Disclaimer: Fairy Tail and Bleach belong to Hiro Mashima and Tite Kubo respectively. The following chapter is a writing of my own imagination, and this story itself is inspired from the story "A Fleeting Flame and a Blithe Blaze" by Kitsune-Dama. This is the first time I'm writing a crossover, so I hope you guys can bear with me and any mistakes I make.
Obsidian eyes steeled as he walked out, his fellow Fairy Tail mages littered the destroyed Guild Hall in varying states of injury. His ears picked up groans of pain like never before, or at least in the memories of Yamamoto. The thudding of his cane was drowned out by battle plans echoing throughout the guild.
Despite how he had felt upon waking up, the aftermath of having his magic torn away from him still caused pain to Natsu, but he could still feel his ethernano container filling up at a rapid pace, much much faster than it had ever filled up before. And beneath that, he could feel a trickle of a drain on his filling reserves, spiraling off to somewhere that had not existed before, but also had existed in his entire life. His reiatsu was replenishing, siphoning from magic his reserves.
"I should probably look into that soon", Natsu thought to himself as his hand raised to stroke his beard. Only to remember he did not have one anymore. He sighed, "This is going to take some getting used to." His fingers tightened on the gnarled wood, a soothing warmth taking over him from his Zanpakuto that helped his aches and pains. It felt like he was old again.
His ear twitched, recognizing Laxus' voice coming from where Mira was. Natsu walked towards the giant lacrima with Laxus' face on it, hearing every word that came out of his mouth. His eyes narrowed in a spark of anger, Yamamoto's old spirit tempering his usual fire to a calm, if not rage filled, blaze. The last straw was his demand of having Lucy as his woman, with a sickening grin on his scarred face and Mira shattered the lacrima. Cana looked on in shock behind her.
Tears streamed down Mira's face. "" I can't believe it", her fist clenched in sadness and fury. "Is such a person… really a member of Fairy Tail?"
Natsu gazed at the shattered remnants of the crystal ball, a twinge of guilt at remembering about when he used to be a monster worse than that. Before he could delve deeper into his old memories, Lucy rushed up next to him."Natsu! You're u-"
"NATSUUUUUUUUUU!"
A blue blur crashed into Natsu's gut, making him tumble and crash into the table behind him. Splinters bounced off his skin harmlessly, the pointy parts jabbing at his still aching body. But even then, Natsu gave a small grin. "Heya little buddy".
Happy looked up, crying comically with snot and tears dripping down his face. "NATSUU, I WAS SO WORRIED!" That made Natsu's grin falter, only to come back up harder. "C'mon Happy, you know I'm tougher than that." He pulled himself back up slowly, putting weight on the gnarled cane that no one had seemingly noticed yet.
Lucy looked on from the sidelines, smiling gently at the interaction between the two partners. "It's good to see you again, Natsu." That was until a mug slammed into the pinkhead's skull.
"... What was that for Cana."
That made both Lucy and Cana pause for a second, not expecting Natsu to be that calm after getting hit in the head. Cana shifted on her stool and continued. "That's for rushing at Aria without any plan, and for disobeying Erza." She grabbed another barrel and lifted it to drink, ready to hear an outburst.
"Yeah, you're right. I deserved that"
Poor Mira got drenched in alcohol, credits to Cana spitting out whatever she was drinking. As she slammed a fist on her chest, trying to stop the coughing, Lucy and Mira gaped at Natsu. Natsu never admitted his mistakes that easily. They glanced at each other, then looked at Natsu who had an eyebrow raised towards Cana.
Mira reached out tentatively. "Natsu, are you okay? Did yo-"
Mira was interrupted by the rumble of the ground beneath her.
The guild went silent and looked at one another. The earth quaked again, and in the horizon something emerged, something very familiar. It was the Phantom Lord Guild, except the building moving, it's six legs supporting the entire guild as it approached Magnolia.
Natsu gazed at the moving Guild Hall. At one point, he would have been impressed, scared even. But Yamamoto's ego had more influence than it intended, influencing Natsu's way of thought and his mental control, so all he did was look at it with an inspecting look, absentmindedly noting Erza in a bath towel a bit away from him.
The moving Guild Hall stopped, a canon unfolding from the building interior and taking aim at the Guild Hall. Racking through his memory, Natsu cursed at his glaring lack of knowledge, but everyone else in the guild definitely recognized it, judging by their fear stricken faces.
Erza shouted at everyone to get down, rushing forward as she Requiped her Herculean armour. Natsu finally realised what she was trying to do. She was going to sacrifice herself to block the cannon shot. Unbidden, he shouted out. "ERZA!"
He reached out towards her, but was immediately stopped by Gray who grabbed him in a hold. Natsu in a hurry reached deep within himself, grabbing a hold on his pitiful amount of Reiatsu and chanted under his breath, inaudible to anyone. "Bakudo No. 81: Danku".
A clear mirror like shield formed before Erza, who's arms stayed crossed as she braced for the Jupiter Cannon Shot. The barrier held for a split second, before shattering and letting the magic projectile collide into Erza. The Titania was sent flying backwards, her armour cracked but still intact.
A silent sigh of relief, before Natsu rushed towards Erza and helped her up. Jose's voice echoed through the battlefield again. "After Makarov… Now Erza is unable to fight as well." Natsu slung her arm over her neck, he could feel her knees shake, most probably because of the shock from blocking the Jupiter cannon shot rather than her injuries.
"Hand over Lucy Heartphilia."
Natsu's eyes narrowed at the Phantom Guild Hall, silently looking at the cannon while Erza beside him yelled out in anger, saying that they would rather die than give up on Lucy. He glanced at Lucy, seeing her on the verge of tears. The sight made up Natsu's mind.
He slowly handed Erza over to Gray and walked in front of Mira, his cane slamming down on the stone beneath as a burst of flame erupted from the tip. He glared at the Guild Hall, noting the fact he had 15 minutes to break the cannon and channeled magic at his feet.
"Mira, Cana, you and the others can take care of things here I presume?" Flames licked his feet as he started walking. Cana nodded. "Good. I have a Guild to burn down." His walk turned into a sprint, the flames beneath him exploding forth as he jumped high into the air.
"Happy!" "Aye!"
The blue cat grabbed a hold on Natsu, flying him towards Phantom Lords Guild Hall. As they approached the Jupiter Cannon, flames built up on Natsu's fist, till it became a blaze that pushed Natsu and Happy forward. "Drop me, now." Happy compiled all too readily.
His eyebrow twitched. "I'll get you back for that you mangy cat."
"Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!" The flame encased fist smashed against the Cannon barrel. The Phantom Guild Hall shook on collision, but the Cannon remained intact. The only sign of damage was the small dent and a scorch mark. Barely made a dent, he thought to himself, looking around for a way inside, his eyes slowly landing on the tip of the cannon. He felt a grin crawl onto his face, a plan formulating in his brain.
Without a word, he sprinted towards the opening of the cannon and crawled inside it. It seems I was right, he thought while crawling through and out of the Cannon barrel into a room with a dark sphere attached to several wires and tubes. Gears whirred, the wires hummed with power as they channeled Ethernano into the giant Lacrima in front of Natsu, which he guessed was the power source to the Cannon.
He approached the Lacrima, only to have a gout of fire thrown at his feet.
"So, you're the one who's getting in our way." A man with half black, half white hair emerged from behind the sphere. A stripe of black streaked across his face, the fur collared coat he wore shifted with his every step. "Give up Fairy scum, for you are in the presence of Totomaru of the Elemental 4. Kneel be-". "Are you done?" Natsu interrupted with an unimpressed look, similar to the deadpan Yamamoto usually gave Shunsui during his antics.
A blood vessel throbbed. "You… You really like pissing people off, don't you?" He was Totomaru of the Elemental 4, a S-class Wizard. How dare a measly Fairy Tail mage brush him off?! Before Totomaru could continue his mental tirade, Natsu gave a grunt of annoyance, flames building up on the sole of his feet and disappeared in a flash of fire, only to appear in front of Totomaru with a blazing fist cocked backwards. Totomaru flinched backwards and tried controlling the flame. Only to find the fire staying stubbornly where it was.
"Blue Fire!" Flames of blue engulfed Natsu, making Totomaru smirk in victory. His face contorted into horror as the fire converged into Natsu's mouth in a large "Sluuurp". The last thing Totomaru thought of was "Dragon Slayer", as an reddish-orange, flaming fist sent him to the land of dreams.
"Hm… First time I tasted this cold of a flame". Natsu gazed at the unconscious fire mage next to his feet. "Thanks for the meal, I was starting to get hungry." Feeling his magic container fill, Natsu gathered fire at his feet and blazed forward again. Only one goal was set in his mind, and that was to beat the shit out of Jose until he cried for his ancestors. Walls were like cardboard, torn down in seconds underneath the blazing steps of the Dragon Slayer, not even pausing when the stone beneath him warped. Fire blazed beneath him, and he flashed forward in a streak of flame in front of Monsieur Sol who literally popped out from the stonework.
"Non, non, non, I am Mo-"
"Fire Dragon's Sword Horn", he uttered in a voice barely above a whisper. Natsu drove the tip of his cane into Sol's forehead, carrying him forward with flames and flicking him away. The walls to his left broke open, letting in a gust of air and the noises of battle from below. The man screamed all the way till he crashed into the sea.
"You children are a thousand years too young to challenge me."
It was at that moment Natsu was hit by a wave of nausea. The world around him spun as he stumbled around, trying to steady himself was useless as the urge to vomit grew stronger with every rumble. The stupid Guild Hall started moving again, he thought while barely managing to leap from surface to surface while the walls and floor around him kept moving.
"What the hell happened?"
The hallway looked different, the hole sealing up with gears protruding from beams and areas. The grinding sounds grated on Natsu's ears, tempting him to demolish them, but his patience and weariness of their purpose stayed his hand.
"Natsu! The entire Guild turned into one giant mage! We need to take it down before it completes Abyss Break, Cana says we have around 10 minutes before it's completed!"
Happy cancelled his magic, dispelling the wings as he plopped down on Natsu's head while relaying his message from Cana and the others.
"Also Gray and Elfman ar- Wait where did you get that stick from?"
Natsu's eye twitched in indignation, but was also satisfied at knowing the others did not realise the cane was something much more deadly.
"It's something I had my entire life Happy. I just decided that it was time to bring it out again."
Happy tilted his head in confusion. "You were born with a stick?" Natsu snorted at that, barely managing to keep his laughter down while he felt his Zanpakuto rage at being called a mere "stick".
"It's not just a stick Happy. And I hope I won't have to show you what it actually is anytime soon." Happy scratched his head as his confusion only increased, wondering if Natsu hit his head again since he actually sounded smart and old. The worrying part being smart.
Just as he turned to walk forward, he felt familiar magic come in contact with him.
"Natsu!" He knew this voice. It was Warren. He stopped mid stride at what he heard next.
"They kidnapped Lucy and Mira!"
Natsu's knuckles turned white, the gnarled wood creaking under the pressure of his grip. Shadows covered his eyes as the air around him grew hotter, to the point that even Happy, who had gotten used to the heat, snuggled under Natsu's scarf to avoid it.
"Hey Happy?" His voice called out gently, an underlying edge of pure rage barely restrained. The blue Exceed's ears perked up.
"Remember what I said about not wanting to show what this really is?" Happy tentatively nodded against Natsu's back.
"Yeah. I take it back." The wood disintegrated to ashes, leaving behind an unassuming katana, with purple cloth wrapped around the handle in his grip.
"Warren."
The man in question shivered, although Natsu could not see it. The pure steel behind his name alone almost made him feel bad for Phantom Lord. Almost.
"Tell Cana that I'll bring back Lucy and Mira soon." He shifted his grip on the Zanpakuto, he felt the flames beneath the polished steel begging to be released onto his enemies, but he did not give in. Despite his past life, he was now Natsu Dragneel, not Shigekuni Yamamoto, and he would not end up killing anyone in his rage.
But one thing was guaranteed.
Phantom Lord would burn, till not even it's ashes would remain.
