A/N: Thank you to all who took the time to read and review. I appreciate it very much.
The text came in late at night and woke Lena up. One eye opened and blinded by the light from her phone she read it, 'I'll be home soon.' after reading that she was wide awake and nothing she tried to do to get back to sleep helped. What the hell did that mean? Okay, you'll be home soon, does that mean we'll finally talk about what happened? Are you going to tell me that you made a mistake?
Lena sighed as she lay in bed; she was really tired of her brain going into overload because of Kara.
Kara drove as she and Will headed back to National City. Will's head was hurting but that didn't keep him from talking a mile a minute about how they pretty much helped catch a killer. Kara did her best to listen and smile, because she was excited too but she also knew that she was going back home to Lena, to talk about what had happened.
Kara dropped Will at his apartment then she went to her own to shower and change clothes before picking Will up and going to CatCo.
When they stepped off the elevator the newsroom cheered and clapped for them. They were completely caught off guard but smiled and thanked whoever came up to them to say good job.
Andrea smiled at them then hushed the newsroom so she could make a speech. She raised her glass to them, "I knew sending two of my best reporters out in the field would get the job done. I didn't expect them to help solve a crime and get the local sheriff arrested. Kara, Will, I knew I made the right choice."
Everyone cheered again, as they raised their glasses to them.
Will hushed them again as he took a glass from the table, it was sparkling cider, "I just want to say thank you to Andrea for having the faith in me and Kara…." He said smiling at her, "This is the kind of journalism I have wanted to do all my life."
The elevator doors opened but no one paid attention as they were focused on Will, who was still talking. Lena stepped out just in time to see Will put his arm around Kara's shoulders.
"I couldn't have done it without this amazing lady right here." He said pulling her closer to his side.
Lena froze as the elevator doors closed behind her. Kara spotted her as Will continued on and their eyes locked. Lena spun on her heels and smashed the down button a million times it seemed to get the doors to open again.
Kara pulled away from Will and cut through the crowd to get to Lena but by the time she got to her she had already stepped onto the elevator and the doors closed. Kara took the stairs and beat the elevator down to the lobby.
"Of course." Lena scoffed as the doors opened and Kara was waiting for her.
"Lena…"
Lena put a hand up, "Let me stop you right there, I really don't want to hear about you and Will. You made a fool out of me and I don't want to hear it. "
Kara followed her as she walked at a fast pace towards the exit. "Wait, what? What are you talking about?"
Lena didn't slow down, "Andrea told me you and he had a thing and when I called you, he told me you were in the shower."
Kara grabbed Lena by the arm to stop her, "What the hell are you talking about?"
"I called you Kara, so we could talk about what happened with us and he picked up your phone and said you were in the shower."
"So you thought we….?" Kara looked at her confused.
"Did the two of you not date?"
"We went to three business events but it was far from dating. We were and are colleagues, nothing more. I told Andrea this when she assumed the same thing." Kara explained to her, "And I don't know what kind of person you think I am, but Will and I didn't sleep together."
Lena pulled her arm from Kara's gentle grip and stared at her, Kara could see the sadness in her eyes.
"I will meet you at your apartment later tonight and we can talk about everything." Kara told her.
Lena searched her eyes as if trying to read her mind.
"Please."
"Okay." Lena said to her, "But I swear Kara…."
"I promise you, I'll be there."
Kara watched as Lena left then not bothering with the slow elevators, she headed back up stairs and straight for Will.
"Hey, where'd you run off to? I was in the middle of my speech." He said to her.
She grabbed him by the wrist, probably a little harder than she should have and dragged him out of the newsroom to an empty office down the hall.
She pushed him in and shut the door behind them.
He wiggled his eyebrows at her, "Hey there…"
"No. Just no." Kara said shutting him down, "Who the hell do you think you are? Do you think you're God's gift to women?"
"I..We…we aren't …?"
"Absolutely not." Kara told him, "I'm not interested in you in that way and right now I'm not even interested in you as a human being."
She was trying to control her temper and not smash things, because she really wanted to.
"Did Lena call while we were out of town?" She asked, "Did you pick up my phone and tell her I was in the shower to make it seem like we … like we did something I would NEVER do with you?"
She stepped up to him, trying to get into as much of his face as she could, which was hard since he was taller than her, "Did you?"
He looked away from her, "Yes."
"And did you delete the call from my phone so I wouldn't know?"
"Yes."
Kara wanted to hit him, she wanted to so bad but she knew if she hit him she'd knock him through at least 2 walls. So she took a deep breath and a step back.
"Get this straight, whatever chance you had at being my friend flew out the window the minute you did that. You are nothing more than a colleague and that's all you'll ever be, do you understand me?"
"All this because you slept with her?"
Oh Rao, please let me toss him through a couple walls, please?
"No, all this is because you're a deplorable person." Kara said, "You have no respect for me or Lena and you're damn lucky that she doesn't know what you did because I can promise you I wouldn't stop whatever she planned to do to you."
"Kara…"
"No, I don't want to hear it and from here on out, don't talk to me unless it's work related." Kara told him and with that she turned and left him standing in the empty office.
With the party winding down, Kara went back to her desk and started to work on the article. Will cautiously joined her and they sat at her desk with their notes and worked the rest of the day to finish it together.
"You can have first on the byline." He told her as he got up from her desk, "You did most of the grunt work."
Kara didn't say anything to him as she printed out a copy of the article to turn in to Andrea.
"This is good stuff, Kara. You and Will make a damn fine team." Andrea said to her as she looked over the article again.
"Thank you." Kara said and before she left she added, "I would appreciate it, if you wouldn't spread rumors about Will and I. I told you nothing ever happened between us and that's the truth."
Andrea was surprised that Kara stood up for herself, "Won't happen again, I assure you."
When Kara finally got to leave the office she headed straight to Lena's apartment after a quick detour. She knocked on the door and waited for Lena to open the door and let her in.
"I brought you some donuts." Kara said with a smile as she held out the white paper bag.
"I don't want donuts, Kara I want an explanation." Lena told her.
The smile faded from Kara's face, she placed the bag on the counter, "Lena, I'm really…." But before she could finish she turned to Lena, "I have to go."
"What?!" Lena asked in disbelief.
"I'm needed…Supergirl is I mean." Kara said to her, "I'm sorry, but I'll be back."
And with a big whoosh she was gone.
"Son of a bitch!" Lena yelled in frustration.
It was late when Kara flew into Lena's open penthouse window. Lena was sitting on the couch looking rather pissed off.
"I ate your stupid donuts." Lena said throwing the balled up paper bag at her, "They were stale."
Kara caught the ball of paper, "Lena, I'm sorry I really am.
"You've been saying that a lot to me lately." Lena said, "But do you actually mean it?"
"Of course I mean it."
"You left me to wake up alone after, what I thought, was an incredible night together." Lena said, "How could you do something like that?"
"I'm…"
"If you say I'm sorry, I will muster all my strength to throw you out my window."
"But, I can fly."
Lena sighed.
"Right, not the point." Kara said then cautiously went to sit next to her on the couch.
"When I woke up and you were gone, I didn't know what to think at first then I couldn't stop thinking about it." Lena told her, "You made me second guess everything, I thought the worst of you and I thought I'd done something wrong. You made me feel like you were ashamed of what happened."
"I asked you if you thought it was a mistake and you didn't answer me then." Lena said looking at her, "So answer me now, was it a mistake?"
Kara shook her head no, "I couldn't answer you at the time because I was panicking. I just slept with my best friend and I didn't know what that meant for us beyond that night. I didn't mean to make you second guess everything. I'm sorry I made you feel so alone or that I was ashamed."
"We worked so hard to fix our friendship after you found out I was Supergirl and I didn't want to do anything that would mess that up but…" Kara paused.
"But what?"
Kara scooted closer to her, "But even though I was scared I might lose you as a friend, I couldn't help that my feelings for you had grown beyond friendship. I wanted us to be more and that night was amazing but the next morning I just felt like I had let my feelings for you screw everything up and I had to get out of there."
Lena sighed, "Had you stayed that morning, you would have known just how happy I was to have you in my bed. You would have known I had feelings for you as well."
"So I did mess everything up." Kara said sadly.
"You sure didn't make it any easier. But when do you ever make anything easy?" Lena asked with a chuckle.
"Where do we go from here now?" Kara asked.
"What do you want, Kara?" Lena asked, "Because what I want is you that much I'm sure of. But if you don't want this, if you're embarrassed or too scared, if you have a problem with the whole Luthor/Supergirl thing then tell me now."
Lena looked her in the eyes, "And be sure about it, because I won't go through again what I went through the last few days."
"I am truly sorry for the way I left and for the way I made you feel." Kara told her, "You're right, I put you through hell but while I was away someone helped me realize things more clearly." She took Lena's hand in hers and held it in her lap, "I don't want to regret not telling you how I feel or regret not being with you because I'm scared of what I might lose. I want to hold your hand, kiss you, take you to dinner, show you off and tell people you're my girlfriend."
Kara smiled, "That may sound mushy but it's what I want. I know I can't promise you that I won't ever have to leave in the middle of a date or that sometimes Supergirl will take priority but I can promise you that I'll never make you doubt how I feel about you ever again."
"So what are you saying?" Lena asked coyly.
"I'm saying I love you and I want you to be my girlfriend."
"Ask me nicely." Lena said to her.
"Now look who's not making things easy." Kara said and Lena smiled.
Kara cleared her throat, "Lena Kieran Luthor, will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend so that we may make out and cuddle anytime we want?"
"I'll think about it." Lena said her nose in the air.
"Well don't think too long, I've had other offers. Will is very persistent."
Lena gasped as she turned to look at her.
"Too soon?"
"You're lucky you're cute and that I love you." Lena said as she pulled Kara in and kissed her on the lips.
Kara pulled back, "Wait so does that mean you're my girlfriend?"
Lena sighed, "Yes, Kara."
"Good." Kara said smiling then leaned in to continue kissing her girlfriend.
