Shadow and Bone x oc very loosely based on Guan Xing from dynasty warriors.
Pairing: Alina x Guan Xing or Inej x Guan Xing
A black carriage rides through the camp just in front of the fold, getting most men's and women's attention.
The soldier's leader tells his sergeant assigned to the skiff to ready his men and Mal leaves Alina's side to get prepared for the ride through the fold.
Alina is filled with panic and worry and sneaks into the command tents and starts looking through the maps in the tent when footsteps behind her catch her by surprise.
"Sorry, I know I'm not supposed to be in here. I just..." Alina says fearfully while turning around, seeing an asian looking man, only slightly older than her from the looks of it with brown short hair, a black headband, a green sleeveless coat over black Grisha clothes and two sizeable leather pouches crossed behind his back at waist height.
"I'm probably not welcome either." He says unfazed.
"Do you happen to know where a map of the fold is?" He asks.
"Everything on the fold is in there." She says, pointing at the first drawer of the map storage.
"Thanks." He says, spotting at a rolled up map in a trash bin next to her and her gripping another one tightly eyeing a candle in the room intensely.
"You seem troubled, why don't you step outside for a bit?" Xing asks, holding out his hand for the map.
Alina sighs and surrenders the map before leaving upset but is surprised to then see him actually burn the map and the one in the trash bin.
Alina then waits outside the tent for her chance to offer her services and not much later the soldier's leader and the lead cartographer enter the tent with her reporting what maps are damaged by the flames.
"I'm sorry. I tried to put out the flames as quickly as possible." Xing apologizes politely to the angry old soldier.
"Fuck you. Now we have to send cartographers through the fold just because you Grisha's can't keep your hands to yourself." The man growls.
"I'll do it. I'll go." Alina offers, stepping into the tent's entrance.
"Yes you will. Your whole unit will." The man says angrily, stomping out of the tent.
15 minutes later Alina and her unit of three other cartographers hurry to the skiff, making it on board just before it takes off. She briefly talks to Mal, her childhood friend before an inferni gets everyone's attention.
"Listen up. Here's how it goes. We go into the fold. It gets dark but we like it like that, that way we draw no attention. We only use the blue light at the mast. It's weak but safe." The woman says.
"Where is your general? Kirigan? We saw his coach arrive." Mal asks the woman.
"He's still a couple hours out. That coach was mine." Guan Xing says, leaning against the left railing of the skiff, looking at Alina curiously.
"And you are?" Mal asks, but before Xing answers the skiff takes off, a wind Grisha using her powers to blow wind into the sail.
"Alright listen here cartographers. Until we arrive at the western station, do not leave your post. And do not get off the skiff under any circumstances. " the lieutenant orders.
Everyone but Xing then faces the black mass in front of them.
The next two minutes are filled with an uneasy silence and the creaking off the skiff. A flying creature then passes right by their sail with a screech, the shadow striking fear into the hearts of the crew and Alina cowers against the railing, looking into the air frightened until she sees the man she met earlier come over relaxed.
"Calm down. They are harmless unless they get attracted to this skiff somehow." He says leaning against the railing right next to her.
"I'm sorry, who are you?" She asks confused as to why he's there.
"Guan Xing I'm..." he says, when the blue light suddenly goes out and a naive soldier lights a normal lantern.
"Stay down and keep quiet." Xing tells her, his two leather covers dropping at her knees with him now wielding two one handed swords of large size with the blade even going over its handle. (dynasty warriors wingblade)
"Blow it out. what are you doing?" The inferni leading the group tells him fearfully, but one of the flying monsters terrorizing the fold is already towering behind the man and snatches him up with its talons and carries him away, the lantern dropping onto the ship and lighting the middle of the deck on fire.
"Ahh!" They then hear two female screams almost simultaneously, one coming from the girl blowing wind into their sail and the other from one of Alina's squad members getting dragged away, crashing right through the railing where Xing previously stood, now having moved to the middle of the skiff to try and extinguish the fire before it spreads too far.
"Ah screw it." He groans and slices off a large portion of the middle of the deck and it lifts up flying away from the ship but it's already too late. The crew starts fighting the creatures attacking them and the noise calls for even more flying monsters.
Alexi, one of Alina's squad members jumps off the ship in a panic and starts to blindly run away.
Xing sees a creature approach the only remaining wind Grisha and he sails through the air, slicing off its head before it can take the young girl.
"Come with me." He says, grabbing her hand and flies them to the upper level, creating a hole kn the floor for her so only her hands and part of her head stick out.
"Give wind to the sail, you should be safe like this." He instructs before jumping over the railing and sees a creature lift Alina's friend up by his chest and the girl with a bout of bravery grabs a discarded gun, firing it right at it and making it release her friend before flying away.
Alina rushes to Mal's side but gets taken hold of by another creature from behind and it flies into the air with her.
Xing flies up to her and grabs her hand before she suddenly lights up and a blast of light escapes her, literally erasing the creatures attacking the ship in a 40 meter radius. Wei holds the now unconscious girl in his arms and flies down to the ship, setting her down next to her friend.
"Alright. I'm taking lead now! I need a medic stabilizing these two now, everyone else get under deck and you keep blowing wind. I'll do the rest." Xing says with everyone following his orders and rushing under deck except for one woman who works on stabilizing Mal and Alina's injuries.
Xing then levitates in the middle of the ship and it turns around, no longer touching the ground and flying back where they came from with more speed than they entered with.
When they are only 20 meters away from the exit of the fold another five creatures attack from all sides and Xing drops the ship, holding out his hands at his sides before making a smashing motion, a deep crater appearing around the ship.
Only a minute later they reemerge from the fold.
"What's going on? What happened?" The general of the soldiers asks.
"A dumbass lit the ship on fire and almost killed everyone." Guan Xing says, landing in front of him with the wind Grisha, setting her down carefully.
"We have at least two injured on deck and possibly others below deck." He reports.
"Alright. Bring everyone in need of medical attention to the medical stations." The general says.
10 minutes later General Kirigan arrives at the medical stations.
"I heard something magical happened Xing. There is a sun summoner?" The black general asks, coming over with a Grisha from the skiff.
"Could've been a fluke. She's a cartographer." Xing says.
"You bring me the girl after you patched her up." General Kirigan orders a medic and retreats to the Grisha's main tent.
Guan Xing in the meantime waits for the girl to wake up in person.
"Mal!" She shouts shooting up with the medic treating her holding her down, so she doesn't hurt herself.
"He's fine." Xing says.
"What happened?" Alina asks.
"You are a light summoner." He says.
"I'm not a Grisha." She protests.
"Sorry, but you are. I knew from when we first met." He says.
"What are you saying?" She asks distraught.
"That your life will drastically change now. Is she good to go?" Xing replies.
"Yeah. Her collarbone is fixed." The medic Grisha says.
"Alright. Come with me." He says, holding out his hand.
"Who are you?" She asks uneasily, accepting the offered hand and follows him through the camp.
"Guan Xing. Green general of the Grisha." He introduces himself again.
"What's your name?" He asks the shocked girl.
"Alina Starkov." She replies.
"Nice to meet you. Now, I have one advise for you before we enter. Don't trust Kirigan. He's not a good guy." Xing says.
The two then enter the Grisha tent where many Grisha are gathered with the black general having command and everyone's attention.
"Bring her closer." Kirigan says not turning around.
"You can walk just fine last I saw." Xing tells the man with a scoff, standing at Alina's side protectively.
"Rude as always. No wonder I was voted leader over you." Kirigan says, turning around.
"What are you?" He asks, looking at Alina.
"Alina Starkov. A map maker sir." She replies, making everyone but the generals chuckle.
"I'm asking what you are." He Kirigan says.
"I don't understand sir." Alina replies.
"Quit your games aleady." Xing tells Kirigan and levitates a small dagger over to him from the desk in the tent.
"Don't worry. It won't really hurt." Xing tells Alina, holding the knife while rolling up her sleeve gently.
"What are you doing?" She asks frightened.
"Testing you." He replies softly and pricks her biceps with the tip of the blade, a beam of light shining through the wound and ripping right through the tent's roof.
"Amazing. It's real. Bring her to little palace." Kirigan orders.
"There is no reason to rush." Xing disagrees.
"There is. Everyday here is another day she isn't safe." Kirigan says and nods at two of the men in the tent who take hold of Alina and bring her outside.
"You're wrong Kirigan. We need her to help us not serve us." Xing berates the general and leaves the tent as well.
Once outside he sees Alina arguing with the two red cloaked Grisha who give her a red caftan as well.
"Give me a moment with her." Xing says.
"We can't. Orders are orders." Kirigan's righthand man says.
"Well I am ordering you to step aside." Xing presses annoyed.
"You hold no power. They call you general out of curtesy. No Grisha will ever trust you. Your father was the enemy afterall." The Grisha says.
"Fuck off." Xing scoffs and waves two fingers at the man who gets blown half across the camp.
"You want to challenge me too?" Xing asks the other one.
"Hah, fine but only a few minutes. She isn't safe here." The man says.
"I need to see Mal." The girl begs Xing.
"Follow me." He says and leads her to the medic tent where Mal is getting treated on his leg.
"Mal!" She says happily and hugs the taller man.
"You're alright." He says relieved before falling into silence.
"You knew didn't you. You always knew you were Grisha." He says accusingly.
"No. I never..." she says.
"Get out of here Grisha scum. This is the soldier's tent. We don't need you here." An older man tells her, tossing a small rock at her and Xing, the rock levitating in the air with Xing only glancing at it.
"You don't huh? You do realize that it's our people healing you right?" Xing says.
"So? Every bitch has their use." the man says and is about to hit a nurse's ass when he suddenly can't move anymore and levitates out of the tent, Xing looking angrily at the man. Once out of the tent he lets off one more curse before sailing through the air right into the middle of the fold.
"It's time to go." Xing says, taking Alina's hand.
"I didn't know Mal. You have to believe me." She says saddened, Mal not even looking at her anymore.
Xing brings her back to the coach where the now again two men take her with them and take off to the little castle.
