Chapter 9- First week back
James and Lily were able to select the books that they felt that they needed to at least start out some research on how it was even possible that they were able to return from the dead but, Harry had already gotten into some trouble with the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. James or Lily always had their end of the mirror with them at all times but, they really weren't expecting Harry to call them on his first day of classes back. James and Lily were about to get started on their readings when Harry called them.
"Hey mom, dad?" as they heard Harry speaking through the mirror.
"Yes, Harry we're here." Lily responded.
"How was your first day of classes?" James asked.
"Oh, they were alright I suppose." Harry responded.
"What happened what went wrong?" Lily asked as she could tell in Harry's voice that something was bothering him.
"Well, dad you'll be proud of me I already got a detention for the entire week." Harry said as a joke.
"You already got a detention even I didn't get a detention on my first day of classes we waited two three days to get a detention." James said.
"What did you do to deserve a detention, Harry?" Lily asked.
"Well, we have this new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and she is from the ministry, and you know how the ministry goes about dealing with Voldemort's return. Basically, to summarize she gave me a detention for saying that Voldemort's back and lying to the people about it." Harry answered.
"Did you try to get it reversed at least?" Lily asked.
"McGonagall said there was nothing that she could do about it and that I need to be more careful with the new teacher." Harry responded.
"You know what Harry it's not all that bad you stood up for what's right and that's what counts." James told Harry.
"Thanks dad I have to go serve my detention now I'll try to speak to you guys before I go to bed." Harry said as he got up to go to his detention.
"That's strange that McGonagall wasn't able to do anything about it." James said to Lily after Harry had gotten off on his side of the mirror.
"Yeah, it is strange I remember that she was able to get you out of some of your detentions." Lily said.
"If McGonagall isn't able to get Harry out of his detentions that must mean that the ministry is going to tighten their grip on Hogwarts." James said.
"Yeah, I feel like it won't be long till Dumbledore doesn't have any power in the school." Lily responded.
James was about to say something when suddenly Lily got up and ran to the bathroom and threw up James followed her to the bathroom to make sure that she was ok.
"Are you ok Lils?" James asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine just a bit nausea but I'm fine." Lily responded.
"Well do you want to just go to bed for the night and wait to see if Harry calls us tonight?" James asked.
"Yeah, that sounds nice." Lily answered as James helped her up and they got ready for the night and stayed up for a bit making sure that if Harry called that they would be awake just in case.
Harry was coming back to the common room after his detention it was by far the worse detention that he had ever had. Not only had it been with his least favourite teacher, but she made him use a quill that he was pretty sure that quill was illegal. His hand was already hurting so much from using that quill which cut the words into his hand and even though it was the first day back to classes he had a ton of homework that he had to do which would inflame his hand even more. Once Harry had gotten back to the common room he sat down beside Hermione and Ron and started on his homework. It didn't take long however to notice that Harry's hand was shaking and that something was wrong with him.
"Harry what's wrong with your hands?" Hermione asked.
"Nothing's wrong with them." Harry answered but, he made sure to cover up his right hand.
"Can I see your hands, Harry?" Hermione asked as she was not going to let this go.
Harry showed her the palms of his hands as he didn't want Hermione to find out what Umbridge had done to his hand.
"The other way Harry." Hermione said annoyed. Harry just moved his hands so that it was still his palms showing but instead it was in a different position. Hermione at this point just got fed up with it and turned Harry's hand so she could see the back and his hand and what Umbridge had done to him. She was shocked when she saw the words I mustn't tell lies on the back of his hand.
"Harry, you have to tell someone about this like McGonagall or Dumbledore." Hermione said.
"No, we can't Dumbledore and McGonagall are already in enough trouble with the ministry already we don't need to get them into more trouble." Harry responded.
"Mate, at least tell your parents what's happening with Umbridge." Ron said.
"Yeah, because then they can make a complaint to Dumbledore coming from a parent." Hermione added.
Harry considered this for a moment Ron and Hermione brought up some really good points on how he could tell his parents about this and maybe get Umbridge into a little bit of trouble.
"Alright I'll tell my parents but not until tomorrow I don't want to worry them as their going to bed." Harry said.
Satisfied with that answer Hermione and Ron turned back to do the rest of their homework for the night. As Harry turned back to do his homework, he contemplated telling them tonight, but he felt that he should finish his homework first and that it could wait till the morning.
