Kara stopped at the local deli to grab lunch for the three of them, partly to let her mother try some of her favourite food and also not wanting to inconvenience Lena. She still needed to write her article, but she'd raced around the city gathering the information she needed and she wouldn't be expected back at work for a while.

The building security waved her through, she had her own key now after all. A familiar face was waiting at the elevator, and Jack smiled when he recognised Kara.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

"My mother came to see Lena and Jora while I was at work so I thought I'd stop by with some lunch," Kara looked at the bunch of flowers in his hands. "Are those for Lena?"

"Yes," Jack smiled as they stepped into the elevator, "I'm glad she's not spending too much time alone. Lillian keeps dropping hints at work that she's worried about her."

Kara tried to smile back, but her heart had sunk at the sight of the flowers and she knew about his history with Lena. She listened to him ramble as they ascended to Lena's floor and she wished she had flown in instead. Lena wouldn't have liked that, but at least she wouldn't be in this situation.

Jack let her leave the elevator first, and followed Kara to the apartment, watching as she rang the bell. Lena looked surprised to see her and was about to ask why she hadn't used her key when she noticed Jack.

"I'm sorry, I completely forgot you were coming," Lena apologised to him as she invited them in.

"These are for you," Jack held out the flowers.

"They're lovely, thank you."

"I brought lunch," Kara added, holding up her bag.

Lena smiled, "thanks Kara."

Alura was holding Jora when they entered and she studied the new visitor who'd brought flowers.

"Jack this is Alura, Kara's mother, Alura this is Jack. We're old friends, we used to work together."

"Nice to meet you," Jack held out his hand, then realised Alura's were full and let it fall before turning back to Lena. "I know I'm early, but the lab supervisor called in sick so I'm playing hooky this afternoon."

"I won't tell anyone. How's your project going?"

"Slowly, so I thought I'd take a break."

Alura smiled at them, "why don't I help Kara unpack lunch while you two catch up."

She shepherded her daughter towards the kitchen before they could respond, though Lena and Jack's voices were still audible from that area especially for two people with super-hearing. Jora started to cry, so Alura suggested Kara take her into the other room and change her while she organised the food. She could hear Jack and Lena discussing work projects, and Jack furtively passed her something when he thought Alura wasn't looking.

"I just wanted to thank you for your advice the other day," he added in a whisper.

"How did it go?"

"Andrea agreed," he told her with a grin.

"That's wonderful. I'm so pleased," Lena hugged him, careful not to squash the flowers.

Kara must have used her powers, because she'd changed Jora in record time, and was back in the kitchen before they said any more. Jack looked around when Kara put a plate down on the counter a little too loudly, then turned back to Lena.

"I was going to invite you to come out with me for the afternoon, but I see you've got visitors. Rain check?"

"Uh..."

"We could go to the park, with Jora of course, and... are you free Saturday?"

Lena hesitated before nodding, "sure."

"I could watch Jora for you," Kara offered.

Jack smiled at her, "thanks Kara."

He took another look around the room, then said his goodbyes and left. Kara was quiet for the rest of the afternoon.

Kara took her mother to the local museum, wanting to show her the exhibit on Krypton, before they were due to meet Alex for dinner. Alura didn't speak as she stared at the pod which had brought her daughter to Earth, and Kara worried that bringing her had been a mistake. She'd just wanted to show that her adoptive homeworld cared enough to share about her birth planet, so that others could get to know about it.

"We can go somewhere else if you want? Nia told me about this great little bookshop, there are some books I really think you'd like," Kara offered.

"Okay."

Once they were outside, Kara brought her mother something to drink and they wandered over to the park to sit and talk. Children were running around, animals passed by, all without a care in the world. Or so it seemed to Alura.

"Sending you away..." she began, looking over at her daughter, "it seemed like the right choice at the time. The odds of Argo surviving were so small..."

"You were just trying to keep me safe," Kara told her. "I understand that now. Even though growing up on Earth was difficult, I had a good life with people who cared about me."

"Every day I wonder how different things would have been if I'd kept you with me. If I'd been able to watch you grow up."

"I used to wonder that myself, every time I had to make a big decision - what to study, where to live and work - I wished you were there to talk to, but that's the past. We've found each other and you're a part of my life again," Kara reached out and placed a hand over her mothers. "And if I hadn't come to Earth I wouldn't have met Lena and we wouldn't have Jora."

Alura smiled, "that's true."

"So, we should focus on the future."

"What are your plans for the future? Is this situation with Lena and Jora going to be permanent, with you passing in and out of their lives?"

"It's not like we can tell anyone the truth, not without revealing my identity."

"I saw your reaction when Jack was there, you were jealous."

"Of course I was, I love Lena!"

"If you don't tell her how you feel, one day it will be too late." Alura told her.

"She knows, she just... she's scared of being hurt."

"The Kara I know would never hurt her."

"I lied to her, about who I am, and her brother hates Kal - there's a whole history there..."

"Kal and Lois told me about Lex, but Kara this isn't about anyone else, this is about you and Lena. What do you want?"

Kara closed her eyes. She could picture it so clearly, she'd been thinking about it for so long now. Slowly she opened her eyes and looked at her mother.

"I want to be with Lena, to be a family and raise Jora together and if possible have more children and get married and have a home like the one I grew up in with the Danvers. Maybe have a little cottage on Argo so we can visit and spend long holidays there so Jora can get to know both sides of her heritage," Kara sighed, "but I have responsibilities. I'm needed here."

Alura tilted her head, studying her daughter, "perhaps at first. From what you've told me you have more support now than before with Dreamer, Brainy and your other friends. Supergirl is still needed, but she doesn't have to fight alone and that will give you time to live your own life. If you accept their help."

Kara thought it over, Nia had been on patrol a few times on her own and Alex was capable of handling a range of troublemakers.

"But what if..."

"I'm not saying you should move to Argo permanently, as much as I'd like that, just that you shouldn't have to spend all of your time trying to save the world. You deserve happiness Kara, you deserve to have a life the same as everyone else."

Kara smiled, feeling tears well up in her eyes. Alura hugged her daughter, letting Kara pull away when she was ready. She really did wish Kara would move back to Argo, but she understood that she'd found a new home and was just happy she could be a part of her daughters life. When they had both stared at the park long enough to relax, Alura spoke up.

"Now, what sort of books did you have in mind?"

Kara was nervous. After talking to her mother, she'd been thinking about what she wanted to say to Lena. She just hoped she wasn't too late, she knew Lena was planning on meeting up with Jack at the weekend and she didn't know how close the two of them were now. She'd spoken to Alex and J'onn, discussed the best way to cut back on her Supergirl duties.

They said they understood, she was a parent now and they'd find a way to make it work.

She knocked nervously on Lena's door, having left her mother with Nia so that she could do this alone. Lena opened the door wearing a baggy sweatshirt and jeans, her hair loosely tied back. She smiled at Kara, a little surprised to see her again so soon.

"I need to talk to you," Kara began, not paying attention as she entered and completely missing Lena's other guest.

"I thought you said Kara had already visited you today," Lex spoke to Lena, making his way across the room with Jora in his arms.

Kara's heartbeat stalled at the sight of her child in her enemy's arms, but Lena stepped between them to try and stop any confrontation.

"She did Lex, but there isn't a limit so be nice."

"I can hear the 'or else' in your voice," he teased her. "Perhaps I should take Jora for a walk to give you some privacy? She sounded serious."

Lena shook her head, "I agreed to you visiting, I don't trust you enough for that."

"Oh," Lex pouted and stared down at his niece, "your mommy used an alien truth seeker on me and she still doesn't trust me."

"Hmm, I wonder why," Lena rolled her eyes and took Jora from him.

Lex sighed, "I guess it's time for me to go anyway. There's work to be done, money to be made."

Kara stepped aside so he could leave. She listened to his footsteps as he walked to the elevator, pressed the button and stepped inside.

"So, uh, Lex..."

"He never stays long and usually turns up when I don't have any other visitors. If I hadn't known him for most of my life I might even believe he's sincere, but for Jora's sake I'm going to keep playing along to see whatever he's planning," Lena put Jora in her bassinet then turned back to Kara.

"Oh."

"I don't leave him alone with Jora, you don't have to worry."

"I'm sure..." Kara broke off before she accidentally defended her cousin's arch-enemy. "How are you?"

Lena frowned, "I'm fine. Why?"

Suddenly Kara was nervous again. She took a step towards Lena and had to stop herself from taking one back.

"Kara? What's going on?" Lena walked over, looking at her in concern.

"I love you and I want us to be together." Kara blurted the words out. "You said I can't stop being Supergirl and that's true but I can find the right balance to make this work, to make us work."

Lena stared at her in shock, "and when it comes down to saving the world and..."

"If the world is about to be destroyed then I have to go, because I'll be protecting you and Jora too. As for the day-to-day stuff... I'll work out a rota with the others."

"Become a 9 to 5 superhero?" Lena asked half in jest.

"Hey, no-one ever asks if Supergirl gets paid the minimum wage, or whether I've accrued some holiday hours for a break from it all."

"I suppose you've got a list of places you'd want to go for a holiday?"

Kara shrugged, "as Supergirl I only get time for a flying visit to other countries and with two jobs I never have time... I've never made time before."

"And if you had time now?"

Kara stepped towards Lena, feeling confident that this time she wouldn't push her away, "I love you."

"Kara," Lena's hands flexed as if they'd wanted to move towards the Kryptonian.

"I don't want to lose you. Give me one more chance to show you that we can be together. Let me take you out on dates, come to games nights again and just spend time with you. The first time I don't show up, unless it's for some world-ending catastrophe that needs all hands on deck, you can say it's over and I won't ask you again. Please Lena."

"Kara, I..."

Instead of speaking the words of rejection that Kara was expecting, Lena stepped forward and kissed her.
