Hello! I am sorry this is really late! I was going to post it and then I re-read the end and added onto it, getting caught up in the moment. Hope you all enjoy it!

Mai looked up at the SPR building. It had been years since she had been to this specific area of the city and any time she was driving through, she purposefully avoided looking at it for fear of nostalgia. After Naru left to take Gene back to England, Mai decided that she needed a career change. She loved working at SPR, but she wasn't sure when, or if, Naru would ever grace her with his presence. So, she gave up and moved on. Started studying psychology and criminal justice, and soon took on a multitude of jobs each one giving her a new aspect of the system and varying perspectives. It was tough, at first, and she thought that she wouldn't get nearly as far as she was, but when she gained an opportunity to speak out about her thesis at an annual conference, she knew she'd turn heads.

She was still fairly new to the job she currently worked for at the time, and when she found out she was pregnant, she did everything in her power to hide it. It wasn't like she was ashamed, but she worried that people would give her less responsibility because of it and try to baby her through a new position. She just wanted to be treated fairly and be given the respect she worked her ass off to deserve.

Everything still looked the same, although she noticed that the Café under SPR was under a different name and looked newer. A frown caught its way onto her lips. She liked the original one and had looked up to the woman who ran it considering she was over 80 years old and still insisted on working. Occasionally Mai would buy tea from her or special blends of tea leaves and relished in the unique flavor that the woman was able to craft. Unfortunately, time was not going to stop just for Mai and she watched as some young school kids went inside all laughing and smiling.

Realizing that she needed to stop stalling, Mai made her way up the stairs and knocked softly on the door before entering. Quickly taking off her purse and coat, she hung them on the wall before fully taking in the room. The office looked similar, but she acknowledged the lack of personality that was about the walls of the main room. When she worked here, she always made it a point to decorate the walls with photos of the team and paintings that she found around the locations they visited if Naru ever let them explore them.

"You're here, good," Naru said coming out into the room from his office. "Let me get Lin and we can discuss the current case."

Mai watched him knock on Lin's door and dip inside. Figuring they might take a second or two, Mai took it about herself to make some tea. She didn't need to search for anything because it was all in the same place it had always been in and set up the way Mai always had it. It did not take her long to finish everything up, place it on a tray and eventually move out to the main room. Naru and Lin already took their spots across the couch at two armchairs and she quickly set the tea down, shagging a cup for herself, and leaned back into the couch facing them.

"We received this request from the principal of the school, as I am sure you guessed, and his main concern was stemming from seemingly random events happening. The only common denominator was Ren's presence." Naru flipped over a few different accounts. "The only areas that any events occurred inside the school were in areas that aligned up exactly with his schedule. Those that were outside were during outings within his schedule as well, and most accounts were had by his teachers."

Mai nodded and sighed. "Honestly, I figured something like this might happen sooner or later." She said looking down at her tea. "I've been keeping an eye on any possible potential that he might show his whole life." Setting her tea down, she stood and walked over to the coat rack where her purse was. Reaching in, she grabbed a flash drive and a few papers. She came back to the two and placed the papers down with the drive on top and pushed it over to them.

"The prints are just detailed summaries; you can find the full ones on the drive along with videos of any outbursts." She said gesturing to the items on the table. "When he was a baby, there wasn't an issue. In fact, he was a great baby. Never fussed, really, always ate and slept through the night without fail." Smiling slightly, she looked to the both of them as Naru would skim one page and hand it to Lin, repeating the actions for the entire document. "I was so worried that he might not cry if something was wrong, so I even got a monitor system that kept a record of his heart rate, oxygen saturation, and any temperature changes." She rubbed the back of her head slightly embarrassed.

"Anyway, I first started noticing slight changes when he turned two. The old adage of the "terrible twos" is very real, I can tell you that now. At that stage, a child's emotions are really hard to control, make sense of and predict, for the parent and kid alike. He was upset about a movie we had watched when the main character got hurt. Anger was the first emotion I had the pleasure of experiencing with him." She thought back to the tears he had shed and the yelling. His face becoming red and his body temperature rising along with some objects around the room. She had to replace two whole sets of dishes the following day and found glass and porcelain scattered everywhere for three days after the event. "It took longer than I care to admit for me and him to learn together how to manage his outbursts and, thankfully, he appeared to be able to use his PK without any cost to his health."

Naru and Lin looked slightly taken aback by all that Mai had revealed to them. When she was younger, she did not have the forethought to cover all her bases like she had been doing for her son. Motherhood would do that, they supposed.

Using his pen to write down his own notes onto the papers Mai had handed them, Lin looked up and frowned. "Has this been the only ability that he seems to possess?"

Mai sighed. "If you would have asked me that before you guys came back, I would have said yes. However, he has apparently been talking with Gene, which explains to me why he was already familiar with Naru before he even met him."

Naru and Lin looked at each other before Naru looked back at Mai. "You mean to tell me you think he has both your and my abilities?" At Mai's nod, he leaned back in his chair, the possible complications already popping up in his head.

"You used to work here, Mama!" Ren's smiling face brightened up the room better than any picture on the wall could. "Wow! This is so cool! Papa, you work here right now, right?"

Naru nodded to him and lifted Ren onto his hip when he raised his little arms in a clear sign of wanting to be held. "Let me show you the rest of the office." He moved with his son to the hallway leading to his and Lin's office as well as the bathroom.

Mai smiled as she watched them go. Part of her felt defensive to take her son back, jealous of the lack of attention her son was giving her, but she ignored the feeling. Ren and she had been together for a while and, even though he never said it out loud, she knew he wanted a father in his life. She would never take that away from him, but she also wouldn't let anyone get in between her and her son. Not after all they had been through. All the nights she stayed awake rocking in his rocking chair watching him sleep for fear that someone would nab him in the middle of the night.

A hand on her shoulder startled her out of her mind and she turned to look at Monk. He had rushed over when he heard Mai and Ren were going to be visiting the office and, after a lot of persuading and begging, accompanied Mai over to pick Ren up from class.

"Where did the little man run off to?" He asked looking around the room.

"Why don't you go find Naru and take Ren from him." She said, nodding her head in the direction they went.

A look of cheekiness passed over his face and Mai watched him stalk off towards them. It didn't take too long for a smacking noise to be heard before Monk ran out of Naru's office sporting a lump on his head. Mai laughed so hard she had to balance on the back of the sofa.

"Did-did Naru hit you?!" She couldn't stop thinking of the hilariousness of the situation.

Speak of the devil, Naru walked out of his office, Ren still on his hip oblivious to the circumstances. Seems like Naru was just as protective of the little boy as she was.

Trying to regain a slight composure, Mai stood straight and wiped a tear off her cheek.

"Touch him again without waiting for me to put him down, and I will break your fingers," Naru said shifting slightly. Ren kicked his legs, an indication he wanted to be put down, and Naru obliged him by bending down to his level and letting him go. Looking back to Monk, Naru glared. "What are you doing here in the first place?"

Monk laughed and patted Ren's head as the boy hugged his legs. "Well as much as I love seeing you, boss," Cue a glare directed to Naru, which Mai laughed at. "I was missing my lovely sister and her handsome son because someone was hogging them for the weekend."

They started to argue, Naru mentioning the small size of Monk's brain and Monk talking about how much of a brute Naru was. Mai looked down when someone launched their small body into her legs. Ren wrapped his arms tightly around her legs and Mai began walking with him standing on her feet.

"Mama!" He squealed in laughter and buried his face into Mai's legs.

She reached down grabbing him under his arms and lifted him up bringing him to her front. Placing a multitude of kisses across his face, she laughed when he did and her heart warmed at the sound. Neither of them noticed the two sets of eyes watching their private exchange, both smiling to themselves at the moment.

Ren looked at his mother and smiled. "You and Papa used to work together, right?"

Mai nodded. "Yes, that's right."

"Will you guys be working together again?"

In all honesty, Mai had thought of the same thing, but she couldn't see a reason for them to work together for any reason aside from being there for Ren. There was no way she would willingly quit her current job and career to return to the one she gave up.

"No, I don't think we will unless either one of us needs help." Ren looked very saddened by the answer she gave him. "That doesn't mean that we won't be together with you, honey." She hoped that all he needed was the reassurance that they would not leave him.

It seemed to do the trick and Ren bounced back fairly quickly. The office was calmed into chatter and side conversations. Naru ended up helping Ren with his homework, though he didn't need much help; Mai made sure Ren had access to any tutors he may have needed, but it was just cute to see the two interact. Mai couldn't help but think about the fact that Naru looked like he was talking to a miniature version of himself. She paused in her conversation with Monk and Lin when her phone rang. The ringer was Kado's and Mai quickly slammed her tea down before moving over to the kitchen to answer the call without much background noise. Her quick movements drew the eyes of the adults in the room and Naru looked to Lin, silently asking him to watch Ren while he was distracted working on a science problem.

Stepping into the kitchen and leaning against the doorway, Naru stood somewhat awkwardly as he watched Mai's form leaning over the sink, bracing herself on the counter with one hand and the other holding her phone to her ear. She nodded a few times at whatever was being said over the line.

"I'll be there in about thirty minutes, let me talk to Naru really fast." She said looking up and startling slightly not seeing him there at first. "Yes, sir." She hung up and held Naru's gaze before letting a breath out. Fear and panic danced across her face like a vaudeville act.

Stepping forward Naru placed his hands on Mai's shoulders. "Mai, what was the call about? Is everything okay?"

She reached up and grasped one of his hands. "I need to go to this call, could you please keep an eye on Ren?" Her eyes pleaded with him and he quickly nodded to her, not that he would ever tell her 'No' with or without the dread on her face.

"Absolutely, anything, Mai."

Walking over to the counter closest to her she grabbed a notepad and pen, quickly scribbling down something on paper. She tore it off and handed it to him.

"I need you to leave, right now. Go with Kaito and get to this address." She ran a hand through her hair and went to walk past him but he grabbed her arm.

"Slow down, Mai." He pulled her back to him. "What is going on? Whose address is this?"

"Naru," She stressed. "I can't tell you right now, this is an emergency. Please trust me." She said looking him in the eye. When he nodded, she sighed leaned in, and kissed his cheek. "Thank you." Smiling as best she could, she walked out of the kitchen leaving Naru there, somewhat stunned. He could hear her saying goodbye to Monk, Lin, and their son, and came out of the kitchen in time to see her press a kiss to his head that she held in her hands. "I'll be right back, okay? I love you."

"Okay, Mama!" He looked absurd with his cheeks being cupped like they were. "I love you more!"

Mai smiled at Ren and kissed him on the tip of his nose. "I love you most."

She quickly left and Naru looked down to the address. Just what was going on?

Alright! I am getting really excited to start getting into this next conflict in the story! I am having so many different ideas for a different scenarios, so I've been trying to write them down like crazy before I lose them!

R&R if you can! See you all next time!

Cheers!
