The weather on Themyscira is perfect. Never too hot nor too cold. It gets just enough rain to water the crops and no more. There is usually a nice breeze and a few clouds in the sky.

But today the sun feels like it's shining especially bright, at least to Diana. She was actually sweating, and she knew that Antiope was secretly enjoying seeing her struggle.

Antiope had Diana training from dawn without a break, and it was already the late afternoon. When Diana had asked to go a little easier on her, Antiope's reply was swift and merciless.

"You are 14 now. The training you were doing before was child's play, this is how an Amazon truly trains."

Her arms ache, her legs hurt, she has blisters on her hands and feet, and she has sweat dripping down her spine. Diana just wanted to go home. Well, what she really wanted to do was meet Claes at their usual spot on the beach. But since the harvest season started, he was taking on more work around his family's farm, so he was always busy during the day.

Suddenly Diana feels her feet come out from under her and in an instant, she is lying on her back with Antiope's sword pointed at her neck.

"Haven't I already told you to never let your guard down!" Antiope exclaimed.

Diana feels her temper rise and she knocks Antiope's sword away with more force than was necessary. She stands up angrily and throws her own sword down.

"We've been doing this all day! I'm tired! You don't make anyone else train like this, it's not fair!" Diana angrily shouted to her mentor.

Antiope's face remained unemotional during the outburst. She calmy picks up Diana's sword and holds it out for her to grab. When Diana ignores the sword Antiope sighs and turns to look at the other Amazons that are training.

"Look around Diana."

Diana stubbornly crosses her arms and refuses to do as she is told. Antiope gives her a look and then says, "Look around, you stubborn girl."

Finally, Diana grudgingly looks around at the other Amazons. Some were on horseback, some had swords and shields, others with bows, a few with lassos. Phillipus was there too with a spear in her hand showing an advanced move to a group.

"Do you see a single Amazon here that is standing still?"

Diana shakes her head.

"Do you see a single one that is not sweating?"

Again, she shakes her head.

"Just because you don't see their pain, doesn't mean they don't feel it. Their arms and legs hurt. They're tired too."

Diana lowers her eyes to the ground.

"They have all been training for thousands of years, you have a lot of catching up to do if you are to lead us into battle one day."

Diana looks up her aunt and her eyebrows crease in confusion.

"Battle? What are you talking about? Who would we battle?"

Antiope sighs and ignores Diana's questions.

"I train you differently because you are different Diana. You are stronger and faster than any of us. But what good is power if you don't know how to use it."

Diana thinks about Claes and his own powers that seem to be outpacing her own. Besides being strong and fast, he can now see through objects and shoot fire out of his eyes. His hearing is better than Diana's too.

"What about Claes?" Diana says.

At Antiope's confusion Diana explains, "He is an Amazon too is he not? Why isn't he allowed to train? Because he is a man? I don't think that really matters."

"Diana,"

"Is it because mother forbid it?" Diana cuts her off. Antiope's gaze clashes with hers.

"Why would you think that your mother forbids it?"

Diana rolls her eyes.

"She hates men more than anyone else on the island. Of course, she wouldn't allow Claes to do anything other than just farming."

"What is wrong with just farming? It is one of the most important jobs here. Without it, how would we eat, how would we survive?"

Diana opens her mouth to explain that she didn't mean it like that, but Antiope cuts her off before she can get a word out.

"And did it ever occur to you that Claes' mothers are the ones who forbid it? Your mother might hate men as we all do, but she does not hate Claes."

At Diana's silence Antiope turns around and retrieves her own sword on the ground.

"I guess I never thought of it that way." Diana finally says.

Antiope puts the swords away and Diana's eyebrows crease in confusion again.

"I'll let you off early today. You may go." Antiope says.

Diana's surprise must show on her face because Antiope laughs.

"Go on before I change my mind. Besides you need to go show Claes what you learned today before the sun goes down."

Diana's shock grows and Antiope's laughs grow louder.

"You think I didn't know? Don't worry little one, nobody else knows, and I'll make sure to keep it that way."

Antiope winks and then walks away to join Phillipus. Without another second of hesitation Diana takes off towards Claes' farm.

Diana could see that Claes had just finished working as she was walking up to his home. He was standing by the side of the house drinking water from a bowl and pouring it over his head. Some of that had to be for show because she knew he didn't get hot anymore. But he was all about keeping up appearances.

It was times like these that she cursed his hearing because she would love to sneak up on him like she did when they were kids.

As she gets closer Claes looks up and blinks the water out of his eyes. When she notices him staring at her, she remembers that she came straight from training and probably looks like anything but a princess.

She never used to feel self-conscious around Claes, but in the last year or two, she had begun to worry about how she looks around him. It… confused her.

She begins to run a hand through her hair to try and tame it. Claes blinks and seems to come out of a daze when he sees her do it and then lowers his gaze back to the water basin that he is bent over.

"Hi Diana." When he stands up straight and smiles at her Diana notices that she has to tilt her head up slightly to meet his eyes.

"When did you get taller than me?" she says.

Claes laughs and Diana feels a warmth in her chest that she assumes comes from the sun beating down on her.

"It has been a few weeks since you've seen me this close. Are you already done with training today?" he asks her.

"Antiope let me off early."

Claes nods and they stand in silence for a moment until Diana breaks it.

"Do you want to go to our usual spot?"

Claes smiles again and nods his head enthusiastically.

"I would love to." Claes shakes his head to get the water out of it purposely soaking Diana. She laughs and pushes him away jokingly before taking off giving herself a head start in their race.

Diana and Claes were now standing on top of the cliff facing each other in fighting stances. Diana observed that Claes might be faster than her in a footrace, but when it comes to a spar, his reflexes were surprising slow and sloppy.

This could fun. She thinks with a smirk that doesn't go unnoticed by her opponent.

"What's that look for?" he says.

Diana wipes the smirk off her face and looks at him seriously while getting out of her stance.

"Aunt Antiope knows that I train you." she tells him. Claes face morphs into shock and he comes out of his stance as well.

"She wasn't mad?"

Diana shrugs and says, "Not really, but she told me that she would keep our little secret."

Claes' face changes into confusion.

"But why would," Claes doesn't get to finish his sentence because in the blink of an eye Diana uppercuts him and kicks him straight in the chest sending him flying closer to the edge of the cliff.

On his hands and knees Claes shakes his head to clear it and looks up at Diana.

"That wasn't fair!" he says.

Diana laughs and shrugs her shoulders, "Battles are not always fair Claes, that is lesson number one, you should remember."

Claes stands up and rubs his chin at the impact point. Before he even has time to recover Diana charges at him and punches him square in the chest so hard that he goes flying…straight off the edge of the cliff.

"Diana!"

"Claes!"

Diana stands there in shock for a split second. Then without even thinking, and later she questions what her plan was exactly, she runs and dives off the edge of the cliff after him.

She sees Claes falling fast to the ground below and she prays to every single god she knows to save them. Diana pushes herself ahead and somehow catches up to Claes. Their eyes meet in widened shock and Diana grabs onto Claes, and they both shut their eyes.

Suddenly, they still. Diana opens her eyes and notices that she is holding Claes underneath his arms and his eyes are still shut tightly. She looks down and sees that their feet are hovering above the water's rocky surface.

She's not sure how she knows, but she just knows that it's her that is keeping them in the air. Claes opens his eyes and follows her gaze. He lets out a small shout and Diana barely holds on to him as he thrashes.

"Hold still, you idiot." She says.

"Diana how are you… what is…" he can't even finish a complete sentence.

Instinctively Diana begins to rise, and they slowly fly back up towards the cliff. When they reach the top Diana puts Claes down gently and continues to hover in the air.

"I don't how I'm doing this, but… Claes I can fly!" Diana says with a smile creeping onto her face.
