With the sun setting it was time for both Diana and Claes to go home. They had spent the rest of the day testing out Claes' new strength compared to Diana's. So far, Diana could still beat him at arm wrestling, but even she admitted that it was possible he would beat her eventually.

Claes was so excited and couldn't wait to tell his mothers. He was running towards the door of his home yelling out,

"Mother! Mom! I'm back and you'll never guess what happened to me and Diana!"

Claes opens the door without thinking and tears it right off the hinges. Claes stands there in the empty doorway with the door still in one hand. He looks up and sees that his mothers have just come in from the fields and are staring at him with wide eyed expressions.

He quickly tries to fix it by putting it back into doorway but fails to make it stand up. Elpis comes up behind him and helps to lean it against the frame, so it blocks most of the view outside.

"Claes what is going on? How did you do that just now? Are you okay?" Elpis asks him while checking his body for injuries.

He nodded his head at his mother excitedly and then walks over to his mom who was still standing by the hearth with a spoon in her hand. Metrodora had been preparing their dinner when Claes came running in.

"What happened?" Metrodora asks him, still in shock.

"So, Diana wanted to explore this cave that we found a few days ago. I told her that we shouldn't, but she insisted so I went along with her. We got attacked by some bats! Then I told her that I didn't want to explore anymore so I started to leave. But then, a cave in happened and Diana got trapped inside the cave and couldn't get out!"

Elpis and Metrodora both gasp.

"Is the princess alright?" Elpis says.

"Is she still stuck in there Claes?" Metrodora frantically asks him.

Claes puts his hands on his hips and puffs his chest out with a proud smile on his face.

"I saved her." He says. "I was able to move the biggest and most heaviest rocks ever!"

Elpis shakes her head in confusion.

"Wait wait. You were able to pick up heavy rocks and tear the door off?"

Claes nods. Metrodora and Elpis look at each and have a silent conversation. Claes watches them with impatience.

"What is it? Why do you both look like that?" he asks.

"Claes, I think it's time we tell you about the day that we found you."

Diana was so excited. She has someone else who was like her! The fact that it's her best friend makes it even more exciting. Maybe he was blessed by the gods too, like she is.

One time when she asked him if he had been sculpted from clay too, he shrugged his shoulders and said that he didn't know. His mothers hadn't told him anything about his birth.

Diana burst into her mother's study and ses that Aunt Phillipus was in there already going over some scrolls with her mother. Both women look up at the interruption and smile when they see that it was just Diana.

Hippolyta pushes her chair back and opens her arms. Diana jumps into her mother's comforting embrace.

"Hello my little moon. Did you have a good day?" Hippolyta asks her.

"My day was amazing mother! Claes and I had so much fun! We explored a cave and,"

Hippolyta cuts off her daughter by pulling back to look at her face.

"You did what?"

Diana gave her mother and the general a sheepish look.

"I had Claes with me, so it wasn't like I was alone." Diana wanted to tell her mother about what happened in the cave, but she started thinking that maybe it was best to just keep that part of the story a secret for now. If her mother found out that Diana almost got hurt, she might never let her go exploring ever again.

"Diana, it does not matter if you had him with you or not. You could have both been seriously injured, or worse. And do not think that I don't know it was probably your idea and not his."

Diana admits guilt by lowering her eyes.

"I'm sorry."

Hippolyta hugs Diana tighter and strokes her hair like she has always done since Diana was a baby.

"There is no reason to apologize little moon. Just be more careful in the future, especially for Claes' sake. He could easily be hurt if you two aren't careful." She said.

Diana nods her head after Hippolyta lets her go. Diana looks at Phillipus and catches her wink, which causes Diana to suppress a smile.

"Go and get ready for dinner, I'll meet you there soon." Hippolyta says and dismisses Diana.

After Diana leaves, Phillipus turns to give her queen a look. Hippolyta notices and rolls her eyes.

"What is it? Go ahead and say whatever it is that you're dying to say." Hippolyta says.

"I understand your concern for her, but she is a special child. Part of growing up is making mistakes and getting hurt. You shouldn't coddle her too much."

"I am not coddling her. I'm her mother so I will naturally always worry about her." Hippolyta responds.

Phillipus looks down at her queen.

"If she is the child that the prophecy speaks of, then you will have to learn to let Diana go on her own. Spread her wings and fly as the saying goes."

Hippolyta stands up and walks over to the window that overlooks the sea.

"I know. But right now, we don't need to worry about that. Let's finish these proposals so I can go have dinner with my daughter."

You're not from here Claes.

We found you in a ship that fell from the skies.

We decided to raise you.

We love you, nothing will ever change that.

The next morning Claes was out in the fields next to his house. His mothers had gone to the market, so he was left alone. He was sitting in the dirt with his legs raised and his forehead resting on top of his knees. The sun was beating down on him but it made him feel better.

He couldn't believe what his mothers had told him. If he wasn't an Amazon, then what was he? They had no answers for him. The ship that had brought him here was somewhere else on the island. Diana's mother had it brought somewhere for safe keeping. Maybe he could find answers there.

The only problem was that his mothers didn't know where it was. Diana probably didn't either. Diana. How was he going to tell her? She might look at him differently after knowing that he came from some other place beyond Themyscira. He didn't want to lose his best friend.

Almost as if she had been summoned by his thoughts, he heard her footsteps before hearing her voice calling out his name.

"Claes!"

He stands up and runs around to the front of the house so fast that a dirt cloud was left in his wake. Diana looks at him, then the dirt cloud, and then back at him.

"Wow, I thought I was fast, but you might be even faster." She says impressed.

Claes rubs the back of his neck and doesn't meet her eyes. Diana notices.

"What is wrong with you? Could you please look at me, or did I become too repulsive to look at since yesterday?"

Claes quickly turns his eyes to hers and shakes his head.

"No of course not! You look the same, not repulsive at all!" he quickly corrects her. When Diana raises an eyebrow and waits for him to continue Claes sighs.

"I told my mothers about what happened."

Diana's eyes widen and the two of them begin to walk away from the house.

Diana and Claes were now sitting on the edge of a cliff with their legs hanging over it. Claes had just finished telling Diana the whole story that he was still trying to process.

"So let me see if I understand this. You were found in some kind of foreign ship and your mothers decided to raise you with my mother's permission?" Diana clarified.

Claes nods.

"But you're still not sure why you're so strong and fast?"

He nods again.

"And the only way you think you can find out is by finding the ship that brought you here?"

Another silent nod.

"But I can't tell anyone, not even my mother, about you having these abilities?"

"My mothers don't want me to be taken away. They're afraid of what would happen if the others on the island found out about what I can do. They might be scared." Claes says.

"But nobody is scared of me, and I have these same abilities." Diana tells him.

"But I'm a male. And not every Amazon has warmed up to having me here, they don't even try to hide it."

Diana and Claes sit in silence for a moment until Diana breaks it.

"Well, that's not fair."

Claes shrugs his shoulders and swings his feet.

"At least I don't have to hide it from you… Will you still teach me stuff that you learn in training?" he asks her.

Diana smiles and bumps shoulders with him.

"Of course. Now it will be even better because I don't have to worry about hurting you!"

Claes chuckles and the two go back to staring out at the sea.

"Have you ever wondered what was out there, Diana?"

"Sometimes. If my mother is to be believed, then it's just a bunch of war and death and destruction."

"You don't believe her." Claes says.

"It can't all be bad. There must be some good in the world. If that's where you came from then there has to be."

Diana smiles at Claes and he can't help but return one of his own.

Diana punches his shoulder and stands up.

"I'll race you to the beach!"

Diana takes off running. Claes stands up quickly and yells out.

"Fine but don't cry when I hurt your Amazon pride by beating you!"

Claes takes off running after her and the two of them run faster than they have ever ran before.
