Munchkin Chapter 30
The Charmings pulled up to the stables and parked.
"Are we going to ride horses?" Henry asked in excitement.
"Horsies?" Emma asked in excitement as well.
"Yes, we thought we could have a picnic in the woods." David answered with a smile. He loved making his family happy.
Emma clapped her hands and jumped in her seat as much as she could with still being buckled. "Let's go! Let's go!" Emma yelled enthusiastic and everyone grimaced at her high pitched voice.
"We are. We are. Hold your horses." David said with a grin.
"I got no horsies, Daddy." Emma said with a little sigh.
"You have no horses, Emma." Snow corrected her.
"I know, please tell Daddy!" Emma said seriously.
David and Henry chuckled as Snow grinned at Emma's confusion.
"Come on, let's go." David said as he got out of the station wagon. He opened Emma's door as Henry got out of the station wagon. "Henry can you get the basket out of the trunk. I popped it already." David said before dunking into the car to unbuckle Emma.
"I ride horsey?" Emma asked with a hopefully expression that she could ride her own horse.
"You are going to ride with me or mommy." David told her softly as he got her out of the car and placed her own her feet.
Emma frowned up at him. "I ride on horsey alone."
"Sorry, kiddo, but that's not how this is going to work." David told her. "You have never learned how to ride a horse and it would be very dangerous for you." David told her softly.
Emma crossed her arms and pouted, but didn't argue with him.
"Can I ride my own horse?" Henry asked.
"Has the horse told you it was time yet?" David asked with raised eyebrows. He knew for a fact that Henry hadn't been taking care of his horse in a long time.
"Uh sure…." Henry responded.
"When was the last time you came here?" David continued.
"Uh….I am not sure." Henry replied with a guilty look.
"Then you will be riding with one of us too." David said with a smirk.
Henry frowned, but shook it off quickly before heading off to walk with his Grandma.
Emma was still pouting by her Dad as her Dad shut her door and grabbed his keys and phone. He locked up the station wagon before looking down at his daughter. "Ready?"
Emma bit her lip as she thought about her next move, but when she looked up at her Daddy she decided that maybe she should just be a good girl. "yeah." Emma said.
"Good because I'm ready to have some fun with my girl." David said as he took Emma's hand to lead her to the stables.
"Can we play swords and dragons?" Emma asked with a big grin.
"Sure, but after we eat." David said with a smile.
"Yay! This is going to be the best day ever!" Emma exclaimed as she started to skip as her Daddy walked. He walked faster than her anyway so skipping helped her keep up.

"Everyone set?" David asked as he looked over to his wife who had their daughter securely in front of her. Henry was riding behind David.
"Yes, Daddy!" Emma yelled with a big grin.
David chuckled at her excitement and locked eyes with his wife that was just as happy as he was that they could spend this time with their Emma. They knew in their hearts that this was temporary and would be over soon so they were deciding to cherish these moments.
They rode for twenty minutes and at first Emma did great with it because she loved riding the horse, but as the time went by she started to get tired of it.
"Are we there yet, Mommy?" Emma asked in a whiny voice.
"Almost, sweetie." Snow answered.
"When is almost, Mommy?" Emma asked.
"Probably another ten minutes." Snow answered.
"That long?!" Emma asked with another whine.
"That's not long." Snow responded with a shake of her head.
"Yeah it is." Emma grumbled.
"Not if we go a little faster. Should we race Daddy and Henry?" Snow asked with a smile.
"Yes, Mommy, Yes!" Emma yelled in excitement.
David rolled his eyes, but kicked his horse into motion. "Hold on, Henry."
Henry smiled and held on tighter.
"Go, Mommy, Go!" Emma yelled as she saw her Daddy get ahead of them.
Snow smiled as she kicked her horse into motion and quickly caught with Charming. Thankfully, She had less weight on her horse then David and Henry so it wouldn't be hard to beat them.
Snow hadn't raced in a long time, but her and Charming had done it plenty of times in the Enchanted Forest.
Snow and Emma just barely beat the boys to their picnic spot.
"We won! We won, Mommy!" Emma exclaimed with red cheeks to match her excitement.
"Hardly!" Henry exclaimed from behind Charming, but was smiling wide.
"Yes, we did, Emma." Snow said with the same excitement on her face.
David just chuckled as he helped his grandson down from the horse before getting off himself. "We'll just have to have a rematch later." David said as he walked over to his wife's horse.
"You'll lose again, Daddy!" Emma shrieked excitedly.
David chuckled as he reached up to Emma. "Come on, sweetie."
David set Emma down and helped his wife off the horse. After he did he took Emma's little hand and the basket of food before heading over to the picnic spot that his grandson had picked.
They laid out the blanket before setting up their lunch. They all sat down to eat a moment later.

While Emma and Henry played a game of tag with each other, Snow and David relaxed for a few minutes on the blanket.
"So I talked to Regina about Emma and she is confident that Emma will return to normal when she learns whatever lesson she needs to. She said that she remembered when Rumple was teaching her magic that she had a similar experience and once she learned the lesson she was returned to normal."
"What happened to Regina?" David asked curiously.
"She wouldn't say and I can't remember from when I was a child."
"Well that is good, but I am missing our adult daughter."
"I know me too, but this has been nice." Snow said with a smile.
"Yes, it has and we mays well enjoy it while it lasts." David said as he put his arm around his wife. They settle in to watch their daughter and grandson play in the meadow.
****OUAT****
After a sword fight, a couple of different games, and a lot of fun, Emma was ready for a nap. She fell asleep on the blanket with her head resting on her mom's lap. Charming and Henry had been engaged in another sword fight, but this time a little more aggressively then when they had been playing with Little Emma.
"Grams! I want to sword fight with you!" Henry called as he ran over to their picnic blanket.
"Here, I can sit with her. I need a break anyway. These kids have more energy them me." David said with a chuckle as he sat down on their blanket.
"Ok." Snow said with a smile as she adjusted Emma to lay on Charming's lap instead of her own.
"She's really worn out isn't she?" David said as Snow got up.
"She's had a big day."
Snow and Henry started their sword fight with Snow giving Henry tips here and there.
10 minutes later…..
Emma felt someone rubbing her back, but also a breeze on her face. She scrunched her face up in confusion before opening her eyes to see she was outside. "What's going on?" Emma mumbled sleepily has she sat up slowly.
"Hey, sweetie, you were just taking a little nap." David said softly.
"I don't take naps." Emma grumbled.
David nodded in realization, she was back to her adult mindset. Before David could say anything, Emma was feeling her hair and looking at what she was wearing.
"Why do I have pigtails?" Emma asked in horror.
"Well according to her mother, little you wanted them." David told her with a chuckle.
"Take them out! Take them out!" Emma exclaimed as she tried to pull at her hair.
"Emma, they're cute." David said with a huge smile.
"Dad!" Emma whined. "Please!"
"Alright, alright." David said with a chuckle before pulling out the pigtails.
"Put it all up." Emma asked.
"Ok, but I can't promise that it will look as good as when your mother does it."
"Anything is better than pigtails…"
David chuckled and started to put her hair in just one ponytail.
****OUAT****
"Why can't we use real swords, Dad?" Emma asked when they were having one last lesson before heading out.
"Emma, you are in a little kid's body. We aren't going to use real swords."
"But we did before." Emma countered.
"Yes, when you were an adult." David answered, thinking how they got in trouble with Snow for having a sword fight at home when she was at a meeting. They broke a lamp, a picture frame, and worst of all, Emma got hurt.
"But I am an adult!" Emma cried.
"Emma are we going to do this or just go back?" David threatened her.
"Oh alright, but when I'm back to being myself can we have a sword fight with real swords?" Emma asked with a puppy dog look.
"I don't know, Emma." David answered.
"Please, it was so fun last time and Mom doesn't need to know!" Emma said quickly.
"Okay, but we do it outside." David agreed.
Emma grinned widely. "Well what are you waiting for old man….are we going to sword fight or what?"
David shook his head with a grin.
****OUAT****
The Charming family headed back to the stables. This time Emma rode with David as Henry rode with Snow. About halfway to the stables, it started to sprinkle.
"Dad?"
"What is it, Emma?" David asked.
"Are we almost there?" Emma asked. Although she wouldn't tell him, she was cold from the rain and wanted to get in their car where there was heat.
"Almost, sweetie. Are you cold?"
"A little." Emma answered truthfully.
David untied the blanket from behind him and pulled the blanket in front of him to cover Emma with it. "Better?"
"Yeah." Emma said as she relaxed against her Dad.
David wondered if she would fall asleep again as she leaned her little body against him. She was worn out after their fun afternoon so he wouldn't be surprised if she fell asleep again.
As they reached the stables, it was raining a little harder so they quickly dismounted their horses and got the horses into the stables.
"Can we go now?" Emma asked as soon as they got in the barn with the horses.
"Not yet, we have to put the horses in their stalls and brush them down." David said.
"But I wanna go now!" Emma said as she stomped her foot.
"Emma, enough of that." David warned her firmly, trying to stop a tantrum in its tracks.
Emma frowned as she crossed her arms as she watched her Dad put his horse away and start to get the saddle off the horse. She was still in her 29 year old mindset as she watched her Dad work with the horse and she was trying to keep her 4 year old self from throwing another tantrum.
"Emma, do you want to help brush the horse?" David said, proud that she wasn't throwing a tantrum like he was figuring she would do.
Emma looked shyly at her dad and nodded.
David smiled at her and motioned for her to come over to him. He then picked her up, putting her on his hip, and showed her how to brush the horse. Then he gave her the brush so she could do it.
Snow looked over and smiled at David teaching Emma how to brush the horse. Emma seemed to be enjoying it too which was cute.
"Grams, do you think Mom wants to stay like this?" Henry asked Snow with a troubling look.
"No, honey, she doesn't." Snow said, knowing for a fact that Emma wanted to be back in her normal 29 year old body.
"But...She seems so happy with you and Gramps." Henry said, confused.
"I think it's complicated. She, like us, are enjoying this opportunity, but we all know this is only temporary and that is how it should be. We missed having this time with Emma, being actual parents to her, but we know that this isn't how it is meant to be."
"But you get a second chance with her. She gets a second chance at having you two as her parents."
"She will always have us as her parents, no matter what age she is. We love her no matter, just like she loves you and you love her."
"I do love her and although this has been fun, I do miss my... older mom." Henry said with a little grin. "But, if she wanted to stay this way... I wouldn't blame her. She deserves to be happy."
Snow smiled softly at her grandson. "You are such a sweet and selfless son, but I think Emma is happy being her normal self."
Henry nodded, but was still not so sure.
"Are you going to help me with my horse? Show me what your grandpa taught you." Snow said with a smile at her grandson.
Henry nodded with a proud grin.
*******OUAT*******
After putting the horses away and feeding them, they headed to Regina's for lasagna.
"Here we are." David said as he parked in Regina's driveway.
"I'm so hungry!" Henry said as he thought of his mom's lasagna.
"You are always hungry." David said with a chuckle thinking of how Henry had been snacking all afternoon.
Henry shrugged his shoulders, not denying it, and smiling.
"What about you, Emma? Are you hungry?" Snow asked as she looked back to her daughter who had been quiet for the last little bit.
"She's sleeping." Henry said with a chuckle as he noticed that his mother was asleep in her car seat.
David looked back through his mirror and smiled softly at his little girl. Then he shared a look with his wife. "Well we better go in before Regina has our heads for making her lasagna cold." David said.
"David!" Snow said as she playfully hit his arm.
"What? It's not like it that farfetched..." David said with a grin.
"You're terrible." Snow said with a sigh, but smiled before getting out of the car.
David got Emma out of the car and opened Emma's door and unbuckled her before lifting her out of the seat into his arms. He chuckled softly to himself when she didn't even wake, just kept sleeping soundly in his arms. He shut the car door and started to follow his wife and grandson into Regina's house.
"How was your picnic?" Regina asked Henry as they walked in. She was holding Neal who looked happy and content with Regina, but did seem excited to see his parents.
"It was awesome, but I'm really hungry! How much longer till we eat?" Henry said in excitement.
"You, hungry? Why doesn't that surprise me?" Regina said as she looked towards the charmings with a playful eye roll.
David and Snow chuckled in agreement with Regina.
"How was Neal for you?" Snow asked as she came over to take Neal's hand in hers.
"He was perfect." Regina said with a genuine smile towards Neal.
Snow grinned, loving that Regina seemed like she genuinely liked her son.
Regina then looked towards David to see him holding Emma. "Is she asleep?"
"Yeah, she had a full day." David said with a chuckle, even though he was a little hesitant around Regina, especially since how Regina had been with Emma lately.
"She is rather cute this way." Regina said genuinely.
"You should have seen her earlier when she was in her four-year-old mindset and had her mom put her hair in pigtails." David said with a huge grin.
"Please say you took pictures of that?" Regina asked hopeful.
"We did, David's determined to not let her live any of this down." Snow replied with a grin.
Regina smiled. "Well, the lasagna should be out any minute. Snow do you want to help me get everything set on the table?"
"Of course." Snow said, loving that Regina was being friendly with them.
"Henry, do you want to hold your uncle?" Regina asked.
Henry nodded and took Neal carefully from his mom.
"Come on, Gramps, let's go sit in the living room." Henry said as he directed David into the living room.
David smiled as he followed his grandson and then sat down on the couch wi Emma still in his arms. She was snuggled up to him, laying her head on his shoulder. He would wake her for dinner, but he didn't think he needed to wake her yet.
"Do you think we can play Mario after dinner? I know mom would like it." Henry asked with a smile at his shrunken mother who seemed to be sleeping peacefully.
"She would love that." David answered as he gently rubbed Emma's back as Henry bounced Neal on his knee.
********OUAT*********
Snow came in the living room. "Dinner's ready." She said before going to pick up Neal. "Go wash your hands, Henry."
"I better wake her up." David said as he rubbed Emma's back again. "Emma." He said softly. "Time to wake up, sweetie."
Emma groaned. "Sleepie." Emma mumbled as she moved her head on his shoulder, but didn't open her eyes.
"It's time to eat, Emma." Snow said as she reached a hand over to pat Emma's back.
"Tired, Mama." Emma grumbled as she opened her eyes, but only squinted at her parents.
"I know, baby, but you can sleep later." Snow said softly.
Emma pouted in her father's arms.
"Come on, let's get your hands washed." David said as he set her down on her own feet and started to guide her to the bathroom.
"I don't wanna wash my hands..." She grumbled then scrunched up her face adorably as she looked around. "Where are we?" Emma asked.
"Regina's, sweetie. Remember, she is making us dinner?" David said as he continued to guide her to the bathroom and to the sink.
"Gramma Gina?" Emma asked in excitement, starting to wake up.
"Gramma?" David questioned, knowing that Emma had never called her that. He wondered sometimes, if little Emma had a little different memory.
"Duh Daddy. She's my gramma!" Emma said, like he should know this.
"I know, sweetie." David said, but wondered how Regina would take being called Gramma by Emma.
