A/N: I got a nice review recently, one that spoke about my grammatical errors and my habit on using triple dots (...). I really appreciate reviews like that, it had good criticism and there were plenty of things that were said that made me more aware of those errors. Only sad thing is that it was done by a guest, and that it was done in chapter 2.

This makes it kind of unknown to me if the person read the rest of the chapters and is speaking in general, or is only at the beginning, and it also makes it impossible for me to ask him. Because there is a very significant difference between past me and present me. In many ways.

I have improved, but again, reviews like this help me a lot to keep improving, it made me more aware of little things I was doing in this chapter as I was writing. So thank you random guest, I really appreciate the criticism and the kind words that were in the review. It truly means a lot to me. As I aim to keep improving. With that said, on with the show!

Chapter 23: The Swan's Trail (Part 2)

The Outlaws arrived at Mistral Central Station in little time, gathering all the needed for a trip of unknown length and leaving the rest of what they had in the apartment. Traveling light if you could say. As of now though, they still had another hour to wait before their departure, their tickets were already taken care of, and their train would be ready to be boarded twenty minutes before leaving. They decided that the best way to spend the time was to eat lunch in the food court on the track levels.

"Argus is in the north. And it seems that it's almost always snowing there. Should we buy coats or something?" Cole asked as he finished his dessert, a mango cheesecake.

"Probably. Wouldn't hurt." Jack responded.

"There's probably a shop around here, there's always one around airports or train stations," Morgan commented.

"And usually they are the somewhat expensive kind," Aiden added. "But it's either finding something here or try and find something when we reach Argus."

"We have more than half an hour, we should be able to find something… Mmm, there's one shop right there." Jack pointed to a shop that sold souvenirs and clothing of all kinds, there was also an outdoors shop that probably would have everything they could need.

"Well, there we go… That jacket vest looks nice." Cole looked at what the shops had on display.

"Eh, not bad I guess. Though it would be nice to have a jacket again." Jack said as he finished his cup of ice cream.

"I suppose I could do with a sweater. Or an undershirt." Morgan joined in on the shop talk.

"I think I'm fine. What I have should be enough." Aiden took a sip of coffee before going back to eating his chocolate slice of cake.

"You sure? I mean your coat seems nice and all, but we are talking snow here." Cole pointed out.

"Shouldn't be an issue… though maybe some new shoes or boots would be a good idea." Aiden looked at his own shoes, they were still in good enough condition, but perhaps he would need something better if they were going to deal with snow.

"You were from Chicago, right? That place is kinda cold right?" Jack asked.

"Mostly," Aiden responded.

"Sooo you pretty much wore that all the time even before Remnant? I actually haven't seen you take the coat off in many places other than the apartment and in Wolfpine. You don't get hot in that?" Jack raised an eyebrow.

"It's temperate, it's mostly fresh. I've gotten used to wearing it… and the weather has been all over the place in Mistral." Aiden said.

"Heh, you could say that again." Morgan chuckled. "I didn't have so much rain where I grew up."

"Weren't you rich or something?" Cole asked her.

"You could say in a way. Still, my point stands. I never stayed in a place that had rain this often."

"Oh, you never went to a more tropical place then. Or to the countryside… You're a city girl aren't you." Cole stated.

"Figured me out, your point? Aren't you a city boy as well?" Morgan raised an eyebrow.

"Well yeah, but I visited more places. And you haven't told us that part about yourself yet." Cole reclined on his char and put his hands behind his head while Morgan gave him an odd look. "What? I like figuring stuff out. Don't tell me you don't."

"Speaking of figuring stuff out. Our chat with Aurelius, do you think it will be that easy?" Aiden pressed the question.

"I mean, at least Kayden seems to think so. We know where we are supposed to meet him right?" Cole asked and Aiden nodded. "As long as he's there."

"It should be straightforward in a sense. He wants to know why we want to find Xiu, and if he's anything like Kayden and Lionheart have said, then maybe he'll be willing to help us. And being straightforward and telling the truth has worked so far." Morgan said as she sipped the last of her tea.

"Well, it really depends on who we have talked to. We've lied to bandits and criminals, and the guards on the mine… but they don't really count. Anyone else, most we have really lied about is where we come from. Other than that, not much to hide really." Jack commented.

"We are lucky. Insanely lucky that there are plenty of people that can fight, will fight, have powers like semblances, and that there are many scattered settlements outside the kingdoms. We blended right in as strangers that came out of nowhere." Aiden said.

"Well… it's technically the truth." Cole shrugged.

"Hmmm, if everything goes well then we'll have an easier time finding Xiu." Aiden said.

"And if we have any luck left then we'll find him quickly after that. Maybe we could even take a detour and visit him straight away." Jack hoped.

"I feel that we won't get that lucky," Morgan told him. Just guessing they had a feeling that Xiu would take a bit more than some pinpointing to find. From the sound of it, even with Aurelius' help, they would still have to do some legwork to find the trainer.

"You are probably right," Jack said as he leaned back slightly on his chair, taking the chance to look around the station and to see if something was happening, or more precisely, if anyone seemed to be following them. He didn't see anyone, but he did see that he wasn't the only one looking. Aiden, Morgan, and Cole were all suddenly and subtly glancing in different directions, checking the surroundings.

"I see I'm the only one watching out for someone coming out of nowhere," Jack commented.

"Better safe than sorry as they would say. And to be aware of your surroundings." Aiden spoke.

"Sooner or later someone else will try." Morgan looked behind her to see the far end of the station.

"We've taken down many assassins and others already. There's always more… but at this point, a lot of them should be thinking twice before trying. Even when we got surrounded in Kuchinashi, we still sent a pretty strong message there." Cole said.

"Hmmm…" Morgan began to wonder. "Why is even Sangria bothering with assassins? If she wanted, she could come for us herself. And probably do a better job than them."

"... Perhaps she's… worried about bringing attention to herself?" Jack tried to guess.

"Nah, she could ambush us in an alley, or when we were facing Dýo and his dolls. If she wanted to, she could probably ambush us. But the guy said that some girl they knew saw us. I don't think she knows where we are at all times, so she just decided to cast a wide net." Cole deduced.

"Still, she herself didn't show up. And she's using Okro and Zerasmus to do her dirty work." Morgan pointed out.

"People send others to do their dirty work when they can do it better, when they are too busy with other things and have to delegate, when they don't wanna risk themselves, or when it is too much for one person, and it's easier and quicker to send loads of people. I don't think she's afraid, and she could do a better job herself. I think it might be the other reasons." Aiden said.

"She seemed fixated on us, willing to not stay neutral with the families if it meant getting to us." Morgan chimed in.

"She still has matters of her own. She still has that party apparently… and she's probably making deals with the Taupes and making things easier for them." Cole added.

"She's busy then and doesn't know where we are exactly. So then she's using what she has to deal with her business, track us down, help her new allies, and send people after us to try and kill us… if they find us that is or get lucky and spot us." Jack surmised.

"Keep sending people and someone eventually might get lucky. It's also another way to make sure we don't escape, and to make sure we are dead. She and Okro will keep sending people to be absolutely sure." Morgan said.

"It's what she really wants, and she seems smart," Cole added.

"She probably wouldn't be the head of The Swans if she wasn't to some degree." Aiden jumped in.

"Yeah… and she seems detached enough to not care how it happens. If she allied with the Taupes and fought with Wolfsbane, I don't think she cares how we die as long as it happens. So if the assassins kill us, that's fine with her. Hell, they snuck up on us. But if she finds us… Well, that's fine with her too." Cole guessed.

"They'll keep sending people until we break," Morgan stated.

"Means we are on a time limit too. Cause as soon as she knows where we are exactly, or where we might be and she's free to do something about it, she'll come herself." Jack added.

"She will… unless she's doing something else that we don't know about." Aiden rested his chin on his clasped hands.

"Time limit… Hey… was that "time limit" thing a joke or something?" Cole asked Jack. It wasn't the first time Jack had done something of the like.

"This time it wasn't, but I can go back to "time" puns if you want," Jack smirked.

"Don't. Please. Don't." Aiden deadpanned at Jack.

"Heh." Morgan chuckled at the antics as her hand rested on her cheek.

The Outlaws had bought their winter clothes and boarded the train without issue. The Argus Limited express itself would take at the very least an entire day to reach Argus. It would depend on how many stops the train would make, but regardless, their ride would most likely arrive on the morning of the next day. They did keep their guard up and kept themselves ready to act, as the train did pass through some Grimm-infested territory, but it seemed that even if something happened, that the train already had its own defenses and huntsmen, ready to deal with any potential threat.

With all of that in mind, the train ride seemed to be rather peaceful. There was no sign of any Grimm force willing to attack the train, and they wouldn't have to worry about Grimm during this journey in fact. Instead, they would have to worry about their fellow passengers.

"What do you think?" Morgan asked Cole, Morgan sporting a black sweater under her robe coat, and Cole now with a padded warm blue vest.

"Hmm… honestly? Don't see what the deal is. It tastes different and all, but a bit overrated really." Cole said as he placed down the cup of wine he had sipped from.

"Heh, if you can tell the difference, that's already better than most. A lot of people can't tell the difference. I'd be lying if I said I could every time." Morgan laughed.

"Well to be fair, I kinda already knew this one is more expensive. Not much guessing to do there." Cole pointed out.

"Mmm." Morgan hummed and nodded.

Rather than spend the entire ride on their cabins, the group had decided to make use of the commodities of the train during the journey. Specifically, the bar and restaurant. It was a nice enough place to take a breather and just relax before they arrived at Argus and had to go back to their work. But as it tended to happen trouble seemed to find them… only this time, trouble wasn't exactly seeking them per se. But even so, they decided to do something about it regardless.

"There they are again," Jack, now with a new grey and zipped jacket on top of his shirt and scarf, said as he discreetly pointed towards a group of three well-dressed passengers. Two men and a woman. They had spotted them during boarding, and they appeared to be like any other passengers, but as time passed, they began to show some strange behavior and subtle traits that made them different from others. They seemed to patrol different sections of the train and loop routes through the different train cars, even though they were not hired huntsmen or guards. They particularly paid attention to the four huntsmen that had been hired for the ride and for the moments when the train stopped to pick up passengers at the different stations, getting particularly active on the train's last stop half an hour ago. After a couple of hours of watching this behavior, it seemed to them they had some sort of plan, they couldn't tell for sure if it was the case, but something wasn't normal about the situation. And if they truly were planning something, it seemed like that plan was already in motion.

"It's safe to say they are looking for something. Or waiting… waiting for a chance to do something." Aiden whispered. He himself had changed his shoes for winter boots and now wore some fingerless winter gloves.

"What are the chances they are assassins? Working for Sangria?" Jack wondered.

"They would be paying attention to us, or be watching us. Maybe even paid a visit to our cabin. They haven't done that." Cole pointed out.

"They could be bandits, mapping the place out and getting ready for when their friends show up to board the train," Aiden suggested.

"They can still be normal passengers as well… killing time on their own way." Morgan reminded them.

"Yeah, but they have done the same patrol checking the guards and exits for the last hour. Something tells me it's more than killing time." Aiden responded.

"I'm with him, something's off. And the more I look at them, they seem like trouble." Cole said. It added to that that their three suspects seemed to have a… dangerous presence to them. More so than any other normal passenger.

"Hmm… if they are not after us. Then they might be waiting for someone else… someone that didn't board in Mistral. They could even be thieves waiting for something to arrive?" Morgan guessed and the others nodded, it was another possible option. As they kept watching they saw as suddenly the three suspects gathered together, exchanged some form of agreement, and for the first time during the journey, walked together to a different part of the train.

"Something changed. If they are doing something they are doing it now." Jack said.

"... No time like the present?" Cole asked the others.

"Let's go." Aiden agreed and so did the others. All of them stepped up and followed the three individuals.

The train had two hallways one could use, it was for comfort's sake and to not clog an entire hallway with too many people. For the most part, those hallways remained inside the train in parallel, but sometimes one hallway ended or went into the outside of the train to give some personal cabins a window to the outside. Their three suspects took advantage of it to split up and move quickly between carts, one of the men seemingly going up ahead while the other man and woman used the other hallway. They kept themselves at a relative pace to them, only with enough distance between them to not be noticed.

"We are splitting too?" Jack asked the others.

"Mhm. We gotta make sure they are all accounted for. They are removing fast though, they'll probably notice if we keep following them." Aiden answered.

"For now how about we try to not lose them?" Morgan offered and the other nodded. Aiden and Jack split from Morgan and Cole to the other hallway and began to trail the man that had seemingly walked ahead.

For their part, Morgan and Cole followed the other two and acted as though they simply were watching the scenery through the window. As they made it to the next train car, they noticed a shift in their suspects. It was a lounging car, the man split off while the woman went ahead and sat across from a man that was ordering a drink from a waiter, with three other people in suits surrounding him. The woman approached the man as if she was trying to greet him, the men in suits were wary of her, but she quickly said something and showed him a card. The man looked at it and he seemed to order the people with him to stand down. After that, the man paid the waiter with a gold trim card, and that's when Morgan was able to notice a logo and name in his coat. The Mistral Trading Company.

Aiden and Jack were parallel to Cole and Morgan on the opposite side, both of them keeping an eye on the one suspect that had gone past the others. He was observing the situation at the entrance of the other hallway, which led to the next cart. The Outlaws looked at each other and both of them decided to sit on opposite sides of the train, acting as if they didn't know each other or even were aware of anything else happening. Morgan then used her scroll and started a quiet group call.

"He's with the Mistral Trading Company. He also seems to have some benefits, special credit cards from the looks of it. He might be a higher-up if he has guards with him." She whispered through her scroll.

"A guy with money huh? Guess then that must be their target. Now the question is what are they going to do." Aiden said back through the scroll.

"They knew he was going to be here, or at least it looked like that. For now, that girl is being bait while the others are waiting." Cole leaned in close to Morgan to speak through her scroll.

"Well, there are a couple options. They could be trying to kill him, or to steal from him in some way. Maybe even threaten him or to spy on him." Jack said through the call.

"Unless they are new at this, I don't think they are spying, it requires a bit more tact. They are exposing themselves too much, if you wanna cover the one doing the work, then you do it from farther away." Aiden explained.

"Guess so… and I guess if you just meant to spy you aren't hoping for things to go down. These guys seem like they do." Jack followed up.

"Mmm, they seem to have an escape plan too, but one they're actually gonna use. Seems to me like stealing or killing. Could be threatening still, or maybe they could be paranoid and be expecting something to go wrong." Cole added options.

"Don't forget kidnapping, we had at least a couple of those in Transtar." Morgan chimed in.

"That's another one. Though I don't see how they would get him out of a moving train. Then again, whatever they plan, they are not gonna be able to do it with their target's guards around. Unless they are suicidal." Aiden continued.

"What should we do, they haven't done anything wrong yet," Morgan asked them. And it was true, if they tried to intervene when they had done nothing wrong, they would only be seen as violent thugs attacking for no reason. And besides, there was still a chance they were very odd and paranoid business people.

"I mean, we could still be wrong. We should try and catch them in the act and stop them. Well, hopefully before something happens. If we can act in time." Jack said through the scroll.

"Isn't that your whole deal though?" Cole quipped.

"Fuck you… Okay fine it kind of is, but I'm not omniscient. I'm just saying we should all try and act, don't pin all the work on me. I would feel better knowing that if I miss something one of you would spot it, whatever is." Jack retorted.

"At this distance, we should be able to fire or use our powers, even rush in before someone draws." Morgan estimated. "But they must have a way to at least try and separate the man from his bodyguards. I'm not exactly sure as to what it could be though."

"That's the plan then, we watch. Confirm that something is going on. And then we see how they plan to do it, figure it out, and make sure it doesn't work." Aiden said to them.

"I think Morgan and I can take care of this guy here and the chick," Cole said.

"Yeah, but you two might have to circle around and get the other one before he does something," Morgan added.

"Oh, we can do that." Jack confidently assured them.

For now, though, they focus on watching them and remaining inconspicuous. Soon enough, the man from the Mistral Trading Company stood up as he kept talking with the woman, she seemed to offer him to keep talking as they walked towards the hallway, and he seemed to accept the offer. The bodyguards followed closely, but that was when they saw the man closest to Morgan and Cole begin to move. He called over one of the bodyguards with the pretense that he had dropped something, making him come back from the hallway, all the while the woman kept the businessman and the other bodyguards distracted.

"They are splitting them," Cole said through his scroll.

"Double bait. They'll divide and conquer, and she's already in position." Aiden added.

"Shit. She's not alone, the guy in the hall just moved, I think he's circling around." Jack warned them.

"Change of plans then, you two need to get to him and maybe even the woman, we can take care of this one," Morgan said, ready to spring into action if things escalated.

"Already on it," Aiden answered, he and Jack quickly making their way to the other hallway. That was when it happened. Their suspect went close to the bodyguard and suddenly yanked his wrist as he pulled out a kukri, making sure to make a show of his attack on the bodyguard.

The plan they devised was honestly quite simple. One of them would distract the bodyguards by causing a commotion, hopefully, big enough to distract two or even the three guards all on their own. Meanwhile, the others would be in position, either unseen and close enough to run in swiftly or acting as helpless civilians close to the target. They even managed to get close and personal with said target, and in the perfect position for a surprise attack. They had accounted for the train guards, huntsmen, the exits, and the bodyguards. But unfortunately for them, they had not accounted for anyone to act as a good samaritan.

Cole leaped from his seat as their suspect pulled out a weapon, jumping over it and blasting the man with a precision bolt and a thunderbolt, sending him sprawling against the rest of the furniture of the cart with impact, but prying him off the bodyguard and otherwise leaving said bodyguard unharmed. Morgan joined in his assault and forced the assailant to his knees with a Psychoshock, making him scream as he held his head in pain. Cole moved while Morgan moved to the side to have a clear angle on their enemy, but before Cole could land a punch, their opponent's voice and scream became louder. The man stood up with a roar as a red-orange shockwave of energy erupted from him, scattering the objects in the room and pushing Cole, Morgan, and the bodyguard on their backs.

By now, they had faced enough people with aura and semblances that they were beginning to get a grasp on recognizing when abilities derived from aura physical enhancements and augmentation, control over aura in general, semblances, and dust. In this case, it seemed that the shockwave was the man's semblance.

The man pulled out a revolver and began to fight back, firing first at the bodyguard, but being blocked by Cole who created his polarity wall to stop the bullets. The bodyguard didn't understand quite well what was happening, but he could tell he had been attacked, and that the people that had jumped in the fight were thankfully helping him. He got up and brandished his own gun and returned fire from behind Cole's polarity wall, all the while Morgan flanked from the side and surprised the man with an Electrostatic Burst, and then rushed at him with a kick to the ribs and an elbow to the nose. The assailant tried to shank her, but she vanished in an instant with a Phantom Shift, with Cole immediately rushing in and landing two powerful punches and then cutting through his aura with a gigawatt blade slice.

Cole and Morgan quickly overpowered their opponent, double-teaming him and striking from opposite directions. Cole blocked two kukri slashes and countered with quick jabs, the man tried to shoot at him at point-blank, but Morgan stepped in and grabbed his wrist and twisted while delivering a knee to his stomach and then a second to his chin. Cole went in and kicked his leg before delivering a barrage of lightning enhanced jabs and hooks while Morgan kept his arm pinned and forced him to drop the revolver with a twist of the arm, and then forced him against his knees by kicking his knee, delivered another Psychoshock, and then used dust to encase her fist stone and hit the back of his head. Both continued to pummel him as he kept trying to fight back, Cole delivering two kicks to his face and grasping his head with both hands, and delivering a massive current of bolts, even so, aura allowed the man to fight back and attempt a swing with his kukri, but he got countered as Cole stopped his attack, Morgan kicked him at the back of the head, Cole landed an uppercut to his chin, Morgan then hit him with an elbow to the face, Cole hit him with two hooks, Morgan continued with a low punch to the gut, Cole went in with an elbow and a slash of a gigawatt blade, Morgan kicked his head up and used dust to spit fire in his face, and finally, both of the grabbed him by the back of the head and smashed his head down on the ground.

The man suddenly exploded in a wave of orange energy, both Cole and Morgan being knocked back but landing on their feet as the man began to focus on his semblance, orange-red energy surrounding him. With quick thinking, he grabbed a nearby chair and threw it at Cole in one swift motion before turning to Morgan and throwing a dinner tray that was lying around. Cole merely swatted the chair aways with a string backhand and Morgan sidestepped the dinner tray. The assailant was about to rush Morgan, but he was stopped as the bodyguard shot him on the side, peeling at his lowering aura and giving the other a chance to attack. They took it as Morgan rushed in with a Phantom Shift and a roundhouse kick, and Cole came from the other side with a flying kick and lightning bolts. The attack and bolt connected and the man was pushed back, he was still near, however, and was about to unleash another shockwave, a bigger one by the looks of it. But in the split second before he could release it, Cole rushed in with a lightning palm explosion and knocked the man backwards, Morgan then followed up with a Kinetic Blast and smashed the man into the far wall.

"What's happening?" The businessman questioned as what had turned into a yelp of pain suddenly turned into what seemed like a full-blown fight with explosions. There was a roar and he continued to hear sounds of struggle and electric sparks. He stood back with his bodyguards and dragged his new acquaintance, a fellow businesswoman, into the hallway with him.

"Stay back sir, Tor, stay with him." One of the bodyguards ordered as he went to help his other fellow, who he could see was in the middle of the fight shooting at someone.

"Right," Tor said as he guided their employer and his new friend. For now, the most important thing was that he and she remained safe and out of harm's way. And so he began to quickly lead them down the hallway "We'll go to the other train car, there you'll be-"

"Tor!" His employer warned him as he saw someone at the end of the hallway. A man rushed at him, and he could see he was wielding a submachine gun in one hand and another similar gun that seemed to have mechashifted into a shortsword. It seemed his goal was to spray at him at close range for some reason, even so, he could barely aim his gun in time, and he would have to do his best to bear through with his aura. But right then, out of nowhere, a man appeared and used an axe to hit the man right in his back. He knocked him to the ground, stomped his head, and then hooked the axe around his ankle before seemingly moving in a trail of orange at incredible speeds, and smashing the man into the far wall of the hallway.

"Sorry about that," Jack said as the assailant he had just smashed into the wall looked at him. He got up to his feet with a twirl and sprayed bullets all around him, Jack backed away in a jump and a Time Dodge, making a Time Shield that stopped any bullet from reaching down the hallway.

As the fire subsided, Jack was rushed at by the assailant as both his weapons turned into shortswords, but the man was left scrambling as Jack outpaced him in a sudden Time Dodge, dashing past him and behind him, where Jack shot him on the back with the D12 and then moved into Time Rush with the axe twice. Once at the back of the knee, and then another to the back of the neck. Jack pressed his assault as he Time Dodged twice past him, once with a roundhouse kick to the stomach, and then by tackling him to the wall with an elbow. As the assailant began to catch up with his movements, they began to exchange swings and blows, his shortswords beginning to clash with his axe, his arms moving to block his punches, and barely missing Jack as he retaliated. Both of them became blurs, and the assailant pushed back against Jack, but as soon as he did, Jack surprised him by creating a Time Stop Bubble at point-blank range, freezing him in place, and then unloaded six continuous shots into him, all of them performed thanks to Time Enhanced reloads.

The assailant was launched several meters back as the Time Bubble Shattered and Jack wasted no time in going after him, though he was surprised as The assailant recovered quickly and managed to unload a short burst of machine-gun fire into him when he least expected it, the man continued on the offensive with a flying spinning roundhouse kick that pushed Jack into the wall. Jack got surprised, but bounced right back as he charged the man with a front kick, a punch, and a swing of his axe.

As Jack had been fighting, Tor had his own conundrum happening. His job was to protect his employer and by proxy anyone with him, it was his priority. The man fighting the person that tried to assault him seemed to be on their side, but he couldn't risk leaving his employer alone, there was still another fight happening behind them and things could change very quickly and put his employer at risk. Now he had to think and choose what was the best option for his employer and acquaintance to be out of harm's way. That decision got taken away from him as his air got suddenly sucked out of him by said acquaintance. It took her less than a second to wave her hand near his mouth and begin to suck the air out of his lungs with her semblance.

"What the-" The employer, the businessman, panicked as the woman that presented herself as a member of the Margaritas Dust chain of shops sucked the air out his bodyguard and began to wrap her arm around his neck in one single motion, beginning to draw the air out with him as well. He realized now that she was not a chance acquaintance. But in the same instant, she had attacked, the door of the cabin closest to them burst open, and the woman was suddenly pushed back and against the outer wall in a sudden surge of black smoke and green fire. The businessman and his bodyguard were knocked to the ground but remained mostly unscathed.

"Hey," Aiden said to them. The train car they were in had its cabins in the middle of both hallways, being able to be entered from both sides and with thick curtains and walls to give the passengers privacy. But even so, it was possible to occasionally look into the other hallway from the other side. Aiden used this to his advantage to keep track of the woman while Jack dealt with the other assailant. She struck faster than he thought and with less of a tell than he expected, but he had been ready to rush in and intervene before she could do much damage, just as he did.

The woman snarled at him and drew her weapons, a pair of handguns. She tried to fire at the businessman's leg and at Aiden, but Aiden charged her as a surge of smoke and flames, putting himself between her and the businessman while he quickly swatted her arms, pushing her aim to either the ceiling or the floor. Once her aim was off, he kicked her shin and then her knee, continuing his assault by wrapping both her arms under his armpit and then punching straight in the face with his other arm. He punched her thrice before she tried to strike back with a knee, once Aiden managed to avoid and responded with a kick to her other leg and a knee of his own. He then pulled out his baton and proceeded to strike her twice in the face. He would have landed a third hit, but the woman dropped the ground and brought her with him, rolling on the ground to get free of his grasp. She succeeded, but Aiden rolled with her to a standing position, ready to continue the fight.

She acted first and tried to land a couple of shots with her handguns and followed up with a quick kick, but as she did, Aiden interposed with strikes of his own and deflected or blocked the path of the handguns and the kick. When he moved to counter, he pulled out his own handgun and attempted to shoot her in the stomach, but the woman did the same as him and interposed his arm with her own. It became a lightning-fast exchange of strikes and kicks as both of them blocked each other's attacks and pushed each other's line of fire away, Aiden swatting away her arm with his baton and then did a short sidestep to avoid a shot from her other gun, countering with three shots of his own, a strike of his baton, and sweeping kick. The woman swerved her head to avoid two shots, deflected the other attacks, and blocked the attack with a kick of her own, Aiden then shot from the hip and the woman quickly moved out his line of fire, countering with a spinning elbow that he blocked, an under the armpit back shot that he managed to push away, and then a hook kick that he ducked under.

Their fight escalated in speed as shots kept getting swatted away into the ceiling, floor, or walls, and as they continued blocking or evading each other's attacks. There were kicks, strikes from Aiden's baton, pistol whips strikes, and attempted grapples that both managed to escape from before the other could really take a hold of the other. Eventually, though, Aiden had to roll to the side as sub-machine gun fire trailed behind him. The other assailant had noticed him and had decided to spray and pray with his guns in all directions. Luckily though, Jack was there to restrain the man, putting him in a Time stop and continuously striking and punching him until the Time Bubble shattered and the assailant sprawled to the ground.

Jack attempted to Time Dodge into him to knock him on his ass, but the man did a handspring before he could reach him and jumped into the ceiling, sticking to it as purple energy surrounded the sole of his feet. It seemed the man had a semblance that allowed him to stick and traverse walls, as he used the ability to stay mildly out of Jack's reach and move the walls, the ceiling, and the floor to avoid the shotgun shots that came after him. Jack himself was considering using a Time Blast, but it could be too destructive for the small space they had, instead, he decided to use a Time Shield as a shockwave to knock back and land a powerful dropkick with a Time Dodge.

The man recoiled in pain and quickly got up and jumped to the ceiling, firing his submachine guns, littering the hallway with bullet holes as Jack placed a Time Stop in front of him to stop the bullets. With Jack momentarily pinned, he decided to train one of his guns in the other direction, with the intention of hitting Aiden in the back and aiding his friend. But to his surprise, he was met with bullets and a punch as Tor the bodyguard had rushed him and landed some gunshots on him, and then punched him right on the face before grabbing his head and pulling him out of the ceiling. Jack soon Time Rushed towards them and joined in on the beating, effectively, they were now double-teaming him.

On the other side, Aiden noticed that Jack and the bodyguard seemed to have the other assailant pinned and under control, good thing too, as he could now focus solely on the woman he was facing. He finally broke through as he swatted away one of her handguns and used the wall to propel himself with a powerful flying roundhouse kick to her face. The attack disoriented her long enough for him to keep on the assault, starting with two strikes of his baton followed with a roundhouse kick to the back of her head, continued with a barrage of strikes of his baton intertwined with point-blank pistol shots and roundhouse kicks coming from the left and right, followed with a shot to her leg, a strike of the baton to her arm, a side kick to her knee, a baton strike to her face, a shot at her side two baton strikes to the front and back of her head, and knee to her chin, and a spinning hook kick that pushed her into the wall.

The woman recovered as quickly as she could and attempted to push Aiden with her semblance, creating a massive gust of wind that would have been strong enough to push most people, but didn't let it hit him, he vanished in a flash of fire and appeared behind her. He struck without mercy in an onslaught of fire-enhanced strikes with his baton and fire-enhanced kicks, pushing her back and forth between the walls as pushed around like a punching bag. He eventually used his semblance to hit her with two green firebolts and rushed at her to grab her hands, forcing her to drop her guns as his hands began to glow with green fire. The searing pain made her scream and drop her weapons, but she still tried to fight back. Aiden responded by throwing towards a wall and then smashing her against it with the aid of two powerful scorching shots of his handguns, making her aura flash. She was left with her aura shimmering as she struggled to get back up to a knee.

"Are you done?" Aiden asked her. Her response was to grit her teeth and attempt to use her semblance once again, but Aiden acted first, he struck her head hard three times with his baton, breaking her aura, and then knocked her unconscious with a side kick that smashed her head against the wall.

"Tch." Aiden shook his head, the attempt clearly didn't work, but he would give her credit, she fought until the end. She probably should have thought of a better plan for it though.

As he turned to the other fight, he was glad to see that Jack and the bodyguard were managing the other assailant without much issue. Well… for the most part. The man seemed to be relentless even while losing, both of them being forced to grab his arms as he kept trying to fire his machine guns in odd directions. They finally disarmed him as they twisted his arms and wrist and punched him against a window. The man used the opportunity to try and stand on the wall and jump into the ceiling, disorienting both Jack and the bodyguard with wild punches, but both of them returned the favor twice fold with punches and kicks. They stopped him from jumping on the ceiling and smashed against the window again, he tried to jump into them one again and Jack used a Time Dodge to dash back and then forward to smash him to the window again with a roundhouse kick, with the window now showing cracks. Even with his aura flaring, he charged towards them once again, this time both of them did front kicks to his torso, both together strong enough to knock the air out of him and smash him against the window one more time, breaking it.

The man held on to the frame of the window, and once again tried to jump back in, but the bodyguard and Jack didn't let him as they kicked him again and this time they quite literally kicked him out of the train for good. He had the misfortune of hitting a large rock on his way out, his aura breaking and his body tumbling to the snow outside, being left behind in the wilderness as the train sped away.

"Son of a… Huff… hey, thanks." Jack said to the bodyguard.

"Yeah… thanks to you too." Tor nodded as they both recovered their breath.

On the lounging car, the fight had continued, and the assailant had proved to be quite tough as he powered through the punches and lightning blasts of Cole, Morgan's attacks, and the gunshots of both bodyguards, who were by now sure that the strangers were indeed helping them, for now at least.

The man could barely withstand the four on one however, and was soon brought down as Morgan strewn with a Psychoshock, combining it with combustion dust to create a small explosion that seemed to enclose in his head. The bodyguards shot at him and pierced his aura with a couple of gunshots while Morgan and Cole charged at him and pummeled him. Cole kneed him on the face while Morgan lifted him up and smashed him against the ceiling with Kinetic Blast, Cole followed up by pulling him odeon and pile driving him to the floor before blasting him with a magnum bolt to the head. And finally, Morgan broke his aura with a small Superthermal explosion. The man rolled on the ground and was barely able to try and stand when Cole flipped him on his back and punched him right in the face, knocking him out and proceeding to pim to the ground with arc restraint.

"He's out." Cole declared as He and Morgan turned to the bodyguards.

Both of them looked at each other and then back to the two strangers they had fought with. They immediately turned towards the hallway to check on their employer as they had heard more fighting happening. Much to their relief, it seemed that Tor and their employer were okay, as more people had come to aid them. In fact, their employer was leading the way as he approached them on the lounging car.

"Are you doing fine? Are you injured?" He asked them.

"No sir, we are fine. You?" One of the bodyguards asked.

"Miss Jollie tricked me, she was one of them… but I'm fine, Tor is too. And you… I suppose I must thank you." The businessman did his best to calm down. "Are you… are all of you together perhaps? You appear to be. It seems too that you appeared at just the right time to intervene, how did that happen?." The businessman questioned them.

"We boarded the train in Mistral, we saw them board there as well. They had been acting odd throughout the whole ride, and we decided to pay close attention to them." Morgan began.

"We then saw them begin to move and act even more suspicious and decided to follow them. We didn't know what their deal was, but once we followed them here, it seemed it had something to do with you. Once they attacked, we jumped in to help." Jack continued.

"Impeccable timing if you ask me. Why did you decide to follow them?" The businessman asked.

"We at first thought they could be after us, but then it seemed they had other plans. Whatever they had in mind was probably not good, so we decided to intervene. It's what we do." Aiden explained.

"What you do? Are you huntsmen perhaps?" The man asked them.

"Not exactly, but close enough, we have worked as huntsmen though, doing missions dealing with Grimm and criminals, and we help where we can. Why are we here? We just have our own business to do in Argus." Cole shrugged.

"Uh-huh…" The man brought a hand to his chin. "Sorry, the attack has left me a bit shocked. It's not usual for me to get this lucky."

"If you want we can give you space. We just wanted to make sure that nothing bad happened, and you don't owe us anything either." Cole offered him. "Though you should probably go to a place that's safe, and lay low for a bit."

"He's right sir. We should contact the MTC and the authorities right away." One of the bodyguards said.

"Yes. You are right, though I do say I owe you. Thanks to you I can say everything ended well, and probably the reason you and my contractors are still alive, and I do want to repay that." The man said as pulled a business card out of his pocket.

"Okay." Morgan extended her hand and received the card. "Mr. Dyan? That is you, correct?"

"I would like to say that as a member of the Mistral Trading Company we always settle our debts. Do call me if you want a reward or any sort of favor. I do owe you that much for saving me from them. I wonder which group or who decided to send them after me." Mr. Dyan began to wonder.

"Which? You have a list of people already?" Jack placed his hands on his hips.

"I must admit, it's not the first time someone from the MTC has been attacked. And there's been some… situations, you could say." Mr. Dyan said.

"You know, it's hard to say if they wanted you dead. They could have been trying to kidnap you, either for ransom or for some other reason. And that could be something they've been hired to do, or something they planned all on their own. It's better to ransom someone that can pay for it." Aiden said to him.

"You are quite right about that. But don't worry, I'll be careful from here on out. And I'll do my best to try and find out the reason for this." Mr. Dyan stated.

"Do try to do that once you are sure you are safe," Morgan recommended.

"Oh, don't worry. I will." He assured them. Right after, a group of guards and huntsmen entered the train car.

"What happened here!?" One of them asked them.

"I was attacked. Either a kidnapping, an attempted murder, or perhaps even some kind of attempted theft with violence. Three people tried… and these four came to my rescue thankfully." Mr. Dyan said to the huntsman that had asked.

"Truly?"

"My bodyguards and I can vouch for them." He responded.

"I bet you have cameras right? Well, these guys were paying attention to you, the guards, and the exits. They planned an attack and we decided to jump in and stop them." Cole said.

"Really? You figured that out on your own?" A guard questioned them.

"They did their best to be careful, but we had a hunch, we merely followed them in case they tried anything. They also had weapons, aura, and semblances, you can check them if you want." Morgan pointed towards the assailant that had been arc restrained.

"Uh… you. Is all of that true?" One of the huntsmen asked one of the bodyguards.

"It is. Those two saved my life actually." The bodyguard said, pointing to Cole and Morgan.

"And the other two saved my life as well." Tor jumped in to vouch for Jack and Aiden. With so many people saying the same thing, it seemed to be that it was indeed what happened.

"Uh… you think anyone is lying, Gunt?" One huntress asked another huntsman. Said huntsman looked at the scene and then at them.

"They don't seem to be lying. Maybe someone did slip past us." Gunt responded.

"Shit." One of the huntsmen cursed.

"Don't worry about it, I was fooled and tricked as well. One of them fooled me and convinced me she was interested in doing some business. Nearly paid the price for it." Mr. Dyan said.

"Very well. Please stay here. We'll check the cameras and see if what you said adds up. Are these two the only ones that attacked you?" A huntress asked them.

"There was a third. He was a bastard, we… kicked him out of a window during the fight." Jack said.

"We did," Tor confirmed.

"Huh, poor bastard will be in the middle of nowhere if he survived. And then who knows if he survives the wilderness." A huntsman commented. "I think I believe you all. But we still have to check, would you please stay here? If all went as you said then you'll be able to leave with no issue."

"Of course." Mr. Dyan said. The Outlaws nodded as well.

"Good." The Huntsman responded. Mr. Dyan and his bodyguards sat down on one table that was still intact, while The Outlaws stood close together on another side of the train car.

"Seems like something always happens when we travel around eh?" Jack quipped.

"Wherever we go, there seems to be trouble." Morgan agreed. "Never a dull moment eh?" She said and the others nodded and shrugged.

The rest of the journey went thankfully without issue. They got a full night's sleep and arrived at Argus early in the morning, passing through its large walls. Since they had little to no luggage, they managed to disembark first once they arrived at the station, leaving soon enough and stepping into the settlement itself. Though even if it wasn't as big as Mistral itself, they could confidently call it a city, as it was larger than any other settlements they had visited, Kuchinashi included.

"This palace is different," Aiden stated. The architecture was different from any other settlements they had been to. Mostly with the cobblestone, the far more western in design, and what seemed to be more advanced technology.

"Seems to be the case. And there seems to be more influence than just the weather." Morgan said, she took the chance to pull out a flyer she had picked up at the station.

"Mmm. 'Take the chance to tour one of the most prosperous settlements in Anima, a beacon of camaraderie and trade between the kingdoms of Atlas and Mistral. A settlement full of opportunities that was built in the effort of the kingdoms and draws inspiration from both of them in its architecture and culture-.' Well, I suppose that's the reason for it." Morgan said.

"Hmph. So the effort of two kingdoms went into this? Does it say why?" Aiden asked.

"This? It's mostly a tourist guide and, well, publicity. Not much history from the looks of it. Though I'm sure we can find out with our scrolls or by just looking around for another flyer.." Morgan answered.

"It's not really important, we are not gonna be here that long anyway. We need to go to- Wait… Where did they go?" Aiden and Morgan looked around as they noticed that Cole and Jack had disappeared from their sight.

"... There. What are they doing?" Aiden spotted them.

"They seem to be exploring part of the town. Taking in the sights." Morgan crossed her arms. Aiden for his part sighed.

"Don't be too bothered by it," Morgan said to him.

"I'm not really."

"Part of you seems to be." She eyed him.

"... We didn't exactly come here to sightsee," Aiden responded.

"Is it really a problem?" She asked and Aiden sighed again.

"Not really, no," Aiden said.

"Come on, you can't really blame them. This palace is different from anywhere else we've been. And you know they remember why we are here. They are not idiots." Morgan said.

"Are we sure about that?" Aiden asked her and she chuckled.

"Heh, I'm not sure. But hey, perhaps we all are. And I happen to want to sightsee too, I bet you do as well?" Morgan raised an eyebrow at him.

"Huh, okay, maybe I do." Aiden shook his head as he and Morgan walked towards their two other companions.

Jack and Cole for their part were in awe of the town, not because it was the most amazing town they had seen, even though it was nice, but because it was almost familiar. It reminded them of their own cities thanks to their western style.

"This place I can get behind. Those houses, heh, I would have spent entire days jumping from one to the other, even before I had powers." Cole grinned as he looked at the ledges, the protrusions that could allow someone to climb, and the differences in height.

"You would've slipped on all the snow," Jack commented.

"Oh shut up." Cole jabbed his shoulder. "I've done crazier stunts, snow is nothing."

"Oh, now I wanna see that, I'll record when you trip or slip." Jack laughed.

"Jackass."

"Shithead."

The two of them continued staring at the different parts of the town, looking at the cinema, the plaza they were close to, and the different shops and venues that were opening their doors. It had an overall peaceful and cheerful aura.

"You know, when this is over, we could try again and plan for that vacation," Jack said.

"See this new world and all that? Well, are we still going for that massive lake place or are we switching places? This place is nice, and seems somewhat away from everything else." Cole said.

"Eh, I'm sure we can go wherever, we are getting paid for the stuff we do." Jack reminded him.

"Well yeah, but all that Lien is being used on dust, ammo, food, and the apartment. We keep gaining it and we keep using it." Cole pointed out.

"Well… Lionheart paid for this one." Jack shrugged with a grin. Cole for his part deadpanned.

"What are you two doing?" Morgan asked as she and Aiden approached them.

"Ah just, planning stuff for the future, looking at the shop. Seeing what movies are screening." Cole said to them.

"Anything good?" Aiden asked next. Cole and Jack looked back at the cinema and then at each other.

"Heh heh. I honestly don't know. Don't even know how movies generally are on Remnant. But, I guess it's what you can expect." Jack said as they all turned to the posters in the cinema. The movies airing had names like 'Lake's Pass', 'Grimm Night', and 'Wild Heart'. "But anyway, it's pretty early, people seem to be going to work at this hour, where are we supposed to go?"

"Down the hill, a big house in the middle of the city. Seems to have a nice view of a park and the coast." Aiden said as he showed them a map on his scroll. Their current location and the house were highlighted.

"So that's Aurelius' house? Well, then we better start walking." Cole said.

"Actually, we might not have to," Morgan said and pointed to the middle of the street. There they saw a hovering streetcar pass by with an assortment of people inside, all of them taking the views and the streetcar carried them to their destination.

"Whoa! They float." Jack was surprised, quickly noticing other streetcars down the hill road.

"Yeah… I mean it must be dust what they are using, but still. Gotta admit, pretty awesome." Cole admired them, though he wondered if he could safely stand inside one.

"Here comes another." Aiden pointed to a streetcar approaching them.

"All right. Everyone aboard." Morgan said as they approached it.

There was a minor fare of two Lien, Aiden paid for everyone with his scroll, he was the one that was mostly in charge of their money after all. With that out of the way, everyone stepped inside and found a good place to stand or sit. Cole was able to step inside without issue, but he did make it his mission to not touch anything or sit, and hoped the rubber on his shoes would continue to do its job as it did every time he stood atop a car or vehicle. But with that out of the way, they were able to enjoy the road while they took in the sight of the town.

"This place seems honestly nice. It has a different ambiance. Seems calmer, and cleaner than other places of Mistral. Well other than Wolfpine maybe. But I thought larger settlements away from the capital were a bit more lawless. That doesn't seem to be the case here." Jack wondered as he looked at the buildings and the people walking about.

"I think I got an idea why," Morgan said as she watched an airship fly above them.

All of them turned their attention to it as it flew in the direction Morgan had been looking to, eventually landing on a platform that was close to a peak that rose from the water. That peak seemed to house a fortified base that had only a single bridge connecting it to the mainland.

"Those airships are different. And those guys are way too armed to be cops or guards." Cole stated as he looked at the base in the distance. "They seem to be patrolling. Hmm, those guys seem more like soldiers. Not even something like a militia, actual military."

"A military base or outpost. Yeah, that would certainly help keep the order around here." Aiden commented.

"That symbol, though, is not the Mistral symbol. Mistral has a lamp, these ones have a brush." Jack said as he looked at some of the airships, spotting the symbol as one of them flew above them.

"Maybe the military had a different symbol?" Morgan guessed.

"Oh no, those are not from the Mistral military. They are part of Atlas military." A voice said behind them, it was the operator of the streetcar. He was mostly just making sure everyone paid the transport fee, but he also acted as a tourist guide on occasion, and he had been standing close by and eavesdropping on their conversation.

"Atlas military? So they are from another kingdom?" Morgan asked.

"Yes. Atlas does have a stake here in Argus, it's a commerce center after all. Through here they receive natural resources they do not have in Solitas. So they make sure to help protect the city." The operator told them.

"And you are fine with people from another kingdom having their base and their soldiers right there? Doesn't it cause trouble?" Aiden asked.

"Well, they can be stubborn sometimes, and yes some of their laws and rules are different than ours, but their help is part of the reason as to why we can live the lives we have. This city grew through the cooperation and trade between two kingdoms. It has become one of the largest settlements through that cooperation. Even if it's mostly pragmatic. They help us and we help them, that's how it's always been here. It is also one of the places where you can find the biggest mix of cultures between two kingdoms." The operator explained.

"Hmm." Aiden hummed as he looked back towards the rest of the city.

"Well, they seem to be fine with it. Makes sense though, if it's important to both kingdoms they would both protect it I guess." Jack said.

"It does make sense, it seems like because of it this place has better law enforcement as well," Morgan said.

"They seem to, a presence like that around here would make it significantly harder for people to form gangs or criminal bases around here. But this place is a trade hub, Atlas tech must come through here." Aiden said.

"Smugglers must be prowling around here, or at least wherever the shipments go. Bet the families and others have their eyes here too." Morgan added.

"Eh that's different, you are talking about stealing shipments and robbing people, although that must happen from time to time. You don't have to actually rob anyone or steal stuff to smuggle things to others. Sometimes you just need a couple bribes." Cole said.

"Crime always finds a way," Aiden stated.

"Well, this place at least seems better than Kuchinashi or other places. At least here it looks like the gangs are not free to do whatever they want. " Jack pointed out.

"Oh, definitely. Far better." Aiden nodded.

They continued on their ride across town until they arrived at their stop, stopping at an intersection and traveling down some streets until they reached a quiet part of the city. Not many cars or people seemed to be around, though there were still a number of people going to begin their work shifts. But not only that, there were plenty of kids and teenagers in uniforms that seemed to be going to school. Eventually, though, they arrived at their destination, the Nikos residence.

"Is this the place?" Cole asked.

"It should be at the very least," Aiden responded.

"Hmm. Looks like a pretty nice house indeed." Morgan commented.

"Bigger than some of the others," Jack added. The house itself was big indeed. Not exactly a mansion, though depending on who you asked it might as well be one. It had three floors and it seemed large enough to house two large families and then some, it also had ample space for a garage. It wasn't exactly overly fancy, didn't even have a very large fence other than some black iron bars about the height of a grown person, the only thing that distinguished it from the other house was the marble pillar decorations at the front.

"Seems we should be able to walk up and ring the bell," Cole mentioned.

"Let's get it done then," Aiden said as they began to walk up towards the door. But as soon as they did, the door opened.

Out of the house came a teenage girl with red hair and green eyes. She was wearing a uniform and had a bag on her, she seemed to be going to school. She quickly noticed the four strangers standing outside her house and looking at her.

"Um… Hello?" She asked them.

"Uh, hi. Are you Aurelius' daughter?" Jack was the first to speak.

"I am." She nodded.

"Is he home by any chance? We have a sort of appointment with him." Morgan spoke next.

"Oh, um, well he's… I'm- I'm sorry, it's just rather sudden. We normally don't get visitors." She nervously laughed.

"It's fine, you don't have to worry. If he's inside, just letting him know we are outside should be good enough." Morgan said.

"Mmm. Very well, I can-" Pyrrha pulled out her scroll, but suddenly turned as she saw the door to her house open. Her father opened the door fully and looked at the strangers outside.

"Hmm. I must admit, I didn't expect you to arrive so soon or so early." Aurelius said as he walked outside.

"We came here as soon as we could," Cole spoke.

"I see."

"Is… is everything okay?" Pyrrha asked her father.

"It is sweetheart, I was waiting for them. It just seems like they arrived early." Aurelius flashed her smile as he placed a hand on her shoulder. "I will be talking with them for a while, for now though, you need to get to Sanctum."

"Right. Okay." Pyrrha smiled back as she began to walk towards the street, stopping monetarily in front of The Outlaws and facing them.

"It is a pleasure to meet you." She said with a polite small bow to them. The four of them nodded in response and soon after, she turned and began to walk towards Sanctum Academy.

"She is quite polite," Aiden noted.

"She is. It's something that she both learned on her own and that we taught her." Aurelius said. "Good manners are an important part of one's character."

"They can go a long way indeed," Morgan commented. Knowing full well what good manners could get you when dealing with people. They were good in general, but they also helped even when people weren't exactly friendly. They could always help breach that gap.

"They do, but for now, it seems we have other business. You are the ones that are looking for Xiu right? The ones that actually want to speak with him." Aurelius said to them

"Yeah, that would be us," Aiden responded.

"Then please come in. We have much to talk about." Aurelius said as he led them inside his house.

A/N: I'll admit, this wasn't exactly my best chapter. At least in the amount of things that happened really, or progress being made really. It was another train ride essentially, but with some important things that will come back in the future.

I had planned more things and scenes, but before I knew it the chapter was already long. But don't worry, no ideas are being scraped, and you'll see those scenes and adventures in the following chapters. Along with an effort in moving some things along in a more… speedy manner. Though like I said, no scene is getting scrapped.

Thank you for reading, follow, favorite, and review if you so desire, and I hope to see you again in the next chapter. Have a good day.
