes of Fate and UBW, the reader experiences for the first time the darker side of the War, and gets a taste of what HF has to offer as the grand finale to Fate/Stay Night.

As such, while ON does stand on its own, please consider reading it with this perspective. Not everything needs to be introduced, not everything needs to be solved. But if there's one thing I can promise, it's that I will do Illya justice.

That's why I embarked on this project, after all.
