A/N: Another pre Twilight chapter. This is a wolf fic rather than a vampire fic, so I'm going into what happened before Bella arrived. I'm still following my own timeline, but trying to follow the sequence of events from 'The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide' relating to Sam and Emily. At this point in time Sam has been going to Neah Bay to see Emily and has spent some time with her. I know the guide says Sam accidentally phasing happened in Neah Bay, but that makes no sense if Sue Clearwater helps her - it is around 1 hour 25 minutes drive between La Push and Neah Bay according to Google Maps - so I moved that to La Push.

As usual, I don't own anything Twilight related, I'm just playing with the Twilight world.

January 7th, 2004

Today has dragged. The imprint bond has felt less painful since Paul and I had sex last night; it's more of a pull now than physical pain. Perhaps it's because we've fully accepted the imprint and Paul marked me. I think back to what happened and flush pink. I can honestly say forest sex is hot. Any sex with Paul is hot, to be honest. He is passionate and that always comes across, but last night was just so primal. So Paul.

I arrive home from school and find Dad in the living room watching a game on TV.

"Hey Dad."

"Hey Livvy."

"Listen, Paul's not being feeling too great. I'm going to head down to his house again, see if he needs anything." I say. Dad knows about Paul's history, he knew from Billy, so he knows he lives alone.

"Sure. I'll call for a pizza." He says.

"Are you sure? There's a lasagne in the freezer?" I say.

"I'm sure Livvy. I'm sure you want to check on that boy of yours." He replies.

"Thanks Dad." I say, heading out to my car and down to Paul's house.

I arrive and let myself in. I find Paul in the living room watching TV with both Sam and Jared.

"Hey." I say, going over to Paul and sitting in his lap. He wraps his arms around me and kisses me.

"Hey." He replies.

"Hey Liv." Sam and Jared say.

"Hey boys." I reply.

"Liv, I was wondering if I could bring Emily here for dinner tonight. I want her to meet the three of you." Sam asks.

"It's Paul's house, it's up to him." I reply with a shrug.

"But you're his imprint, so he's whipped." Jared jokes. Paul throws a cushion at him, which he catches.

"I'm not whipped! I told Sam to ask Liv as she'll be the one cooking. None of us three can cook beyond throwing something in the oven to reheat." Paul says.

"So what you're really asking is if I will cook for you all?" I say, chuckling lightly.

"Well, yeah." Sam says sheepishly. I laugh.

"Sure. I'll cook dinner. I'll even try and talk to Emily for you." I say. Sam gives me a grateful smile.

"Thanks Liv. I'll go call her." He says, heading out the door to the porch.

"He's whipped too, and she's still not accepted the imprint." Jared says, laughing.

"You might laugh, Jared Cameron, but you have Kim and I'm sure it won't take long for you to join them." I say.

"Probably not." He says with a sigh, causing me and Paul to both laugh.

Sam comes back in with a smile. "She's coming round at 7 for dinner." He tells us.

"That's great Sam." I tell him as he sits back down.

"So I stopped my Old Quil's and read through the scrolls again, about imprints and marking." Sam says.

"And what did you find out?" Paul asks.

"Everything I said yesterday was right. We bite to leave our mark on our imprint once they've accepted the imprint and we have a physical relationship. It doesn't usually happen the first time, but we all know Paul can be possessive."

I chuckle at that.

"Seriously, we have to share a mind with him when phased, you're all he thinks about." Jared says, making me blush a little. Paul throws a cushion at him, which he catches, again.

"The aging thing I remembered correctly, except you will age physically until you're around 25. As wolves we quickly change physically so we look around 25, then as long as we continue phasing we don't age any more. You will age until you catch up with us pysically, then as long as Paul continues to phase you will not age, like us."

"At least I won't be stuck looking 17 for the foreseeable future." I say. Sam nods.

"The fertility part, the bit I couldn't remember yesterday. Once marked, the imprint can only bear the children of her wolf. If for some reason down the line she rejected the imprint and found someone else, she would never be able to have children." Sam continues.

"I get that, actually. The whole reason behind the imprint is make a strong future generation of wolves, as well as providing the wolf with his other half." I say.

"You always just take all this in your stride." Paul says.

I shrug. "Why wouldn't I? It's part of who you are, your tribe. We chose each other before all of this, why wouldn't I accept everything that comes with that?"

"You really do amaze me." Paul replies, kissing me softly.

Sam clears his throat to get our attention back.

"The mark can be renewed anytime, so you may feel the need to do it again, especially if there is a threat." Sam continues. We all nod in understanding, even Jared is listening since he has Kim.

"The mark is extremely sensitive for the imprint. I'll let you work out what that means in private." He says, a little flustered. We all chuckles lightly at him, which earns us a glare.

"And finally, a marked imprint can be highly fertile, and our wolf will smell when she is, and want to mate with her."

"I can't believe I'm having this conversation with you three." I say, my skin reddened by what Sam has said.

Paul kisses my head and rubs circles on my back until the embarrassment fades.

"I'm assuming birth control still works?" Paul asks.

"Yeah, it does." Sam replies. We both breathe a sigh of relief.

"Good. I don't need to be a teen mom. I want to at least finish high school." I say, glancing up Paul. He nods in agreement.

"Definitely no kids before graduation." He says.

We chat a little while longer before I head to the kitchen to get dinner ready. It's nearly ready when there is a knock at the door. I hear Paul answer it, and head into the living room so Emily can be introduced to us all.

"Emily, this is Jared, Paul, and Paul's imprint Olivia." Sam says. We all say hi, and I head back to the kitchen with Paul following me. We finish up dinner and get everything to the table before calling Jared, Sam and Emily to join us.

Dinner passes quickly, with us all making small talk. Emily is nice, and I'm looking forward to getting to know her better. I can only guess at the pain Sam is in. Paul and I have felt some pain from being apart, but we haven't been far from each other really, and I accepted the imprint as soon as it happened.

After dinner is finished we clean up and then everyone heads home, with me promising Paul I will be back to see him tomorrow. Emily didn't really ask me any questions, but I made sure she knew that I would always be there for her if she needed anything.

January 8th, 2004

The following day after school I head down to Paul's house again. Dad is working late so I don't need to worry about making dinner for us.

I pull into Paul's drive and park my car by his truck before climbing out and heading into his house. I find him sitting at the table doing homework.

"Hey." I says as I walk towards the table.

"Hey you." He replies, pulling me to sit on his lap.

"What's with the school work?" I ask.

"Jared picked it up for me. Sam wants me to stay off for a few more days. Good thing about having no guardian is they take my word that I'm sick." He tells me.

"It's good you're staying on top of it." I say, kissing him softly.

I get out my homework and we both sit at the table working away. Once we're both finished we put our school books away and head to the kitchen.

"Will Sam and Jared be coming to dinner?" I ask.

"They should be. Jared is patrolling right now, not sure where Sam is, but they will turn up eventually." Paul tells me.

I start to marinate some chicken, and ask Paul to peel some potatoes whilst I do.

We carry on making dinner when there's a howl in the woods. Paul looks at me.

"That's Jared. I need to go phase and see what's going on." He tells me.

"Okay." I nod. I follow him out to the yard and watch as he pulls his shorts off before throwing them at me. I catch them and watch as he phases and heads into the woods. I start to head back into the house, but he reappears quickly.

"Liv! Shorts!" He shouts frantically. I throw his shorts to him.

"What's going on?" I ask as he pulls them on.

"Emily came down to the reservation. Her and Sam were arguing, and he lost control. He phased too close in anger and his claws have scratched her face and down her arm. Sam is frantic. Jared was already phased because of patrol, he's gone to calm Sam down. We need to get Sue and get her to Emily to help. It has to be Sue, she knows about the wolves and she's a nurse." He tells me quickly.

"Come on, I'll drive." I say, heading to my car. We jump in and head to the Clearwater house. I quickly explain to Sue what has happened and she climbs in the car with us. Paul directs us to the forest near the Uley house, where I quickly park and the three of us jump out of the car. We find Emily leaning up against a tree, a shirt held against her face, leaving her shivering in just her tank top.

Sue quickly administers what first aid she can.

"I need to get her to the clinic, she's going to need stitches." Sue tells us. I nod. Paul carries Emily to my car and I jump in the driver's seat.

"I'll take Sue and Emily to the clinic. You go and help Jared with Sam. He'll need both his brothers." I tell him.

"Okay." He replies, giving me a quick kiss before heading into the trees to phase.

I drive to the clinic quickly and take a seat in the waiting area whilst Sue takes Emily back to be seen to. It feels like hours, but is only around an hour, when a disheveled Paul appears and pulls me into his arms, burying his face in my neck and inhaling deeply.

"How is Sam?" I ask.

"Not good. He's really beating himself up over it. We got him to phase back and he's at my house with Jared. They were arguing because people have been talking about them spending time together, she came down here to ask him to keep his distance from her and go back to Leah. It made him angry that she was rejecting him again when they seemed to be getting somewhere, and because we're all so new he phased because of the anger. He was too close, and you know the rest." He tells me. I sigh and hold him tightly.

He pulls back and looks at me.

"Promise me, Liv, promise me if I get angry too close to you that you will get out of the way. I know you can usually calm me, but please promise me. I don't want to ever hurt you and go through what Sam is." He asks me, desperately.

I nod. "I promise Paul."

He buries his face into my neck again, taking a deep breath.

A little while later Sue comes out.

"How is she?" I ask.

"She'll be scarred, but she'll be fine. We're keeping her in overnight for observation." She tells us. I nod. "She's asking for you, Liv."

"Me?" I ask. Sue nods. I look at Paul who shrugs. "Okay, show me the way."

We leave Paul in the waiting area and Sue leads to the room Emily is in.

"Emily?" I say as I enter the room.

"Olivia." She says, giving me a small smile.

"How are you feeling?" I ask, taking the seat next to her bed.

"I've been better." She replies. "I wanted to ask you about imprinting."

"Sure, whatever you need." I reply.

"Does me rejecting Sam hurt him?" She asks.

"Yes, from what I know. Paul only imprinted on me a few days ago, and we were together already so I accepted it immediately. I know being apart causes physical pain, I've experienced that, as has Paul." I say.

"I have too. I've felt the pain when he's here and I'm at home. It hurts. And I do like him. I really do. It's just he was Leah's fiancé, and she's my cousin. How can I do that to her?" She asks.

"Sometimes you have to do what is best for you. Sam won't go back to Leah, no matter what you do. Even if he did, he would be living a lie and that would hurt Leah more. He will never look at another woman again, whether you accept the imprint or not." I reply.

Emily sighs. "You're right. Perhaps I should be selfish and do what I want. No doubt Sam is in a bad way because of the accident?"

"So Paul says. He blames himself completely." I say.

"He shouldn't. I made him angry by calling him a liar when he said he couldn't go back to Leah, and telling him he is just like his father for not facing up to his responsibilities. What I said made him so angry he phased on the spot. He tried to warn me by stepping back and holding a hand up, but I didn't understand what he was trying to do and stepped forward towards him. When he phased the hand he had up turned into a paw and caught my face and arm." She explains.

"Oh Emily, don't blame yourself. You didn't know he was about to phase. Just be wary in the future - they do get angry quickly which causes them to phase. Paul is the king of phasing in anger. I'm sure he only needs to hear the word Cullen and he's a giant furball. I think we all need to remember that this is still very new for them all, Sam included. He may have been first, but that was still only around 5 or 6 weeks ago. Jared was only a couple weeks ago and Paul was days ago. They're all going to have to work on their control and we're going to have to support them." I tell her.

"You're right Olivia. I think I need to see Sam. Please can you or one of the boys get him to come see me?"

"Of course." I tell her. "I'll see you soon."

"Thanks Olivia, see you soon."

I head out to the waiting area and Paul comes straight over as soon as he sees me. He wraps me in his arms and buries his face in my hair.

"I need to get home, Dad will be wondering where I am." I say as we leave the clinic.

Paul groans. "I don't want you to go home."

"I don't really want to go home." I say. "Reckon you can sneak in my window?"

"I could do that." He says. "Anything to be with you tonight."

"Come on then, you can jump out of the car near the house and sneak in once I'm in my room for the night." I say, leading Paul out to my car.

We drive back to Forks and I pull over just before we reach the house so Paul can jump out and head into the woods. When I reach the house I say goodnight to Dad and head to my room. I lock my door and open the window, and a few moments later Paul comes through the window with a soft thud.

I get changed and we climb into bed, with Paul holding me tightly. We both have the best night's sleep since he imprinted.
