Meteor Fall

William glared at Tony and the thing he'd brought to life. It was a silver and red humanoid made out of Vibranium, an apparently cosmically powerful yellow stone in its forehead called an Infinity Stone, specifically the Mind Stone, and the remains of Jarvis. It was indestructible, potentially on Ultron's side, claimed to be on their side, and was making William feel like Nick Fury. However, everyone else, minus Olivia, had agreed to work with it, so he didn't have a choice.

"We're here," Steve said. "Bruce, sneak in, find Natasha, and get her to safety. Everyone else, evacuate."

Everyone nodded and were scattered throughout the city. Olivia split into five duplicates and scattered, Wanda Maximoff began to use her abilities to force people around her to evacuate peacefully, Pietro Maximoff took off in a blur to spread the word of an impending attack, Barton found a high place to remain unseen while watching for Ultron or chaos, and William began to run from house to house spreading the word, using his powers to threaten everyone who didn't listen to him. While they all tried their hardest to clear the city quickly, Tony headed for Ultron, who his suit's AI located in the church. Finally, however, after only about twenty minutes of evacuating, Ultron's extra bodies, an army of them, began to burst up from the ground and the rivers, swarming toward the streets.

William swore, sprinting out into the street and forming a bow and arrow, two of Olivia's copies running over to stand at his sides, one with her laser sniper and the other with her new energy pistol. They went to work instantly, all three firing rapidly and dropping any Ultrons they could see. An Ultron's arm transformed into a laser cannon that it aimed at one of the Olivias, but William severed it with an extra-large arrow, then put a second through the Ultron's chest. A pair of them landed to ether side of William and he spun, his bow's arms splitting them both across the chest before he sent another arrow into a group of Ultrons, the arrow exploding and destroying them all. An Ultron grabbed William from behind and energy spikes burst from its back, shredding it and freeing him before an Ultron landed behind one of the Olivias, grabbing her by the hair and lifting her. She flipped backward instantly and the other Olivia shot it through the chest before William slashed its hand off at the wrist. Olivia reached back, quickly freeing the hand from her hair and tossing it aside before her pistol snapped up and half a dozen shots flashed past William into a trio of Ultrons flying toward him. He spun, forming an energy barrier that incinerated their pieces before compressing it into a spear of energy and sending it speeding into an Ultron. It blasted through it and into another's head before fading, both collapsing. Suddenly, the ground began to lurch and shake. All three looked around in confusion before William stopped, watching the buildings in the distance starting to sink. His gut dropped as he saw the mountains doing the same. The buildings weren't sinking, the section of city where they were standing was rising.

"Do you see?" Ultron asked through all of his bodies. "The beauty of it. The inevitability. You rise, only to fall."

"He's making a meteor," William breathed.

"Focus!" Olivia said, both of her duplicates opening fire again as the Ultrons resumed attacking.

William snarled angrily, firing three arrows into Ultrons with cannons for arms before trading his bow and arrows for a pair of energy daggers, charging into the robots. He spun, slashed, hacked, and slaughtered anything in range, the Olivias barely a few steps behind him, using their weapons at close range to support him. An Ultron flew up into the air and transformed its arm into a cannon, only for a sniper round to punch through its head, dropping the Ultron onto another, which the duplicate with the laser sniper shot instantly. William shredded several more before hurling his knives into two, allowing them to explode before registering Steve was speaking.

"...tear these things apart," Steve was saying. "You get hurt, hurt 'em back. You get killed...walk it off."

"Been there, done that," William said, sending an energy arrow through one Ultron into another. "Not a lot of fun." He spun, drilling a punch into an Ultron's head with his vibranium arm, knocking it to the side a step and making its own punch miss, then drove and energy dagger up into its torso before letting it fade and returning to shooting.

"No dying," Olivia said icily. "One time limit's been reached."

William smiled, spinning and slashing a passing Ultron with his bow before sending an arrow into one just as it was rising from ground. He spun, sending an explosive arrow into the last group, destroying all but one, and the two Olivias finished it instantly.

"We're clear," William said.

"Same here," Barton reported.

"We are not clear!" Steve said, explosions and laser cannon shots echoing behind his voice. "We are very not clear!"

"Alright, coming to you," Barton said.

William and the two Olivia duplicates with him began to run, moving quickly through the city using back alleys and roads. Several Ultrons attacked them, but between the three of them, they died quickly. Finally, they reached the massive open area where Barton was fighting a massive swarm of Ultrons, alongside Natasha, a small group of police Pietro, and Wanda. Wanda was ripping the Ultrons apart quickly, and within minutes of William and the Olivias joining in, the area was clear. They began to quickly usher everyone into the buildings nearby.

"Next wave will be here any minute," Steve said. "What've you got Stark?"

"Well, nothing good," Tony said. "Maybe a way to blow up the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface, if you guys can get clear."

"I asked for a solution, not an escape plan," Steve said.

"That's the best solution we're going to get," William said. "We blow up the meteor, it it blows up the planet."

"Impact radius is getting bigger every second," Tony said.

"Steve, these people are going nowhere," Natasha said. "If Stark finds a way to blow this rock..."

"Not until these people are safe," Steve said.

"Everyone up here versus everyone down there?" Natasha asked. "There's no math there."

William glanced at Olivia as she and her duplicates all rejoined, Olivia grimacing and holding a hand to her ribs. He gave her a concerned look, but she just shook her head.

"Just a bruise," Olivia said.

"Where else am I gonna get a view like this?" Natasha was saying.

William glanced out of the the building at Steve and Natasha, who were staring out at the clouds they were now above.

"Glad you like the view, Romanoff," Fury's voice spoke up over their radios. "It's about to get better."

Suddenly, a Helicarrier rose from the clouds.

"Nice right?" Fury asked. "Pulled her out of mothballs with a couple of old friends."

"Fury, you son of a bitch," Steve grinned.

"Ooh, you kiss your mother with that mouth?" Fury teased, Steve shaking his head.

Four personnel carriers flew out of the side of the Helicarrier and flew over.

William grinned. "Everyone outside! Get ready to pack in tight!"

The civilians flooded out of the building and William and Olivia went with them before escaping from the flood of soon-to-be refugees, Olivia drawing her laser sniper as William formed an energy bow and arrows.

"Thor, I got a plan!" Tony said as the lifeboat they were loading took off.

"We are out of time!" Thor warned. "They're coming for the core!"

"Rhodey, get the rest of the people onboard that carrier!" Tony said.

"On it!" Rhodey said.

"Avengers, time to work for a living," Tony said.

"Shouldn't expect much from you, then," William said, sending an energy rope arrow into a tall building between him and the church before wrapping an arm around Olivia, then launching them both over the city.

"You're welcome to protect it alone," Tony said.

"Pass," William said as he used a second rope arrow to reach the church, he and Olivia taking their place opposite the core from Thor, Olivia spreading her Duplicates around it with her laser pistol and G36, which she swapped the mag for one filled with armor-piercing ammo. Then, the Ultrons began to arrive, one or two at a time, only to be slaughtered. Tony and Vision reached the church next, adding their help to the very effective blockade. A few minutes later, Barton, Wanda, Pietro, Steve, and Natasha all arrived. Only the Hulk hadn't reached them yet. Then, just as William shot an Ultron as it entered, the Hulk arrived, smashing two Ultrons in his path.

"What's the drill?" Natasha asked.

"This is the drill," Tony said, pointing at the core. "If Ultron gets a hand on it, we lose."

Just then, Ultron's main, Vibranium body floated down into view off to one side, all of the remaining hundreds of Ultron bodies forming up all the way around them. "This is exactly what I wanted. All of you against all of me. How can you possibly hope to stop me?"

"Well, like the old man said," Tony said, glancing at Steve, "together."

Then, the Hulk roared as the Ultron bodies charged. Then, the fight began. William began to fire two or three arrows at a time, rapidly, but it became readily apparent that he couldn't keep up that way. Instead, he spun, swiping Olivia's normal FN 5.7 as he slashed several with his bow, then emptied the rounds into a pair of Ultrons. As soon as the pistol ran dry, he focused and began to fire energy bullets through it instead, shifting his bow into an energy dagger. This time, he let the Ultrons get closer, using the pistol to weaken them, and killing a lot of them, then finished them with the dagger. As he spun during a slash and shot an Ultron trying to choke Steve, he took stock of everyone's progress. Tony and Vision were flying around taking out any airborne Ultrons, as well as helping on the ground, and everyone else was focusing their attention on the flood washing across the ground. Out of all of them, Olivia was doing the best, by way of having five separate bodies all fighting at once, then Hulk, then Wanda. William narrowed his eyes and redoubled his efforts, slaughtering every shiny silver robot he could reach. He fired several energy bullets that exploded in the flood a distance away, hurled daggers and energy spears that exploded as well, and never stopped moving. He used his energy to increase the strength in his vibranium arm and legs, allowing them to smash the Ultrons when he had to use martial arts, and soon he began to slowly gain on the other, more impressive Avengers. After a few minutes, he tucked his borrowed pistol into the back of his belt and formed himself an energy spear, beginning to spin and sweep it around fluidly, the spear becoming the equivalent of an impenetrable wall, destroying anything that reached its range.

Then, the main Ultron was there, going toe to toe with Vision. William ignored them, shifting the spear into a weapon with a pair of curved sword blades and spun, spinning the weapon as well before sending it speeding out of the room through the archway he was covering, the weapon shredding Ultrons. An Ultron leapt into the air, sending an energy blast into his chest, but his armor stopped it, despite the bruised ribs arguing otherwise, or his back as it slammed into the core. However, as Olivia shot that Ultron, William formed a pair of daggers and tore back into the Ultrons, ignoring the pain. Then, finally, as he ripped an Ultron's head off, it was over. The main Ultron had been blasted out of the building by Vision and was holding off the combined power of Vision's Mind Stone firing a laser beam, Iron Man's repulsor lasers, and Thor's lightning, all of which combined to blast bits of Ultron's Vibranium plating off. All of the other bodies that had been swarming them had been destroyed, save for a small, damaged group watching from off to the side.

"You know, with the benefit of hindsight-" Ultron began, only for the Hulk to slam a fist into him, launching him away and roaring.

The Hulk charged at the last group and they turned to flee, William and Olivia picking off several, William using his bow and arrows again, Hulk smashed multiple more, and a handful took to the air. Rhodey destroyed several with his shoulder-mounted minigun, only to stop as Vision blasted two and phased his arms through a third, then ripped it apart.

"We gotta move out," Steve said. "Even I can tell the air's getting thin. You guys get to the boats. I'll sweep for stragglers and be right behind you."

"What about the core?" Barton asked.

"I'll protect it," Wanda volunteered, looking to Barton. "It's my job."

Barton nodded and began to run, Natasha following him as the Olivias all rejoined again and she and William began to run as well. After a few minutes, they reached one of the lifeboats, quickly making sure the buildings around it were clear before getting on. However, as they were flying away, they looked back, seeing Ultron had taken the Quinjet and was doing a strafing run toward Barton. William pulled his bow back, but he was too late. Then, just before the bullets reached Barton, Pietro shoved him and the child he was holding out of the way, the bullets ripping through him instead. They looked up at the Quinjet just as Hulk reached it, charging into it before hurling Ultron out the back. William sighed, letting the bow fade.

"Dammit," William sighed. "We almost made it with no casualties."

"Almost," Olivia nodded. "We were close."

Just then, the chunk of city began to drop, fast.

"Time's up," William said. "Tony, Thor, now or never."

Lightning began to strike the center of the meteor as bright blue flames began to erupt from the city, speeding the meteor up. Then, just as Vision flew out of the city with Wanda, the meteor exploded from the top down, bits and pieces of it crashing down in the water, as did Thor and the massive Vibranium core.

"It's over," Olivia breathed as they offloaded the lifeboat. "For a second, I didn't think we could do it."

"We have a habit of cutting it close," William sighed. "I need a fucking nap."

Olivia nodded in agreement. "Once we get back to the facility we can."

William sighed. "It's going to be a long flight." He held out her pistol.

"Keep it," Olivia said. "I have a better one."

William nodded. "Let's head inside. I haven't been able to catch my breath for the last hour."

Olivia laughed and nodded and they headed inside, finding somewhere out of the way to rest and wait to get home.
