This drabble is an A/U where Harry and Ginny never dated during their time at Hogwarts but are best friends where Harry goes with Ginny to Charlie's wedding in Romania. This drabble is rated T.
Note: this prompt is on my bingo card.
The morning light filtered in through the curtains of the hotel window, slowly brightening the room as the sun continued to rise in the sky. But Harry was too warm and content to get up and move just yet. There was a comforting weight on his chest and a flowery scent that smelled oh so wonderfully familiar filled his nostrils. He might have to take this weighted blanket with him when he headed back to England from Romania, it made him feel so secure and comforted.
Well, at least until the blanket let out a groan. Wait, what?
Harry's eyes flew open only to see red hair a couple inches away from his face, the head burrowing in closer to his bare chest.
And then the memories of last night came flooding back to him.
After Charlie and his new bride departed for their honeymoon, Fred and George went around convincing the remaining wedding quests to come out with them to a local pub. Sirius didn't take any convincing to keep on drinking and Remus, after some coaxing from Tonks to go enjoy himself and make sure her cousin didn't get into too much trouble, agreed to go. Harry was a bit hesitant to go, but when his best friend, Ginny, agreed to go out with her brothers, he found himself readily agreeing to go too.
The six of them went to a pub not too far from the old castle the wedding had been held at. Drinks started flowing regularly as the twins and then Sirius bought round after round. Harry found himself getting rather tipsy quickly and Ginny wasn't too far behind him.
When the others got up to either go get more drinks or use the toilet, Ginny had leaned into Harry before saying, "I like you a lot, Harry, you know that?"
Harry laughed before pulling her into him for a hug. "I like you a lot too, Gin."
She pulled away from him enough so he could see that her pupils were almost fully blown out, he could hardly see any brown around them. "No, Harry, I don't think you understand, I really like you a lot."
And then the next thing he knew she was kissing him and he was kissing her back, pulling her out of her chair and into his lap. He heard wolf whistles somewhere in the distance and then a hand was clapping him on the shoulder, causing him to lose contact with Ginny's lips.
"I knew this was gonna happen, I knew it! Hey, Remus, Fred, George! They finally ended up together! Took them long enough, didn't it?" A chorus of "About time!", "Mum's gonna have kittens over this, she'll already be planning their wedding by the time we get back to England!", "You go, sis, finally claiming what's rightfully yours, eh?".
Harry could see the angry look in Ginny's eyes at being interrupted. He carefully stood up, helping Ginny to stand and not be dumped out of his lap and onto the floor. He took her hand and started leading her towards the door.
"I think we're gonna go back to the hotel." His words were met with more wold whistles and Sirius shouting at him, "Be safe! I'm not ready to be a granddad yet!" But he ignored them all, his focus was only for the redhead before him that he had been trying to figure out how to ask out without ruining their extremely close friendship.
They walked hand in hand down the street away from the pub and towards their hotel a quarter mile away. Along the way they came across Bill and Percy as they headed in the direction of the pub they had been at, most likely on their way there to collect Fred, George, Sirius, and Remus due their highly inebriated state. While Harry had had a few drinks, he still had control of himself, even if his lips were a little looser. Well, it was called liquid courage after all…
The two older Weasley brothers saw them as they approached, and Harry knew the two had zeroed in on their tightly clasped hands. He watched as Percy whispered something into Bill's ear and then Bill's face break into a smile. They continued past the couple without exchanging a word.
"I think they think we're together now as a couple." Ginny said, leaning into his side as they walked the last little bit of the way to the hotel's front door.
"Does that bother you?" Harry asked, holding the door open for Ginny to enter the hotel lobby.
"Nope, it's my love life, not theirs. I don't need to them everything that we do and it's none of their business regardless." They reached the elevator and she pressed the 'UP' button to call the elevator.
Harry swallowed thickly before asking, "So, would you go out with me to get a drink or something some time then?" The doors of the elevator opened with a soft 'ding!' and they stepped inside. Harry pressed the button for his floor.
"You know I don't just kiss anyone unless I really want to date them, so I hope you want to give us being a couple a try." Harry just stared at her since she hadn't given him a 'yes' or a 'no'. Ginny rolled her eyes. "It means yes, Harry, I'll get a drink with you."
He let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. "Brilliant." The doors of the elevator opened and they got out, heading to the right.
"You want to know something too, Gin?" Harry asked suddenly as they reached his hotel room door.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, resting her head on his shoulder. "What do I want to know?"
"I really like you a lot too, I have for a while now, I've just been so afraid of ruing our friendship if I asked for more, for us to be a couple." He felt her pepper kisses along his neck at his words.
"Well that was rather silly of you, I've been wanting more for a while too."
"I guess I should have asked you out sooner. We could have had months, ages really."
She took the room key out of his hand and opened the door, leading him into the room and shutting the door behind him. "Well then, we should start making up for all that lost time."
They hadn't gotten up to much after that. They snogged heavily on his bed for a while before Ginny declared she was hungry. They ordered room service and ate on the floor, leaning against the bed and sharing kisses once in a while. They both started feeling sleepy after that, but Ginny hadn't much wanted to return to her room a few floors down. He offered her one of his tee shirts to sleep in before he stripped down to his boxer briefs. She crawled into bed with him after changing into his tee, snuggling up tightly to his body. They exchanged languid kisses for a few minutes before they fell asleep in each others arms.
And now here he was.
Ginny stirred in his arms, eyes blinking sleepily as she woke up. She lifted her head and looked at him in surprise, whispering, "It wasn't a dream, it all really happened."
"Gin?"
"Yeah?"
"So you do remember what happened last night? Or some of what happened?" Harry asked nervously. He was suddenly afraid that now that Ginny was sober, she may not fully remember what happened between them, or decide she made a drunken mistake by snogging him. Both ideas made his heart drop.
"I mean I had a few drinks but I wasn't that drunk. I remember what happened, I just thought that I was having a very vivid dream and this might not have really happened, but it did."
"Do… do you regret it? You know, what happened between us?"
Ginny shifted so her face was only a couple inches away from his. "I don't, do you?" He could see the nervousness in her eyes.
He hugged her tightly and kissed her. "No, I regret nothing. I've been wanting something like this to happen for a while now."
Her blinding smile lit the room up more than the sun coming in. "Good, I'd have to jinx some sense into you if you did." And then she captured his lips with hers again, and Harry found himself getting lost again in her kiss and touch.
He could really get used to waking up like this.
