"The world is in chaos. The second world war has claimed millions of lives, leveled cities, destroyed nations. The souls of the war's dead blanket the planet, lost, hurt, and angry. Their anguish summons an accursed castle of legend. It has appeared many times throughout history, bringing with it evil and darkness. The castle of the lord of evil. It arrives in man's darkest hour, to push us over the brink, into ruin." Luz read from her journal. She had written it down from one of her dream memories about a warrior who lived in 1944, after WW2. Reading it aloud though did nothing to amuse King.
"Luz, you're getting too swoony with this kind of stuff."
"Shut up, King." Luz said. "This stuff is important to me."
"Yes, I know." King whined. "You've said that like 27 times already...but keep reading. These stories always get me sucked in."
Luz chuckled a little as she continued to read. "Anyway, two heroes arrive at the doors to the abandoned demon castle, which swing open..."
"Ding‐dong. Ding. Hoot! Hoot!" Hooty said as he swung open and shows a basket at the doorstep.
"Ah! The book has come to life!" King screamed. "Burn it!"
"Would you relax, King?" Luz said as she walks up to the door and sees the basket. She feared that they have been storked and that this was baby a selfish person left at their doorstep. She then takes the basket, feeling that it was in fact as heavy as a baby as she carries it over to the kitchen, where Eda was.
"Eda! We got storked!"
"Aw, not again." The witch says. "It's hard taking care of one baby."
"I am not a baby!" King yells.
"Well, let's see what this beast looks like." Eda says as she pulls a blanket off the top of the basket, revealing a snoring baby bat.
Luz then said "Aw, it's actually pretty adorable."
"And delectable." King said in a creepy tone and while licks his lips under his skull of a head.
"We're not eating it, King."
"And the good news is we're not taking care of it permanently either." Eda said while holding a note that was next to the basket. "Seems as if the Bat Queen wishes for us to babysit her child until the next day."
"Bat Queen?" Luz said with suspicious concern.
"Relax, Luz. She has zero relation to the creatures of the night." Eda explained while also taking some snails from the basket. "She's the wealthiest demon on the Boiling Isles. Get in with her and you're set for life. So, we keep this thing alive for a few hours and we get paid. Pfft. Easy."
"Well, you're gonna have to do that without me." Luz said. "I'm supposed to meet up with Amity at the Library for research. So, I'll see you guys when you're done."
"Just a minute, Luz." Eda said right before handing a large stack of books over to the girl. "I need you to return those for me."
"Oh, joy." Luz said as makes her way out.
"Well, this shouldn't be a problem." Eda said confidentially. "Now, let's take a look at this little darling."
Taking the blanket off completely, the Baby Bat began to screech a loud and it made Eda and King begin to panic. As soon as the baby flew right at Eda's face, making her fall down, did the two realize that they had their work cut out for them.
Cutting back to Luz, she had no problem carrying the load of books in her hands, as she tapped into her family's supernatural strength. She saw Tiny Nose pass by with a book that was the same size as her as she continued to walk down the street towards the library. The building itself was impressive, Luz thought, as she heads inside and the books glowed green before floating out of her hand. They flied through a red spell circle, which beeps as the Librarian marked them as late.
"Late, late. Coffee, grass and bloodstains? These are Eda's, aren't they?"
"Is it that obvious?" Luz asked.
"I'll put it on her tab." The Librarian sighed.
"I'm looking for Amity Blight. Is she here anywhere?"
"You're in the library. Figure it out." The Librarian rudely said. "And you better make it quick, because we're closing early today for the Wailing Star meteor shower."
He soon finishes up writing down in scroll before rolling it up and disappearing.
"Well, that guy was rude." Luz said as she started to look around the library. The place seemed pretty interesting for her, as she saw the Demon Decimal System, a line of books flying above the balcony, and the he reference section, where witches are watching things on crystal balls. One is watching a "HOW TO FLY" video, another is watching a piano cat parody, and a third is stuck on a loading screen, dial-up internet noises emitting from it. The last witch slaps the crystal ball a few times. Luz enjoyed the sight of it.
"This place is like any other library, but with magic."
"'What do you think you're doing?'" Amity's voice cane be heard, making Luz look to where she can see the mint-haired witch reading to kids. "Well, there's something you don't see everyday."
" 'We're you're friends and we wanna help,' said the Tin Boy with a yelp. Otabin smiled and paced the floor. 'I've never had real friends before.' " Amity read while Luz watched in amusement from afar. " 'Then we'll be your first,' the Chicken Witch clucked. Otabin couldn't believe his luck. So, Bookmaker Otabin surrounded by friends, bound a book of friendship and that's the end."
The kids applaud her while Luz smiles at the sight of it. But it was then that she noticed that Amity's uniform was different. No longer did she wear the black tunic with purple sleeves and legging that indicated her place in the Abominations' Track. instead, she wore a black vest that had almost a demonic wing-like design to with gold lines over a long sleeved purple shirt that had two white diamonds at the side of the biceps. Around her waist was a red scarf over black pants and boots, and her hands were covered by two long, black and white gloves. Luz recognized that uniform anywhere, seeing Amity as almost the spitting image...of a Devil Forgemaster. This triggered a flashback of a memory of Luz's ancestor...
The Platinum Haired man walks into a large room, when someone approached him from behind.
"Wait! That crest... Are you the devil forgemaster?"
The platinum haired man turned around to see another man, who's scar ran across his eye as he held a leather whip in his hands.
"That whip... Could he be...?" He asked.
"Answer me! Are the devil forgemaster?!"
"I am." He answered.
"Then this is the hour of your death!" The scarred man says, readying his whip.
Luz knew that forgemasters were often servants of darkness, and it was her family's duty to vanquished them as she does the creatures. But the platinum haired man who her ancestor had fought...he was proof that not all forgemasters were servants to the Night. She only hoped that this would be the same with Amity as she walks out and sees Luz.
"Ah, Luz! You're here!"
"Um...I saw you reading." Luz said, regaining her cool. "Never thought I'd see something like that."
"It's just for extra credit." Amity explained while shaking her head. "Don't think too much of it."
Luz replied "Right...So, what's the new uniform?"
"Ugh. I've been accepted into a new class at Hexside, and they see students need to wear these." Amity reluctantly answered while adjusting her vest. "Who would even wear something like this? It's not even remotely comfortable."
"I never would've guessed." Luz said.
"Anyway, it's said that the class is supposed to be much more advanced than just simple abomination magic, so my parents wanted me to take advantage of it. But I don't wanna get my hopes up."
Luz then said "Well, I for one think you'd learn a lot more than what you want."
"Whatever." Amity said simply. "In any case, I've managed to find some thing about your family's history."
"Really? I'm surprised."
"So was I." said Amity. "At first I thought there wasn't much to look at, but then I saw it dated back to the year of 1792 from your dimension."
Luz widened her eyes, saying "That's Richter's era."
"And that's the name that came up for me. A blue cladded Belmont, one of many to vanquished the Prince of Darkness in your family's cycle of fate. Soon after, does he and all others descendants of your family simply vanish from history."
"And that was when Ecclesia show up." Luz added, to which Amity replied "There's still many pieces of the puzzle missing, but I'm looking through everything that's available to me here."
"Can you show me where you found all this?" Luz asked.
"Sure, follow me." Amity said, leading Luz through the library. But then, do they stop when they hear one of the two most irritating voices in Amity's life makes flinch.
"Hey, mittens!"
Amity's anger was growing while Luz was getting confused as the two turn around to see two minty-haired twins behind them. One being a boy, and the other being a girl, yet the both had pale skin, pointed ears, golden eyes, thick black eyebrows, emerald green hair, but the boy had a mole under his right eye and girl had one under her left. The boy's hair was short, and the girl's had hers tied in a ponytail, yet the two of them have the same mischievous smile on their faces. Amity glared at them both as she saw the boy holding a lunch bag that looked like a rabbit.
"Mom says stop forgetting your lunch." The boy says as Amity snatches her lunch bag from him. Meanwhile, the girl was busy looking at Luz, walking around her until she put her around Luz's shoulder.
"And who's this cute little thing?" She asked. "A new friend of yours, Mittens?"
Luz shook off the girl's arm as she then told her "I feel like I should be asking you that."
Amity grunted, saying "Luz, these are my siblings. Edric and Emira."
The two smiled and waved innocently, but Luz wasn't so amused.
"Charmed." She said simply.
"So this is the human we've heard all about." Edric said. "Is it true that you're really a Belmont?"
"That depends...are you planning to kill me?"
That question took the twins by surprise before Amity stepped.
"Look, we're a little busy with research right now. So why don't you too just leave if you're not here to check out a book?"
"Research?" Edric asked. "That's lame. Why not hang out with us, Belmont?"
"We're much more fun than our baby sister." Emira added.
But then Luz stepped forward poked Edric in the chest while glaring at him, saying "Because this is important to me. Any more stupid questions you want to ask." and this was enough to get the two to back away, with Edric saying "Okay! That's cool, that's cool. We'll just...get out of your hair." And when the two were far away enough, they started to run off screen. Amity smirked at the sight of watching them turn tail and run, but was also surprised to see that Luz was the one to do it.
"Your family's frightening reputation proceeds you." She said.
"I'm all up to date." Luz told her. "Eda told me that because her sister Lilith has now seen me, and I considered public enemy number 1. So, let's keep everything on the downlow."
"Agreed." Amity said as they carried on. But little did they know that though the Emperor's forces would not attack her head on, there were still the matter of...other enemies that Luz has had some experience with already. One of which was already making its way towards the library. Meanwhile, Luz and Amity were sitting at a table while looking at the books that Amity told her about. There were indeed aspects of her family's history, starting with Richter and the five years he went through as a puppet to the Dark Priest that was determined to resurrect the Prince of Darkness. It was that Luz remembered something from her dreams; Richter, having been ashamed of being manipulated by the Dark Forces, left the Heirloom Whip in the hands of another clan who he thought worthy...
"The Morris Clan." Luz said, leaving Amity confused.
"Who?" She asked.
Luz replied "They were another family and clan of monster hunters who temporarily wielded my family's whip. However, because they were not of my true bloodline...Well, let's just say they weren't much of a big family to begin with."
"I see..." Amity said simply. "But how do they fit into this?"
"I'm still trying to figure that out. It was almost an entire century to which my family just dropped off my map. But if THIS is here...then they must've gone to this dimension, haven't they?"
Amity then said "It's the only logical explanation. From what I know, there have been stories of human warriors who set foot on the Boiling Isles decades ago. Some say it was even before Emperor Belos' rule, but they caused quite a lot of trouble with all the...violence and chaos they brought forward."
"That does seem to follow us around." Luz said, remembering all the crazy things that happened to her back home.
Amity then said "Well this definitely would explain why the Emperor's Coven wishes to see you prosecuted. But it only fills in a few gaps."
"Let me see if I can find anything else." Luz said as she got up and started to look around the bookshelves. One book did stick out to her, but it was only because this book was another relic that her family often used as a weapon against the forces of darkness.
"Huh. How about that."
"What'd you find?" Amity said as she Luz shows her a book with golden outlines and a white cross at the front of it.
"A Bible." Luz said. "I didn't think this would exist here."
And it was that the two heard some commotion, such as the screams of a librarian. The quickly rush over to the balcony and are both shocked at the monster they're seeing. Though unrecognizable to the others in the Library, Luz saw it as another creature from her family's bestiary, with it's blackened skin, dark red eyes, the lowerhalf of a goat. All that was missing was wings, but it was clear that this monster was...
"A Lesser demon?" Luz said, getting Amity's attention. She quickly asked "You know what thing is?!"
"Are you really that surprised?" Luz asked back before they continued to look down at the monster down below, which was looking ready to kill the librarian in it's hands."
"AAAAGGHHH! HELP ME!"
Just as the Lesser Demon was about to tear the Librarian's head apart, a beam of Angelic Energy came and blasted the demon's head off. The Librarian fell to the ground and was shocked to see what had happened, so was Amity as she turned and looked to see Luz, holding an open bible in her hand and pointing to where the demon stood.
"Woah."
"Yeah..." Luz said. "But...if that thing managed to find it's way here. Then, chances are-"
And just then, the entire Library began to shake. Pretty soon, did the windows shadows as demonic fists and claws came through them. The wall was torn apart and a horde of demons started to come in. Those inside the library began to run for their lives as the demons began to terrorize the place. All the while, Luz pulled out her whip and rushed forward, beginning to fight back against the demons as they appeared. Amity stood by and watched this happen, but then Luz went and pulled her head down as another demon attacked from behind.
"Amity, get out of here!" Luz yelled before reengaging in battle. But Amity wasn't just gonna let this happen.
"I can fight! I can do this! Abominations, rise!"
Her purple creatures of murks slowly rose of spell circles and began to fight against the invading monsters, but they proved to be too much for her abominations to handle as they easily squished them down as if they were piles of mud...which in fact, they were. Amity didn't see much of a chance to help out here, but then remembered she could make a whip from the abomination goop and decided to go with that. But before she does, she felt Luz grab her around the waist. And that would've made her blush if it weren't for the next thing she knew, that they were jumping off the balcony as demons were beginning to close in on them. Luz broke their fall as she dragged Amity into hiding from the rest of the demons.
"I told you to get out of here!" She yells at the witch.
"I can take care of myself, Luz!" Amity yelled back. "You don't need to look out for me."
"This isn't your fight, Amity. These are things I know about and you don't."
Amity then asked "You don't think I researched these type of monsters your family faced? I know what to expect!"
"Amity, these are Lesser Demons. They're practically boss fights!" Luz said as said demon find out where they hid and attacked. They quickly ran as the demons continued to hunt them down. But then, Amity heard some familiar screams and it made her stop.
"Emira and Edric!"
"They sound like they're in trouble." Luz said.
"We need to go find them!" Amity said, but before she could run off, Luz grabbed her by the shoulder.
"If you're that intent of staying, then follow my lead!" She told her, to which Amity nodded as they rushed over to where the twins were screaming. As they ran, Luz looked up and saw who they had to target.
"You see that winged demon up there?!" She yelled to Amity, pointing to a lesser demon with wings, staring down at them. "That's their leader! Take him down, they'll scatter!"
"Let's do this!" Amity yelled out as she molded her right hand into the abomination whip. She and Luz fought through the many demons that came their way, defending themselves against their loathsome attacks. Eventually, they found Edric and Emira, about to be taken away by demons right before Luz turned them into ashes. Edric and Emira fell to the ground as Amity confronted them.
"What are you two still doing here?!"
"Well, the librarian was just about to kick us out when those things attacked!" Edric added.
"And then, they were all over us!" Emira added. "...I think one of them was a little handsy!"
"Get your siblings out of here, Amity!" Luz said while pulling the whip in her hand.
"I told you, I'm not leaving. I can-"
Luz interrupted, saying "You want to live to see another day?! GO!"
Amity knew it was not a good idea to piss off a Belmont as she and her siblings headed for the exit, leaving Luz to deal with half a dozen giant lesser demons surrounding her.
"Okay, you shadow worshipping sons of bitches..." Luz growled as she cracked her whip. "Let's see if you're all that I've hard about."
Meanwhile, Amity and her siblings were about to head towards the exit, when the head lesser demon blocked their path. Amity knew it was the leader because of the wings as she brought her abomination whip while she and her siblings backed up, and the lesser demon stomped forward.
"Amity..." Emira said nervously as she saw her little sister take a stance against the monster.
"About time you called me by my real name." Amity growled. "Now stand back. I can take him."
"Good, because it's not like either of us were going to." Edric spoke out, getting an elbow from his twin sister.
"Nice to know you two care so much." Amity said sarcastically as the Lesser Demon roars and charges at her. She continues to move back while her siblings get out of the way and watch as Amity puts up a lot of fight against the demon, striking her left from left to right. But it doesn't seem to be do much for her as she sees that demon regenerate and then, it suddenly grabs hold of her and throws her to the side, making her slam into a bookshelf which falls down on impact. She struggles to get up, seeing the Lesser Demon march towards her, having a lust for blood in it's eyes. But then, a sword came down from out of nowhere, landing in between the two and Amity only relied on instinct as she immediately grabbed the weapon and took a stance against the lesser demon.
It swung it's claws at her, but she quickly counterattacked and managed to do some real damage with her new weapon, ones that the lesser demon could barely heal from. It soon flapped its wings and had a magic aura surround itself as it then summoned skeleton men to fight back against the young witch. But Amity would not go down easy, slicing through the pile of bones while her siblings watched in awe. Before the lesser demon could get ready for another attack, Amity jumped up and swung her sword all the way, decapitating the demon completely. Sensing that their leader was now dead, the other demons were now retreating, much to Luz's surprise as she looked to see that it was Amity who managed to finished the job. She walked over to her in stared in wonder...
"...That was amazing." She told her.
"...Thanks." Amity replied. And then, her cowardly siblings had finally come out of fighting.
"Wow, that was...something." Edric said. "Who knew you had it in ya, Mittens?"
"I did." Luz answered. "I've experienced it first hand."
"That's right. We heard about your dual." Emira said. "But...where'd you get the sword?"
Amity replied while holding up the blade "I don't know. It just...came out of nowhere."
Luz took notice of the broadsword that Amity held in her hands, and recognized it as a signature blade belonging to a legendary Devilforgemaster. If that weapon was here than that would mean...
"You!" A angry voice cried out, making the pre-teens turn their attention to the head librarian, who looked pissed. "You did this! You brought them here! I should've recognized you, Belmont! The Emperor's Coven will hear about this!"
"I think it's time to go." Luz said as she ran off. "I'll catch up with you later, Amity!"
The Blight gave Luz a nod as she saw her run off. Then, her and her siblings started doing the same, exiting the now ruined library, where a sign was now put up, saying "Closed until further notice."
"Well, so much for Wailing Star Night." Edric said. "And there were so many books that could've been brought to life."
"Makes me wonder if there any books in particular you were willing to look at." Amity said almost angrily as she held up her newly achieved weapon. Both Edric and Emira laugh and smile nervously at their armed sister before backing away and then running while Amity chased after them.
Luz returned to the Owl House to see something she never thought she would see, Eda being motherly. She was nurturing all three baby bats in her arms. Wait...three?
"I thought there was only one child you were supposed to look after." She said quietly, trying not to disturb the children.
"Yeah...turns out the multiply." Eda said while continuing to rock the bats. "Just so you know, I am not enjoying this."
"So Luz, did you find what you needed at the library?" King asked.
"More or less." Luz said in a concerned. "It was going swell until me and Amity were attacked by lesser demons."
"Lesser demons?" Eda asked. "You mean...?"
"Yep. The Creatures of the Night are stepping up their game by the minute. But Amity still gave me somethings to work with out of my family's history, so that's a gain."
"What'd you find out?" King then asked.
"That apparently that one part of history where my family was absent had something to do with them showing up here." Luz answered.
Eda then said "I have heard about that. But that was before I was born, or even before Belos was in power."
"Exactly." Luz said. "I'm thinking another good place to get answers from is back home. So I'm planning to give my mother a visit later on."
"Whatever helps you, Luz. If there's anything else you need from me, you know where to find me."
Luz replied "Right...so anyway, can I join in all the babysitting fun?"
"Oh, please do. My arms are getting tired." Eda said, handing Luz the triplets. She cuddled them carefully, making sure they were all peaceful.
"I thought we were planning on making sure she didn't get a cut." King whispered.
"Shh, King. Shut up." Eda retorted.
